Abstract:
A cluster of multicopper oxidase genes (mco1, mco2, mco3, mco4) from the lignin-degrading basidiomycete Phanerochaete chrysosporium is described. The four genes share the same transcriptional orientation within a 25 kb region. mco1, mco2 and mco3 are tightly grouped, with intergenic regions of 2·3 and 0·8 kb, respectively, whereas mco4 is located 11 kb upstream of mco1. All are transcriptionally active, as shown by RT-PCR. Comparison of cDNAs and the corresponding genomic sequences identified 14–19 introns within each gene. It is often claimed that managed care organizations (MCOs) involve physicians in conflicts of interest by creating financial incentives for physicians to refrain from ordering treatments or making referrals. Such incentives, the argument goes, force the physician to balance the patient's health interests against the MCO's interests and the physician's own financial interest. I assume, for the sake of argument, that such arrangements at least provide reason to believe that physicians in MCOs are involved in conflicts of interest. Two approaches have evolved for dealing with these conflicts. On

Multicopper oxidases (MCOs) comprise different types of enzymes widely distributed in nature with quite diverse functions. Laccases are the most interesting MCOs from a biotechnological point of view, particularly those secreted by ligninolytic Basidiomycota fungi due to their versatility to oxidize lignin and a variety of aromatic substrates. The term “laccase” has been broadly (but sometimes erroneously) applied due to their low sequence homology and some overlapping activities with other MCO groups. We examined the distribution and phylogenetic relationships of MCOs in Basidiomy

A covariation was found between LVMS, EF, ECG changes, and a history indicating a previous myocardial infarction (MI). In a multiple regression analysis the EF covariated with LVMS but not with MCOS and CollS. LVMS indicated a previous MI with at least the same sensitivity and specificity as EF. M

Part III discusses states' non-tort regulations of MCOs and their ineffectiveness in making MCOs accountable for that control. Part IV then argues that the policy behind MCO tort liability makes sense and that Congress should clearly authorize states to impose malpractice liability on MCOs whose decisions negatively impact patients' medical treatment. Although health plans once existed mainly to ensure that patients could pay for care, in recent years managed care organizations (MCOs) have attempted to limit expenditures by exercising significant influence over the kinds and levels of care provided. Some commentators argue that such influence constitutes the practice of medicine, and should subject MCOs to the same medical malpractice torts traditionally brought against physicians. Others hold that MCOs engage only in contract interpretation, and do not literally practice medicine. This Article begins by arguing that traditional common law

Abstract:
Humic acid substances (HAs) in natural soil and sediment environments effect the retention and degradation of insensitive munitions compounds and legacy high explosives (MCs): DNAN, DNi- NH4+, nMNA, NQ, NTO (neutral and anionic forms), TNT, and RDX.A humic acid model compound has been considered using molecular dynamics, thermodynamic integration, and density functional theory to characterize the munition binding ability, ionization potential, and electron affinity compared to that in the water solution. Humic acids bind most compounds and act as both a sink and source for electrons. Ionizatio
