<p class="06IsiAbstrak"><span lang="EN-US">A hypothesis telling that students' mathematics logical ability differences are caused by memorizing the Qur'an, is the focus of this research. The researcher in this research analyzes whether there is correlation between logical-mathematical ability and memorization the Qur'an and the overview. Quantitative and qualitative analysis is used to reveal the correlation between logical-mathematics intelligence and the Qur'an memorization. Logical-Mathematical Intelligence test, Qur'an memorization test, interview, and observation are used as instruments in the research. Twenty-eight students in the mathematics study program are as the subject of research where all students have already joined logical-mathematical subject. Based on the result<s>s</s> obtained, overall, logical-mathematical intelligence and Qur'an memorization have a positive linear correlation. The more the students memorize the Qur’an the more the students have logical-mathematical intelligence. It is illustrated in the results, there are 6 different types of numerical indicators when viewed from the level of quantity and quality of memorizing the Qur'an. The same number is also reflected in abstract indicators and spatial relations. Each of them shows 6 different types of logical-mathematical intelligence when viewed from the level of quantity and quality of the Qur'an memorization. The research result also shows the benefits of memorizing the Qur'an which provides positive changes on students learning patterns. Abstract:
The science of Islam sourced from the Qur'an and Hadith should not be positioned in a place apart from other clusters of science, but should be put as a source of knowledge. The Qur'an and Hadith as the source of Islamic teachings serve as guidance (al-huda), explanation (at-tibyan), differentiator (al-furqan), and even healer (as-syifa'). There are many mathematical studies in the Qur'an that describe the science integrated in the Qur'an. One of the Qur'an explains about mathematical concepts such as set, line, calibrate, integer, fraction, and circle. Mathematics is a central science in everyday life and mathematics has been introduced early on. Mathematics is the language used in the creation of the universe. Thus, to learn and understand the verses of Kauniyyah is necessary mathematics. Understanding of the universe will lead to the awe of the power of Allah SWT. In addition, mathematics is also capable of providing a deeper approach to understanding Qawliyyah verses. Muslim scientists contribute thoughts and findings on mathematics. This proves that there is no dichotomy between science and religion. Keywords: science, mathematics, Qur’an

Abstract:
AbstractIslam is a rational religion. Islam, through the Koran, can prove its rationality by proof of its perennial teachings. Rational perennial teachings are derived in profane life through scientific reasoning as well as mathematics and its derivatives. The verses of al-Qur'an are a form of aqliyah statement which is a guide for knowledgeable people to organize their lives in guiding their journey to find the truth. The proofs of rationality (aqliyah) in the Koran always prioritize logic but do not ascribe to al-Haqq. Mathematics is only a tool to absolute truth, but absolute truth belongs only to al-haqq. Muslim scientists who use their rationality have found their rational logic in discovering sciences to dissect knowledge so that it is beneficial to humans, however their devotion to Allah is getting stronger when breaking knowledge that was once empty into reality. Therefore, the rationality of the Qur'an can be described in mathematics, as a science that is full of the virtues of reason and logic. Keywords: Mathematics, Rationality, Perennialism, Al-Qur'an, Aqliyah, AbstrakIslam adalah agama rasional.

Abstract:
This article tries to discuss about mathematics and islamic thought. By seeing the relationship between mathematics and islamic teaching resources, this article found that science in this world can be classified into three groups, namely natural sciences, social science, and humanities. The natural sciences which consist purely consist of physics, chemistry, and biology, and some people enter mathematics again. The social sciences that fall into the category of pure sciences include sociology, anthropology, psychology, and history. Whereas the humanities consist of philosophy, language and literature, and art. Qur’an and Hadith in the development of science are positioned as sources of qawliyyah verses while the results of observations, experiments, and logical reasoning are positioned as sources of kauniyyah verses. With its position like this, then various branches of knowledge can always be sought from the source of the Qur'an and Hadith. Like, the science of mathematics developed on the basis of the Qur'an and Hadith sources as well as the results of observation, experimentation, and logical reasoning. Mathematics itself has a very close relationship with the spiritual traditions of Muslims, is familiar with the Qur'an, and of course mathematics can also be used as a "path" towards achieving happiness benefits both in this world and the hereafter.

Abstract:
Pancasila was the basic ideology of the Indonesian nation. The values contained in Pancasila underlie all aspects of the social life of the Indonesian people. But now the reality, trans-national Islamic ideologies appear among some Indonesian. Citizens of radical groups strongly oppose the formulation of Pancasila as the state ideology. Among these groups was Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI). HTI rejects (3rd precept) Indonesian unity as the constitutional principle of the Indonesian nation. Democracy was seen as inconsistent with Islamic principles. Even Pancasila was called a kufr ideology that must be rejected because it is contrary to the Qur'an. The purpose of this study is to determine the relevance of the values of the Qur'an with the meanings contained in Pancasila and how to instill the values of the Qur'an and Pancasila in learning mathematics. Pancasila as the ideology of the Indonesian nation does not conflict with the Qur'an. The values of the Qur'an were contained in the elaboration of each precept. What was taught in Pancasila actually taught in the Qur'an. The values of the Qur'an in Pancasila can actually be applied in learning mathematics. Hence, the integration between mathematics and the Qur'an can be realized. Keywords: The Values Qur’an, Mathematics Learning, Integrated Qur’an

Abstract:
This article reveals exploration of mathematical models and concepts in <em>QS An-Nur: 24:26</em>. This research stems from the ineffectiveness of learning mathematics because the process does not begin with students' initial understanding. In fact, according to NCTM, teaching and learning will be effective if it starts from what students know. In Islamic school students, initial knowledge can be extracted from the Qur'an because the Qur'an is a learning tool in believing in Islam, so it is recognized that the verses of the Qur'an are contained in the cognitive structure of students, which can facilitate learning. Unfortunately, the sources of learning mathematics and the Qur'an used by Islamic schools have not covered all topics of learning mathematics, so to complete it, it is necessary to model the verses of the Qur'an related to mathematics. This research was conducted to obtain mathematical modeling and concepts at the high school/equivalent level using the Miles and Huberman analysis method combined with Blum and Leib modeling and Abdussakir theory and Pseudo concrete. Based on the combination of analytical theory, the modeling and mathematical concepts contained are relations, surjective and bijective functions, inverse functions, and reflections.

Elmir, Mouna. "M. A. Abdel Haleem’s Approach in Translating Qur’anic Verses of War: A Critical Discourse Analysis." Thesis, The University of Sydney, 2018. http://hdl.handle.net/2123/19792.

Full text
Abstract:
Various translations of the Qur’an have been produced by Muslims and non-Muslims. These translators have applied different strategies to produce informative and faithfully translated versions of the Qur’an, understood by people from different social and educational backgrounds. The significance of maintaining the religious aspects of the Qur’an is reflected in the misconceptions of many verses in the Qur’an to date. To this end, the main argument that generates the research questions of this study is whether the contextual meaning of the twenty verses concerning war are clearly explained in Qur’an translations, and to what extent the translator is responsible for any misconceptions. Having investigated several Qur’an translations and identified different strategies adopted by translators, the present study critically analyses one of the most influential and contemporary translations: M. A. S. Abdel Haleem’s translation (2010). This study analyses the English equivalents given by Abdel Haleem to the twenty verses concerning war from a Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) perspective. This analysis is conducted at micro and macro levels. At the micro level, textual analysis is undertaken to pinpoint the lexical choices and translation strategies adopted by Abdel Haleem by drawing on Vinay and Darbelnet’s (1995) method of textual analysis in translation, and Nida’s (1964) translation theory. At the macro-level, the three-dimensional framework of Fairclough (text, discourse and context) has been used to answer the research questions from a CDA perspective. The textual analysis found Abdel Haleem’s application of grammatical–syntactical structures most conventional to the function of the target text, simple language, explanatory footnotes and informative language, reveal his intention to eliminate misconceptions and educate Western readers. However, the contextual analysis clarified Abdel Haleem’s motivations to produce this translation were based on his view that an Arab Muslims is more capable and responsible of spreading the teachings of Islam, because of his socio-cultural background. The analysis also showed socio-cultural and political ideology played a significant role in the way he translated the verses concerning war. For instance, Abdel Haleem employed the free translation strategies of modulation, adaptation and transposition in the translation of these verses because of his vast understanding of the Qur’anic language as an Arab who gained his higher degrees in Egypt. Then, by living in the West with great interaction with mainstream society, he was able to draw an intersection between the traditional and modern interpretations of the message of the Qur’an, in a manner that suited the needs of Muslims in a contemporary world. Being an academic and scholar in his field, he was aware of the significance of having a translation of the Qur’an that is easily understood by the majority in the Western society to serve as an effective tool to enhance interfaith understanding.

Abstract:
Mathematics 436 is the advanced mathematics course offered to students in secondary IV in the province of Quebec. Although the course is designed to challenge students in the advanced stream, it has produced a high number of failures. This study examines the relationship between mathematics anxiety and achievement in Mathematics 436. Fifty-six students from an English high school on the island of Montreal took part in the study. The Mathematics Anxiety Rating Scale for Adolescents was used to measure the level of mathematics anxiety experienced by the students. In addition, grades from the previous year in mathematics were obtained, as well as grades from the present year, and the final examination. The results of the study suggest that students enrolled in Mathematics 436 experience a high level of mathematics anxiety. As well, higher levels of mathematics anxiety experienced by the students are associated with poor performance in mathematics.

Lehmann, Jane Nedine. "Reading mathematics: Mathematics teachers' beliefs and practices." Diss., The University of Arizona, 1993. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/186198.

Full text
Abstract:
This study explores the relationship between university mathematics teachers' beliefs about the nature of reading mathematics and their practices regarding reading mathematics. It is a response to the calls for reform in mathematics education, particularly to the assertion made by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics in 1989 that not all students can read mathematical exposition effectively and that all students need instruction in how to read mathematics textbooks. It presupposes a collaboration between reading and mathematics teachers to help students learn to read mathematics. The objectives were (1) to examine mathematics teachers' beliefs and practices regarding reading, mathematics, and thereby, reading mathematics; (2) to determine whether the theoretical perspectives implicit in those beliefs and practices could be characterized vis-a-vis the theoretical orientations that inform Siegel, Borasi, and Smith's (1989) synthesis of mathematics and reading; and (3) to determine the relationship, if any, that exists between mathematics teachers' beliefs about reading mathematics and their practices regarding reading mathematics. The synthesis presents dichotomous views of both mathematics and reading: Mathematics is characterized as either a body of facts and techniques or a way of knowing; reading, as either a set of skills for extracting information from text, or a mode of learning. The latter view, in each case, can be characterized as constructivist. The researcher was a participant observer in a university sumner program. The primary participants were fourteen mathematics instructors. Interviews were conducted using a heuristic elicitation technique (Black & Metzger, 1969). Field notes were taken during observations of classroom activities and other non-academic summer program activities. The data were coded using a constant comparative method (Glaser & Strauss, 1967) comparative method. Twelve instructors held conceptions of reading that were consistent with their conceptions of mathematics. Of those twelve, two held conceptions that could be characterized as constructivist; ten held conceptions that were not constructivist. Two instructors held conceptions of reading that were not consistent with their conceptions of mathematics. Of those two, one held a constructivist conception of reading but not of mathematics; one held a constructivist conception of mathematics but not of reading. Teachers' practices reflected their theoretical orientations. The study has implications for teacher education: If teachers' beliefs are related to their practices, then teacher education programs should (1) acknowledge the teachers' existing beliefs and (2) address the theoretical orientations implicit in various aspects of pedagogy.

Bibliography: leaves 149-155.
This study deals with a systematic description of student production of mathematics texts and focused on written texts that appeared to be legitimate yet could not be upheld by a principled verbal description. A search of the literature on the analysis of students texts revealed that semiotic analysis, was not only scarce, but ideally suited to examining the social organisation of school mathematics practice. This study examines how student texts produced in response to typical school mathematics problems can, via a systematic analysis of texts, index the construction of mathematics knowledge. It outlines Dowlings' model of Social Activity Theory (1998) to produce a textual analysis which focuses on textual strategies to distribute message. These strategies and the message underpin the analysis. Practices that establish the message distributed indexes mathematics knowledge and curriculum practices. The notion of a mathematising gaze informing school practice was explored and was related to the construction of existing and pre-existing mathematics knowledge.
