Abstract:
In the process of subtropical forest succession, it has long been recognized that population decline of Masson pines in coniferous-broadleaf mixed forest is caused by shading from broadleaf trees. However, little is known about the mechanism underlying the interaction between them. Here, we first chose two sets of Masson pine plots approximately aged 60 years in subtropical mountainous areas in eastern China (i.e., pure coniferous forest vs. coniferous-broadleaf mixed forest). Then, we measured and compared tree height, diameter at breast height, first branch height (FBH), live crown ratio (LCR) of Masson pines between the two sets of plots, and also determined the difference in growth performance of Masson pines relative to their neighboring broadleaf trees in the mixed forest stand. Compared with plots in pine forests, Masson pines in mixed plots had lower tree height and crown breadth, higher FBH, lower LCR, and leaf area. Furthermore, the difference of mean FBH between reference trees (Masson pines) and their neighboring trees (i.e., broadleaf trees) in mixed forest plots was greater than that in pine forest plots, and the ratio of LCR between Masson pines and their neighbors (0.46) in mixed forest was significantly smaller than in pine forest (1.05), indicating that those broadleaf trees around Masson pines probably affected their growth. The mean distance between Masson pines and neighboring trees (1.59 m) in mixed forest plots was significantly shorter than in pine forest plots (2.77 m) (p < 0.01), suggesting that strong competition may occur between reference trees and their neighbors. There was a significant difference in the ratio of crown volume between reference tree Masson pine and its neighboring trees in mixed forests (p < 0.01), indicating that the ratio of biomass synthesis to consumption of pines was much lower than their nearby broadleaf trees in mixed forest. Our results have demonstrated for the first time that Masson pines’ population decline is affected by shade-tolerant broadleaf late-successional species, which can be primarily attributed to the distinctive light transmittance of dominant species nearby (pure pine vs. mixed forest). This study provides a new perspective for future studies on the mechanism of forest succession.

Abstract:
Summary: The Masson tumor is a benign vascular tumor named after Pierre Masson, the French pathologist who originally described it in 1923, terming it “hémangio-endothéliome végétant intravasculaire.” It is a rare tumor that can arise in any area throughout the body. However, the exact cause of Masson tumor remains poorly understood, and its diagnosis is challenging and difficult to distinguish from several other soft-tissue tumors. In this report, we report a case of Masson tumor arising in the right thumb that is only the second reported case in the hand in Saudi Arabia.

Abstract:
N6-methyladenosine (m6A) RNA modification is the most prevalent form of RNA methylation and plays a crucial role in plant development. However, our understanding of m6A modification in Masson pine (Pinus massoniana Lamb.) remains limited. In this study, a complete analysis of m6A writers, erasers, and readers in Masson pine was performed, and 22 m6A regulatory genes were identified in total, including 7 m6A writers, 7 m6A erases, and 8 readers. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that all m6A regulators involved in Masson pine could be classified into three distinct groups based on their domains and motifs. The tissue expression analysis revealed that the m6A regulatory gene may exert a significant influence on the development of reproductive organs and leaves in Masson pine. Moreover, the results from stress and hormone expression analysis indicated that the m6A regulatory gene in Masson pine might be involved in drought stress response, ABA-signaling-pathway activation, as well as resistance to Monochamus alternatus. This study provided valuable and anticipated insights into the regulatory genes of m6A modification and their potential epigenetic regulatory mechanisms in Masson pine.

Abstract:
Masson pine (Pinus massoniana) is a core industrial tree species that is used for afforestation in southern China. Previous studies have shown that Auxin Response Factors (ARFs) are involved in the growth and development of various species, but the function of ARFs in Masson pine is unclear. In this research, we cloned and identified Masson pine ARF6 cDNA (PmARF6). The results showed that PmARF6 encodes a protein of 681 amino acids that is highly expressed in female flowers. Subcellular analysis showed that the PmARF6 protein occurred predominantly in the nucleus and cytomembrane of Masson pine cells. Compared with wild-type (WT) Arabidopsis, transgenic Arabidopsis plants overexpressing PmARF6 had fewer rosette leaves, and their flower development was slower. These results suggest that overexpression of PmARF6 may inhibit the flower and leaf development of Masson pine and provide new insights into the underlying developmental mechanism.

Andre masson is one of the most outstanding authors of mauritian literature. He has marked the mauritian society and literary field by the different works he has left behind. Our study aims at giving to masson the place he deserves in mauritian literature as well as in french foreign literature. The first part of our thesis shows the life of masson, his political views and his great love for the island of mauritius. Thess items are useful in a correct understanding of his works. In the second part we try to grasp the whole of his works throughout the different writings. That is why we have thought necessary to speak of his keenness for writing before going through the different genres in which he tried his pen : theatre, poetry, novels and journalism -- the latter was his main occupation. We conclude our study with a brief analysis of masson's search for writing which goes from art to theology of history

Ryu, Soonok.

Full text
Abstract:
Charles Masson (1894-1971) was one of the leading architects of the interwar period in Nancy. People are still studying the effects of this historical and architectural period in Nancy and Lorraine. Adopting the classic form of an architectural monograph, this thesis both contributes to these studies and tries to broaden the study by mentioning the patrons. First of all, it focuses on the life of this architect, born in Moselle when Moselle was a part of Germany and whose German upbringing gives his work a unique character. Masson's oeuvre consists of 57 buildings, which have all been defined, studied, and collected together in a catalog, which constitutes the third volume of this thesis. Geographically, they are primarily located in Nancy and almost half of them are located in the famous Parc de Saurupt, the Mecca of Art Nouveau architecture and where Masson invested a lot of his time and effort, but when it comes to the types of buildings, he only designed villas, houses, and apartments. There are no public buildings in his work. Masson is unique in having only worked on residential architecture in Nancy. The 41 identified patrons are therefore all individuals, who all come from a variety of backgrounds and social classes, generally belonging to the wealthy bourgeoisie. This thesis not only looks at the life and work of Masson, but also attempts to understand the relationship between the architect and his clients, an issue which up to now, as far as the architecture of the interwar period is concerned, has not been treated seriously or systematically. It is one of the primary goals of this thesis to try to address the nature of Masson's clientele head-on. For this, the archives have proven essential, but no correspondence has yet been found despite the vast majority of the plans drawn up by Masson having been preserved. We supplemented this by carefully studying the social profile of each patron and by examining the plans and architecture of each building. We were able to identify their biases and estimate the client’s wishes, whether they dreamed of owning a luxury villa or were looking for a bargain property. This study has revealed an unknown architect from Nancy, who despite the importance of his work, has helped contribute to the knowledge of the domestic architecture and the clientele of the architects of the interwar period

Abstract:
Loys Masson, born in 1915, in Mauritius, died in 1969, in Paris. He is well-known as executive secretary of the Comité national des écrivains (1944) and editor of Les Lettres françaises (1947). He is also known as an outstanding poet of the resistance movement, in France. Lyric and dramatic writer, his poems, novels and dramatic works raise many questions about human nature. His best pages are like bits from letters or from a diary and tell much about how he feels. The literary works of Loys Masson have never been adequately explored or explained. We propose a careful search into the life of L. Masson, into the profound pain of his dreams, reflected in his delicate books. His main themes are, rebellion, childhood, and the neurosis of a lost paradise. Letters, unpublished works, statements, editorials in Les Lettres françaises, also form part of our research works. Abstract:
This dissertation and accompanying lecture recital explores the musical elements present in Áskell Másson’s three solos for snare drum, PRÍM (1984), KÍM (2001) and B2B: Back to Basics (2010). Two of the primary challenges for the performer when playing solo literature on a non-pitch oriented instrument are identifying thematic structures and understanding how to interpret all innovative sound production techniques employed within the music. A thematic and compositional analysis, as well as an investigation into the experimentation of timbre found in Másson’s three pieces for solo snare drum will help to clarify the musical complexities that are present throughout.

Abstract:
Our publications and unpublished essays on the life and work of the painter andre masson (born balagny, oise, 1896) gathered up to 1986 represent the essential of our researches and interpretations from 1972 on. The corpus published, with critical notes and historical presentation, are 1 the anthology of the painter's writings and the almost complete catalogue of his illustrated books. His correspondence is to be published too. The catalogue raisonne of the paintings and drawings is still in preparation, being computerized. The interpretation and change of appreciation which we suggest deal with 1 the biographical data 2 the notion of "automatism" 3 the idea of "myth" 4 the links with surrealism and more generally with writers and literature. Our sources are mostly new and unpublished. 1 studying the origins of masson's family and his formative years, we try to figure the cultural trends and essential "breaks" which appear to have determined, before the first world war, his new choices in his artistic and social activities. 2 studying "automatism", we replace the term in his historical context, mainly psychopathology and spiritism vs psychoanalysis ; his use by the surrealists reveals a very ambiguous attitude toward the unconscious. In the case of masson's "automatic drawings", we recognize the paradoxal presence of construction and stylistic series. Different kinds of knowledge are linked without any frontier between the various patterns of references. 3 myth

Abstract:
Introduction: Ovarian masses present with very vague symptoms and thus it is imperative to establish a quick diagnosis at the rst point of contact. Pre-operative diagnosis of an ovarian mass and its classication as benign or malignant helps in timely referral to specialized gynecologist/oncologist and proper surgical/medical management. IOTA simple Rules provides one such criteria for pre-operative classication of ovarian mass and has proved to be reliable, accurate and highly reproducible in all settings. a hospital Methods: based prospective study was done on 100 patients. Initial pre-operative classication was done using IOTA Simple Rules and the ndings were compared to histo-pathological ndings after surgery which were considered gold standard. Out of the 100 masses under study, 86% Results: could be classied according to IOTA Simple Rules with a sensitivity of 96.36% and specicity of 91.4%. The positive predictive value was 80.3% and the negative predictive value was 94.1%. The accuracy was 85%. Thus, IOTA S Conclusion: imple Rules is a cost-effective, simple, reliable, accurate scoring system with excellent sensitivity and specicity that is easily applicable in primary evaluation of patients with ovarian masses in clinical practice. Only unclassied masses on IOTA Simple Rules need further evaluation. Use of these rules in discriminating the masses will help in timely referral of the patient to specialized gynecologist /oncologist to receive optimal management.

Vladymyrov, Volodymyr. THE PROBABLE PLACE FOR BEING CREATED MASS INFORMATION THEORY BETWEEN OTHER FUNDAMENTAL THEORIES ABOUT IMPACT ON MASS AUDIENCE. Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.30970/vjo.2021.49.11059.

Abstract:
The article continues, for the first time in English in domestic science, to study the question of the need to create a new scientific theory – the theory of mass information. For the first time too raises the question of creating, in a place of the current theory of mass communication, a system of sciences including: a) mass information (shpuld be created now in rpoh of mass information), b) the theory of mass understanding (has created as a hermeneutics of the masses), c) the theory of mass communication (has created as a theory of the transfer of content) and the theory of mass emotions (started to create in 2017). This is a paradoxical situation – the absence of fundamental theory of mass information in the epoch of mass information. Researches in the scientific works of foreign mass communication also showed the absence of a holistic theory, as well as attempts to create it, even the lack of decisions on the need to create it as a new scientific field.

Laber, Charles, Guilherme Lotufo, Austin Scircle, Jenifer Netchaev, and Anthony Bednar. Overview of microscale analytical methods for the quantitative detection of bioaccumulative contaminants in small tissue masses. Engineer Research and Development Center (U.S.), 2024. http://dx.doi.org/10.21079/11681/48190.

Full text
Abstract:
For many bioaccumulation studies, generation of large sample masses of exposed organisms is challenging or even prohibitive. Therefore, the use of smaller sample masses for analysis without compromising data quality or quantitative level achieved is desirable. To this end, a variety of microanalytical procedures have been developed that used 1 g or less of tissue to address specific experimental challenges. However, these methods have not been systematically evaluated or published. The present work evaluates the current state of the microanalytical methods reported and identifies additional needs that would benefit US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) research and navigation dredging programs. Discussions with commercial laboratories revealed that they typically do not accept small sample masses and require individual sample masses ranging from 10 to 20 g wet weight of tissue per analysis. If they do analyze a small mass sample, they routinely do not modify their standard process, resulting in detection and reporting limits orders of magnitude higher; therefore, essentially useless nondetect data are generated for regulatory decisions. To address the lack of commercial availability of microanalytical methods, we recommend pursuing method development and subsequent validation of microscale extraction and analysis of a variety of common contaminant compounds in tissue matrices.

Demchenko, Dmytro. DEMASSIFICATION OF SOCIAL PROCESSES IN THE CONTEXT OF DIGITAL COMMUNICATION (TO THE PROBLEM OF THE DICHOTOMY OF “ELITE-MASS” AS A POLITICAL COMMUNICATION PARADOX). Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, 2024. http://dx.doi.org/10.30970/vjo.2024.54-55.12171.

Full text
Abstract:
The article aims to analyze a complicated process of the society’s main components – elite, mass communication, and masses – in their interaction and interdependence from the historical perspective. Due to industrialization and modernization of the life quality, the social life changes radically, and the essence of every component of the society changes as well. The elite loses its dynastic character. The media stop to play the role of a mediator taking on the obligations of a collective agitator and propagandist, and the mass stops to be cloth for wiping shoes. It starts to form a mass audience and, by that, obtains new forms that must be taken into account by social institutions. Together with that the collective views are substituted by the views which are stronger than the ones of a separate individual. One of the main conclusions of the investigation is as follows. The formation of the “consumer society” and the strengthening of the mass communication role resulted in the appearance of “mediocracy” which factually introduced an absolute elite dependence on it and conferred the right of media to set the social agenda. The mass turned out to be a silent majority, a unity of conformity-oriented people. These people become simultaneously a product of mass communication impact because they dictate what one must read, listen to, and watch from the media menu. They force MMC to satisfy their unassuming needs making the content trivial and commodificated. In other words, the mutual process of the interaction of the media, “impossible independence” and the conscious “communicative consensus” of individuals who are willingly united with the mass audience takes place. The creation of the internet due to “digital anonymity” and the autonomy of the consumer formed the conditions for the self-determined citizens and gave the elite a modest place in the “cyber democracy”. However, the increase in individual self-isolation leads to his gradual loss of “social capital,” and that threatens to replace the direct experience with a virtual environment that will make it very difficult to differentiate reality from fiction. Keywords: elite, mass, media, mass communication, information space, globalization.
