Abstract:
The paper presents a short history of archaeometry investigations in Serbia, from the first published work in 1932 until today. It then describes the most important laboratories and institutions that perform archaeometry investigations in Serbia today, their teams, equipment, projects, and cooperation: Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments of Serbia, Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences, Faculty of Physical Chemistry, National Museum of Serbia, Institute of Archaeology, the Heritage Lab, Gallery of Matica Srpska Novi Sad, and City Museum of Subotica. The paper describes plans for the future and proposes forming of Serbian Society for Archaeometry with several goals: to further interconnect research disciplines; to facilitate better use and purchase of equipment, to establish a dedicated laboratory for archaeometry; to introduce archaeometry study programs at different levels of teaching; to introduce archaeometry into scientific plans of Serbia; to start a domestic archaeometry journal, and to promote the awareness of the potentials and benefits of archaeometry to institutions dealing with cultural heritage and to the general public.

Abstract:
In this paper, I will deal with transdisciplinary artistic and media practices on the example of a project “Migrations in Art – the Art of Migrations” that was realized by the Gallery of Matica Srpska in Novi Sad, Serbia. This project is a good example of interdisciplinary connection on the topic of migration, a topic that I also deal with in my Ph.D. dissertation. I would especially like to refer to the new theoretical and sociological readings in this example and the way in which certain practices have been applied and linked in this project. I will also show why this approach is very important for understanding the way the issue of migrants and migration are presented in the media and in artistic practice, which significantly implies the presentation of this very important 21st-century issue. I would try to shift the focus toward migrant corridors and new tendencies in art projects that provide “flashbacks” to the past and search for connective tissue with the present. Abstract:
The paper presents the results of the multi-analytical study of the painting on a panel from the icon collection of the Gallery of Matica srpska museum in Novi Sad, Serbia. It is part of the research aiming to set the methodology for the museum’s database on artistic materials and techniques present in the collection. Computer tomography (CT) scanning was used to understand the structure of the wooden panel support. Ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IC) imaging, as well as visible (VIS) macro photography, were used to study the paint layer, both the original part and restoration treatments, as well as the coat of varnish. Energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) and Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy revealed the pigments, binders, and metal leaf, defining the artistic technique. Optical microscopy (OM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) were used to disclose the stratigraphy and composition of layers in the artwork. The multi-analytical approach confirmed that protein-based binder, gilding, silver leaf, and traditional pigments were used. The data gathered from this research are important for studying the artistic materials and techniques in icon production and defining the methodology setting for the museum collection’s databases as the reference material.

Abstract:
This article examines the reaction of Dragisa Stojadinovic to the feuilleton ?Serbian themes? done by the writer Miroslav Krleza. Krleza?s feuilleton was being published in newspaper Politika during April, May and June of 1963. It consisted of fragments from his earlier writings organized in thematic units and concerning different topics from Serbian history. Dragisa Stojadinovic, former soldier, chief of Cinematographic section of Serbian army on Salonica front during the First World War and politician in interwar Yugoslavia, responded to Krleza?s feuilleton by writting an Open letter to the Yugoslav Academy of Sciences and Arts (Zagreb), the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (Belgrade) and the Matica Srpska (Novi Sad). Stojadinovic?s Open letter was sent on June 28th, 1963. It focused on scrutinizing Krleza?s article Pasic about the Salonika trial published in Politika on June 9th. Both informations stated by Krleza and criticism put forward by Stojadinovic are analyzed in the light of contemporary historiographical knowledge. Different interpretations presented by Krleza and Stojadinovic have their roots in opposed views on causes and results of Salonika trial. Stojadinovic defended the legitimacy of trial started by his father-in-law Ljuba Jovanovic Patak, he was involved in its organisation and later accused of witness tampering. Krleza saw trial in the light of ?counter-revolutionary? Yugoslav unification in 1918 and as an act of ?political and judicial murder?. Abstract:
Research of traditional culture, with a special emphasis on ceremonial nutrition, on the territory of Serbian and Romanian Banat, have been carried out for many years within two projects – „Exploring the history and culture of Serbs in Romania“, organized by the Scientific Centre at the Union of Serbs in Romania (Timisoara, Romania) and „The culture of nutrition in Vojvodina through ceremonial practice. Linguistic and ethnological aspect“ and „The culture of nutrition in Vojvodina. Linguistic and ethnological aspect“, owned by Matica srpska (Novi Sad, Serbia). As a participant in the first mentioned project I want to extract one of the segments from the rich notes from the field relating to the ceremonial nutrition in the fast and present the similarities observed in traditional forms, but also notable changes in Serbs on both sides of the state border. The work will show past and present methods and motives of fasting as well as the process of preparing ceremonial fast food. One of the goals set out in the work is to illuminate socio-politicaleconomic circumstances for maintaining / not maintaining fasting, i.e., to point out changes made over time and therefore a new picture of traditional culture. Through the presentation of shorter segments of transcripts and comments from the author of the text, it will show not only the richness of the timber, but also the identity elements that connect the Serbian people separated by the state border.
