Abstract:
The aim of this study was to discover the amount of time spent on and some of the content of the training presently available to therapists, both in colleges and from the wheelchair service. The method was a postal questionnaire, which was sent to all colleges of occupational therapy and physiotherapy and to a geographically selected sample of centres in the wheelchair service. The results indicated that the mean number of hours of training was statistically significantly higher for colleges of occupational therapy compared with colleges of physiotherapy (OT mean=26.19 hours: PT mean=9.66 hours, t=2.52, df=21, p=0.02) and for colleges of occupational therapy compared with the wheelchair service (OT mean=26.19 hours: WS mean=9.41 hours, t=-2.58, df=20, p=0.02). No statistically significant difference was observed between colleges of physiotherapy and the wheelchair service. The results indicated that the situation has improved slightly since the McColl Report in 1986, which recommended changes within the wheelchair service.

Abstract:
Services that provide wheelchairs to permanently disabled people have undergone fundamental changes following the recommendations of the McColl report in 1986. The devolution of centralised wheelchair services to the National Health Service (NHS) health districts in 1991 coincided with the implementation of the government's proposals for NHS reforms and community care initiatives. This paper describes a four-part research study, undertaken to identify and investigate key factors which propose effectiveness in the post-devolution wheelchair service. The sample comprised 125 wheelchair therapists as service providers and a total of 130 service users. The user sample consisted of 84 people issued with NHS manual wheelchairs, 27 indoor powered wheelchair users and 19 special seating users. An integrated methodology was employed, including questionnaires, interviews, participant observation and case studies. The research identified the development of client-centred referral and assessment procedures for wheelchairs and seating, and highlighted the need for increased therapist training. Close links between wheelchair services and local therapists were found, providing greater access to assessment for wheelchair users. An increased demand for wheelchairs outside the NHS range and a rising number of referrals for elderly people were recorded, although the management of finite resources resulted in eligibility criteria designed to control supply and provision variations between districts.

Abstract:
Purpose In line with the precepts of service-dominant logic (SDL), the purpose of this paper is to devise a measurement framework of customer value co-creation practices during the service process. Design/methodology/approach Answering the call of McColl-Kennedy et al. (2012), the present study develops a general conceptual model for the measurement of customer value co-creation behavior, in line with the procedure elaborated by Churchill (1979). In particular, the paper focuses on the first stage of the protocol, corresponding to the specification of the domain of the construct. Findings The study shows that the scale for measuring behavioral processes in customer value co-creation has an implicit hierarchical structure based on eight activities to ensure adequate semantic coverage of the concept: cerebral activities, cooperation, information research and collation, the combination of complementary activities, changes in habits, co-production, co-learning, and connection. Moreover, the work highlights that the analysis of customer value co-creation behavior leads to three diverse steps of value co-creation and various levels of interaction. Originality/value By systematizing the construct of customer value co-creation behavior within a comprehensive framework, the conceptual model attempts to fill a gap evidenced by previous research in order to show that actions performed by users during the value co-creation process strictly conform to SDL assumptions. Moreover, the framework underpinning the practical application of SDL principles could benefit future practitioners and suggest interesting implications for future research.

Abstract:
Let ? be an endomorphism of a ring R. We introduce the notion of weak ?-skew McCoy rings which are a generalization of the ?-skew McCoy rings and the weak McCo rings. Some properties of this generalization are established, and connections of properties of a weak ?-skew McCoy ring R with n ? n upper triangular Tn(R) are investigated. We study relationship between the weak skew McCoy property of a ring R and its polynomial ring, R[x]. Among applications, we show a number of interesting properties of a weak ?-skew McCoy ring R such as weak skew McCoy property in a ring R.

Abstract:
The disagreement between André Gombay and Storrs McCall can be summed up in terms of the distinction between liberty of spontaneity and liberty of indifference. This distinction is actually used by Professor McCall in his paper. Thus, it would seem that both speakers agree that a person acting under duress cannot exercise liberty of spontaneity—he (or she) does not act according to his (or her) wishes. However, Gombay also claims, at least according to McCall, that liberty of indifference is also lacking in cases of duress—persons under duress have no other choice than to obey when threatened. McCall takes an opposite view. He thinks that the only genuine cases of compulsion belong either to various types of physical coercion or to a certain number of pathologies of the mind.

Abstract:
At the turn of the century, “Japan” was being imagined for the American public in a variety of ways. Sidney McCall, wife of Hegelian Ernest Fenollosa and close friend of Romanticist Lafcadio Hearn, sought a way to incorporate “Japan” into Fenollosa's broader Idealist arch while simultaneously preserving the titillation of Hearn's “ghostly tales.” By so doing, McCall attempted to reconcile divided notions of “femininity” in early Japanology (and American discourse at large). She utilized the form of the novel itself to work systematically through the schism between “feminine mystique” and “maternal feminism”; this uncertainty was resolved, for McCall, in her Idealist fictions from “Japan.”

Abstract:
Abstract The text presents some of the unusual features of Alexander McCall Smith’s popular African detective stories, in which cultural elements convey humanity and thus lower tension, the characteristic sign of detective fiction. Culture, in particular the African collectivist culture included in the core of these stories, creates a milieu that enables the writer to avoid murders, which are usually basic conflict-conveying vehicles in this genre. Although McCall Smith’s African books contain the conventional formal elements of detective stories, they also display a very low level of tension together with other peculiarities. This text tries to compare the structure and elements of classic detective stories with those from McCall Smith’s books to disclose their true essence.
