Full textThe interface between a bituminous and cement pavement of the composite structures is studied, firstly using DEM simulations of a direct shear test and secondly via the analysis of the numerical and experimental response of double-layered to a signal radar. In the first part, we initially observed, by the analytical method, that debonding considerably decreases the life service of these structures. Then, we highlighted, by the Distinct Elements method, the influence of the contact bond, the friction and the particles grading on the shear strength. In the second part, the radar system is applied to detect the interface defects. We highlight the influence of the nature and thickness of the various types of interfaces (bonding , debonding and damaged of cement material) using the maximum amplitude and of the time delay of the signal reflected on the interfaces

Full textThe oxidative coupling of methane (OCM) allowed the direct transformation of methane into ethylene (C2). Until now, the catalytic process does not reach the required criteria of selectivity and yield. The presence of gaseous oxygen at high temperature (T>700°C) favors the total oxidation. The use of a dense membrane reaction (MR), made of mixed ionic and electronic materials, limits the gaseous oxygen in the reaction compartment and thus improve the C2 selectivity. The goal of this PhD is to develop catalytic membranes exhibiting a flux high enough to reach a conversion higher than 25% and of which the catalytic coating leads to a C2 selectivity of 80%. An innovative method, based on a microkinetic approach, has been developed to determine the oxygen flux across a membrane from measurements on corresponding powders (isotopic exchange and TGA). The adsorption and diffusion constants obtained are then introduced in the flux equation simulating the semi-permeability. The methodology, validated on three materials: Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3-δ (BSCF), La0.6Sr0.4Co0.2Fe0.δ et Ba0.95La0.05FeO3-δ, will allow to accelerate the discovery of new oxygen conducting. The OCM tests have been achieved on BSCF membrane modified by a thin layer of catalyst. Two catalysts have been selected: Mn/NaWO4 highly selective and LaSr/CaO highly active. The yield in membrane reactor cannot overstep 6%. A critical analysis has been achieved in order to design an optimal membrane reactor geometry for this reaction

Full textThe main objective of this study is to acquire data on the dissolution of (U, Pu)O2 compounds to support the understanding of the phenomena occurring during the dissolution steps of MOX fuels irradiated in light water or sodium fast reactors. Previous studies, in particular on unirradiated MOX fuel, have highlighted the complexity of understanding the dissolution mechanisms through a direct approach. Indeed, the dissolution depends on a large number of parameters, which are mainly chemical dissolution parameters (acidity, temperature…). But it also depends on the physico-chemical characteristics of the fuel pellets (plutonium content, homogeneity of the plutonium content, microstructure, geometry...), a majority of which being highly dependent on the manufacturing process used. To avoid getting averaged responses due to the presence of heterogeneity in the Pu distribution in pellets, it is proposed to carry out a study on single-phase compounds in the shape of powders characterized by a well-defined stoichiometry (U and Pu) and a perfectly determined morphology. A step approach allowed the determination of the key parameters controlling the dissolution kinetics of these actinide oxides (specific surface area, crystal size, Pu content, activity of nitrate ions, dissolution temperature).A global kinetics law describing the dissolution kinetics of U1-xPuxO2 oxides was established from 45 dissolution tests (with 0≤x≤1, [HNO3] and temperature ranging from 1.5 to 8.5M and from 50 to 95°C respectively). Despite the 5 orders of magnitude between dissolution kinetics of UO2 and PuO2, the model shows a good precision. Additional dissolution tests were conducted on different single-phase oxide powders to validate the predictive quality of this model

Full textMixed Conductors (MIECs) are promising membrane materials for oxygen separating from air at high temperature. The oxygen semi-Permeation is the most important property of the membrane. This property induces a chemical potential gradient, which is the origin of some membrane ruptures. Forecasting gradients in service and the knowledge of MIECs mechanical properties are necessary for predict the reliability of future power plants. While the diffusion is well described by the Wagner theory, no consensus has yet emerged regarding the surface exchange models proposed in the literature. Furthermore, these models describe the stationary state, and cannot be extended to the transient stage. In this thesis, a new surface exchange model is proposed. This model takes into account the association/dissociation of oxygen and the high energetic cost of oxygen reduction/oxidation thanks to the balance of a transient species only present at the surface. This model can reproduce stationary state and transient stage. In parallel, a test device for characterizing the mechanical properties of the MIECs has been developed at 900 ° C. The test is “pseudo-Brazilian test” instrumented by an optical measurement. Post-Processing is carried out by a "Integrated Digital Image Correlation" method. The elastic properties of seven mixed conductors have been characterized

Full textDue to creep process, a new method based on M integral, separating mixed-modes fractures in viscoelastic material, is presented in this thesis. In the first time, a numerical modelling of M is proposed and compared with an analytical formulation given by Helmholtz’s free energy density. In this fact, the non dependence domain integration is proven. In the same time, the different evolutions of energy release rate G versus time are shown. In the second time, a generalization of M to crack growth process is proposed. The analytical development is based on conservative laws and a combination of real and virtual fields. According to an incremental viscoelastic formulation, the proposed numerical crack growth algorithm is resolved with finite element software CASTEM. In this case, the non dependence domain integration is also shown. So, the different evolutions of G versus time, crack speed and crack length are posted. This fact proves the capacity of the proposed model to traduce efficiently the mixed-modes fractures separation and viscoelastic effect. Finally, a new 2MCG (Mixed-Mode Crack Growth) specimen, traducing viscoelastic characteristics due to creep loading is proposed. Its design results from a judicious compromise between DCB (Double Cantilever Beam) and CTS (Compact Tension Shear) specimens, but also, by the observation of an instantaneous energy release rate stability given by the previous M integral. Thanks to a press and the images analysis, several instantaneous tests have been performed in order to traduce the crack length and the critical values of the load F and G. At the end, a real viscoelastic integrating the crack initiation, the critical time and the length of the process zone in mixed mode is proposed
