Abstract:
This article provides the first academic analysis of the popular Pakistani Islamic scholar and Urdu-speaking preacher Maulana Tariq Jamil. Drawing on years of ethnographic study of the Tablighi Jama’at, the revivalist movement to which Jamil belongs, as well as content analysis of dozens of his recorded lectures, the article presents a detailed biography of the Maulana in five stages. These comprise: (a) his upbringing and early life (1953–1972); (b) his conversion to the Tablighi Jama’at and studies at the Raiwind international headquarters (1972–1980); (c) his meteoric rise to fame and ascendancy up the movement’s leadership ranks (1980–1997); (d) his development into a national celebrity (1997–2016); and (e) major causes of controversy and criticism (2014–present). Tracing his narrative register within the historical archetypes of the quṣṣāṣ (storytellers) and wuʿʿāẓ (popular preachers), the paper identifies core tenets of the Maulana’s revivalist discourse, key milestones in his life—such as the high-profile conversion to the Tablighi Jama’at of Pakistani popstar Junaid Jamshed—and subtle changes in his approach over the years. The article deploys the classical sociological framework of structure-agency to explore how Maulana Tariq Jamil’s increasing exercise of agency in preaching Islam has unsettled structural expectations within traditionalist ʿulamāʾ (religious scholars) circles as well as the Tablighi leadership. It situates his emergence within a broader trend of Islamic media-based personalities who embrace contemporary technological tools to reach new audiences and respond to the challenges of postcolonial modernity.

Abstract:
The idea of nonviolent civil disobedience is to act against injustice and unjust laws. This has been Mahatma Gandhi’s motivation, as well as Maulana Abul Kalam Azad’s. For an Islamic religious authority of Maulana Azad’s stature and caliber to embrace nonviolent activism for the sake of social justice, it is a significant change in the course of action in Islam against oppression. The concepts of justice/injustice, oppression, and social justice need to be examined in historical context, beginning with early Islamic history, followed by the period of British colonial rule and the Indian struggle against it as led by Mahatma Gandhi and Maulana Azad. This article analyzes the principles of Maulana Azad in the struggle against injustice, and how that compares to the principles and practices of Islamic militancy and jihadism. The latter are viewed as illegitimate, while Maulana Azad’s Islamic credentials render his acceptance of nonviolent civil disobedience as far more legitimate.

Abstract:
This thesis is an examination of Mulla Hadi Sabzawari's commentary (1797--1878 or 1881) on the Mathnawi of Jalal al-Din Rumi (d. 1273), entitled Sharh&dotbelow;-i Asrar-i Mathnawi. The purpose of this study is to analyze Sabzawari's approach and investigate how this synthesizer of the philosophy of Mulla S&dotbelow;adra and Suhrawardi interprets Rumi's message. Moreover, I will assess the details of his arguments and philosophical interpretations of Rumi's verses. Chapter one is a brief introduction to Rumi's biography and his works as well as a review of the commentary tradition on his Mathnawi. In chapter two a full account of Sabzawari's life, including a partial translation of his autobiography and a complete list of his writings, will be offered. In chapter three, I provide my translation of Sabzawari's Arabic preface to his commentary on Rumi, which is followed by a critical analysis of his comments on the Mathnawi. Finally, chapter four is dedicated to a comparative analysis between Sabzawari's commentary and that of another Iranian commentator, Furuzanfar's (d. 1970) Sharh&dotbelow;-i Mathnawi-i Sharif. It contains a parallel reading and examination of the two commentators' views on the subject of the rational soul, which is manifested in Rumi's language through the allegory of "the Reed" ( nay).

Rassekh, Chohre. "Mystical poetry of Jalaloddin Rumi and Jacopone da Todi : A comparison." Thesis, University of British Columbia, 1987. http://hdl.handle.net/2429/28268.

Full text
Abstract:
"Mystical poetry of Jalaloddin Rumi and Jacopone da Todi: A comparison" attempts to analyze and prove the possibility of a comparison of mystical poetry of the Eastern and Western traditions. The consciousness of the One (which is ineffable) is the goal of the mystical experience. This experience finds its expression in the following ways: 1- By affirming its ineffability through the insufficiency of words (the negative way does not exist in complete separation from the affirmative). 2- By relying on imagery and symbols drawn from the phenomenal world and translating abstract concepts into terms that men can understand. The purpose of this dissertation is to prove that Jacopone da Todi's and Jalallodin Rumi's use of poetic imagery from physical reality is the best expression of their mystical quest. Poetry for Jacopone and Rumi, through metaphorical presence, becomes a vehicle toward Reality. The introduction investigates the historical setting and Rumi's and Jacopone's lives in relation to the cultural environment of the time. The first chapter discusses and defines the concept of mysticism and emphasizes the importance of two fundamental ideas in every type of mysticism: the ideas of Love and Transformation. The second chapter discusses the concept of love as used by Jacopone and Rumi in their poetry. Love is seen as a gift; man in his weakness would never be able to attract it or reject. Love is also seen as frenzy and passion, hence the use of images from even the most intimate sphere of life and from sensual love. The chapter, through close analysis of different texts, will also explore the relation between earthly love and spiritual love. The third chapter demonstrates how the concept of transformation, essential to spiritual growth, is developed in the poetry of Jacopone and Rumi through the use of imagery. The symbols of the Cross for Jacopone and of Fire for Rumi are used as examples of purification and growth through sacrifice: "What is poor brushwood when it falls into the fire? Is not the brushwood transformed into a spark by the fire"? The fourth chapter presents a thesis on the language of mysticism or the "mystical lexicon" found in the two poets analyzed despite the apparent lack of any interdependence between them or dependence by them on a common source.

Abstract:
Afrocentrism has been part of the African American intellectual history for more than forty years. It was born in the m of the Civil Rights Movement, Black nationalisms. It is an idea as well as social practices and trains of thought due to help African Americans to renew ties to Africa In the 1990s, Afrocentrism spread thanks to the emergence of academic Afrocentrisms led by three historians: Molefi Asante, Maulana Karenga and Leonard Jeffries. It then generated concepts and cultural practices in the African American community though today, many ignore their origins. This study proposes a genealogy of the Afrocentric theses which rely 00 authors, sources and ideas borrowed from the histories of Black peoples and later adjusted to the African American social context. Additionally, it presents a sociology of Afrocentrisms in the United States which shows how African-Americans use Afrocentrism, turning it into a popular phenomenon before creating Afrocentric "milieus"

Abstract:

Abstract:
There is evidence that pine plantations in central Chile are habitat for populations of several wildlife species. This implies that during clear-cutting process, many individuals may be forced to relocate, generating overcrowding of some species in the remaining native forest fragments. This could increase the likelihood of disease transmission. A positive association between size of host population and parasite prevalence and abundance of direct transmitted parasites is described. Using white-crested elaenia (Elaenia albiceps) as model, the hypothesis, that the population density of birds in remnants of native forest is positively correlated with the ectoparasitic load, was tested. Moreover, the ectoparasitic fauna of white-crested elaenia, black-chinned siskin (Sporagra barbata), austral thrush (Turdus falcklandii) and thorn-tailed rayadito (Aphrastura spinicauda) was characterized. The study was conducted in seven fragments of native forest remnants rounded by pine plantation in the region of Maule and Bío-Bío, during November and February in 2012-2013 and 2013-2014. At each site habitat was characterized and bird population density was estimated through point counts. Birds were captured using mist nets and banded. Ectoparasites sampling was performed inspecting each bird for five minutes. In the laboratory, samples were processed and individuals were classified to the lowest possible taxonomical level. Then, each morphotype was quantified and prevalence, mean abundance and mean intensity was calculated. To test the hypothesis, Pearson correlations were performed between mites and lice load variables; and the population density of white-crested elaenia. Using a generalized linear model (GLM), variables which could predict the abundance of mites and lice, were evaluated. A total of 134 individuals of white-crested elaenia, 44 black-chinned siskin, 39 austral thrush and 57 thorn-tailed rayadito, were captured. The white-crested elaenia presented Anisophyllodes elaeniae, Trouessartia elaeniae, Proctophyllodes musicus, tritonymphs of Analges sp., Calcealges sp., and possibly Berladectes neotropicus. Only one species of lice was recorded: Tyranniphilopterus delicatulus. Mites of flack-chinned siskin were identified as Strelkoviacarus critesi, Proctophyllodes spini, and lice as Philopterus roehreri and Tyranniphilopterus delicatulus. Thrushes presented two species of mites: Proctophyllodes musicus and Tyrannidectes falcklandicus and two species of lice; Brueelia magellanica and Philopterus sp. Two morphotypes of mites could not be identified. The thorn-tailed rayaditos showed no lice infestation. Four genera of feather mites were identified: Analges sp., Trouessartia sp., Metapterodectes sp., Platyacarus sp. The main conclusion of this work is that, althougha positive association between population density and ectoparasitic load variables was expected, the inverse relationship was found with a high level of statistical significance. However, the morphological and environmental covariates that were used in model do not provide further explanation to this trend. Host-parasite relationships are complex with many factors that influence it. Therefore, it is necessary to further study different specific factors of the host and parasite affecting this relationship, as well as environmental variables.

Abstract:
AbstractImproving teaching quality to enhance learning has become critical for academics, practitioners, and policymakers. However, very few studies compared the same lessons with various classroom observation instruments to examine whether classroom characteristics in different instruments are similar. This project aimed to conduct a secondary lesson observation analysis on 423 lesson videos selected from 14,000+ lesson videos previously collected in the Measures of Effective Teaching (MET) project. The analysis provided new data on the same lessons previously studied by the MET researchers but observed with two instruments. One internationally validated instrument was used in the international project by Maulana et al. (Sch Eff Sch Improv, 1–32, 2021) to explore the generic teaching characteristics in different countries, while the other instrument was developed purposively to characterise the differences between effective and inspiring teaching. The results allowed data comparisons across different projects that are not readily comparable because they used various classroom observation instruments. The results informed the relationships between effective and inspiring teaching.

Abstract:
Background: Numerous studies have shown the adverse effects of maternal depression, which impacts both mother and child as well as can lower the maternal-fetal attachment. However, during pregnancy, a pregnant woman tends to practice healthier behavior to improve her health and the baby. A gap remains in our understanding of the effect of health behavior as the variable which influences the relationship between depression and maternal-fetal attachment. This study aimed to investigate the mediating effect of healthy behavior on the relationship between maternal depression and maternal-fetal attachment. Subjects and Method: A cross sectional study was conducted at Community Health Centers in Surakarta, from July to September 2019. A sample of 224 pregnant women was selected for this study. The dependent variable was a healthy lifestyle. The independent variable was depression and maternal-fetal attachment. Depression was measured by Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale (EPDS). The data were analyzed by Hayes’ process mediation analysis. Results: Health-promoting lifestyle totally mediated the relationship between maternal depression and maternal-fetal attachment (b= -0.25; SE= 0.10; 95% CI= -0.47 to 0.05). Conclusion: Health-promoting lifestyle and behavior mediates the relationship between maternal depression and maternal-fetal attachment. Keywords: Nursing, midwife, maternal-fetal attachment, prenatal depression, health-promoting lifestyle Correspondence: Rufidah Maulina. National Taipei University of Nursing and Health Sciences.
