Abstract:
This thesis is focused on IT Project Portfolio Management and the creation of tools for teaching it. The objectives are first to summarize the evolution of IT Project Portfolio Management, then to extend the current process of project selection with other elements and points of view, and also to create a software tool for teaching IT Project Portfolio Management. The thesis deals with the emergence and subsequent development of IT Project Portfolio Management and its benefits, problems, and concepts, which are necessary for deeper understanding of the issue. Furthermore, the thesis describes the cycle of IT Project Portfolio Management and highlights the important moments and trends. In addition, it focuses on the processes used in the context of portfolio management and its impact on the company and its employees. It also lists some options how to limit its and how to improve the quality of project plans. The focus of the thesis is also on the process of criteria selection and ways of obtaining appropriate weights of criteria and on other methods of selecting projects. The last chapter contains a manual how to work with the attached MS Excel file. The file provides a tool for the assessment of projects.

The final plan accommodates for increased residential densities, a mixture of adjacent land uses, a greenbelt, and large areas of land adjacent to Highway 99 for commercial and industrial use.

This thesis is in support of the Master of Fine Arts exhibition entitled The McFarlands at East Tennessee State University, Slocumb Galleries, Johnson City, Tennessee, November 5th - 9th, 2007. This artist's photographic survey, which lasted approximately two years, investigated the lifeworld of a family in a rural Appalachian town. His photographic work depicts the subjects working on their farm growing tobacco and their relationships within the family unit. The artist discusses his work in terms of historical and contemporary influences with an emphasis on the relationship to the work of Lewis W. Hine, Wright Morris, Mary Ellen Mark, and David M. Spear. The thesis includes images and discussion of four works.

This diploma thesis was created for a fast-growing IT company and deals with an information systems selection and implementation. Theoretical background concerning the topic is described in the first part. Then, the company is analysed and its weaknesses are identified based on these results. Abstract:
In this master thesis the gyroscopic stabilization of a two-wheeled amphibious concept vehicle is investigated. The key idea is to neutralize external torques applied on the vehicle by the counter torque produced from the two gyroscopes attached on the vehicle. Here the gyroscopes are used as actuators, not as sensors. When a torque is applied in order to rotate a gyroscope whose flywheel is spinning, then the gyroscope precesses and it generates a moment, orthogonal to both the torque and the spinning axis. This phenomenon is known as gyroscopic precession. As the vehicle leans from its upright position we expect to generate sufficient gyroscopic reaction moment to bring the vehicle back and get it stabilized.   We first derive the equations of motion based on Lagrangian mechanics. It is worth mentioning that we only consider the control dynamics of a static vehicle. This is the so called regulator problem where we try to counteract the effects of disturbances. The trajectory tracking (servo problem) and the water-travelling can be considered as an extension of the current project. We linearize the dynamics around an equilibrium and we study the stability of the linearized model. We then design an LQG controller, a Glover-McFarlane controller and a cascade PID controller. Regarding the implementation part, we only focus on the cascade PID controller. The results from both simulations and experiments with a small-scale prototype are presented and discussed.

This reappraisal of archaeology conducted at the Saige-McFarland site presents for the first time a substantial body of comparative data from a Mimbres period site in the Gila drainage. Lekson offers a new and controversial interpretation of the Mimbres sequence, reintroducing the concept of the Mangas phase first proposed by the Gila Pueblo investigations of the 1930s and demonstrating a more gradual shift from pithouse to pueblo occupance than has been suggested previously.

Abstract:
Denna karaktärsstudie undersöker Trisha McFarland i den svenska översättningen av Stephen Kings (2000) roman Flickan som älskade Tom Gordon. Syftet med studien är att med hjälp av berättartekniska grepp analysera framställningen av karaktären och hennes tillskrivna egenskaper. Dessutom finns ett syfte att undersöka hur karaktärens egenskaper kan beskrivas sett utifrån ett genusperspektiv. Den semiotiska delen av analysen visar att karaktären Trisha McFarland till större del framställs genom direkt karakterisering. I romanen tillskrivs karaktären många egenskaper vilket gör att läsare kan uppfatta henne som en rund karaktär. Dessutom genomgår karaktären en inre utveckling under berättelsens gång vilket bidrar till att karaktären kan uppfattas som dynamisk. Den mimetiska delen av analysen visar att Trisha McFarland besitter många egenskaper som ofta tillskrivs kvinnliga karaktärer. Genom att karaktären framställs med övervägande feminina egenskaper i romanen bekräftar hon även de könsstereotyper som är vanligt förekommande i skönlitteratur. Analysen och den avslutande diskussionen visar att denna karaktärsstudie har en relevans för läraryrket samt för ämnet svenska eftersom det är skolans uppdrag att synliggöra de könsstereotypiska föreställningar som finns i vårt samhälle, i våra klassrum och i litteraturen.

Abstract:
The purpose of this essay is to study two film adaptations of the original Planet of the Apes novel and see what kind of relationship the two adaptations have with each other. The main question is if the secondary film adaptation is restricted by the primary and if the relationships between these two are as two separate adaptations or as a remake of an adaptation. What the results of the study show is that the secondary adaptation can not be seen as a remake even though it gets some of its inspiration from both the original story as well as the primary adaptation. The secondary adaptation is, however, restricted in what it can adapt due to the primary adaptation having the first pick, at least if the secondary adaptation wishes to be a whole new adaptation and not a remake of the primary. The study shows also that the fidelity in the secondary adaptation is not necessarily to either the original or the primary but to the knowledge the audience has about the Planet of the Apes universe which they have gathered from all of the important versions of the story. The essay also states that there is yet much to learn about the relationship between secondary and primary film adaptations which means that the field is still in need of exploration.

Abstract:
I den här uppsatsen har jag undersökt argumentationen i Katarina Frostensons K – en skönlitterär bok som skrevs i en tid (hösten 2017 till våren 2018) då #metoo-rörelsen svepte över världen och 18 kvinnor hade vittnat i DN om övergrepp av en känd kulturprofil med nära band till Svenska Akademien. Flera medier namngav mannen som Jean-Claude Arnault, make till akademiledamoten och poeten Katarina Frostenson. Händelserna ledde till en av de största kriserna i Svenska Akademiens historia och K är Frostensons första och enda offentliga yttrande rörande situationen. Boken utkom i maj 2019 och den här undersökningen väljer att tolka den som ett slags försvar mot det Arnault och hon själv har anklagats för. Då samtida retorisk teori visat på vikten av myter i argumentation (Bengtson 2012), och både juridiska och empiriska aspekter talar emot Frostensons retoriska problem, har underökningen utgått från att argumentationen använder sig av emotionella och suggestiva appeller i form av myter. Med hjälp av Brummets närläsningsmetod (2019) och Lindqvists topikteori (2016) har Frostensons argumen-tation delats in i tre övergripande topiker. Dessa har sedan analyserats och identifierat ett antal myter som Frostenson använder sig av för att stärka sin argumentation. En myt som analyseras mer djupgående är exempelvis den antika myten om megäror och kvinnor som hämndlystna monster, vilken Frostenson applicerar på kvinnorna som vittnat i DN. En annan myt handlar om kollektivets behov av syndabockar och att Arnault fått den rollen. En tredje myt hävdar att svenskar är främlingsfientliga eftersom Arnault får ta skulden på grund av sin franska och judiska härkomst. En fjärde myt argumenterar för att åtrå legitimerar våld, vilket hon försöker stärka genom den bibliska berättelsen om kung David och Batseba.  Utöver Bengtsons tolkning av Barthes mytteori (2012) som utgångspunkt har undersökningen bland annat tagit avstamp i kommunikationsprofessorn McFarlands teori om kopplingen mellan myten och det heliga (1989), genusforskaren Tassis teorier om kvinnor och hämnd (2011) samt Richard Kearneys tolkning av René Girards offermekanismer (1995). Vidare har analysen satts i relation till relevant tidigare forskning och kopplats till både historiska och samtida händelser och kontexter. Jag hävdar att min undersökning visar hur viktigt det är att söka efter mer än bara logiska premisser i argumentation. Frostenson har i princip uteslutande myter som bas i sin argumentation, och de är inte alltid helt uppenbara – dolda i suggestiva termer och ett symboliskt språk. Ett av den här uppsatsens syften var att försöka visa hur en mytisk argumentationsanalys kan gå till i praktiken, för att utöka kunskapen kring hur vi kan förstå argumentation i känslomässiga kontexter, så som i debatter om sexuella övergrepp, men också rent generellt. Resultatet som framkommit i undersökningen, det vill säga den mängd myter som identifierats och analyserats, bör inspirera till vidare forskning i ämnet. Statistics of convective updraft fraction (σ) dependence, using the analysis methods in Arakawa and Wu (2013) (AW13), in a 15 days period of time-variant thermodynamic forcing case (DYNAMO), and the offline test of unified parameterization (UP) closure combined with Zhang-McFarlane parameterization scheme (ZM) are presented in this work. The similar result of σ dependence within DYNAMO and GATE (used in AW13), and of the four different strength categories of precipitation in DYNAMO explain that the σ dependence is more appropriate than resolution dependence for unified-parameterizing multi-phase convection. The UP closure proposed by AW13 uses σ as the tuning parameter to adjust the conventional parameterized convection, which lacks of consciousness of sub-grid scale convection coverage. The results of inputting DYNAMO forcing into the ZM, combined with UP and vertical velocity parameterization scheme, which is for diagnosing unknown σ in the closure, shows the underestimation of the σ values and the shift of convective areas away from the cloud resolving model (CRM) simulation, causing the problem of tuning down the parameterized mass fluxes at incorrect places. This can be improved by revising the closure that decides the place of convection and tuning the in-cloud vertical velocities to a more reasonable scale. The purpose of UP scheme is to adjust the sub-grid scale convection by regarding its parameterized σ, so even the ensemble average of convection fluxes doesn’t significantly changed after applying UP scheme, the σ dependence of unified parameterized convection fluxes still better fit the σ dependence in the convection of CRM.
