Purpose. To determine the relationship between maternal confidence, maternal characteristics and experiences with nursing support during pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period. The findings indicated no significant differences among the age groups in relation to infant birth weight nor in relation to the risk factors of smoking, maternal weight gain, trimester of first entry into prenatal care, or marital status They did indicate a significant difference [F(2,85) = 4.1364, p < .05] between the oldest and the youngest group (CD = 3.37, a = .05) in relation to gestational length. The purpose of this study was to describe maternal fatigue during the first six weeks postpartum. Forty-eight healthy, primiparous mothers who experienced uncomplicated vaginal births in a large urban hospital were asked to complete the Maternal Piper Fatigue Scale during their hospital stay, and at two and six weeks postpartum. Fatigue intensity was relatively high at two days and two weeks, but had significantly declined to a relatively "normal" level by six weeks postpartum. Excerpt: In their recent study [ 1 ], Lavesson et al. concluded, “In febrile parturients, neither maternal nor fetal temperatures dropped after paracetamol, but paracetamol halted an increasing trend and stabilized the fetal temperature. The effect of paracetamol on maternal temperature was inconclusive”. This thesis describes the development of a curriculum for a prenatal breastfeeding workshop and the randomized controlled trial that was completed to test the hypotheses that the workshop would have a positive influence on maternal breastfeeding self-efficacy and that increased self-efficacy would positively affect breastfeeding duration. To compare maternal prenatal attachment between Anglo and Mexican American women, 68 low-risk primigravidae at 23 to 41 weeks gestation were recruited from childbirth classes, prenatal clinics, and a private obstetrician's office. The respondents completed a questionnaire that included the Muller Prenatal Attachment Inventory as well as provided information on ethnic identity and demographic variables. The purpose of this research was to investigate the relationship between specific infant and maternal characteristics with the developmental outcome of low birth weight infants. Birth weight was statistically significant in relation to the Mental Developmental Index (p =.001) and the Psychomotor Developmental Index for chronologic age (p =.023). Birth weight predicted 25% of the variance in infant cognitive development and 24% in infant motor development.
