This study tested the hypothesis that a plant compound, 6-methoxybenzoxazoline (6-MBOA), can affect the annual reproductive cycle of wild rabits by acting as an agonist or antagonist of melatonin. Preliminary investigations into seasonal changes in the reproductive endocrinology of wild-caught adult female rabbits kept in outdoor cages revealed an annual cycle of pituitary (release of LH) and ovarian (release of progesterone) responses to exogenous GnRH. Tryptophan is an essential amino acid that is obtained from the diet. Approximately 98 % of ingested tryptophan is metabolized by the enzyme tryptophan 2,3-dioxygenase (TDO). The metabolism of tryptophan by TDO is an important determinant of tryptophan bioavailability to the brain for serotonin (5-HT) biosynthesis, an essential amine in affective disorders such as depression. Studies done on circadian rhythmicity of the enzyme activity have shown that, TDO activity is high during the scoto-phase (dark-phase), which is attributable to the de novo enzyme synthesis that occurs during this phase.

Beauty quarks are produced with a large cross section at a previously unreached center-of-mass energy at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), enabling precision measurements to improve our understanding of heavy flavor physics. This thesis presents the measurement of the inclusive cross section $\sigma(pp\rightarrow b\overline{b} X \rightarrow \mu \mu X^\prime)$.
