Information is provided on the methodological recommendations developed and adopted by Ukravtodor for determining the carrying capacity of road bridges. The main provisions of these recommendations are briefly outlined. For practical application, the carrying capacity of the bridge is defined as: – the maximum total mass of the vehicle moving in the column is permissible; – the maximum total mass of a heavy vehicle moving in a single order is permissible; – permissible maximum load on the axle of the vehicle. The initial data for determining the actual carrying capacity of the bridge are the r

The maximum permissible load of underground power cables (known in U.S. engineering as “ampacity”) is a function of many parameters, in particular, the thermal resistivity of the native soil. If this resistivity is relatively high, thermal/stabilized backfill is applied, i.e., another material is placed around the cables, providing favourable conditions for heat transfer to the environment. It has a positive impact on the reliability of the power supply and favours the operational durability of the cables. In design practice, however, there is a difficult task—correct determination of the ampa

In this paper the normal regimes of the Nigerian 330-132 kV power grid at 2003-2005 year levels were analyzed. The load flow studies were also carried out at perspective load growth forecast up to 10 years based on exponential trend using a program (Newton’s method). An analysis of results shows that with existing available generation and maximum load estimate by the utility there is a deficit which will persist if generation, commensurate with load growth, is not immediately reinforced. The network lacks adequate reactive power sources to maintain permissible bus voltages and the power transf
