Abstract:
--- This research addresses the problem of lack of robustness, by replacing the covariance matrix obtained with the classical method for the covariance matrix obtained with the robust MCD method (Todorov and Filzmoser, 2009). The robust method MCD: Minimun Covariance Determinant, involves making estimates for the mean vector and covariance matrix from the selection of a subsample obtained from the resampling of the data set under study, whose main characteristic is that it has the covariance matrix with the minimum determinant. Many times, the statistical analysis in the presence of outliers, by standard methods, can be misleading because of the sensitivity of these methods, which is why the objective of this paper is to present the methodology of the MCD estimators in order to achieve the "robustified covariance matrix" which will be used to perform Principal Component Analysis on data sets with the presence of outliers. We illustrate the methodology of the theory and application, for two sets of data, research results in the Botany (Quinteros, 2010 and Gomez, et. Al., 2008), we analyze the behavior of the Principal Components with the MCD method and we compare it to the classic methodology. It is determined that the principal components obtained by the MCD method allows to find better indicators for data sets with outliers. -- Keywords: Minimum Covariance Determinant, MCD, Principal Components, Robust Estimation, Scatter Matrix.

Abstract:
Given that human development is a complex process involving multiple components and determiningfactors, multidimensional indicators are needed. On the basis of the extensive literatureon the subject, we advance two new indicators: the Matrix of Capabilities and Functioning(MCF), and the Algorithm of Human Development (HDA).The MCF is composed of vectors of capabilities and functionings, based on Sen’s idea of RefinedFunctionings. It is based in a matricial framework, both static and dynamic. The main purposeof constructing this index is to study how different sets of capabilities relate to alternativefunctionings, to produce diverse outcomes. The Human Development Algorithm (HAD) is a multidimensional index concerning the setof goods and services needed to complete a life cycle. The HDA is a socio-economic contextindicator. It is composed of the main «satisfactors» or basic goods and services needed: food, health, education, housing, social security, decent employment and retirement programs, thatmight be available to all throughout of life cycle. This indicator shows the material progressreached by each country or region as well the institutional organization, private and public, andthe degree of social cohesion and solidarity.
Gold and silver particles with dimensions less than a nanometer possess unique characteristics and properties that are different from the properties of the bulk. They demonstrate a non–zero HOMO–LUMO gap that can reach up to 3.0 eV. These differences arise from size quantization effects in the metal core due to the small number of atoms. These nanoparticles have attracted great interest for decades both in fundamental and applied research. Small gold clusters protected by various types of ligands are of interest because ligands allow obtaining gold nanoclusters with given sizes, shapes and properties. Three main families of organic ligands are usually used for stabilization of gold nanoclusters: phosphine ligands, thiolate ligands and DNA. Usually, optical properties of these NPs are studied using optical absorption spectroscopy. Unfortunately, sometimes this type of spectrum is poorly resolved and tends to appear very similar for different complexes. In these cases, circular dichroism (CD) and magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) spectroscopy can be applied. However, the interpretation of experimental CD and MCD spectra is a complicated process. In this thesis, theoretically simulated CD and MCD spectra were combined with optical absorption spectra to study optical activity for octa– and nona– and undecanuclear gold clusters protected by mono– and bidentate phosphine ligands. Additionally, optical properties of bare and DNA protected silver NPs were studied. Theoretical CD spectra were examined to learn more about the origin of chirality in chiral organometallic complexes, and to contribute to the understanding of the difference in chiroptical activity of gold clusters stabilized by different phosphine ligands and DNA–stabilized silver clusters. Furthermore, optical properties of the small centered gold clusters Au₈(PPh₃)₈²⁺ and Au₉(PPh₃)₈³⁺ were examined by optical absorption and MCD spectra using TDDFT. Theoretical MCD spectra were also used to identify the plasmonic behavior of silver nanoparticles. These results showed that CD and MCD spectroscopy yield more detailed information about optical properties and electronic structure of the different chemical systems than optical absorption spectroscopy alone. Theoretical simulation of the CD and MCD spectra together with optical absorption spectra can be used to assist in the understanding of empirically measured CD and MCD and provide useful information about optical properties and electronic structure.

Luna, Brenda. "Prenatal Environmental Exposure and Neurodevelopmentally Important Gene Expression in Malformed Brain Tissue from Pediatric Intractable Epilepsy Patients." FIU Digital Commons, 2011. http://digitalcommons.fiu.edu/etd/445.

Abstract:
The primary objective of this proposal was to determine whether mitochondrial oxidative stress and variation in a particular mtDNA lineage contribute to the risk of developing cortical dysplasia and are potential contributing factors in epileptogenesis in children. The occurrence of epilepsy in children is highly associated with malformations of cortical development (MCD). It appears that MCD might arise from developmental errors due to environmental exposures in combination with inherited variation in response to environmental exposures and mitochondrial function. Therefore, it is postulated that variation in a particular mtDNA lineage of children contributes to the effects of mitochondrial DNA damage on MCD phenotype. Quantitative PCR and dot blot were used to examine mitochondrial oxidative damage and single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in the mitochondrial genome in brain tissue from 48 pediatric intractable epilepsy patients from Miami Children’s Hospital and 11 control samples from NICHD Brain and Tissue Bank for Developmental Disorders. Epilepsy patients showed higher mtDNA copy number compared to normal health subjects (controls). Oxidative mtDNA damage was lower in non-neoplastic but higher in neoplastic epilepsy patients compared to controls. There was a trend of lower mtDNA oxidative damage in the non-neoplastic (MCD) patients compared to controls, yet, the reverse was observed in neoplastic (MCD and Non-MCD) epilepsy patients. The presence of mtDNA SNP and haplogroups did not show any statistically significant relationships with epilepsy phenotypes. However, SNPs G9804A and G9952A were found in higher frequencies in epilepsy samples. Logistic regression analysis showed no relationship between mtDNA oxidative stress, mtDNA copy number, mitochondrial haplogroups and SNP variations with epilepsy in pediatric patients. The levels of mtDNA copy number and oxidative mtDNA damage and the SNPs G9952A and T10010C predicted neoplastic epilepsy, however, this was not significant due to a small sample size of pediatric subjects. Findings of this study indicate that an increase in mtDNA content may be compensatory mechanisms for defective mitochondria in intractable epilepsy and brain tumor. Further validation of these findings related to mitochondrial genotypes and mitochondrial dysfunction in pediatric epilepsy and MCD may lay the ground for the development of new therapies and prevention strategies during embryogenesis.

Abstract:
The spectra of optical absorption and of magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) have been measured in the 350–1150 nm wavelength range for a set of colloidal solutions containing Au and Ag nanoparticles. The average size of Au nanoparticles was 6 nm and having thiolate coatings with different degrees of chirality. (The average size of Ag nanoparticles was 14 nm and having citrate coatings) The form of absorption and MCD spectra suggests the dipole character of interband transitions involving the 5d–6(sp) for Au orbitals and 4d–5(sp) for Ag orbitals. The absence (within the experimental error) of the MCD spectra dependence on the coating type rules out the hypothesis on the orbital nature of the observed magnetism. We argue that the spin polarization plays the dominant role in the magnetism both for Au and Ag nanoparticles. Abstract:
This work presents a new three-phase high power factor single-stage AC-DC converter based on the DCM SEPIC topology, using bidirectional switches. This converter operates as a voltage follower even in open loop (SEPIC DCM converter characteristic), in other words, it emulates a resistance from the electric grid point of view. Therefore, the control effort is reduced to a single control loop to control the DC output voltage, like an output voltage control of a DC-DC converter. This single-stage converter has high reliability, since it employs four active switches with the same command signal and six high frequency diodes for AC-DC conversion with high power factor and high frequency isolation. A system disadvantage is related to the constraint in the choice of transformer turns, which leads to high current values in the secondary-side for lower output voltage specifications. Hereon are presented the operation modes, the ideal waveforms, the main equations of the converter, the numerical simulation results contrasting with the theoretical values and experimental results. Design specifications are 127 V input voltage, 200 V output voltage, 50 kHz switching frequency and 1500 W output power. The prototype is obtained by following the specifications and it shows 0.9981 of power factor, 4.234% of total harmonic distortion and 85.522% of efficiency for rated condition. This converter is considered a choice for low power three-phase systems with low cost realization.

Daffé, Niéli. "Anisotropies and Magnetic Couplings of Texturable Ferrofluids." Thesis, Paris 6, 2016. http://www.theses.fr/2016PA066640/document.

Full text
Abstract:
Ferrofluids are colloidal suspensions of magnetic nanoparticles dispersed in a carrier liquid. The intimate interaction between the magnetic nanoparticles and the liquid provides a unique system, from both fundamental and industrial application point of views, whose flow and properties can be precisely controlled using an external magnetic field. Magnetic nanoparticles of spinel ferrites MFe2O4 (M = Fe2+, Co2+, Mn2+…) are of particular scientific interest and have been extensively studied for their electrical and magnetic properties. Spinel ferrites find potential applications, notably in storage devices, for computers, or hyperthermia, for cancer treatment, where high magnetic anisotropy energies are required at the nanoscale. However, deeper knowledges of the fine mechanisms playing a significant role on the magnetic anisotropies existing in the nanospinels are necessary to help the creation of rationalized materials with controlled magnetic anisotropies for the requirement of the system. In this thesis, we have used X-ray Magnetic Circular Dichroism (XMCD) as an original approach for probing the magnetic anisotropies and magnetic couplings of nanospinels obtained in ferrofluids. The nanoparticles are iron bearing spinels for which cobalt ions have been introduced in the spinel structure of the nanoparticles as a true makers of magnetic anisotropy. First, magnetic nanospinels have been synthesized by tuning their size and composition and using different synthesis processes. XMCD investigations revealed that the coercive field of the nanospinels is governed by the concentration of Co2+ ions sitting in octahedral sites of the spinel structure, and this can be directly linked to some synthesis parameters. Then, we have investigated core@shell nanoparticles, which can be synthesized with an appropriate choice of magnetic anisotropies for the core and the shell in order to tailor optimal magnetic properties. In the case of MnFe2O4@CoFe2O4, our findings reveal that the very thin CoFe2O4 shell imposes a strong magnetic anisotropy to the otherwise very soft MnFe2O4 core. The other class of ferrofluids that has been investigated during this thesis are binary ferrofluids that are constituted of two different types of magnetic nanoparticles. For such systems, the carrier liquid must be preserved to understand the magnetic interactions in the ferrofluid as they are. Another motivation of this thesis was thus to extend XMCD to the in situ investigation of the nanospinels dispersed in ferrofluids. We have been started a liquid cell development in the DEIMOS beamline at SOLEIL. The setup is still in progress and is aimed at being compatible with soft X-Rays short penetration depth and ultra-high vacuum environment. Hard X-ray photon-in/photon-out spectroscopy coupled to XMCD (1s2p RIXS-MCD) can be a very valuable alternative to soft X-ray XMCD at K-edge of 3d elements when liquid cell sample environment is required. The instrumental development of a liquid cell used with 1s2p RIXS-MCD spectroscopy allowed us to investigate the nanoparticles directly in the ferrofluids revealing interparticles magnetic couplings in binary ferrofluids

This work presents the study and development of the small-signal dynamic modeling of the ZETA converter operating in discontinuous conduction mode, powered from photovoltaic solar panels in order to connect them to the power grid. Initially, it is presented a study of the main characteristics of solar cells. A deep analysis of the ZETA converter working in steady state is performed, considering that the Zeta converter synthesizes a rectified sine wave current with the same frequency as the power grid. This feature makes this converter a key part in implementing the module integrated inverter for photovoltaic systems. The converter is analyzed in the switching frequency and in the power grid frequency. A detailed examination of the dynamic behavior of the Zeta converter is achieved by the state-space averaging modeling approach, resulting in a linear analytical model described in state variables. In all tests it was assumed that the commercial power grid presents a resistive load behavior (variable value). Finally, the analytical dynamic model obtained is validated through computer simulations and by laboratory tests on a prototype specially designed for this purpose.

This work proposes the study and implementation of resonant controllers applied to photovoltaic panels grid-tied by a Zeta converter. This converter is designed to synthesize a rectified sinusoidal waveform current with low-harmonic content. Operating in discontinuous conduction mode, the Zeta Converter is connected to a full-bridge inverter so that one semi-cycle of the output current is inverted for every cycle of the power grid voltage, allowing the connection of PV panels to the power grid. The assembly formed by PV panel and inverter is known as Module-Integrated Inverter (MII). By aiming the project of resonant controllers, an analysis of the Zeta converter is presented, including its state-space model proposed in previous works. Furthermore, fundamental robust control concepts involved on the resonant controllers project are presented. In order to determine the gains of the resonant controllers, a formulation based on Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs) that guarantees the stability and performance of the closed-loop system is presented. A state-observer is also designed, reducing the number of variables that must be measured. Finally, the developed control strategy is validated through computational simulations and laboratorial tests on a prototype specially developed to this purpose. The results obtained by the experimental results validated the purpose, confirming the viability of using resonant controllers for this application, in order to synthesize a sinusoidal current waveform with low-harmonic content, synchronized with the power grid.

Li, Donghui. "MCG: A multilayer general area MCM routing algorithm." Diss., The University of Arizona, 1995. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/187524.

Full text
Abstract:
A new multilayer, general-area, multichip module (MCM) routing algorithm, called MCG, is introduced. The algorithm differs from other MCM routers in the way that the routes interconnecting the nets are constructed. Some routers perform the routing net-by-net and others extend the routes piece by piece during the routing process. The MCG router takes a more global approach by constructing a small number of candidate routes for each net, building a compatibility graph for the candidate routes and reducing the graph to yield a routing solution. Due to this unique way of performing the routing, the MCG router offers several outstanding features. First, it performs the routing of the nets simultaneously. Therefore it is not subject to the net ordering problem. Second, it can give the designer the flexibility of selecting the topology of routes for the nets to be routed, which is almost impossible for other algorithms. Third, it offers a natural way to incorporate the electrical constraints into the routing process, which is absent or hard to handle in other algorithms. The timing constraint can be incorporated easily by constructing the candidate routes of the net according to the requirements of the design; and the compatibility test of the candidate routes can be used to estimate the crosstalk between the routes from different nets, which make the crosstalk estimation more sophisticated than the other techniques. Compared with other MCM routers, the MCG router produces better quality routing solutions in terms of number of layers, number of vias, total wire length and routing density. In addition to the application in the area of MCM routing, the MCG algorithm can also be applied to high density PCB routing problems.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Today the increase in complexity within the development process of automatic machines and automated systems and delivery times of the control project and the various mechanical movements. This is done by creating a virtual replica of the entire machine or only by the critical parts of the same through a physical simulation software. The objective of this thesis project is the design using a virtual commissioning software useful for testing the control logic, creating a virtual 3D model of a machine and connecting a real PLC to it. Corazza S.p.a. world leader in the construction of machines for soup cubes, melted cheeses and butter, which for the project it has provided the CAD design of the machine and the instrumentation as PC and motion controller. The software on which the 3D model was virtualized was delivered by Siemens and its name is NX-MCD, which provided support in the first phase of the virtual modeling. The project was divided into two parts: The generation of the stand-alone virtual model from the 3D CAD design. Hardware-in-the-loop connection with Schneider PLC to move the virtual model and test the control logic. Below there is a brief introduction to the chapters of the thesis: The first chapter presents the meaning of virtual commissioning, considering the various technologies used and what is the goal of this type of activity. In the second chapter there is an explanation of the software used to perform the thesis activity, studying its potential and its functionality. In he last part of the chapter there is a brief introduction of the competitors on the market. The third chapter presents the automatic boxing machine on which the project of virtual commissioning is done, studying the task of the machine and the critic part. Abstract:

Abstract:
As handheld devices have become increasingly popular, powerful programmable graphics hardware for mobile and handheld devices has been deployed. While many resources on mobile devices are limited, the predominant problem for mobile devices is their limited battery power. Several techniques have been proposed to increase the energy efficiency of mobile applications and improve battery life. In this thesis, we propose a new dynamic voltage and frequency scaling (DVFS) on Graphics Processing Units (GPU). In most cases, cues within the graphics appli- cation can be used to predict portions of a GPU that will be used or unused when the application is run. We partition the GPU into six clock domains that can be clocked at different rates. Specifically, each domain it has its own voltage and frequency set- ting based on its predicted workload to save energy without reducing applications frame rates. In addition, we propose an signature-based algorithm for predicting the workload offered to our six clock domains by a given application to decide voltage and frequency settings. We conduct experiments and compare the results of our new signature based workload prediction algorithm with some other traditional interval based workload prediction algorithms. Our results show that our signature-based prediction can save 30-50% energy without afecting application frame rates.

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Outliers may be defined as observations that are sufficiently aberrant to arouse the suspicion of the analyst as to their origin. They could be the result of human error, in which case they should be corrected, but they may also be an interesting exception, and this would deserve further investigation. Identification of outliers typically consists of an informal inspection of a plot of the data, but this is unreliable for dimensions greater than two. A formal procedure for detecting outliers allows for consistency when classifying observations. It also enables one to automate the detection of outliers by using computers. The special case of univariate data is treated separately to introduce essential concepts, and also because it may well be of interest in its own right. We then consider techniques used for detecting multiple outliers in a multivariate normal sample, and go on to explain how these may be generalized to include cluster analysis. Multivariate outlier detection is based on the Minimum Covariance Determinant (MCD) subset, and is therefore treated in detail. Exact bivariate algorithms were refined and implemented, and the solutions were used to establish the performance of the commonly used heuristic, Fast–MCD.

Abstract:
This thesis is devoted toMultiobjective Optimization Design (MOOD) procedures for controller tuning applications, by means of EvolutionaryMultiobjective Optimization (EMO).With such purpose, developments on tools, procedures and guidelines to facilitate this process have been realized. This thesis is divided in four parts. The first part, namely Fundamentals, is devoted on the one hand, to cover the theorical background required for this Thesis; on the other hand, it provides a state of the art review on current applications of MOOD for controller tuning. The second part, Preliminary contributions on controller tuning, states early contributions using the MOOD procedure for controller tuning, identifying gaps on methodologies and tools used in this procedure. The contribution within this part is to identify the gaps between the three fundamental steps of theMOOD procedure: problemdefinition, search and decisionmaking. These gaps are the basis for the developments presented in parts III and IV. The third part, Contributions on MOOD tools, is devoted to improve the tools used in Part II. Although applications on the scope of this thesis are related to controller tuning, such improvements can also be used in other engineering fields. The first contribution regards the decision making process, where tools and guidelines for design concepts comparison in m-dimensional Pareto fronts are stated. The second contribution focuses on amending the gap between search process and decisionmaking. With this in mind, a mechanism for preference inclusion within the evolutionary process is developed. With this it is possible to calculate pertinent approximations of the Pareto front; furthermore, it allows to deal efficiently with many-objective and constrained optimization instances. Finally, in the fourth part, Final contributions on controller tuning, a stochastic sampling procedure for proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controllers is proposed, to guarantee that (1) any sampled controller will stabilize the closed loop and (2) any stabilizing controller could be sampled. Afterwards, two control engineering benchmarks are solved using this sampling strategy, the MOOD guidelines highlighted trough this Thesis for multivariable controller tuning and the tools developed in Part III.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a highly aggressive skin cancer with rising global incidence. Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCV) was discovered in 2008 in 80% of MCC samples and since then a causal link between MCV and the majority of MCC cases has been established. microRNAs (miRNA, miR) are a family of small non-coding RNAs which play a key role in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression and are considered significant players in disease and development in many species. Whilst the focus of MCV research has thus far been on the oncogenic MCV early proteins, large tumour (LT) and small tumour (sT) antigens, there is a knowledge gap regarding MCV miRNA and its functional significance in MCV pathogenesis. Given the emerging importance of viral miRNAs in virus-host interaction and pathogenesis, the aim of this doctoral research project was to investigate alterations in host cell transcripts induced by MCV miRNA and determine any functional significance these might have on virus-host cell interaction. RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq) in the presence and absence of MCV miRNA uncovered a multitude of downregulated cellular transcripts. Gene ontology analysis revealed that MCV miRNA targets transcripts associated with multiple cellular processes, however, regulation of immune response was overrepresented in our datasets. Validation of RNA-Seq data using MCV miRNA mimics and a synthetic, fully replicative MCV genome (MCVSyn) confirmed RNA-Seq data at mRNA and protein expression level for several targets, including the cytokine stimulating gene, SP100, and the neutrophil stimulator chemokine, CXCL8. Moreover, dual luciferase assays revealed that SP100 and MAPK10 (a member of mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK) family which is involved in regulation of CXCL8 expression) are directly and specifically targeted and downregulated by MCV miRNA. The MCV miRNA-dependent dysregulation of CXCL8 secretion is associated with impaired neutrophil migration, suggesting that the virus miRNA may be implicated in evasion of the host immune response.

Abstract:
Research in sustainable macroalgae aquaculture has been gaining hype (e.g. Seafarm) to provide advancements in new significant sources of food, feed, materials and bio-energy. Despite the fact that in Asia the offshore production of macroalgae is established for many decades, in Europe is still in its infancy. The issue on where to find suitable cultivation areas without conflicting with current uses to respect the environment and the socio-economic activities is a great challenge. This Master of Science thesis aimed to find suitable offshore areas in order to facilitate implementations of macroalgae cultivations in the Swedish West Coast. Thirteen criteria in environmental, economic and social sustainability aspects were identified and employed (e.g. Depth, Distance to Ports, and Natural and Preserved areas (NPAs)), and the tools Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Multi-criteria Analysis (MCA) were used in the form of GIS-MCDA, an integrated method available in Idrisi. To aggregate the criteria, Boolean and Weighted Linear Combination (WLC) techniques were applied. The results showed that Boolean areas cover 537 km2 (6,98% of the study area). The best suitable areas, possessing the maximum suitability index 10, that resulted from two WLC models comprise 5 km2 (0,07% of the study area) and 26 km2 (0,34% of the study area) including and excluding the criterion NPAs as constraint, respectively. The results further indicated that GIS-MCDA models excelled in providing an overview for effective spatial decision-making. Both techniques play a role in suitability analysis and complement each other in finding an optimal site which could be carefully selected out of the identified areas. It is recommended that areas with a suitability index 10 be chosen inside Boolean suitable areas. Moreover, this study could act as a driving force to build a resilient planning framework that would boost sustainable placement and development of offshore macroalgae cultivations.

Abstract:
With the resource constrained nature of mobile devices and the resource abundant offerings of the cloud, several promising optimisation techniques have been proposed by the green computing research community. Prominent techniques and unique methods have been developed to offload resource/computation intensive tasks from mobile devices to the cloud. Most of the existing offloading techniques can only be applied to legacy mobile applications as they are motivated by existing systems. Consequently, they are realised with custom runtimes which incur overhead on the application. Moreover, existing approaches which can be applied to the software development phase, are difficult to implement (based on manual process) and also fall short of overall (mobile to cloud) efficiency in software qualityattributes or awareness of full-tier (mobile to cloud) implications. To address the above issues, the thesis proposes a model-driven architecturefor integration of software quality with green optimisation in Mobile Cloud Applications (MCAs), abbreviated as Mango architecture. The core aim of the architecture is to present an approach which easily integrates software quality attributes (SQAs) with the green optimisation objective of Mobile Cloud Computing (MCC). Also, as MCA is an application domain which spans through the mobile and cloud tiers; the Mango architecture, therefore, takesinto account the specification of SQAs across the mobile and cloud tiers, for overall efficiency. Furthermore, as a model-driven architecture, models can be built for computation intensive tasks and their SQAs, which in turn drives the development – for development efficiency. Thus, a modelling framework (called Mosaic) and a full-tier test framework (called Beftigre) were proposed to automate the architecture derivation and demonstrate the efficiency of Mango approach. By use of real world scenarios/applications, Mango has been demonstrated to enhance the MCA development process while achieving overall efficiency in terms of SQAs (including mobile performance and energy usage compared to existing counterparts).

Introduction:This thesis was elaborated on the basis of scientific articles. It is observed that women have undergone several changes in the social, family and professional fields, and have conquered spaces in society, which has been positive; on the other hand, this has negatively impacted their quality of life and their body image. In this context, belly dancing has been sought as an alternative to this problem. Objective: To analyze the quality of life and body image of women who practice belly dancing. Method: two articles. 1) Systematic review elaborated according to PRISMA (2009), of quantitative studies registered in electronic platforms, identified with the descriptors quality of life, dance and women, in Portuguese, English and Spanish, and published until June 30, 2017, in any local. The mean and standard deviation of the quality of life outcomes were compared, with a significant difference. We used reference management software and bias risk assessment. The article was prepared by two independent reviewers. 2) Cross-sectional study according to STROBE (2008), using a sociodemographic questionnaire, WHOQOL-bref and Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ), Statistical Analysis of Chi-square, Cronbach's Alpha, Kruskal-Wallis and Spearman correlation, with significance level 5% (p <0.05). Results: 1) Review of nine randomized clinical trials that used four instruments to assess the quality of life of overweight, cancer, fibromyalgia or non-health-related women; age from 20 to 64 years old, practicing belly dancing, zumba, circular dance, and Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) for a period of three to sixteen weeks. Studies analyzed in subgroups, with significance in the results of eight of them, with improvements, mainly in the physical and psychological domains of quality of life, with the intervention of some type of dance for at least eight weeks. 2) A cross-sectional study with 98 women, mean age of 32.8 (± 10.4) years. Among those surveyed, 89.8% had no concern with body image; 7.1% showed mild concern; and 3.1%, moderate concern. The following were found: positive correlation between the preoccupation with body image and BMI (r = 0.52, p <0.01); (r = -0.50, p <0.001) and environmental (r = - 0.35, p = 0.02) in women who practiced dancing for less than one year, and in the social domain (r = - 0.61, p = 0.01), those who practiced dance for six years or more; and positive correlation between the environmental domain (r = 0.29, p = 0.01) and dance time. Conclusions: In the systematic review, it was verified that dance improves the quality of life of adult women in the physical and psychological domains, when practiced at least twice a week, for at least eight weeks. In the cross-sectional study, there was a positive correlation between preoccupation with body image and measures of BMI, and between time of belly dance practice and quality of life; and negative correlation between quality of life and preoccupation with body image.

Abstract:
This thesis is an account of research into a novel type of X-ray optic - the microchannel plate (MCP). Experiments to determine the point to point focusing properties of square pore MCPs manufactured by Galileo Electro-Optics and Philips Photonics are reported. These were performed both in a test chamber at Leicester with an electron-bombardment X-ray source and with a laser-plasma X-ray source at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. A resolution of 6 arcmin and an intensity gain of 20 were recorded using a Galileo focusing MCP. An invesigation into the focusing action of MCPs which have been curved to a spherical figure is detailed. Such curved MCPs may, in a manner reminiscent of a conventional refractive lens, be used to focus a parallel X-ray beam to a point forming the basis of an X-ray telescope, or conversely to convert the diverging beam from a point-like X-ray source to a quasi-parallel one. The curving experiments were performed by Philips Photonics on standard circular pore MCPs. Tests on these plates were performed at Leicester; the results appear favourable. The technique has been applied to MCPs of up to 4mm thickness, curving them to a radius of 1.4m (0.7m focal length). A comprehensive Monte Carlo ray-tracing model is presented. This was initially developed to facilitate an understanding of the geometry of MCP focusing and to produce idealised images corresponding to a given experimental set up. These perfect images may be compared with, or used to predict experimental results. Comparison with experimental results led to incorporation of MCP distortions into the code. These distortions have been found by a programme of metrology which is also described. The model has led to a clear insight into the causes of poor image quality and their relative importance.

Abstract:
Dr. Eleine Mad is Madeleine Jacobsson's spokesperson for the scientific and paranormal discoveries that arise in her worlds. She describes content, tecniques and aesthetics based on a categorization system where art is divided into different types of components and then decoded as they go. To understand the intuition's involvement in the work process, it is transformed into three separate roles by a Seeker, Collector and a Myntare(In swedish language the one who is a "myntare" -is verbally declaring a concept or term). With these roles I try to describe in what ways intuition is beneficial or devastating to the artistic work. The story of M is about a frog-like character, Delop, who leaves the home planet to seek out other worlds. In her search, Delop finds a world whose views and lifestyles differ from her experiences of "reality" as she learned to survive in it.
