Abstract:
Andre masson a marque la societe mauricienne par son ecriture et par les differents messages qu'il lui a laisses. Notre etude a pour objectif de donner a masson la place qui lui revient tant dans la litterature mauricienne que dans une litterature etrangere d'expression francaise. La premiere partie de notre these evoque la vie de masson, son souci politique ainsi que le fort attachement qu'il eprouva pour l'ile maurice. Nous avons etudie ces elements parce qu'ils sont necessaires a la comprehension de l'oeuvre. Cette etude occupe les trois chapitres de la partie qui nous permet de decouvrir l'homme que fut masson. Nous signalons en meme temps ses relations sociales et affectives dans une ile pluri-culturelle. Dans la deuxieme partie nous essayons de cerner l'ensemble de son oeuvre et de tous les ecrits qu'il a laisses. Aussi nous avons juge bon d'etudier sa recherche d'ecriture avant de voir les differents genres auxquels il s'est exerce : theatre, poesie, roman et ecrits journalistiques -- ces derniers nous permettant de le suivre dans son metier. Nous concluons notre etude par une breve analyse de l'ecriture massonienne qui va de l'art a la theologie de l'histoire<br>Andre masson is one of the most outstanding authors of mauritian literature. He has marked the mauritian society and literary field by the different works he has left behind. Our study aims at giving to masson the place he deserves in mauritian literature as well as in french foreign literature. The first part of our thesis shows the life of masson, his political views and his great love for the island of mauritius. Thess items are useful in a correct understanding of his works. In the second part we try to grasp the whole of his works throughout the different writings. That is why we have thought necessary to speak of his keenness for writing before going through the different genres in which he tried his pen : theatre, poetry, novels and journalism -- the latter was his main occupation. We conclude our study with a brief analysis of masson's search for writing which goes from art to theology of history

Abstract:
Charles Masson (1894-1971) est un des principaux architectes de l’entre-deux-guerres à Nancy. Cette période de l’histoire de l’architecture à Nancy et en Lorraine est encore en cours d’étude. Adoptant la forme classique d’une monographie d’architecte, cette thèse y apporte sa contribution mais en tentant d’élargir l’étude par la connaissance des commanditaires. Elle s’attache d’abord à établir la biographie de cet architecte né en Moselle annexée et dont la formation en Allemagne lui donne un profil singulier. Le corpus des édifices bâtis par Masson au nombre de 57 a été défini, étudié et réuni dans un catalogue qui constitue le troisième volume de la thèse. Géographiquement, ils se trouvent principalement à Nancy et, pour presque la moitié d’entre eux, dans le fameux Parc de Saurupt, haut lieu de l’architecture Art nouveau et où Masson s’est fortement investi, mais du point de vue de leur statut, ils ne comptent que des villas ou des maisons et des immeubles, mais aucun bâtiment public. Masson présente la particularité rare de n’avoir travaillé à Nancy que pour l’architecture domestique. Les 41 commanditaires identifiés sont donc tous des particuliers, à l’origine et au profil social variés, appartenant généralement à la bourgeoisie fortunée. La synthèse se penche non seulement sur la vie et les constructions de Masson, mais tente aussi de saisir les relations entre l’architecte et ses clients, question qui jusqu’ici, pour ce qui concerne l’architecture de l’entre-deux-guerres, n’a pas été traitée sérieusement ni systématiquement. C’est un des intérêts de cette thèse de tenter d’aborder de front la question de la clientèle de l’architecte Masson. Pour cela, l’apport des archives s’avère essentiel mais, si la très grande majorité des plans dressés par Masson a été conservée, aucune correspondance n’a été retrouvée. On y a suppléé en étudiant finement le profil social de chaque commanditaire et en examinant les plans et l’architecture de chaque édifice pour en identifier les partis pris et deviner les souhaits des clients : leur rêve de villa ou leur désir de profiter des bonnes affaires dans l’immobilier. Cette étude révèle donc un architecte nancéien méconnu malgré l’importance de son œuvre et se veut une contribution à la connaissance de l’architecture domestique et de la clientèle des architectes de l’entre-deux-guerres<br>Charles Masson (1894-1971) was one of the leading architects of the interwar period in Nancy. People are still studying the effects of this historical and architectural period in Nancy and Lorraine. Adopting the classic form of an architectural monograph, this thesis both contributes to these studies and tries to broaden the study by mentioning the patrons. First of all, it focuses on the life of this architect, born in Moselle when Moselle was a part of Germany and whose German upbringing gives his work a unique character. Masson's oeuvre consists of 57 buildings, which have all been defined, studied, and collected together in a catalog, which constitutes the third volume of this thesis. Geographically, they are primarily located in Nancy and almost half of them are located in the famous Parc de Saurupt, the Mecca of Art Nouveau architecture and where Masson invested a lot of his time and effort, but when it comes to the types of buildings, he only designed villas, houses, and apartments. There are no public buildings in his work. Masson is unique in having only worked on residential architecture in Nancy. The 41 identified patrons are therefore all individuals, who all come from a variety of backgrounds and social classes, generally belonging to the wealthy bourgeoisie. This thesis not only looks at the life and work of Masson, but also attempts to understand the relationship between the architect and his clients, an issue which up to now, as far as the architecture of the interwar period is concerned, has not been treated seriously or systematically. It is one of the primary goals of this thesis to try to address the nature of Masson's clientele head-on. For this, the archives have proven essential, but no correspondence has yet been found despite the vast majority of the plans drawn up by Masson having been preserved. We supplemented this by carefully studying the social profile of each patron and by examining the plans and architecture of each building. We were able to identify their biases and estimate the client’s wishes, whether they dreamed of owning a luxury villa or were looking for a bargain property. This study has revealed an unknown architect from Nancy, who despite the importance of his work, has helped contribute to the knowledge of the domestic architecture and the clientele of the architects of the interwar period

L'exil, la clandestinité, puis l'oubli, telle semble avoir été le parcours de Loys Masson, écrivain partagé entre la France et l'île Maurice. En France, il fut poète de la résistance, secrétaire du comité national des écrivains (1944), rédacteur en chef des Lettres françaises (1947). Loys Masson né le 31 décembre 1915, à Maurice, mort en 1969, à Paris, est l'auteur des poèmes bouleversants de "Délivrez-nous du mal", un des plus beaux recueils de poèmes de la résistance, d'un vaste cycle de romans insulaires tels "L'Etoile" et "La Clef", "Le Notaire des noirs", "Les Noces de la vanille". Son théâtre et un essai "Pour une église", manifestent cette quête spirituelle inlassablement poursuivie par Loys Masson. Notre travail propose une mise au point biobibliographique et une mise en perspective de l'élaboration de l'œuvre massonienne, en exil. Une œuvre qui présente un certain nombre de constantes : l'esprit de rébellion, l'appel de la mer, l'obsession de la croix, le désir de retour aux origines. Ce travail s'appuie tantôt sur les témoignages de ceux qui ont approché L. Masson, tantôt sur une œuvre qui s'étale sur plus de vingt-cinq ans. He is well-known as executive secretary of the Comité national des écrivains (1944) and editor of Les Lettres françaises (1947). He is also known as an outstanding poet of the resistance movement, in France. Lyric and dramatic writer, his poems, novels and dramatic works raise many questions about human nature. His best pages are like bits from letters or from a diary and tell much about how he feels. The literary works of Loys Masson have never been adequately explored or explained. We propose a careful search into the life of L. Masson, into the profound pain of his dreams, reflected in his delicate books. His main themes are, rebellion, childhood, and the neurosis of a lost paradise. Letters, unpublished works, statements, editorials in Les Lettres françaises, also form part of our research works. Abstract:
This dissertation and accompanying lecture recital explores the musical elements present in Áskell Másson’s three solos for snare drum, PRÍM (1984), KÍM (2001) and B2B: Back to Basics (2010). Two of the primary challenges for the performer when playing solo literature on a non-pitch oriented instrument are identifying thematic structures and understanding how to interpret all innovative sound production techniques employed within the music. A thematic and compositional analysis, as well as an investigation into the experimentation of timbre found in Másson’s three pieces for solo snare drum will help to clarify the musical complexities that are present throughout.

Les etudes publiees et les travaux inedits sur l'oeuvre et la vie du peintre andre masson (ne a balagny, oise, 1896) que nous regroupons en 1986 representent l'etat des recherches et des interpretations engagees depuis 1972. Les recensions publiees, avec apparat critique et catalogue, sont l'anthologie des ecrits de l'artiste et le corpus de ses illustrations de livres. Une autre, en voie de publication, concerne sa correspondance. Le catalogue de l'oeuvre peint est en preparation. Le remaniement des faits et l'interpretation portent 1 sur la biographie,2 sur la notion d'automatisme, 3 sur la conception du mythe, 4 sur les liens de masson avec le surrealisme et plus generalement avec les ecrivains et la litterature. Nos sources sont en majorite inedites. L'etude des origines biographiques et des annees d'apprentissage de masson pose d'emblee la question des "savoirs" culturels au debut du siecle et des mutations sociales et symboliques qui affectent, des avant la guerre de 1914 dans son cas, ses reorientations artistiques (ou ideologiques). Le probleme de l'automatisme est resitue avec precision dans la perspective des origines cliniques du concept ; l'appropriation du terme par les surrealistes signifie une prise en compte (ambigue) de l'action de l'inconscient dans l'ecriture. Dans le cas des dessins de masson, sa definition bute sur son contraire : la construction, le style (importance des series, des ruptures). Differents types de savoirs se combinent et les "contextes" de reference sont permeables l'un a l'autre. Le mythe, d'abord repris par masson dans la tradition des "sujets" symbolistes, est ensuite retourne,. .<br>Our publications and unpublished essays on the life and work of the painter andre masson (born balagny, oise, 1896) gathered up to 1986 represent the essential of our researches and interpretations from 1972 on. The corpus published, with critical notes and historical presentation, are 1 the anthology of the painter's writings and the almost complete catalogue of his illustrated books. His correspondence is to be published too. The catalogue raisonne of the paintings and drawings is still in preparation, being computerized. The interpretation and change of appreciation which we suggest deal with 1 the biographical data 2 the notion of "automatism" 3 the idea of "myth" 4 the links with surrealism and more generally with writers and literature. Our sources are mostly new and unpublished. 1 studying the origins of masson's family and his formative years, we try to figure the cultural trends and essential "breaks" which appear to have determined, before the first world war, his new choices in his artistic and social activities. 2 studying "automatism", we replace the term in his historical context, mainly psychopathology and spiritism vs psychoanalysis ; his use by the surrealists reveals a very ambiguous attitude toward the unconscious. In the case of masson's "automatic drawings", we recognize the paradoxal presence of construction and stylistic series. Abstract:
Del surrealisme se n’ha parlat tant —i de Dalí, també— que sembla que ja no pugui dir-se res més de nou. Però l’interès que pot tenir aquest treball està en l’aportació d’un punt de vista diferent per fer-ne una nova interpretació allunyant-se dels tòpics que s’han anat repetint i proposant una nova lectura, en clau junguiana. Si el surrealisme és tan important no és pels complexos personals dels seus creadors, sinó perquè van aconseguir un llenguatge universal. I per accedir-hi és necessari fer la interpretació segons el sistema elaborat per C. G. Jung, que permet passar dels complexos personals freudians —dels que tant se n’ha parlat en el cas de Dalí, per exemple— als arquetipus, que són les imatges que ens connecten amb el llenguatge universal. Jung també permet explicar el desig de reconciliació dels contraris, una de les principals preocupacions dels surrealistes, i les suposades incoherències surrealistes. El surrealisme va néixer a la ciutat, però els parcs de París van ser un escenari per reflexionar sobre el sentiment de la natura, com veurem en les reflexions de Louis Aragon al Parc des Buttes-Chaumont. Dalí, en canvi, el sentiment de la natura el va tenir integrat des de petit, quan passava els estius a Cadaqués, un paisatge que va arribar a estimar fins a sentir-s’hi totalment integrat. Al llarg del treball s’ha remarcat la importància de la cosmogonia elaborada per Dalí a partir de la seva identificació, fins a l’òsmosi, amb el paisatge de Portlligat i de Cap de Creus, que el converteix en un representant contemporani del que els alemanys denominen la ˝filosofia de la Natura˝ (Die Naturphilosophie). Per això és necessari buscar en les seves pintures els arquetipus que donen forma als seus pensaments i sentiments davant la natura, i per això és necessari recórrer a Jung. És a destacar també la importància de la muntanya de Montserrat, presentada aquí com a vincle geofísic que permet lligar novament el surrealisme amb el Romanticisme alemany, ja que va ser la muntanya on Goethe i Schiller hi van trobar la grandesa del paisatge interior. En aquest treball es fa també un estudi comparatiu de la visió surrealista del Cap de Creus, amb Cadaqués i Portlligat, i de la muntanya de Montserrat, dos dels paisatges més màgics de Catalunya, la força misteriosa dels quals va captivar l’esperit poètic dels artistes surrealistes Salvador Dalí i André Masson respectivament. Així doncs, la hipòtesi desglossada d'aquest treball és que: 1. El pensament i el sentiment de Dalí el converteixen en un representant contemporani de la filosofia de la Natura. Per això aquí es presenta el misticisme de Dalí en relació a la natura independentment de la seva etapa religiosa. 2. El sentiment romàntic que genera la Natura no és només un sentiment propi del Romanticisme històric, sinó que ha existit sempre, que és inherent a la naturalesa humana i per tant, ha d’explicar-se per l’inconscient col•lectiu. 3. En el Romanticisme hi ha una constant preocupació: la consciència de la fragmentació de l’home, l’escissió de l’home de l’Univers i la intuïció d’unes forces inconscients que, com un abisme, s’oposaven a les conscients. Aquest abisme desconegut Freud el va anomenar inconscient quan va proposar una estructura i funcionament per a l’aparell psíquic, i els surrealistes van utilitzar les aportacions de Freud per tractar d’arribar al fons del desconegut, i poder alliberar-se del seu material reprimit. Pel que fa a la poesia onírica i la reconciliació dels contraris, s’ha de recórrer a Jung, per les seves tesis d’integració dels oposats.<br>Surrealism has been so discussed – and Dali as well – that it seems nothing new can be said about it. But the interest of this work lies in the contribution of a different point of view with a new interpretation far from the clichés which have been repeated over and over and offering a new reading, from a Jungian perspective. The system developed by C.G. Jung allows the passage from Freudian personal complexes to archetypes, which are the images that connect us to the universal language. Surrealism was born in the city, but the parks in Paris were a suitable setting to reflect about the feeling of nature. Dali, on the other hand, had integrated the feeling of nature since childhood, when he spent summers at Cadaqués, a landscape which he loved so much that he felt completely integrated into it. Throughout this work the importance of the cosmogony developed by Dali from his identification, even osmosis, with the landscape of Portlligat and Cap de Creus has been emphasized. The mountain of Montserrat is presented here as a geophysical bond which allows the linking of surrealism with German romanticism again, since the mountainside is the place where Goethe and Schiller found the beauty of inner landscape. Therefore, the broken down hypothesis of this work is that: 1. The thought and feeling of Dali make him a contemporary representative of the “Nature philosophy” (Die Naturphilosophie) 2. The romantic feeling generated by Nature is not just a feeling proper of historic Romanticism; moreover, it has always existed and it must be explained by means of the unconscious collective. 3. In Romanticism there is a constant worry: the conscience of the fragmentation of man, the scission of man from the Universe and the intuition of unconscious forces, like an abyss which, later, Freud called the unconscious and surrealists used Freud’s contribution in order to try to reach the bottom of the unknown. As regards oneiric poetry, the reconciling of opposites and the feeling of Nature, Jung has to be resorted to.

L'attitude du surréalisme a l'égard de l'antiquité et de la mythologie grecque semble parfois ambiguë car elle allie défiance et attraction. Ainsi, les surréalistes ont montré un gout tout particulier pour le mythe de narcisse comme le prouve sa récurrence tant dans la production littérature que picturale du mouvement. En peinture, André Masson et Salvador Dali sont paradigmatiques de la représentation de ce mythe dans le mouvement, le récit de l'éphèbe amoureux de lui-même sera à l'origine, chez les deux artistes, d'une production tant picturale et poétique. Dali peindra sa célèbre métamorphose de Narcisse en 1936-37 avant de reprendre le sujet en 1980 dans narcisse jeune endormi. Alors que Masson traitera le thème dans sept œuvres s'échelonnant de 1934 à 1973. Tous deux se sont inspirés des métamorphoses d’Ovide mais, si l'on distingue en filigrane des traces d'intertextualité, l'intervention de la sensibilité et des préoccupations de chaque artiste, associée a l'utilisation de sources littéraires plus modernes, parasite le texte antique. Des lors, les écarts par rapport à la tradition menant à une "réécriture" partielle du mythe, sous l'influence notamment de la psychanalyse. Choisir ce mythe pour un artiste n'est pas gratuit comme l'a montré Paul Valéry. Alors que Salvador Dali y voit à la fois l'occasion d'exposer pédagogiquement le narcissisme et de représenter son malaise existentiel jusqu'à sa rencontre avec gala. André Masson l'abordera a la lumière d'une réflexion sur le suicide qui privilégie dans la formation du moi l'élément<br>The attitude of surrealism towards antiquity and greek mythology is ambiguous : it combines suspicion and attraction. So surralists shown a particular predilecion for the myth of narcissus, as its presence in their litterature as much as in their painting attest it. Concerning the illustration of this myth, André Masson and Salvador Dali are the most representative artists in the surrealist movement : they both composed poetical texts, oil-paintings or drawings about this subject. Dali represented this theme twice in his career : the first time in 1936-37, with his famous metamosphosis of narcissus, the second time in joung narcissus asleep dated from 1980. In Masson's production, the subject appears seven times, between 1934 and 1973. Both of these artists knew the metamorphoses of Ovide, but their respective personnality, associate to the reading of modern texts, interfere in their interpretation of the myth. So that the differents in comparison with the antique text lead to a "rewriting" of the myth, interpreted by the means of psychoanalysis. To choose this myth is not innocent for an artist, as Paul Valery shown it. If Salvador Dali asserts that his ambition was to expose the narcissism in his work, he parallely exhibits his own perversity. With this myth, Masson conjures up the suicide associated to the existence of a sado-masochist element included in each humain being. Then, the subject changes to illustrate a fusion of man and nature and an existential philosophy

Comment le drame familial est-il représenté chez deux romanciers français – François Mauriac et Hervé Bazin – et deux romanciers mauriciens – Loys Masson et Marie-Thérèse Humbert – du XXe siècle ? A partir d’un corpus de cinq romans français et de cinq romans mauriciens, cette étude propose une démarche à la fois comparatiste, thématique, psychanalytique, sociocritique, narratologique et énonciative pour cerner, d’une part, les points communs aux deux littératures : la manifestation similaire du drame familial chez les deux groupes de romanciers, avec la récurrence du drame du couple, du drame de l’enfant et des mêmes types de procédés narratifs qui font ressortir le caractère inéluctable du drame familial. D’autre part, le cadre géographique aussi bien que socio-historique constitue la distinction majeure entre les deux groupes de romans. Du point de vue du cadre de l’énoncé, Mauriac et Bazin dépeignent surtout des drames de la bourgeoisie provinciale ; Masson et Humbert, des drames du « mauricianisme ». Du point de vue du cadre de l’énonciation, la correspondance, ou non, entre le cadre de l’énoncé et le cadre de l’énonciation donne lieu à une impression d’enracinement, ou de déracinement, des personnages, narrateurs et auteurs. Le constat est le suivant : l’enracinement concerne les romanciers français ; le déracinement, les romanciers mauriciens. Par ailleurs, d’autres perspectives de comparaison, comme l’ouverture possible de notre corpus de romanciers et de romans, ainsi que les différences entre deux auteurs ayant pourtant le même pays d’origine, nous donnent une autre vision : celle de drames familiaux pas tant « nationaux » qu’« individuels »<br>How do François Mauriac and Hervé Bazin (two French novelists), Loys Masson and Marie-Thérèse Humbert (two Mauritian novelists) depict domestic tragedy ? The thematic, comparative, psychoanalytical, sociological, narratological, as well as enunciative interpretation, of a corpus of five French novels and five Mauritian novels, first gives rise to the following : certain similar characteristics can be found between the French and the Mauritian literary texts, in terms of recurrence of the same expressions of domestic tragedy, from the point of view of both the child and the couple, and backed by comparable narrative techniques. However, one main difference between the two groups of authors lies in their opposite geographical, historical and social background. And yet, the possibility of widening our corpus of novelists and novels, together with the dissimilarities between authors of the same origin, contributes to a new concept of less “national” and more “individual” domestic tragedy

Feo-hifomicose refere-se a infecções por fungos pigmentados escuros. Revisamos a casuística brasileira entre 1953 e 2010, apresentando as características clínico-epidemiológicas e diagnósticas de 17 casos. Nas quais a coloração de hematoxilina-eosina foi usada para visualizar alterações estruturais nas lesões; a coloração da prata para identificação dos microrganismos; e coloração de Fontana-Masson confirmou a melanina na parede fúngica. Os fungos cresceram sob aspecto de micélio e produziam pigmentos de melanina, que dão às colônias cor negra característica. A observação das características microscópicas dos cultivos forneceu a identificação etiológica. A feo-hifomicose está amplamente disseminada no Brasil. Entretanto, é subestimada devido a fixação das biopsias em formol, o que impede o isolamento em cultivos.<br>Phaeohyphomycosis refers to infection caused by darkly pigmented fungi. We reviewed the Brazilian casuistic from 1953 to 2010 and presented the clinicalepidemiologic and diagnostic features of addictional 17 cases. In the cases hematoxilin and eosin stain was used to look for structural changes of the infected lesion; Gomori’s methenamine-silver stain identified these organisms; and Fontana-Masson staining confirm the presence of melanin fungal cell wall. The organisms formed mycelial colonies and produced melanin-like pigments that give the colonies the characteristic dark color. The microscopic study of cultures identified etiology. The phaeohyphomycosis is a widespread tropical disease in Brazil. However, it is underestimated due to formalin fixation tissue specimens that oppose the prior cultures.

Avant 2002, l’Outaouais urbain était composé de cinq municipalités autonomes. Or, le gouvernement du Québec a imposé la fusion de plusieurs municipalités faisant partie d’agglomérations urbaines en adoptant le projet de loi 170. En Outaouais, les villes d’Aylmer, Buckingham, Gatineau, Hull et Masson-Angers ont été regroupées pour ne former qu’une seule entité, la Ville de Gatineau. Cette recherche a pour objectif de comprendre comment les identités territoriales des citoyens qui ont vécu ce changement ont pu être influencées par la modification de la structure du territoire sur lequel se déroule une grande partie de leurs interactions sociales au quotidien. Les réponses fournies par 152 participants d’Aylmer et de Masson par l’entremise d’une enquête par questionnaire nous ont permis de dresser un portrait intéressant du point de vue des citoyens qui habitent deux secteurs périphériques de la ville de Gatineau. Somme toute, nous avons pu constater que les citoyens qui ont connu la fusion municipale ne s’identifient pas fortement à la nouvelle ville et qu’ils demeurent ancrés à leur ancienne municipalité.

Abstract:
This thesis is an examination of the work of William Mason, an eighteenth-century poet who, though highly regarded in his own time, is little known in ours. The thesis seeks to revalidate Mason as a poet worthy of attention in the twenty-first century. The Introduction contextualises Mason, both socially and culturally. Emphasis is given to the importance of Whig politics in his life and works, and to the influence upon him from an early age of the philosophy of John Locke. Attention is also drawn to Mason’s ability as an innovative adaptor of ancient genres, the importance to him of Milton’s verse, and the relevance of his ‘public’ poetry to modern Britain. The first part of Chapter One provides an overview of Mason’s poetic trajectory, from his popularity in the eighteenth century to his decline in the nineteenth. The general loss of interest in eighteenth-century poetry, and its revival in the twentieth, is considered. In the second part of the chapter, Mason’s youthful poetic claim to be the literary and moral descendant of Milton and Pope is examined in the context of his early monody, and its innovative purpose and style. Attention is drawn to the intertextuality that informs much of the poetry discussed in this thesis. The treatment of the Pindaric ode in the hands of earlier poets, and Mason’s far more authentic one, are subsequently discussed. Examples are given which illustrate Mason’s successful treatment of the genre, and of his concern with the preoccupations of the age. In Chapter Two Mason’s georgic, The English Garden, is examined. Consideration is given to Mason’s choice of Miltonic form, to the poet’s employment of his subject, gardening, as a representation of the state of the nation, and to the poet’s personal involvement in the verse in a variety of manifestations. His success in matching subject to form is demonstrated. Mason’s correspondence with Walpole concerning the American war, his collaboration with William Burgh, and his use of prose as well as poetry for political purposes, are discussed. Chapter Three provides a brief account of the attitudes to satire from the late seventeenth century to Pope’s death, and goes on to look at Mason’s own satire. His satires are discussed in the context of his political and literary relationships with Walpole, Gray, Pope and Churchill, and his concern with the issue of slavery is foregrounded. The individual satires are examined, and examples explored of Mason’s novel and varying employment of the genre in the service of his Whig viewpoint. The Conclusion draws together the points made in the body of the text, and claims a place for Mason amongst the eighteenth-century poets rediscovered by recent scholarship.

A identificação histopatológica dos agentes fúngicos é um método excelente de diagnóstico, devido ao fato de que as estruturas são facilmente identificadas por meio das técnicas histoquímicas. Até o momento, não dispõem-se de métodos aceitáveis para quantificação da atividade da infecção. Esta investigação protocola um método de estimativa para atividade biológica da criptococose através da determinação dos índice de brotamentos e carminofílico do Cryptococcus. Objetivos: Descrever os aspectos histopatológicos da criptococose através das técnicas histoquímicas básicas e especiais da micologia. Métodos: Foram avaliados 33 pacientes com diagnóstico histopatológico prévio da criptococose. Resultados: Houve predominância do sexo masculino. A idade variou entre 10 a 81 anos, com média de 45,6 anos. A criptococose é doença definidora dos casos de Aids, sendo considerado seu principal fator predisponente, seguido de transplantes. O trato respiratório é o mais envolvido. O microrganismos tem tropismo para o sistema nervoso central e apresenta disseminação para outros órgãos. Resultados falso-negativos é reflexo da deficiência de material capsular. A mortalidade foi de 36%, sendo o maior índice obervado até os 3 primeiros meses após o diagnóstico. A criptococose apresenta-se sob duas formas, reativa e paucireativa. Na infecção reativa, os organismos foram menos abundantes e predominantemente intracelulares aos histiócitos e às células gigantes. Na infecção paucireativa, há um grande número de leveduras, que proliferam-se extracelularmente e estão associadas a destruição do tecido afetado. Ambos infecções, reativas e paucireativas mostraram grande variação no índice de brotamento. O índice carminofílico foi menor nas infecção reativas, quando comparados a infecção paucireativa. Discussão: A coloração de Hematoxilina-Eosina é usada para visualizar as alterações estruturais das lesões, bem como da reação tecidual. A coloração da prata é a mais utilizada para identificação dos organismos fúngicos como o Cryptococcus. A coloração de Mucicarmim de Mayer detecta a cápsula mucopolissacarídica circundante corada na cor magenta. A coloração de FM oferece diagnóstico diferencial nos casos inconclusivos à coloração de Mucicarmim de Mayer. A quantificação de IB e IC é uma escala útil na interpretação da resposta inflamatória do hospedeiro e atividade biológica da criptococose.<br>The histopathologic identification from the fungal agents that's a method excellent of diagnostic, due the fact of what the structures são easily identified for histochemical techniques. So far, there is no methods you accepted about to measurement of biologic activity. This investigation aponta to an method of estimate of the activity biologic of cryptococcal infection by determination of the Budding Index and Carminophilic Index of the Cryptococcus. Objectives: Describes the histologic features of cryptococcosis by basic and special histochemical techniques of mycology. Methods: Have been evaluated 33 patients with previous cryptococcosis histopathologic diagnostic. Results: There is an predominance of the males. The age of the patients ranged from 10 to 81 years with a median value 45,4 years. The HIV infection was the main risk factor for disease, followg of transplants. The respiratory tract is the most frequently involved among the organ systems organs. The false-negative latex test are due to capsular deficiency. The moratlity rate was 36%, The high rate of 50% was observed between of 1 to 3 months. The cryptococcal infections is divided into two major histologic categories, reactive and paucireactive, based upon the host reaction. In reactive infection, the organisms were lessa abundant and were predominantly intracellular within histiocytes and giant cells. In paucireactive infection, thre is large numbers of yeats in the lesions, cryptococci proliferate extracellarly within the involved tissues, associated histologically with mucoid degeneration of the surrounding tissue. Both reactice and paucireactive infections showed great variation in Budding Index. The Carminophilic Inded was lower in the reactive infections, when compared with the paucireactive infection. In this Carminophilic Index presented higher measurements.. Discussion: The Hematoxilin-Eosin stain is used to look for strucutural changes of the infectd lesion, as well tissues reactions. The Gomori’s methenamine-silver stain is the more commonly used in identificatifying these organisms. The mucicarmine stain detecting the surrounding mucopolisacharides capsule of the magenta color. The Fontana-Masson staining offers differential diagnostic. The determination of IB and IC is an scale that relied, because it provides an interpretation of the host response and biological activity of the cryptoccosis.

This dissertation discusses the potential of the snare drum as a solo concert instrument. Four pieces from a collection entitled The Noble Snare are used for demonstration ("Homily" by Milton Babbitt, "Composed Improvisation for Snare Drum" by John Cage, "Peeping Tom" by Dan Senn, and "The Noble Snare" by Stuart Saunders Smith). In the absence of many traditional musical devices (i.e. melody and harmony), alternative means of expression are used by the composer. Each piece is discussed with regard to its distinctive compositional approach and inherent performance issues. Information is also given pertaining to the background of the Noble Snare series. This includes: the inspiration for the project, editorial issues, and its influence on snare drum performance. Much of this research was completed through interviews by with author with Sylvia Smith, publisher of The Noble Snare and owner of Smith Publications.

I denna studie undersöks individers generella attityder till vårdapplikationer som använder maskininlärning. Datainsamlingen har skett genom både kvalitativa och kvantitativa metoder som kompletterar varandra. Metoderna innefattar en enkätundersökning och två fokusgrupper baserade på scenario-based design. Teorin är baserad på forskning inom digitaliseringen av vården, bland annat maskininlärning och mHealth, som ligger till grund och stödjer undersökningen. Även teori om attityder och förtroende till digitaliseringen av vården har underbyggt undersökningen.I slutsatsen framkommer det att det finns en korrelation mellan hög medvetenhet och positiv inställning när det kommer det användandet av vårdapplikationer med maskininlärning. Den generella attityden till att få en diagnos av maskininlärning är negativ då de flesta föredrar att få en diagnos förmedlad av en läkare. Studien indikerar på att detta kan bero på att patienterna söker empati från vården, vilket artificiell intelligens saknar. Förtroendet för en vårdapplikation grundar sig främst i ryktet om den men även i vilket företag eller organisation som ligger bakom. Studien indikerar på att individer är positivt inställda till att bidra med privat hälsodata till en vårdapplikation om det leder till förebyggande av sjukdom. Studien ger även en antydan på att det finns en rädsla kring var privata hälsodata hamnar när den har lämnats ut.<br>This study aims to research on individuals’ general attitudes towards healthcare applications that use machine learning. The data collection has taken place through both qualitative and quantitative methods as a complement to each other. The methods include a questionnaire survey, two focus groups based on scenario-based design. The theory is based on research in the digitalisation of healthcare, including machine learning and mHealth, which is based and supports the investigation. The theory of attitudes and confidence in the digitalisation of care also forms the basis for the study.The conclusion shows that there is a correlation between high awareness and positive attitude when it comes to the use of healthcare applications with machine learning. The general attitude towards a diagnosis from machine learning is negative since most people prefer to get a diagnosis mediated by a doctor. The study indicates that this may be because the patients seek empathy from the healthcare system, which artificial intelligence lacks of. Trust towards a healthcare application is based primarily on the reputation of it, but also in which company or organization that is behind it. The respondents in the survey are positive about contributing with their personal data to a healthcare application if it leads to a prevention of a disease. The study also gives an indication that there is a fear of what happens with private health data.

<p>Den föreliggande uppsatsen är av teoretisk art och syftar till att skildra synen på massan och massamhället hos en utvald grupp samhällstänkare, vilka var verksamma främst under 1800-talet och en bit in på 1900-talet. Under denna period så var massamhället och dess konsekvenser ett hett diskussionsämne bland konstnärer, skönlitterära författare, samhällstänkare och politiker då man ansåg att de stora sociala och politiska förändringarna som skedde i samtiden hade skapat ett, på många sätt, nytt samhälle som krävde analys och förklaring. Exempelvis så skedde stora mänskliga förflyttningar till städerna, den industriella revolutionen och omfattande demokratiseringsprocesser förändrade, på många håll i Europa, den sociala och politiska organisationen. Ur dessa förändringar föddes diskussionen om massamhället och <em>massan</em>. Materialet som ligger till grund för uppsatsen är två mer eller mindre avgränsade idéströmningar, nämligen den <em>aristokratiska liberalismen</em> och <em>masspsykologin.</em> Avsikten är att skildra dessa två idéströmningar och deras olika sätt att se på massan och massamhället som fenomen. Utöver dessa två huvudinriktningar så anknyter jag även till andra samhällstänkare där dessa kan bidra till att nyansera skildringen av massan. Denna del av diskussionen bygger på förförståelsen att samhället är en historisk konstruktion vilket gör att en förståelse av historien är av vikt för att förstå dagens samhälleliga förhållanden och problem.</p>

Abstract:
Alcohol is a substance used and abused by many individuals. The metabolic perturbations caused by excessive alcohol consumption are widespread throughout the human body. One of the primary consequences of alcohol abuse, particularly acute alcohol abuse, is very high levels of NADH formed from excessive ethanol oxidation. A high NADH:NAD+ ratio shifts the redox potential of the cells, shifting the normal physiological equilibrium, particularly within NAD-dependent dehydrogenase-catalyzed reactions. These particular reactions occur within various metabolic pathways, such as: citric acid cycle, glycolysis and branched-chain amino acid catabolism. As such, a disruptive effect within these metabolic pathways results in the slight accumulation of perturbation markers that can be associated with alcohol abuse. Isolation and identification of these widespread perturbation markers is difficult as they only occur in quantities only slightly higher than normal physiological values. Metabolomics makes for a very aptly used technique as it takes a holistic approach, taking into consideration the entire metabolic profile; and, with the aid of bioinformatics, is able to isolate and identify particular variables/metabolites of interest and accredit them as the variables responsible for the greatest variation between control and experimental groups. A novel approach used within this investigation effectively reduced the voluminous metabolomics data generated allowing for more efficient multivariate analysis. Application of three separate statistical models, namely: (1) Unfolding PCA, (2) Cross-sectional PCA, and (3) ANOVA Simultaneous Component Analysis (ASCA), were used for analyzing the complex 3-dimensional data set created within this acute alcohol abuse investigation. Each model presented certain strengths and difficulties. Taking into consideration the results from all 3 models, the first phase of this investigation confidently illustrates the differentiation between control cases and individuals administered an acute alcohol dose and, subsequently allow for variables responsible for this separation to be: identified as variables of importance, selected and categorized into specific pathways and, finally, labelled as perturbation markers. Through experimental observation it was noted that a large number of perturbation markers associated with the branched-chain amino acid pathway were present within the experimental cases. A hypothesis was created from this observation, re-enforcing the principle that metabolomics is a hypothesis-generating system. The subsequent second phase of this investigation involves a targeted experimental protocol aimed at evaluating the proposed hypothesis, with a focus on three secondary metabolites of the isoleucine catabolism pathway (ethylhydracrylic acid, tiglylglycine and 2-methyl-3hydroxybutyric acid). Results of this targeted approach show a definite perturbance, similar to a very minor inherited metabolic disorder, occurs within the isoleucine catabolism pathway in response to an acute alcohol dose. As to our knowledge, no information pertaining to the influences of acute alcohol abuse (or even chronic alcohol abuse) within the branched-chain amino acid pathway exists within the current literature, as of date. As such, the experimental observations presented and evaluated within this investigation provide a novel and more in-depth insight into the ethanol-induced perturbances within human metabolism.<br>Thesis (M.Sc. Les résultats montrent l’intérêt d’un enseignement structuré qui peut contribuer à développer, dés le début du cursus de formation en masso-kinésithérapie, une posture d’éducateur en santé facilitant in fine l’autonomisation du patient quant à la gestion de sa problématique de santé<br>This study is designed to question the concept of somatopsychic pedagogy in initial training of physiotherapy, to explore the theoretical foundations, to reflect on a pedagogical approach to implement the strategy and to examine the conditions of this implementation. A methodology based on surveys conducted among students and training institutes in physiotherapy on the French territory allowed to gather information on the optimum conditions for establishment such a teaching. The results show the interest of a structured teaching which can help to develop, in the beginning of the curriculum for training in physiotherapy, a health educator posture facilitating ultimately empowering the patient with respect to the management of his health problem

Nous étudions l’indice de Maslov asymptotique pour de difféomorphismes de surface. En mots, cette quantité est la limite de la vitesse angulaire moyenne des vecteurs tangents qui évoluent sous l’action de la différentielle du difféomorphisme. Pour des applications déviant la verticale de l’anneau, nous montrons que l’ensemble des points d’indice zéro a une dimension d’Hausdorff supérieure ou égale à 1. Dans le cadre des applications déviant la verticale conservatives, nous prouvons que chaque région d’instabilité bornée a un ensemble de mesure de Lebesgue positive de points d’indice non nul. Finalement, nous étudions cet indice en présence de points périodiques hyperboliques avec intersections homoclines transverses, en donnant des exemples de points auxquels l’indice de Maslov asymptotique n’existe pas<br>We study the asymptotic Maslov index for surface diffeomorphisms. Roughly speaking,this quantity is the limit of the average rotational velocity of tangent vectors which evolveunder the action of the differential of the diffeomorphism. For twist maps on the annulus,we prove that the set of points of zero index has Hausdorff dimension at least one. In theframework of conservative twist maps, we show that every bounded instability region has apositive Lebesgue measure set of points with non zero index. Finally, we study such indexin the presence of periodic hyperbolic points with transverse homoclinic intersections,providing examples of points at which the asymptotic Maslov index does not exist
