Abstract:
Coefficients of dynamic viscosity for AL7050-T7451 at room temperature is extracted by creep and stress relaxation simulations in Ansys. An analogy has been established for both creep and stress relaxation, with simple Maxwell Model. The stress relaxation curve thus obtained is then used to generate the Prony series coefficients which are then used to run some dynamic analysis in Ansys to see the effect of loading at different frequencies on the value of η (i.e dynamic viscosity). This will be verified with the simple analytical dynamic formulation based on the Maxwell Model. A good agreement has been found for both quasi-static and dynamic tests with Maxwell model.

Abstract:
Transformers have attracted great interest since they have been used due to their robustness and application in power systems. Therefore, the nominal values of transformers grow even more in larger power systems due to the constantly increasing power demand. Many types of research are carried out to increase the performance characteristics of transformers and their compatibility with power systems. There are different methods and analysis tools for these studies. One of them is ANSYS@Maxwell, which performs analysis based on the Finite Element Method (FEM). With this program, the design, modeling, analysis, and performance evaluation of the transformer in a high-performance simulation environment can be achieved through effective strategic modeling. In this study, the design and modeling of a three-phase core-type transformer with coils and terminals are explained in detail in ANSYS @ Maxwell simulation platform. Besides, the transformer models examined were adapted using ANSYS@MAXWELL software based on the finite element method. Analyzes are performed to estimate the core-losses, leak-losses, DC-losses, and winding-eddy current losses-of transformers with this program. A large number of meshes were used in FEM analysis of 2D and 3D models to examine the losses in detail.

Abstract:
Abstract This paper presents the performance assessments for the traction motor of an electric racing kart, considering the different core materials. Firstly, the appropriate traction motor type is determined as a brushless direct current motor (BLDC) due to the superior features such as torque, efficiency, cooling performance and reliability. Thereafter the BLDC traction motor is optimized in Ansys RMXprt by using Taguchi’s design of experiment (DoE) method in order to meet the vehicle requirements. The BH curves are created for steel sheet (M19_24G), amorphous (2605SA1) and soft magnetic composite (SMC) (Somaloy 1000 3P) in Ansys Maxwell Environment, which are widely used as core materials in the literature. Then, the motor models are analyzed by the finite element method in Ansys Maxwell, and the core materials that can meet the minimum requirements in terms of magnetic flux density and saturation are verified. Finally, the dynamic vehicle model is set up in Ansys Simplorer in order to evaluate the motor performances. For that purpose, a reference speed profile is created by using the measured speed from the Gothenburg carting ring, and the battery consumption characteristic and reference speed tracking performance of the motor models with different cores are evaluated in the driving cycle.

This paper presents the results of modeling of the potential distribution in DC corrosion tests with the application of the ANSYS Maxwell software in two models: in the form of a single long bar covered with concrete and in the shape of a fragment of the bar cut out together with the core. Material parameters used for input in the ANSYS Maxwell software were adopted from tests performed in aqueous solutions. The results of the simulation led to the conclusion that the corrosion tests on the cores cut out from the structure are universal so that regardless of the concrete conductivity and the advancement of steel corrosion processes they produce correct values of the corrosion rate. Meanwhile, the measurements taken within the structure will always require some measures to limit the range of polarization or allow its estimation.

Abstract:
The article analyses generators generating efficient electricity at low speed water and wind flows. High rotating speed generators are used in wind farms and micro-hydropower. Reduction gears are used to provide the generators with the required number of rotations. The use of reduction gears in the power system leads to a decrease in the efficiency of the system and additional capital costs. The study analyzed multipolar synchronous generators. Both generators used a permanent magnet to generate electromotive force, and the generators are distinguished by the radial and axial placement of the permanent magnets. In order to analyze the generators, virtual models were created and analyzed in the Ansys Maxwell program. The Ansys Maxwell program is used to analyze electric machines in the electromagnetic field. The use of these programs in determining the optimal size of new devices is of great importance in saving time and improving cost-effectiveness.

Abstract:
Finding cost efficient earthing system design with acceptable level of safety might be quite tedious work. Thus, many earthing system engineers try to find the most suitable design either by employing only their best experience or taking advantage of some more complex optimisation programs. Although both approaches might work well under certain circumstances, they might fail either due to counter-intuitiveness of the specific situation or by misunderstanding of the applied optimisation method, its limitations etc. Thus, in this paper, the earthing system design optimisation problem was addressed by analysing optimisation simulation results together with conducted sensitivity analysis. In the paper, a simple double ring earthing system was optimised while using five different optimisation methods. The earthing system was placed in different horizontally stratified soil models and the earthing system was optimised by minimising touch voltages instead of commonly minimised earth potential rise. The earthing system was modelled by Ansys Maxwell software. Apart from using Ansys Maxwell built-in optimisers, the possible solution space has also been mapped by performing sensitivity analysis with changing the earthing system design dimensions and the results of optimisation were compared and validated. It was found out that the Sequential Non-Linear Programming Optimisation technique was quite superior to the other techniques. Additionally, in most cases, the Ansys Maxwell optimiser was able to found optimal solution; however, in some cases, based on the initial conditions, it might get stuck in local minima or the results might be influenced by the solution noise. Additionally, some quite non intuitive dependencies of earthing system electrodes positions had been found when different spatial dimensions constraints are used.

Abstract:
Wireless charging has become an emerging challenge to reduce the cost of a conventional plug-in charging system in electric vehicles especially for supercapacitors that are utilized for quick charging and low-energy demands. In this article, the design of an efficient wireless power transfer system has been presented using resonant inductive coupling technique for supercapacitor-based electric vehicle. Mathematical analysis, simulation, and experimental implementation of the proposed charging system have been carried out. Simulations of various parts of the systems are carried out in two different software, ANSYS MAXWELL and MATLAB. ANSYS MAXWELL has been used to calculate the various parameters for the transmitter and receiver coils such as self-inductance ( L), mutual inductance ( M), coupling coefficient ( K), and magnetic flux magnitude ( B). MATLAB has been utilized to calculate output power and efficiency of the proposed system using the mathematical relationships of these parameters. The experimental setup is made with supercapacitor banks, electric vehicle, wattmeters, controller, and frequency generator to verify the simulation results. The results show that the proposed technique has better power transfer efficiency of more than 75% and higher power transfer density using a smaller coil size with a bigger gap of 4–24 cm.

Study and analysis the effect of variable applied voltage on SCIM performances based on FEA is presented. Three phase squirrel cage induction motor SCIM has been investigated and numerically simulated using finite element method (FEM) with the aid of ANSYS software (RMxprt and Maxwell 2D/3D). This research presents study and analysis of the effects of the voltage variation on performance and efficiency of the three-phase induction motor of the squirrel cage type. The Finite Elements Analysis Method FEA is used as one of the best methods for analysis and simulation of electrical motors in addition to the possibility of dealing with nonlinear equations, Since the induction motor is a complex electromagnetic reaction, the researchers used the ANSYS program to represent and analyze the performance of the motor under variable supply voltage. The case studied in this research is three phases, 380V, 50Hz, 2.2kW, induction motor that widely use in industrial application. The aim of this research is to study the effect of voltage variation on efficiency, current value, power factor and torque of SCIM. The RMxprt software has been used for modeling and simulating the induction motor and calculating the values of phases currents, input and output power in additional of overall efficiency at steady state condition. The next stage of the research is creating Maxwell 2-D design from the base model of RMxprt software, Maxwell 2-D model has the ability to computing the distribution of magnetic field and explaining the performance under steady-state operation. The obtained results show significant reduction of motor performance due to the effect of variation of apply voltage.

Linear motor offers several features in many applications that require linear motion. Nevertheless, the presence of cogging force can deteriorate the thrust of a permanent magnet linear motor. Using several methodologies, a design of synchronous single sided linear iron-core motor was proposed. According to exact formulas with surface-mounted magnets and concentrated winding specification, which are relying on geometrical parameters. Two-dimensional performance analysis of the designed model and its multi-objective optimization were accomplished as a method to reduce the motor cogging force using MAXWELL ANSYS. The optimum model design results showed that the maximum force ripple was approximatrly reduced by 81.24%compared to the original model with a smaller ripple coefficient of 0.22. Likewise, the model was redesigned taking into consideration two cases; laminated core and solid core. It was found that the error between the analytical and numerical results of the output force did not exceed 0.0967%.

Abstract:
The problem of developing optimal-design electromagnetic valves is relevant for many industries. The development of technology is characterized by increased power and pressures used for actuator mechanisms, as well as by reducing the dimensions and mass of automatic units. The goal of this article is to develop an advanced electromagnetic valve that would ensure optimal combination of high performance, reliability, technological effectiveness and minimal cost. On the basis of standard dependences for electromagnetic phenomena a mathematic model of a SU.1 valve was developed. It was calculated in several special-purpose software packages: NISA, FEMM, ANSYS Maxwell. Parametric analysis was implemented in ANSYS Maxwell for variable working gap settings and values of current force in the solenoid. As a result, the magnetic induction distribution field was obtained. The results of modeling the operation of the electromagnetic valve and the magnetic induction distribution field are presented for variable working gap settings and different values of current force in the solenoid. The model of an advanced electromagnetic valve for a liquid rocket engine was developed on the basis of the dependences obtained. The duration of single engine firing obtained is 40 msec. The results obtained make it possible to create a valve with hold-open time of 800msec, which is considered sufficient for application in electromagnetic direct current valves.

Abstract:
The interests in multiphase (more than three) system are escalating recently especially in the motor drive applications. Thus, this paper introduces the graphical phasor diagram method in designing the multiphase transformer connection. The proposed method eases the design process of the static multiphase transformer that produces multiphase output from the standard three phase input. The transformer connection was simulated in ANSYS Maxwell and the multiphase waveform with appropriate phase angle was obtained. The design of five-phase transformer using graphical phasor and simulation results from the finite elements software are presented in this paper.

There has been extensive work to show how electric fields can influence combustion. However, many different set ups are used. This work shows how different set ups produce different field strengths and that the field is not always uniformly distributed. The field strength is modelled using Ansys Maxwell. The type of material used is discussed and the set up of apparatus. It is recommended to use parallel plates for experimentation. Parallel plates produce the most uniform field this allow's it's influence to be directly investigated and related to the field strength.

ABSTRACT This paper describes a numerical simulation with 3D finite elements of a tunnel. The viscoplastic law of Perzyna represents the rockmass behavior. The concrete, shotcrete or precast, is modeled as a viscoelastic material through the Maxwell and Kelvin chain models. Finite element simulations are performed by incorporating subroutines for viscoelastic concrete models in the ANSYS code. The method to simulate tunnel excavations is by activating and deactivating elements in sequential steps. In the first part of the paper two validations are performed. The analytical solution and the deformation achieved on the stabilization in the ANSYS code are compared with an unlined tunnel. A lined tunnel, with an elastic and viscoplastic rockmass combined with an elastic lining, is compared with the results of the GEOMEC91 code. In the second part, it is compared the same tunnel with two different concrete lining for two chain models. Finally, it is modeled the Kielder experimental tunnel, which in situ measured data is available.

Abstract:
The vibration energy derived from vehicle movement over a road surface was first converted to rotational energy during vehicle operation by installing blades in the suspension system. The rotational energy was converted to electrical energy using the rotational energy as the input value of the rotary generator. The vibrations from the road’s surface were analyzed using CarSim-Simulink. The blades’ characteristics were analyzed using ANSYS Fluent. The T–ω curve was derived, and the power generation of the rotary generator was verified using the commercial electromagnetic analysis program, ANSYS MAXWELL. For high power generation, the design was optimized using PIAnO (process integration, automation, and optimization), a PIDO (process integration and design optimization) tool. The amount of power generation was 59.4562 W, which was a 122.47% increase compared to the initial model. The remaining problems were analyzed, and further studies were performed. This paper proposes the applicability and development direction of suspension with energy harvesting by installing blades on suspension.

Abstract:
Purpose – This study aims to ameliorate the strength and uniformity of the magnetic field in the air-gap of quartz flexible accelerometers. Quartz flexible accelerometers (QFAs), a type of magneto-electric inertial sensors, have wide applications in inertial navigation systems, and their precision, linearity and stability performance are largely determined by the magnetic field in operation air-gap. To enhance the strength and uniformity of the magnetic field in the air-gap, a magnetic hat structure has been proposed to replace the traditional magnetic pole piece which tends to produce stratiform magnetic field distribution. Design/methodology/approach – Three-dimensional analysis in ANSYS workbench helps to exhibit magnetic field distribution for the structures with a pole piece and a magnetic hat, and under the hypothesis of cylindrical symmetry, two-dimensional finite element optimization by ANSYS APDL gives an optimal set of dimensions of the magnetic hat. Findings – Three structures of the QFA with a pole piece, a non-optimized magnetic hat and an optimized magnetic hat are compared by the simulation in ANSYS Maxwell and experiments measuring the electromagnetic rebalance force. The results show that the optimized hat can supply stronger and more uniform magnetic field, which is reflected by larger and more linear rebalance force. Originality/value – To the authors ' knowledge, the magnetic hat and its dimension optimization have rarely been reported, and they can find significant applications in designing QFAs or other similar magnetic sensors.

Abstract:
The widely distributed interconnects in printed circuit boards (PCBs) easily couple with high voltage under the action of electromagnetic pulses, which leads to insulation failure. In this study, the dielectric breakdown characteristics of four typical PCBs are studied under continuous square impulse voltage conditions. First, the electric field distribution in the four electrode models is simulated with the ANSYS software (ANSYS Maxwell 17.0). Electric field simulation results show the weak area of electric field distribution. On this basis, the possible breakdown patterns of PCB are analyzed. Second, the influence of factors, such as temperature, pulse duty ratio, interconnect insulation distance, and air pressure, on PCB breakdown voltage is studied through a breakdown test on the PCBs. Results show that the discharge between the single-layer electrodes of the PCBs is surface discharge, and the breakdown is that of a “gas–solid composite medium”. Meanwhile, the breakdown of a double-layer PCB is solid breakdown. Finally, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) produced by Tescan (Brno, Czech Republic) is performed to study the carbonization channel after PCB breakdown. SEM results reveal that the PCB carbonization channel is influenced by temperature and pressure in varying degrees.

Abstract The critical dimensions of magnet and its positional parameters in a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) are optimized using Taguchi method. L16 Orthogonal Array (OA) was used in Taguchi method to optimize the magnet width w and thickness t, and magnet position parameters i.e., D1, O1, and Rib. Using the D-optimal design criterion, 52 data points for five factors were selected for optimization of power factor and efficiency using response surface methodology to perform the sensitivity analysis. Regression model for efficiency and power factor are modeled using analysis of variance results. A 1.07 kW capacity PMSM was designed based on the optimized parameters and making use of efficient computational resource, i.e., RMxprt tool of the ANSYS Maxwell software and drive system in ANSYS Simplorer for real time results and performance study. The performance of PMSM in terms of line current, load torque, and efficiency has been verified with the experimental results and the efficiency data available in literature. The results were found to be in a good agreement. Confirmation test results showed that the Taguchi method is very successful in the optimization of permanent magnet synchronous motor dimensions.

In this paper, the major factors that affect the performance of wireless power transfer systems, such as coil inner radius and coil number of turns, are discussed. A comparison of three coil shapes covering the coreless case, the case with ferrite, and the case with ferrite and aluminum is also carried out. Another comparison is proposed by addressing the combination of different coil shapes in the wireless power transfer (WPT)system. The analysis covers the coupling coefficient, the mutual inductance, and the self-inductance. Due to the complexity of calculating these parameters, the finite element analysis (FEA) method is adopted by using the Ansys Maxwell software.
