Abstract:
Aim. To assess the biliostatic properties of modern topic hemostatic means and the developed glue composition for medical purpose, used in hepatic surgery in experiment. Materials and methods. The studies, aimed at assessment of the properties of local hemostatic means, were carried out on Wistar rats weighing 178 ± 10 g. The device for determination of leak proofness of hepatic stump with hydropression technique was used. Comparative estimation of elasticity and adhesive strength of hemostatic means, using tension testing machine “REM-10”, was fulfilled. Original polyurethane glue for medical purposes was developed and studied. Results. The glue compositions “Bioglue”, hemostatic sponge “Tachocomb” and original polyurethane composition for medical purposes with adhesive strength > 600 Pa (mm H2O) ( p < 0.05) possess the best adhesive properties. It was established on the basis of experimental data that the glue composition “Bioglue” and polyurethane glue composition have a high adhesive strength, elasticity and resistance to hydropression. Conclusions. 1. Glue compositions possess higher adhesion and endure higher level of pressure as compared with sponges and plates. Original polyurethane composition has maximum adhesive strength, elasticity and hydropression resistance. 2. After application of original polyurethane glue composition on resected liver (in experiment), it is completely lysed in 30-35 days.

Abstract:
Service-oriented architecture (SOA) has emerged as a flexible software design style. SOA focuses on the development, use, and reuse of small, self-contained, independent blocks of code called web services that communicate over the network to perform a certain set of simple tasks. Web services are integrated as composite services to offer complex tasks and to provide the expected services and behavior in addition to fulfilling the clients’ requests according to the service-level agreement (SLA). Web service selection and composition problems have been a significant area of research to provide the expected quality of service (QoS) and to meet the clients’ expectations. This research paper presents a hybrid web service composition model to solve web service selection and composition problems and to optimize web services’ resource utilization using k-means clustering and knapsack algorithms. The proposed model aims to maximize the service compositions’ QoS and minimize the number of web services integrated within the service composition using the knapsack algorithm. Additionally, this paper aims to track the service compositions’ QoS attributes by evaluating and tracking the web services’ QoS using the reward function and, accordingly, use the k-means algorithm to decide to which cluster the web service belongs. The experimental results on a real dataset show the superiority and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in comparison with the results of the state–action–reward–state–action (SARSA) and multistage forward search (MFS) algorithms. The experimental results show that the proposed model reduces the average time of the web service selection and composition processes to 37.02 s in comparison to 47.03 s for the SARSA algorithm and 42.72 s for the MFS algorithm. Furthermore, the average of web services’ resource utilization results increased by 4.68% using the proposed model in comparison to the resource utilization by the SARSA and MFS algorithms. In addition, the experimental results showed that the average number of service compositions using the proposed model improved by 26.04% compared with the SARSA and MFS algorithms.

Abstract:
The subject of this research is such a means of harmonization of composition of the image in a plane as the contrast. The article assesses the possibility and factors of using contrast for increasing the attractiveness of the designed photographic image. The author reviews the examples of photo images with appropriate use of contrast; provides the research data on the perception[WU1] of contrast by human visual system.; explores correlation between contrast and the conditions for a harmonious composition; as well as reviews the connection between the properties of compositional elements of photography and the components of visual perception, discovered by R. Barthes in his work “Camera Lucida”. The author carries out the analysis of photographic images; compares the empirical data on the study of perception of contrast by a human; applies the methods of induction and deduction in analyzing the acquitted results and comparing them with the characteristics of a harmonious composition. The author’s special contribution consists in comparison of the results of empirical research of perception of contrast by a human in the context of dependence of the sensitivity of human visual system on the size of observable alternating contrast lines and the size of the dominant in relation to the image field object of composition. It is proposed to use high contrasts of the elements of detail drawing for reaching harmonization of composition of the designed image elements. [WU1]

Abstract:
This paper proposes a new model for music prediction based on Variational Autoencoders (VAEs). In this work, VAEs are used in a novel way to address two different issues: music representation into the latent space, and using this representation to make predictions of the future note events of the musical piece. This approach was trained with different songs of Handel. As a result, the system can represent the music in the latent space, and make accurate predictions. Therefore, the system can be used to compose new music either from an existing piece or from a random starting point. An additional feature of this system is that a small dataset was used for training. However, results show that the system is able to return accurate representations and predictions on unseen data.

In this paper we present an extension of Bauer's work about u-means. We consider a kind of composition of an admissible function u(x) (described by Bauer) and of a compatible function ϕ(x). This construction allows us to define (u,ϕ)-means. When ϕ(x)=x, the (u,ϕ)-means are the u-means introduced by Bauer. The arithmetic, geometric and harmonic means are special cases.

Full text
Abstract:
The composition of wastewaters collected during one year was evaluated based on the Shannon information entropy. Eleven physico-chemical parameters, biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), total phosphorus (TP), total nitrogen (TN), total suspended solids (TSS), total dissolved salts (TDS), pH, ammonium, phosphate, cyanide and phenol, were determined for their characterization. Entropy of the parameters calculated by means of their histograms decreased in the order: phosphate > ammonium > TDS > TN > pH > BOD > COD > TSS > TP > phenol > cyanide. Entropy weights of the parameters were calculated for the evaluation of wastewater composition by means of the entropy weighted index (EWI) defined according to the simple additive weighting (SAW) model. The EWI values were statistically processed by us to observe temporal wastewater composition changes and were verified by means of the principal component weighted index (PCWI). The EWI values were statistically analyzed by univariate statistics. The outlaying samples were also confirmed by multivariate analysis. The entropy-based approach allowed us to simply evaluate wastewater composition by means of one index instead of several parameters. The main advantage of EWI is the simple histogram-based calculation of entropy with no need of the normal distribution of the used parameters.

Given a formal power seriesg(x)=b0+b1x+b2x2+⋯and a nonunitf(x)=a1x+a2x2+⋯, it is well known that the composition ofgwithf,g(f(x)), is a formal power series. If the formal power seriesfabove is not a nonunit, that is, the constant term offis not zero, the existence of the compositiong(f(x))has been an open problem for many years. The recent development investigated the radius of convergence of a composed formal power series likefabove and obtained some very good results. This note gives a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of the composition of some formal power series. By means of the theorems established in this note, the existence of the composition of a nonunit formal power series is a special case.

It is argued that traditional rules of composition favour fractal forms such as these, and advice on composition, taken from Ruskin, is examined to support this view. Because fractals are ubiquitous in nature their use in design offers a way to appear natural. The lack of fractals in modern architecture may therefore be connected to a lack of interest in picturesque composition.

Abstract:
For over a thousand years, frontispieces for religious scriptures produced in China were based on two basic compositions: the diagonal composition and the symmetrical composition. The two compositions enjoyed persistent currency by offering great flexibility for religious sects to fill in the compositions with their own patron gods and saints. Meanwhile they served different functions: while the diagonal composition illustrates the narrative of the scripture, the symmetrical composition focuses on the main deity and its pantheon, and engages viewer-worshippers in the assembly depicted. Daoism appropriated the two basic compositions and developed its own tradition of scripture frontispieces. This essay analyzes frontispieces for the Scripture of the Jade Emperor as a case study. By portraying deities of different natures in the frontispieces, Daoists specified the means whereby the main deity bestowed divine assistance upon the commissioners of the scripture, and distinguished Daoist scripture frontispieces from their Buddhist counterparts by placing extra emphasis on the frontispieces’ efficacy.

Motivation. Microbiome sequencing allows defining clusters of samples with shared composition. However, this paradigm poorly accounts for samples whose composition is a mixture of cluster-characterizing ones and which therefore lie in between them in the cluster space. This paper addresses unsupervised learning of 2-way clusters. It defines a mixture model that allows 2-way cluster assignment and describes a variant of generalized k-means for learning such a model. Full text
Abstract:
The article provides an analysis of the characteristics of the artistic means of composition used in the architectural form making at the turn of the 21st century, helps to determine their role in the hierarchical structure by the degree of significancefor modern evolutionary processes in architecture. An overall decrease in the influence and effectiveness of the composition means for this period was noted. A significant redistribution of their influence over the basic hierarchical structure was revealed. One of the major problems in the evolution of architecture at the turn of the 21st century is the discrepancy between provisions of the compositional theory of architecture -a traditional means of shaping and findings the of worldwide experimental construction practices. Here, science was facing the new phenomena based on radical changes in the nature of the architectural form and its plasticity, when the clear, unambiguous rules for constructing the form of the basic theory of composition no longer fully carry out their organizing functions. The collision of science with unrecognized processes that appeared in original architectural forms that have no analogue in everything that existed in architecture in the past, created using modern digital technologies, has not yet become the subject of a serious study by modern theory. It should be noted that for almost entire 20th century, architecture relied on the traditional compositional base in the formation of the figurative characteristics of objects (regardless of their stylistic affiliation), considered it universal and did not respond to emerging new trends that had a significant impact on the volume and plastic properties of architectural forms. As the analysis confirms, during this period the foundations ofa new architecture with non-standard form-forming characteristics were laid.Characteristic in the development of architecture at the turn of the century was the desire of individual innovative authors (Kalatrava S., Hadid Z., Libeskind D., Gehri F. O., Maine T., Moss E.O., Koolhaas R. and creative teams: Coop Himelblau, MAD, Snochetta, etc.) create original objects using digital technology, complex geometry and the inclined position of the object or its parts in space. Here, traditional compositional means did not become the basis for the construction of innovative forms. This transformation took place fairly quickly in the late 80-90s of the XX century, which did not allow architectural science to simultaneously comprehend and formulate the corresponding theory, as well as to adjust traditional approaches that can cover the whole variety of emerging ideas and methods of shaping in architecture. In connection with these radical changes in architectural shaping on the cusp of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, a need arose both to rethink the general theory and to clarify the role and place of each means of composition in the hierarchical structure.Among the literary sources that consider the basic principles of the theory of architectural composition, the most important are textbooks and manuals for preparing architects at universities, since they primarily affect the formation of professional thinking. What is the information on the theory of composition in this literature and how much the recommendations contained in them correspond to modern trends and the requirements of architectural shaping? In connection with the task, a number of published in the twentieth -early twenty-first centuries. textbooks and manuals on the theory of composition, intended for the preparation of architects in higher educational institutions of the USSR and countries that formed after its collapse, by such authors: Arauho I., Idak Yu. V., Ikonnikov A. V., Klimenyuk T. M., Krinsky V.F., LamtsovI.V., Lyaskovsky O.I., Malgin V.I., Melodinsky D.L., Mikhailenko V. Є., Stepanov A.V., Tits A.A., Turkus M. A., Chin F. D. K., Shapoval N.G., Yakovlev N.I. et al. [1-14] have been analyzed. These sources present the traditional classical ideas about the construction of forms, highlighting composition as the main means: proportions, rhythm, scale, symmetry, asymmetry, statics, dynamics, contrast, nuance, identity, etc. But if in the XX century their significance was not in, doubt, then in the XXI century -symptoms appeared of a decrease in the influence of the compositional apparatus on the processes of shaping and the role of each of them in the hierarchical structure [21].Considering the importance of composition in the historical and newest period of the development of architecture, we can make sure that despite the fact that in classical architecture all means of composition were necessary for building the form and were applied comprehensively (in modern times only selectively), the order of their significance fixed the priority of proportions and proportionality ( the first group), identified by the ancient Roman architect Vitruvius [16], and did not change throughout the development of European architecture. They are given more attention in treatises and textbooks [1-19]). The rhythm, meter, scale, symmetry, tectonics, statics, contrast, nuance, and identity performed the basic organizing functions (second group). Dynamics, asymmetry, geometric center, center of composition, emphasis, dominant (third group), although they were used in practice, but without special theoretical justification, occupying secondary places and being additional tools (they practically did not receive attention in treatises and textbooks [.. .])
