Abstract:
To estimate the genetic diversity of chickpea germplasm from Iran, a total of 307 landraces from 4 regions including: northern areas (29 from Ardebil, 3 from Qazvin and 5 from Mazanderan provinces), temperate (16 from Kermanshah, 2 from Semnan, 54 from Khorasan and 20 from Kerman provinces), semi-arid (28 from Ghom and 56 from Isfahan provinces) and cold areas (15 from West Azarbayjan, 52 from Tehran and 27 from East Azarbayjan provinces) were analysed using 16 microsatellite loci. The number of alleles per microsatellite locus ranged from 8 to 29, with an average of 19.31 per locus. A high level of genetic diversity in the northern area (He = 0.76), even with a limited number of available landraces (37) compared with the other three regions (84–94), might confirm the northern Persia as part of the chickpea centre of origin. The neighbour-joining tree showed a low relationship between molecular divergence and the geographical grouping of chickpea. Moreover, cluster analyses based on molecular data showed that the northern area was separated clearly from the other three regions, indicating a physical barrier or geographical and environmental differences among these regions. A wide genetic diversity of Iranian chickpea landraces is a critical component for future selection and use of this germplasm for future breeding of chickpea.

Abstract:
How to survive in this forest? How to keep it alive? Latour poses these questions in relation to the current global ecological crisis; but they are equally apt when applied to the “forest”––or to use Latour’s own metaphor, “biodiversity”––of STS. In his interview, Latour puts forward a particular vision for STS’s survival; a vision of STS as neither critical of nor ancillary to science, but where a tacit STS sensibility becomes integrated into science through education and collaboration. While Latour acknowledges the many differences of attitude and approach within STS, he also glosses over them, foregrounding as the defining feature of all those “infected” with STS the shared commitment to transforming science with the big “S” into something that can be studied empirically. The picture he paints is, unsurprisingly, a constructivist one, in which social and natural scientists, engineers, artists and politicians, “build worlds” together. A reflection by Fadhila Mazanderani follows the interview.

Abstract:
Seed morphology of 12 Iranian endemic and subendemic species of Veronica was studied using scanning electron microscope (SEM). Seven qualitative and quantitative characters were measured using SEM micrographs and stereomicroscopy. The seed shape of most species is ovate and plano-convex. The size of seeds ranges from 1.25 x 0.75 mm in V. khorassanica to 2.5 x 1.75 mm in V. viscosa Boiss. The ornamentation of seed coat is reticulate-verrucate in V. khorassanica, V. czerniakowskiana, V. mazanderanae and V. rubrifolia, reticulate-rugate in V. acrotheca, V. aucheri, V. viscosa and V. intercedens, rugose in V. microcarpa, V. chionantha and V. rechingeri, and reticulate-porate in V. gaubae. The testa cells are polygonal in ten species and irregular in two species. Micromorphological characters of seeds are useful in specific and subspecific delimitations of Iranian Veronica.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to a review of the non-written languages and dialects of the Iranian group. Iranian languages were spoken by numerous tribes and peoples that played an important role in world history. In the modern period, they are spoken by more than 160 million people. The socio-political status of modern Iranian languages is very different. Most of them are non-written. Their affi nity to one another and to developed literary languages manifests itself in different ways. A signifi cant part of the non-written Iranian languages and dialects tend to the Persian language. Among them, the largest are Gilan, Mazanderan, Luri, Bakhtiari, Talysh and Pamir. The majority of non-written Iranian languages are on the verge of extinction. Their scientifi c signifi cance is important, as they retained archaisms that had disappeared in major Iranian languages.

Abstract:

Abstract:
This chapter discusses the life and career of Iranian singer Sima Shokrani. She specializes in Mazanderani repertoire and language, and was profoundly influenced by the work songs of her grandmother. Demonstrating an engagement with political and ideological issues from childhood, Sima challenged linguistic constraints and participated in the revolution of 1979 as a university student of twenty-one. She has shaped her career as a woman singer within the well-known constraints in Iran, as restrictions are placed around women singers by law. Making choices to sing songs that articulate women's agency in romantic and other relationships, she negotiates her multiple identities in private and public singing contexts. Supported by her husband, and despite the migration of her daughters to Germany, Sima chooses to remain in Iran, where she fulfills a role as a senior woman.
