Full textOur work contributes to the theory of non-parametric minimax tests for high dimensional covariance matrices. More precisely, we observe $n$ independent, identically distributed vectors of dimension $p$, $X_1,ldots, X_n$ having Gaussian distribution $mathcal{N}_p(0,Sigma)$, where $Sigma$ is the unknown covariance matrix. We test the null hypothesis $H_0 : Sigma =I$, where $I$ is the identity matrix. The alternative hypothesis is given by an ellipsoid from which a ball of radius $varphi$ centered in $I$ is removed. Asymptotically, $n$ and $p$ tend to infinity. The minimax test theory, other approaches considered for testing covariance matrices and a summary of our results are given in the introduction. The second chapter is devoted to the case of Toeplitz covariance matrices $Sigma$. The connection with the spectral density model is discussed. We consider two types of ellipsoids, describe by polynomial weights and exponential weights, respectively. We find the minimax separation rate in both cases. We establish the sharp asymptotic equivalents of the minimax type II error probability and the minimax total error probability. The asymptotically minimax test procedure is a U-statistic of order 2 weighted by an optimal way.The third chapter considers alternative hypothesis containing covariance matrices not necessarily Toeplitz, that belong to an ellipsoid of parameter $alpha$. We obtain the minimax separation rate and give sharp asymptotic equivalents of the minimax type II error probability and the minimax total error probability. We propose an adaptive test procedure free of $alpha$, for $alpha$ belonging to a compact of $(1/2, + infty)$.We implement the tests procedures given in the previous two chapters. The results show their good behavior for large values of $p$ and that, in particular, they gain significantly over existing methods for large $p$ and small $n$.The fourth chapter is dedicated to adaptive tests in the model of covariance matrices where the observations are incomplete. That is, each value of the observed vector is missing with probability $1-a$, $a in (0,1)$ and $a$ may tend to 0. We treat this problem as an inverse problem. We establish the minimax separation rates and introduce new adaptive test procedures. Here, the tests statistics are weighted by constant weights. We consider ellipsoids of Sobolev type, for both cases : Toeplitz and non Toeplitz matrices

Full textThis thesis aims to design new fast algorithms for numerical computation via the Toeplitz matrices. First, we introduced a fast algorithm to compute the inverse of a triangular Toeplitz matrix with real and/or complex numbers based on polynomial interpolation techniques. This algorithm requires only two FFT (2n) is clearly effective compared to predecessors. A numerical accuracy and error analysis is also considered. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of our method. In addition, we introduced a fast algorithm for solving a linear banded Toeplitz system. This new approach is based on extending the given matrix with several rows on the top and several columns on the right and to assign zeros and some nonzero constants in each of these rows and columns in such a way that the augmented matrix has a lower triangular Toeplitz structure. Stability of the algorithm is discussed and its performance is showed by numerical experiments. This is essential to connect our algorithms to applications such as image restoration applications, a key area in applied mathematics

Cette fonction spline peut etre interpretee comme une fonction spline cardinale tronquee avec une correction convenable. La technique utilisee pour les fonctions splines polynomiales est applicable dans le cas des fonctions splines sous tension. Full textDielectric materials are frequently used in satellite structures as a thermal blanket. Subjected to an electron irradiation - space environment - they can cause in-orbit satellite anomalies. One of these aspects is the charge accumulation due to the flux of space charged particles, and particularly to electrons. This accumulation increases the local electric field in the material bulk and can lead to an Electrostatic Surface Discharge - ESD. This phenomenon could cause serious damage to the satellite structure or performance. In order to have a better control on the discharge it is necessary to clarify; the nature, position and quantity of stored charges with time and to understand the dynamics of the charge transport in solid dielectrics. The Pulsed-Electro Acoustic - PEA method allows us to obtain these features, like the spatial distribution of space charges. One of the weaknesses of this current technique is spatial resolution, about 10 µm. Dielectric materials used in satellite structures have a thickness of 50 and 75 µm. This work aims at improving the spatial resolution for the PEA method. Whatever measurement principle considered, the best spatial resolution achievable is 10µm. This is a drawback when considering rather thin insulating layers (order of tens of microns), as the case in some capacitors or films on outer parts of satellites. Also, a better resolution (1µm) is expected to provide a better description of charge generation in insulation at metal dielectric interfaces or under low energy electron beams

ABSTRACT: The current dissertation had as origin the classical problem inherent to the possible solution of linear equation’s systems, namely while written in the correspondent matrice’s formulation. The resolution of infinite systems of linear equations like Ax=y, where A is an infinite matrix, involves for instance delicate questions of convergence and stability, depending on the kind of matrix associated to A . This is the case of the finite section’s method, which is used to find the inherent properties of the original infinite system regarding the sequences of finite systems. In the current essay such questions are especially formulated for Toeplitz and Hankel matrices. In a more general way, these matrices are also considered in this essay while linear operators acting between some of Banach spaces. Under this Operator Theory approach, special attention is given to the Toeplitz operators which use symbols in the Wiener algebra. Factorization theories are described for several classes of symbols which lead to the operators factorizations – in its majority applied to Toeplitz like operators. Additionally, spectral and Fredholm properties are also described for the Toeplitz operators or matrices.

Full textLarge covariance matrices play a fundamental role in the multivariate analysis and high-dimensional statistics. Since the pioneer’s works of Marcenko and Pastur (1967), the asymptotic behavior of the spectral measure of such matrices associated with N independent copies of n observations of a sequence of iid random variables is known: almost surely, it converges in distribution to a deterministic law when N and n tend to infinity at the same rate. More recently, Merlevède and Peligrad (2016) have proved that in the case of large covariance matrices associated with independent copies of observations of a strictly stationary centered process which is square integrable and satisfies some weak regularity assumptions, almost surely, the empirical spectral distribution converges weakly to a nonrandom distribution depending only on the spectral density of the underlying process. In particular, if the spectral density is continuous and bounded (which is the case for linear processes with absolutely summable coefficients), the limiting spectral distribution has a compact support. However, if the underlying stationary process exhibits long memory, the support of the limiting distribution is not compact anymore and studying the limiting behavior of the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the associated large covariance matrices can give more information on the underlying process. This thesis is in this direction and aims at studying the asymptotics and the fluctuations of the largest eigenvalues of large covariance matrices associated with stationary processes exhibiting long memory. In the case where the underlying stationary process is Gaussian, the study can be simplified by a linear model whose underlying population covariance matrix is a Hermitian Toeplitz matrix. In the case of stationary Gaussian processes exhibiting long memory, we then show that the fluctuations of the largest eigenvalues suitably renormalized are Gaussian. This limiting behavior shows a difference compared to the one when large covariance matrices associated with short memory processes are considered. Indeed in this last case, the fluctuations of the largest eigenvalues suitably renormalized follow asymptotically the Tracy-Widom law. To prove our results on Gaussian fluctuations, additionally to usual techniques developed in random matrices analysis, a deep study of the eigenvalues and eigenvectors behavior of the underlying Toeplitz matrix is necessary. In particular, we show that in the case of long memory, the largest eigenvalues of the Toeplitz matrix converge to infinity and satisfy a property of “multiple spectral gaps”. Moreover, we prove a delocalization property of their associated eigenvectors. In this thesis, we are also interested in the universality of our results in the case of the simplified model and also in the case of large covariance matrices when the Toeplitz matrices are replaced by bloc diagonal matrices

Full textThe Toeplitz lattice is a Hamiltonian system whose Poisson structure is known. In this thesis, we reveil the origins of this Poisson structure and we derive from it the associated Lax equations for this lattice. We first construct a Poisson subvariety Hn of GLn(C), which we view as a real or complex Poisson-Lie group whose Poisson structure comes from a quadratic R-bracket on gln(C) for a fixed R-matrix. The existence of Hamiltonians, associated to the Toeplitz lattice for the Poisson structure on Hn, combined with the properties of the quadratic R-bracket allow us to give explicit formulas for the Lax equation. Then, we derive from it the integrability in the sense of Liouville of the Toeplitz lattice. When we view the lattice as being defined over R, we can construct a Poisson subvariety Han of Un which is itself a Poisson-Dirac subvariety of GLR n(C). We then construct a Hamiltonian for the Poisson structure induced on Han, corresponding to another system which derives from the Toeplitz lattice : the modified Schur lattice. Thanks to the properties of Poisson-Dirac subvarieties, we give an explicit Lax equation for the new system and derive from it a Lax equation for the Schur lattice. We also deduce the integrability in the sense of Liouville of the modified Schur lattice

Full textIn the two first chapters we are concerned with the prediction of the second order stationnary process. Here the information depends on a part of past. The main aspect of these papers is the use of hilbertian technics based on Tœplitz and Hankel operators. In the following three papers, we deal with an old Szegö's problem on the expansion of the determinant of Tœplitz matrix. We give in the multidimensionnal case a more precise expansion of the trace of the inverse with order d). Moreover the knew cœfficients which appear are strongly related with geometrical invariants of the domain on which the the Tœplitz operators are truncated. In the last two papers knew results about reconstruction of the spectral densities in the multidimentional case are given. The methods are based on extensions of positive defined function and maximum entropy principle. This work is motivated by the problem of the determination of the phases of the electron density function in crystal analysis. Nevertheless, there is still a great amount of work to be done in order to solve this problem

Full textIn this thesis we develop new numerical algorithms for polynomial matrices. We tackle the problem of computing the eigenstructure (rank, null-space, finite and infinite structures) of a polynomial matrix and we apply the obtained results to the matrix polynomial J-spectral factorization problem. We also present some applications of these algorithms in control theory. All the new algorithms presented here are based on the computation of the constant null-spaces of block Toeplitz matrices associated to the analysed polynomial matrix. For computing these null-spaces we apply standard numerical linear algebra methods such as the singular value decomposition or the QR factorization. We also study the application of fast methods like the generalized Schur method for structured matrices. We analyze the presented algorithms in terms of algorithmic complexity and numerical stability, and we present some comparisons with others algorithms existing in the literature
