Full textOur purpose with the present research was to demonstrate the relationship between the high level reading processes and the resolution of arithmetic problems in 5th grade students from a private school in Cercado de Lima. To reach this objective, a quantitative focus was used, from a co-relation type and a nonexperimental design, to a 100 student population from Innova Schools, located in Cercado de Lima. The reading processes battery evaluation was applied, reviewed PROLECR – syntactic and semantic processes, elaborated by Cuetos, Rodríguez, Ruano y Arribas (2007) and the resolution of arithmetic problems test EVAMAT 5, elaborated by García Vidal, García Ortiz, Gonzales Manjón, Gonzales Cejas, Jiménez Fernández y Jiménez Mesa (2010). The results obtained, confirmed a significant correspondence between the high level reading processes and the resolution of arithmetic problems. Also, when the syntactic and semantic processes were compared to the resolution of arithmetic problems, better results were obtained in the semantic processes.

Full textThe present research paper provides knowledge for the elaboration, application and analysis of the results obtained from a workshop carried out with elementary school teachers from I.E. N° 20402 Virgen de Fátima in the city of Huaral, in which four activities where applied with aims to estimulate their creative ability by posing addition and subtraction problems of natural numbers by variation. We see few spaces for developing strategies for problem posing in the school textbooks the government provides. Likewise, in the Curricular Design for Teacher Training, the strategies for problem posing are not provided to teachers in training either, even though the regulatory documents clearly state that elementary school students shall pose their problems. Therefore, a paper addressing these issues is necessary, and that is the concern of the present research. To be precise, we will support the development of the research workshops on Malaspina’s Episode, Pre-problem and Post-problem strategies (EPP strategies) and on Arnal’s Ethnographic Methodology. The general objective of our study is to analyze the effect of the EPP proposal, oriented to stimulate the ability to pose addition and subtraction problems of natural numbers in elementary school teachers through in-class Episodes set in the context of their real job. When our research paper was done, it was perceived that the natural, creative ability the participants possesed increased with the EPP strategy, and the selfconfidence they had on their creative ability also improved. After applying the EPP strategy, the participants thought that problem posing by Variation is appropriate and relevant because the steps to pose them are simple and they allow them to approach mathematics with problems according to students’ needs and concerns. Additionally, they expressed their intention to use the EPP strategies learned in the workshops as an opportunity to improve their teaching and learning processes, as well as a way to contribute so their students can pose their own problems as part of their learning process.

"Rendimiento de los estudiantes de 6° grado de primaria en la prueba FAB de resolución de tareas de alta y baja demanda cognitiva referidas a fracciones." Master's thesis, Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, 2018. http://tesis.pucp.edu.pe/repositorio/handle/123456789/12354.
Full textThis work is important because the assessment results allow us to identify the performance of students in 6th grade in a private school in solving tasks about fractions of high and low cognitive demand. This is a descriptive investigation. The main objective is to identify performance and compare the results between genders and demand levels: high and low on the scale of Stein. To achieve this goal we design an ad hoc instrument called test FAB that was subjected to a process of validity and reliability. To gather information a test was applied to a sample of 59 students from sixth grade. To get information, we applied the test to a sample of 59 students in sixth grade of primary education in a private school in Lima, the sample consisted of 34 girls and 25 boys aged 11 and 12 years old. The results show that students can solved correctly tasks related to fractions of low cognitive demand. However, they cannot solve tasks related to fractions of high cognitive demand. In this sense, it is concluded that students solve tasks of low cognitive demand but do not solve cognitive tasks high demand which highlights the lack of challenging mathematical experiences and high impact that will allow the student to use all means to solve a problem, making connections and relationships having understood the nature of it.

Full textThe present research paper aims to get information on the creative and mathematical abilities of 6th grade elementary students of a public education center in Peru by analyzing the problems they posed on addition, subtraction and multiplication of decimal expressions. In order to obtain information regarding creative abilities, we examined the originality, flexibility and fluency shown in the problem, and for the mathematical abilities, we examined the solutions to the problems we proposed and the ones they posed themselves, as well as the logical coherence between information and requirements when posing problems. As a result of the performed analysis, we concluded that students show high levels of flexibility, fluency and clarity when posing problems by elaboration; that originality is not too high due to the tendency to imitate problems done previously; that students reveal a higher problem posing ability when they know the context and dominate the mathematical environment; and that group work is more productive than the individual one. We found high mathematical abilities regarding the resolution of the proposed and posed problems as well as the logical coherence in the posed problems.

Full textA didactic proposal is exposed in this thesis for teaching quadrilaterals based on the Van Hiele model to fifth grade elementary school students. This model consists of two aspects, which are the descriptive and the prescriptive one. The descrptive one aims to identify a student’s level of reasoning, and the prescriptive one, which is the methodological part, allows for designing activities in each level of reasoning, which may allow the student to move to the inmediate superior level of reasoning. This way, we are looking to identify the educational practices that contribute to students reaching a more assertive attitude in geometric definition appropriation, and to establish relations between the properties of the quadrilaterals. On the other hand, the research–action methodology aims to improve the teaching practice by integrating intellectual work and reflection with experience. Applying a didactic proposal, designed in didactic activities, allows us to analyze and describe the acquisition process of the reasoning levels in elementary students on the quadrilateral mathematical object. This allows us to state that applying a sequence of didactic activities, whose design is based on the Van Hiele model, allows fifth grade elementary students to achieve the II level of geometric reasoning.

Master's thesis, Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, 2015. http://tesis.pucp.edu.pe/repositorio/handle/123456789/6782.
Full textThis research aims to analyze, based on the theory of Parzysz, the development of geometrical thinking, specifically the transit from G0 to G1 stage in fourth graders (9 to 10 years old) when they study the notion of cube and its elements, through a didactical sequence in which the solid material and the environment of Cabri 3D dynamic geometry were used. Thus, the following research question was raised: Did fourth-grade students of primary education develop their geometrical thinking in the G0 and G1 stages while studying the concept of cube and its elements in a didactical sequence with the solid material and Cabri 3D?. For this study, we have considered the development of Parzysz´s Geometrical Thinking as our theoretical framework, and some aspects of Artigue´s Didactical Engineering as our methodological framework. The didactical sequence of the experimental part consisted of two activities. The first activity had four questions designed to identify the students’ development of geometrical thinking in the G0 and G1 stages in which they studied the particular solid cube. The second activity had also four questions designed to distinguish the G0 and G1 geometrical thinking development stages in which they studied the cube and its elements by using Cabri 3D. Finally, we considered that the development of both activities allowed us to identify and study the transit of the students from G0 to G1 stages while developing the didactical sequence mentioned above. We also believed that the use of Cabri 3D in the second activity was substantial for the development of students’ geometrical thinking due to the direct manipulation and drag that this dynamic geometrical environment possesses which has facilitated this development.

Full textThe present research work focuses on the study of the meanings attributed to the fraction in certain mathematical contexts that go beyond the part - whole relationship. Diverse investigations report the lack of solvent dominance on the part of the students of primary and even secondary in the resolution of problems with rational numbers that would have origin in the complexity of the same mathematical object and of the diverse meanings that can be attributed to the fractions. Therefore, the central objective of this thesis is to build and analyze a Mathematical Organization on the meanings associated with the fractions in a Collection of Workbooks of Primary Education and identify those that predominate in this educational level and how they are articulated. For this, the theoretical tools of the Anthropological Theory of the Didactic and the methodology based on the bibliographical study and the analysis of texts are used. A reference epistemological model is constructed for the meanings of the fractions and based on it, six types of tasks are defined. From this a Mathematical Organization is constructed for each Workbook and then the degree of completeness of the Collection is analyzed using Fonseca's criteria of completeness. Finally, the main conclusion is that in the Mathematical Organization of the Workbook Collection, the meaning of the fraction as a part - whole relationship predominates, this being the basis for working extra - mathematical tasks on a fraction as a measure, operator, quotient and ratio.as well as its decimal representation; likewise, the tasks of this didactic material have more than one form of solution and are integrating which allows the extension of the techniques.

Full textResearch focuses on the analysis of a sequence of activities with pupils of the second grade of primary education, based on the five stages of the cycle of research (PPDAC) the thought statistical proposed by Wild and Pfannkuch, to reveal if it allows students to move through this cycle and will answer questions from the first and second level of reading and interpretation of double tables input according to the proposal made by Curcio. We developed this research through a case study as a research methodology, which allowed us to visualize the way that students move from one phase to another cycle of research of statistical thinking and able to read and interpret information presented in double tables input. Our main result was that the sequence of activities posed not only allowed students to transit through the research cycle proposed by Wild and Pfannkuch, but also responds to questions of the first level of reading and interpretation of tables and graphic statistics of Curcio, showing difficulty to respond to questions from the second level.

Full textThe aim of this study is to describe and analyze the mathematical organization related to the mathematical object "quadrilateral" in chapter 4 of a fifth grade of primary education textbook, which was made at the request of the Ministry of Education and is used by public educational institutions of our country. We did our research on the basis of the Anthropological Theory of the Didactic, which gave us the necessary elements to describe the mathematical organization in the textbook. For the description we use the elements of this theory, such as the types of tasks, the techniques involved, the theoretical and technological discourse behind these techniques. Also for the mathematical organization analysis we use the criteria of completeness of Fonseca. In terms of methodology, we rely on qualitative research, biographical-type. The results of our investigation show the presence of 9 types of tasks, 23 tasks, 6 techniques, 14 technological elements and a theory. Regarding the analysis of Fonseca completeness indicators (OML1- OML7), we observe that (OML1-OML6) indicators are partially achieved and (OML7) indicator is not achieved. This allows us to conclude that mathematical organization in chapter four of the fifth grade of primary education textbook has a relatively complete degree of completeness.

Full textIn this Project some research was conducted to describe and analyze a sixth grade textbook of primary school, which was distributed for free by the Ministry of Education of Peru. Our main interest is to know how the topic related to fractions is presented in that textbook taking the EMR theory into account, and also, to know how to present phenomena such as the whole part function, measurement, ratio, quotient and operator. It should be said that the EMR theory has its own methodology, which is called phenomenology. At the beginning, we consider part of the first chapter the reason to carry out this research. We also describe in detail the investigation conducted into fractions, the approach to the problem is shown and, aims are outlined. In the second chapter, we describe the theory we will use, which is EMR. In the third chapter, we define the concept of fractions proposed by two investigations and which we regard as the most suitable when it comes to fractions. In the fourth chapter, the criteria we use to analyze the textbook can be found. Finally, in the fifth chapter, the whole text is examined in order to reach conclusions regarding our aims and, this way, show evidence of the presence of phenomena associated with fractions as specialists suggest and, finally we make recommendations for future research.

Full textThis research aims to analyze how students 6-7 years of age, who are in first grade of primary school, passing through the research cycle of statistical thinking when working with tables and bar graphs. To use an activity which we designed according to the phases of the research cycle: Problem, Plan, Data Analysis and Conclusions (PPDAC). So we have the following research question: How do students first grade of primary education transiting cycle thinking when developing statistical tables and graphs related to bar activities? In our work we take as a reference the proposed Wild and Pfannkuch, on the development of statistical thinking because we believe that is a process that can be built from the earliest grades of basic education. Also we consider reading levels proposed by Curcio to identify the reading done by students on information presented in tables or bar charts. We used a qualitative research methodology such as case study because we want to recognize and describe how students pass through the phases of the research cycle when working with tables and bar charts. In conclusion we mention that the development of the activity allowed students to first grade of primary education transiting the research cycle and read direct information presented in tables and bar graphs, thus achieving the first level of reading Curcio.
