This article contains a table of contents to the 4408 pages of official testimony from Ontario’s Royal Commission on Book Publishing,which operated from 1971 to 1973 looking into questions about the business of publishing in Canada. The table of contents helpsresearchers discover who testified before the commission—whether as individuals or on behalf of their company or organization—andwhen they testified in order to be able to find the official transcript of their testimony and their accompanying brief in the archival filesheld at the Archives of Ontario (RG 18-164). Abstract:

Transient coupled radiative and conductive heat transfer in a three-layer absorbing and isotropically scattering composite with semitransparent specular interfaces and surfaces is investigated. The transient energy equation is solved by the full implicit control-volume method in combination with spectral band model. The radiative heat source term is calculated by the radiative transfer coefficients (RTCs), which are deduced by the ray tracing method in combination with Hottel and Sarofim’s zonal method (Hottel H. C., and Sarofim A. F., 1967, Radiative Transfer, McGraw-Hill Book Company, New York). The effects of extinction coefficient, refractive index, and scattering albedo etc., on coupled heat transfer are studied under radiative and convective boundary conditions. The effect of isolating space on coupled heat transfer and the appearance of temperature peaks within the composite are investigated. It is found that temperature peaks also appear in the inner parts of an inhomogeneous semitransparent medium layer even though there is no convection cooling on the surfaces. This occurs when the absorbing coefficient of inner parts is higher than that of the parts close to the surfaces, and the two surfaces are semitransparent and subjected to an external radiation.

Abstract:

ABSTRACT Drugs are chemicals that are produced to reduce pain and prevent the risk of various diseases. In the manufacture of drugs, several stages of the process are needed which are quite long and require calculations from each process to produce products that meet the requirements and minimize errors during the process that can cause company losses. The research was carried out by direct observation during the process as well as collecting data on the mass of materials before and after the process, as well as critical parameters listed from the PPI (Main Processing Procedure) book for 1 batch of drug manufacture which takes more than 24 hours to manufacture. From observations, it is known that the drug manufacturing process has an adiabatic process where the resulting mass balance has the equation mass in = mass out and there is no chemical reaction that takes place. In the drying process, the heat balance can be calculated because this process produces heat which requires a certain amount of energy in the process. The drying machine used is an FBD (Fluidized Bed Dryer) machine which requires a certain amount of power so that the efficiency of this machine can be known to maximize the process. Keywords: Drug, FBD, Mass Balance, Heat Balance, Process ABSTRAK Obat merupakan suatu bahan kimia yang diproduksi untuk mengurangi rasa sakit dan mencegah timbulnya risiko berbagai penyakit. Pada pembuatan obat, diperlukan beberapa tahapan proses yang cukup panjang serta membutuhkan perhitungan dari setiap prosesnya untuk menghasilkan produk yang sesuai persyaratan dan meminimalisir kesalahan saat proses yang dapat menyebabkan kerugian perusahaan. Penelitian dilakukan dengan metode pengamatan langsung saat proses berlangsung serta pengumpulan data massa bahan sebelum dan sesudah proses, juga parameter kritis yang tercantum dari buku PPI (Prosedur Pengolahan Induk) untuk 1 batch pembuatan obat dimana pada pembuatannya membutuhkan waktu lebih dari 24 jam. Dari pengamatan, diketahui bahwa pada proses pembuatan obat memiliki proses adiabatik dimana neraca massa yang dihasilkan memiliki persamaan massa masuk = massa keluar dan tidak adanya reaksi kimia yang berlangsung. Pada proses pengeringan, neraca panas dapat dihitung karena pada proses ini menghasilkan panas yang membutuhkan sejumlah energi pada prosesnya. Mesin pengering yang digunakan adalah mesin FBD (Fluidized Bed Dryer) yang membutuhkan sejumlah daya sehingga dapat diketahui efesiensi mesin ini untuk memaksimalkan proses. Light emitted from atoms during transitions of electrons from higher to lower discrete states has the form of photons carrying energy and angular momentum. This paper considers the process of emission of a single photon from the hydrogen atom by using quantum theory and Maxwell's equations [W. Gough, Eur. J. Phys. 17, 208, 1996; L. D. Landau and E. M. Lifshitz, Quantum Mechanics (Pergamon Press, Oxford, 1965); J. D. Jackson, Classical Electrodynamics (John Wiley & Son, New York, 1975, 1982); P. M. Morse and H. Feshbach, Methods of Theoretical Physics (McGraw-Hill Book Company, Inc., New York, 1953)]. The electric and magnetic fields of a photon arise from the time-dependent quantum probability densities of the orbit and the spin current. This paper is an extension of the semiclassical description of photon emission published by the author earlier in 1999 [M. Kowalski, Phys. Essays 12, 312 (1999)]. In the semiclassical approach, the Coulomb force and a radiation resistance force have been taken into account to get time-dependent emission of the photon. In both the quantum and semiclassical cases, the transition takes place within a time interval equal to one period of the photon's wave. The creation of a one-wavelength-long photon is supported by the results of experiments using ultrafast (ultrashort) laser pulses to generate excited atoms, which emit light pulses shorter than two photon wavelengths [F. Krausz and M. Ivanov, Rev. Mod. Phys. 81, 163 (2009); H. Kapteyn and M. Murnane, Phys. World 12, 31 (1999)].

Abstract:

Poa annua frequently is found as the dominant turfgrass species on golf course putting greens grown in the range of cool-season grasses. While not intentionally established, it is an aggressive weed in stands of bentgrasses (Agrostis spp.). When significant encroachment of P. annua occurs, it often is maintained indefinitely. In May 2003, P. annua putting greens at the Riverside Country Club in Rothesay, New Brunswick, Canada showed signs of an unidentified disease. Putting greens were slow to green up and large chlorotic patches were evident across affected areas. When roots were examined, extensive galling was observed. Galls were slender and often twisted in appearance. Upon dissection of washed galls, hundreds of eggs were exuded into the surrounding water droplet, and mature male and female nematodes were observed. Further morphological examination of males, females, and juvenile nematodes demonstrated that they were Subanguina radicicola (Greef 1872) Paramanov 1967 (1,2). Each P. annua plant had an average of four galls (with a range of two to nine) primarily located within the uppermost centimeter of the soil. Of 18 P. annua putting greens, four were affected by the nematode and displayed the same damage symptoms. S. radicicola has been identified from American beachgrass in Rhode Island and from P. annua in Oregon, but to our knowledge, this is the first report of the nematode affecting P. annua on a golf course in eastern North America.
