Abstract:
Merger and acquisition activity is very important economic phenomenon often leading to a permanent organizational changes of single industries or even entire economies. Theoretical part of this article is an attempt to define aggregate size measures which allow gaining quantitative view on its dimensions. Four measures are proposed to assess the size of a merger and acquisition market, namely: announced, backlog, completed and withdrawn volumes. Relationship between these measures is introduced. Their accuracy is dependent on assumed transaction and registration announcement definitions. Limitations of the research based on the commercial vendors’ datasets (for example Thomson Reuters) are presented. In order to overcome these limitations, alternative data collection methodology for merger transactions is derived from legal consolidation procedure defined in The Code of Commercial Partnerships and Companies. This approach allows collecting the information about 3870 merger transactions which have taken place in the period between 1st January 2002 and 31st December 2013 in Poland. Announced, backlog and completed volumes are calculated quarterly. All these quantitative measure exhibit strong seasonality. Besides, their stable growth on Polish market was observed from 2002 till 2011. After 2011 this trend has reverted, but rebound of the backlog volume in the second quarter of 2013 suggests that at least completed volume levels should be higher in the upcoming quarters.

Abstract:
The present manuscript studies and classifies the different performance variables and measures of hotels, recorded in international scientific journals. Through the Content Analysis of 79 scientific papers, this manuscript reaches a main conclusion regarding hotel performance indicators measurement. Although researchers have acknowledged that the concept of hotel performance is complex and manifold (and as such it is depicted and assessed with various and diverse indicators and groups of indicators in international scientific literature), still the majority of them measure hotel performance in a way that does not express its multidimensional nature in their studies as they focus on a relatively small number of the above indicators. This paper mainly contributes to further classifying hotel performance indicators and introduces a novel codification that allows researchers to better understand indicators and hotel executives to use them more effectively.

Abstract:
Background/Aims: This study aims to explore the effects of microRNA-214-5p (miR-214-5p) on the invasion and migration of Hepatocellular Carcinoma cells (HCC). Methods: Hepatocellular Carcinoma tissues and adjacent normal tissues from 44 hepatocellular carcinoma patients were prepared for this study. The HepG2 and BEL-7402 cells were transfected with miR-214-5p mimic and inhibitor. qRT-PCR was performed to detect the expressions of miR-214-5p. Transwell assays were used to detect the invasion and migration assays in HepG2 and BEL-7402 cells. A dual-luciferase reporter assay was conducted to examine the effect of miR-214-5p on Wiskott-Aldrich Syndrome Like (WASL/ N-WASP). Western blot and qRT-PCR were used to measure the expressions of the E-cadherin, N-cadherin and Vimentin proteins. Transwell chamber assays were performed to detect cell invasion and migration. Results: Compared with normal tissues, HCC tissues demonstrated significantly lower expression of miR-214-5p. Overexpression of miR-214-5p significantly inhibited the migration and invasion of HCC cells and inhibition of miR-214-5p promoted the migration and invasion. Additionally, miR-214-5p suppressed the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Further study showed WASL was a putative target gene of miR-214-5p. Up-regulating the expression of WASL could reverse the inhibition effect of miR-214-5p on invasion and migration. Conclusion: Our data suggested that miR-214-5p inhibited the invasion and migration of HepG2 and BEL-7402 by targeting WASL in Hepatocellular carcinoma.

Abstract:
The aim of this study is to detect the radioactivity of radionuclides and measure the specific activities and the uranium concentration in (19) samples of crude oil and oil waste were brought from two oil locations Dora refinery, Bijie refinery. The measurements in this study were done by using two techniques: 1- Gamma rays spectroscopy system was used to measure the specific activity for radionuclides. This system is consist of high purity of germanium detector (HPGe) with personal computer as multi channel analyzer (MCA) that computerized to plot the radioactive spectrum and compute the specific activities of the radionuclides. There are seven radionuclides are detected: (Bi-214, Ra-226, TI-208, Bi-212, Pb-212, K-40, and Cs-137), these radionuclides included; two radionuclides (Bi-214,Ra-226) belong to the U-238 series, three radionuclides (TI-208, Bi-212, Pb-212) belong to Th-232series, one natural radionuclide (K-40), and one artificial radionuclide (Cs-137). For Dora refinery samples, the averages of specific activities of (Bi-214, Ra-226) were (7.79, 16.08) Bq/kg respectively, the averages of specific activities of (TI-208, Bi-212, Pb-212) were (7.95,4.05,5.75) Bq/kg , the average of specific activities of (Cs-137) was (0.64) Bq/kg , the average of specific activities of (K-40) was (99.3) Bq/kg. For Bijie refinery samples, the average of specific activities of (Bi-214) was (0.39) Bq/kg, the averages specific activities of (Bi-212, Pb-212) were (0.02,0.01) Bq/kg, the average of specific activities of (K-40) was (2.28) Bq/kg , and three radionuclides (Ra-226, TI-208, and Cs-137) were not appeared in Bijie samples. 2- solid state nuclear track detectors technique (SSNTDs), the uranium concentration determined by using CR-39 track detector and fission fragment track technique, the nuclear reaction used as source of uranium fission fragment is U-235 (n-f) obtained by the bombardment of U-235with thermal neutrons emitted from (Am-Be) neutron source with flux (5000 n/cm2.s) for seven days, the concentration were calculated by comparison with the standard samples. The uranium concentration in Dora refinery samples were ranged between (0.95-3.34) ppm with average (2.03) ppm for solid samples and (1.25) ppm for liquid samples. The uranium concentration in Bijie refinery samples were ranged from (0.42-1.46) ppm with average (0.55) ppm in the solid samples and (1.24) ppm in the liquid samples, these results are agreement with the permissible limit from IAEA, the permissible limit is (1mSv/y) for the public.

Abstract:
Background Anti-Xa monitoring is utilized to measure the extent of anticoagulation in certain patient populations receiving enoxaparin. It is essential to accurately obtain this pharmacodynamic marker for safe and effective anticoagulation management. Objectives To determine the frequency of correctly drawn anti-Xa concentrations in accordance with predefined institutional criteria and to determine the number of dose adjustments implemented based on incorrectly drawn anti-Xa concentrations. Methods This was a retrospective, single-center, cohort study among adult patients who received treatment doses of enoxaparin with measured anti-Xa concentrations. Patients were excluded if they were pregnant, on hemodialysis, or received prophylactic dosing. Anti-Xa levels were defined as correctly measured if they were drawn 3 to 5 hours after the dose during steady state concentrations. Descriptive statistics were performed and analyzed via SPSS software. Results Overall, 203 patients were reviewed and 59 patients with 74 anti-Xa levels were included. The majority of anti-Xa levels (57/74; 77%) were drawn incorrectly and often resulted in collection of repeat anti-Xa samples. There were 12 documented dose adjustments and approximately 42% (5/12) were based on incorrectly drawn anti-Xa levels. Anti-Xa levels were within target range approximately 45% of the time. Conclusions Enoxaparin anti-Xa concentrations are frequently drawn incorrectly and dose adjustments are often performed based on these unsupported anti-Xa levels. This may present a potential risk to compromise patient safety.

Abstract:
Aim: Establishing an optimal diagnostic policy for patients with respiratory tract infections, at the emergency department (ED) of a university hospital in The Netherlands. Methods: Adult patients were sampled at admission, during the respiratory season (2014–2015). The FilmArray-RP was implemented at the clinical virology laboratory. Diagnostics were provided from 8 am to 10 pm, weekends included. Results: 436/492 (89%) results were available while patients were still at the ED. Median TAT from admission to test result was 165 min (IQR: 138–214). No antibiotics were prescribed in 94/207 (45%) patients who tested positive for a virus. 185/330 (56%) hospitalized patients did not need admission with isolation measures. The value-based measure, expressed in euro–hour (€h), increased to tenfold compared with previous policy. Conclusion: An optimal policy is essential for patient management, by providing timely, reliable diagnostics.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to further examine the utility of Mitchell, Holtom, Lee, Sablynski, and Erez’s (2001) job embeddedness construct. The authors tested a revised version of their original multi-item scale, as well as a new global-item measure. Data were gathered from two independent samples (intercollegiate softball coaches,n= 214, and athletic department employees,n= 189). Results from both studies provide the strongest support for the global-item measure. The convergent, discriminant, and predictive validity of the measure was established. Results demonstrate the efficacy of the job embeddedness construct in explaining why people choose to stay in their organizations.

BACKGROUND: Percent time in therapeutic range (TTR) and INR variability are both used to measure anticoagulation control with warfarin. TTR measures anticoagulation intensity, while INR variability measures anticoagulation stability; both predict definitive clinical outcomes such as stroke, major hemorrhage. Here, we examine whether an intermediate composite measure (ICOMO) predicts warfarin associated complications better than each measure separately. We also examine how the choice of measure changes the ranking order of anticoagulation clinics (ACCs) in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) healthcare system. METHODS: We calculated TTR and INR variability for the study sample (N=130,897 patients) from 100 VHA ACCs. We constructed ICOMO using an equally weighted method, adding standardized TTR to standardized log-transformed INR variability. We used a subset of patients anticoagulated for atrial fibrillation (N=40,404) and divided them into quintiles based on their level of control, for each anticoagulation measure. We calculated the Hazard ratios for ischemic stroke and major bleeding and compared the ability of our independent variables (TTR, log INR variability, ICOMO) to predict each outcome. We measured mean observed value (O) and mean expected value (E) for each clinic, after adjusting for important clinical and demographic variables, for each anticoagulation measure. We identified outlier anticoagulation clinics if O was one standard deviation different from its corresponding E. We measured Kappa score and Pearson correlation coefficients when ranking sites according to each anticoagulation measure. RESULTS: ICOMO predicted ischemic stroke better than TTR and log INR variability in all quintiles. ICOMO and TTR predicted major bleeding similarly except in the second-best quintile; but both measures were better than log INR variability in all quintiles. Kappa scores identifying outlier and non-outlier clinics among our three profiling measures were moderate between ICOMO and its components (0.59 for TTR and 0.54 for log INR variability) but was weak between TTR and log INR variability (0.025) CONCLUSION: ICOMO predicts ischemic stroke better over TTR and log INR variability alone but it is only better than the latter in predicting major bleeding. The choice of which measure to use for clinic profiling changes clinic rankings considerably.

Abstract:
This study developed and validated the Berke Prenatal Anxiety Questionnaire, created to measure prenatal anxiety. Scores from 301 pregnant women in various stages of pregnancy were used to determine the internal consistency of the Berke Prenatal Anxiety Questionnaire. These women were recruited in obstetric offices and hospitals across California. Coefficient alpha for the total scale was.87. Factor analysis showed that the items did not really cluster together in three groups as expected. Two approaches were undertaken to develop a new definition, in order to revise the scale. Three one-way ANOVA with trimester of pregnancy as the between subjects variable were calculated on the total scale and revised scales scores from the questionnaire and no significant differences were found. This questionnaire needs additional validation though the creation of new items characterizing the revised definitions. Eventually, in a revised form, this questionnaire can be used in additional research and in a clinical setting to identify pregnant women experiencing high levels of maladaptive prenatal anxiety. Efforts could then be made to reduce their anxiety, which can benefit both the mother and her infant.

In recent years increased emphasis has been placed on improving seat comfort in automobiles. This is partly due to research showing that prolonged driving is associated with increased risk of musculoskeletal disorders, but largely because driver comfort is now viewed as an increasingly important aspect of the competitive marketing of vehicles. Driving is firmly cemented as a major part of most people s daily life across the world and people are now spending more time in their vehicles than ever before. As urban congestion continues to rise, commuting distances and durations will progressively increase, subjecting drivers to the risks of long duration driving more often. Consequently the automotive industry has invested in designing seats that perform better under increased usage durations and ergonomics has played a vital role in the design of new seats. However, the ability to design a successful seat relies heavily on the capacity to accurately evaluate the comfort of a vehicle seat and one major issue that has been highlighted with the current state of automotive ergonomics research is the standardisation of comfort evaluation techniques. This research aimed to tackle these issues by investigating the effects of long duration driving on discomfort and the range factors associated with driver discomfort. Furthermore, the ultimate goal of this research was develop and evaluate a novel objective measure of driver discomfort that focused on driver seat fidgets and movements (SFMs) with the aim of standardising discomfort evaluation within the automotive industry. Three laboratory studies and one field observation were conducted to address these aims whereby subjective and objective evaluations of discomfort were conducted during long term driving (ranging from 60 - 140 minutes). The results determined that a measure of driver SFMs can be effectively implemented into long duration driving trials to evaluate the effects of long term driving and vibration exposure on driver discomfort and subsequently used to make accurate predictions of overall discomfort. Large positive correlations have been determined between measures of SFMs and subjective ratings of overall discomfort (r2 > 0.9, P < 0.05) and the SFM method has been successfully repeated under a range of driving conditions. Driver seat fidget and movement (SFM) frequency is shown to significantly increase congruently with subjective ratings over the duration of a long term drive as drivers seek to cope with increased discomfort. It is proposed that drivers will record movements in the vehicle seat when discomfort reaches a threshold that is consciously or unconsciously perceived and as the duration of driving accrues, drivers will reach this threshold with increased frequency. A measure of both SFM frequency and total accumulative SFMs have been shown to accurately predict discomfort ratings and provides the basis for discomfort evaluations to be made via remote monitoring, removing the need for subjective assessment. During a long term drive, there becomes a point upon which improvements in seat design become ineffective as extended duration driving will result in discomfort regardless of how well the seat has been designed. It was shown that drivers will move in the vehicle seat to cope with increased discomfort and in addition, another method of combatting the negative effects of long term driving was investigated. Subjective and objective evaluation determined that breaks from driving will reduce discomfort both immediately and upon completion of a long term drive. Furthermore, these benefits were increased when drivers left the vehicle seat as discomfort was reset when drivers took a 10 minute walk. Walking during a break from driving can be considered the ultimate SFM. Drivers are recommended to plan breaks from driving when conducting a long duration journey in order to minimise discomfort and when taking a break, drivers should take a walk rather than remain seated in the vehicle.

Abstract:
The query optimiser in a database management system (DBMS) is responsible for �nding a good order in which to execute the operators in a given query. However, in practice the query optimiser does not usually guarantee to �nd the best plan. This is often due to the non-availability of precise statistical data or inaccurate assumptions made by the optimiser. In this thesis we propose a robust approach to logical query optimisation that takes into account the unreliability in database statistics during the optimisation process. In particular, we study the ordering problem for selection operators and for join operators, where selectivities are modelled as intervals rather than exact values. As a measure of optimality, we use a concept from decision theory called minmax regret optimisation (MRO). When using interval selectivities, the decision problem for selection operator ordering turns out to be NP-hard. After investigating properties of the problem and identifying special cases which can be solved in polynomial time, we develop a novel heuristic for solving the general selection ordering problem in polynomial time. Experimental evaluation of the heuristic using synthetic data, the Star Schema Benchmark and real-world data sets shows that it outperforms other heuristics (which take an optimistic, pessimistic or midpoint approach) and also produces plans whose regret is on average very close to optimal. The general join ordering problem is known to be NP-hard, even for exact selectivities. So, for interval selectivities, we restrict our investigation to sets of join operators which form a chain and to plans that correspond to left-deep join trees. We investigate properties of the problem and use these, along with ideas from the selection ordering heuristic and other algorithms in the literature, to develop a polynomial-time heuristic tailored for the join ordering problem. Experimental evaluation of the heuristic shows that, once again, it performs better than the optimistic, pessimistic and midpoint heuristics. In addition, the results show that the heuristic produces plans whose regret is on average even closer to the optimal than for selection ordering.

Abstract:

In this thesis, which consists of five papers (A,B,C,D,E), we are interested in questions related to quadrature domains. Among the problems studied are the possibility of changing the type of measure in a quadrature identity (from complex to real and from real signed to positive), properties of partial balayage, which in a sense can be used to generate quadrature domains, and mother bodies which are closely related to inversion of partial balayage.

These three questions are discussed in papers A,D respectively B.

The first of these questions (when trying to go from real signed to positive measures) leads to the study of approximation in the cone of positive harmonic functions. These questions are closely related to properties of the harmonic measure on the Martin boundary, and this relationship leads to the study of harmonic measures on ideal boundaries in paper E. Some other approaches to the same problem also lead to some extent to the study of properties of classical balayage in paper C.

Oil & gas companies in Indonesia continue to struggle in executing their projects due to highly volatile oil price, lower demand and marginal field developments. Consequently, these companies need to be as prudent as possible in investing their limited resources to the selected projects in their portfolio. In order to face this challenge, MedcoEnergi developed a tool called Medco Project Excellence Process (MPEP) Scorecard to effectively measure the maturity of all of its major projects using a quantitative approach. The application of this tool can greatly help MedcoEnergi in deciding which projects to execute or which projects to hold, and therefore enabled the company to maximize its returns from its oil and gas projects portfolio. The paper presents the design of the MPEP Scorecard and how the tool is applied. The application of the tool is integrated with the gate review which is held when the project wants to proceed to its next stage. The project assurance committee which is a specialized team consist of experts from engineering, subsurface, drilling, commercial, etc., will review the projects deliverables during this gate review and the tool will allow them to assign a “score” based on their assessment and their discussion with the project team. There will be an individual score for each discipline and these scores will be used as inputs to calculate a single (overall) score that can accurately represents the project’s maturity. Currently, MPEP Scorecard has already been applied to the major capital projects in MedcoEnergi and the results have been presented to the senior management. Based on their feedbacks, it is agreed that the tool can give a much clearer picture on the project’s current condition, significantly help them in making the go/no go decision and enables them to create the most optimum investment strategy.

Abstract:
Two flow instabilities involving a bifurcated flow pattern were discovered for the throughflow jet in a stepped labyrinth seal. A bifurcation stability map was developed showing which combinations of tooth clearance and step height occur in which of the three flow regimes. These instabilities, along with self-sustained flow oscillations, were experimentally explored to obtain a preliminary understanding of their effect on seal leakage. Computer-captured visualization videos were used to measure the throughflow angle oscillation amplitudes, frequencies and mean flow trajectory angles. For small tooth clearances, the intermediate step height case, which exhibited the sharpest flow deflection and largest oscillation amplitude, gave the highest leakage resistance. Further, for larger tooth clearances, the large step height cases, located farthest on the stability map into the Oscillatory Bifurcated regime, gave the highest resistance. Thus, for large clearances the oscillating nature of the Oscillatory Bifurcation flow pattern appears to give enhanced leakage resistance via increased turbulent mixing.

A NiCrAl-type foil (alloy 214) was selected for evaluation for heat exchanger applications for a concentrated solar power (CSP) system. Due to the formation of a protective alumina surface oxide, this class of alloys can operate at higher temperatures than conventional stainless steels or even Ni-base alloys, such as alloy 625. Laboratory testing is being conducted at 1000° and 1050°C in dry air using 10 h thermal cycles in order to simulate the CSP duty cycle at a high temperature to accelerate the degradation process. Mass change data showed indications of degradation of the foils with exposures up to 8,000 h. Foil specimens also were stopped after 2,400 h to measure the loss of Al in the foil as a method to predict lifetime. Previous lifetime modeling results for 1h cycles in air with 10%H2O provided an initial basis to predict lifetime for this material to >100,000 h operating times as a function of foil thickness and exposure temperature for this application.

Diversity is a relative concept, which has been applied to a number of domains, such as culture and biology. A simple measure of diversity is derived by drawing from the domains of biological and cultural diversity, as well as, information retrieval for its measurement capabilities. This domain independent diversity measure can be used to determine diversity between entities in any collection that can be expressed as features and their values. The measurement can be applied to a single feature or to any combination of features. The entities may be, among other things, words in a document, biological species in an environment, people in an organization, or records in a data set. This diversity measure provides a single value for entities in their collection; measuring the relative diversity of the entity with respect to the other entities in the collection. This tool can be used to compare and contrast diversity between collections of entities, or within the same collection over time.

It is planned to ensure the balanced development of the country's territory, creating and maintaining a healthy and harmonious human habitat and natural elements of the countryside and ensuring overall ecological stability by means of the agri-environmental protection activity measures RDP. As part of the EU's rural development policy, the tool for improving agri-environmental and climatic conditions has been continuously improved. The paper analyzes the differences between the 2007 -2013 RDP measure „Agri-environmental payments” and 2014-2020 RDP measure "Agri-environment and climate". Comparison of the 4 directions of the 2007-2013 and 2014-2020 RDP measure "Agri-environment and climate" according to the individual criteria for each direction indicate that the program rules are adjusted in a beneficial direction for both parties in close cooperation between the responsible authorities and the beneficiaries. In 2007-2013 it has been established that RDP measure "Agri-environmental payments" covered a much wider range of directions, and in 2014-2020, the RDP measure "Agri-environment and climate" had a slightly narrower range of directions, but more specific and clearer rules. However, the desired results can not be achieved. The greatest benefit of the measure is the improved biodiversity of the country. The main driving force for agri-environmental measures is financial support.

Wildlife-vehicle collisions (WVCs) are a significant component of overall crashes in the US and Canada. Roads and their traffic also create partial or total barriers to the movement of wildlife, both large and small. There are several well-studied proven mitigation measures that significantly reduce WVCs, provide for safe animal passage across roads, and maintain habitat connectivity. Highly effective measures, such as overpasses and underpasses with fencing can reduce large animal WVCs by over 80% – 100% on average; yet these structures can be costly and there is room for improvement in their design, the use of new materials, adding elements that improve their use by smaller animal species, such as reptiles and amphibians and improving their cost effectiveness. This Transportation Pooled Fund Study, TPF-5(358) (TPF Study), allowed researchers to evaluate the latest information on the effectiveness of 24 different highway mitigation measures designed to decrease collisions with large wildlife, large feral and domestic animals. Also reviewed were these same measures’ ability to protect small mammals, reptiles, and amphibians from collisions. The TPF Study also explored the effectiveness of the 24 measures ability to maintain or enhance habitat connectivity. It conducted 11 different research projects that variously explored a) the costs and benefits of animal-vehicle collisions and the mitigation measures that seek to reduce them, b) the ecological effectiveness of various mitigation measures, and 3) new designs for crossing structures for a variety of species. The project developed a manual of best practices and concluded with a final report.

The US military is interested in replacing TNT (2,4,6-trinitrotoluene) and RDX (1,3,5-hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine) with DNAN (2,4-di-nitroanisole) and NTO (3-nitro-1,2,4-triazol-5-one), which have similar explosive characteristics but are less likely to detonate unintentionally. Although these replacements are good explosives, basic information about their fate and transport was needed to evaluate their environmental impact and life-cycle management. This project measured their dissolution, photodegradation, and how aqueous solutions interact with soils, data critical to determining exposure potential and, consequently, risk.

Abstract:
Channel Islands National Park (CHIS) has conducted long-term ecological monitoring of the kelp forests around San Miguel, Santa Rosa, Santa Cruz, Anacapa and Santa Barbara Islands since 1982. The original permanent transects were established at 16 sites between 1981 and 1986 with the first sampling beginning in 1982, this being the 33rd year of monitoring. An additional site, Miracle Mile, was established at San Miguel Island in 2001 by a commercial fisherman with assistance from the park. Miracle Mile was partially monitored from 2002 to 2004, and then fully monitored (using all KFM protocols) since 2005. In 2005, 16 additional permanent sites were established to collect baseline data from inside and adjacent to four marine reserves that were established in 2003. Sampling results from all 33 sites mentioned above are included in this report. Funding for the Kelp Forest Monitoring Program (KFM) in 2014 was provided by the National Park Service (NPS). The 2014 monitoring efforts utilized 49 days of vessel time to conduct 1,040 dives for a total of 1,059 hours of bottom time. Population dynamics of a select list of 71 “indicator species” (consisting of taxa or categories of algae, fish, and invertebrates) were measured at the 33 permanent sites. In addition, population dynamics were measured for all additional species of fish observed at the sites during the roving diver fish count. Survey techniques follow the CHIS Kelp Forest Monitoring Protocol Handbook (Davis et al. 1997) and an update to the sampling protocol handbook currently being developed (Kushner and Sprague, in progress). The techniques utilize SCUBA and surface-supplied-air to conduct the following monitoring protocols: 1 m2 quadrats, 5 m2 quadrats, band transects, random point contacts, fish transects, roving diver fish counts, video transects, size frequency measurements, and artificial recruitment modules. Hourly temperature data were collected using remote temperature loggers at 32 sites, the exception being Miracle Mile where there is no temperature logger installed. This annual report contains a brief description of each site including any notable observations or anomalies, a summary of methods used, and monitoring results for 2014. All the data collected during 2014 can be found in the appendices and in an Excel workbook on the NPS Integrated Resource Management Applications (IRMA) portal. In the 2013 annual report (Sprague et al. 2020) several changes were made to the appendices. Previously, annual report density and percent cover data tables only included the current year’s data. Now, density and percent cover data are presented in graphical format and include all years of available monitoring data. Roving diver fish count (RDFC), fish size frequency, natural habitat size frequency, and Artificial Recruitment Module (ARM) size frequency data are now stored on IRMA at https://irma.nps.gov/DataStore/Reference/Profile/2259651. The temperature data graphs in Appendix L include the same graphs that were used in past reports, but include additional violin plot sections that compare monthly means from the current year to past years. In addition to the changes listed above, the layout of the discussion section was reordered by species instead of by site. The status of kelp forests differed among the five park islands. This is a result of a combination of factors including but not limited to, oceanography, biogeography and associated differences in species abundance and composition, as well as sport and commercial fishing pressure. All 33 permanent sites were established in areas that had or were historically known to have had kelp forests in the past. In 2014, 15 of the 33 sites monitored were characterized as developing kelp forest, kelp forest or mature kelp forest. In addition, three sites were in a state of transition. Abstract:
Objective. To understand the evidence base for care interventions, implementation strategies, and between-provider communication tools among children with special healthcare needs (CSHCN) transitioning from pediatric to adult medical care services. Data sources. We searched Ovid MEDLINE, Ovid Embase, the Cochrane Central trials (CENTRAL) registry, and CINAHL to identify studies through September 10, 2021. We conducted grey literature searches to identify additional resources relevant to contextual questions. Review methods. Using a mixed-studies review approach, we searched for interventions or implementation strategies for transitioning CSHCN from pediatric to adult services. Two investigators screened abstracts and full-text articles of identified references for eligibility. Eligible studies included randomized controlled trials, quasi-experimental observational studies, and mixed-method studies of CSHCN, their families, caregivers, or healthcare providers. We extracted basic study information from all eligible studies and grouped interventions into categories based on disease conditions. We summarized basic study characteristics for included studies and outcomes for studies assessed as low to medium risk of bias using RoB-2. Results. We identified 9,549 unique references, 440 of which represented empirical research; of these, 154 (16 major disease categories) described or examined a care transition intervention with enough detail to potentially be eligible for inclusion in any of the Key Questions. Of these, 96 studies met comparator criteria to undergo risk of bias assessment; however only 9 studies were assessed as low or medium risk of bias and included in our analytic set. Low-strength evidence shows transition clinics may not improve hemoglobin A1C levels either at 12 or 24 months in youth with type 1 diabetes mellitus compared with youth who received usual care. For all other interventions and outcomes, the evidence was insufficient to draw meaningful conclusions because the uncertainty of evidence was too high. Some approaches to addressing barriers include dedicating time and resources to support transition planning, developing a workforce trained to care for the needs of this population, and creating structured processes and tools to facilitate the transition process. No globally accepted definition for effective transition of care from pediatric to adult services for CSHCN exists; definitions are often drawn from principles for transitions, encompassing a broad set of clinical aspects and other factors that influence care outcomes or promote continuity of care. There is also no single measure or set of measures consistently used to evaluate effectiveness of transitions of care. The literature identifies a limited number of available training and other implementation strategies focused on specific clinical specialties in targeted settings. The IM constituents and IMX-101 were irradiated in a UV photo-reactor and then administered to Daphnia pulex in acute (48 h) exposures comparing toxicities relative to the parent materials. UV-degradation of DNAN had little effect on mortality whereas mortality for UV-degraded NTO and NQ increased by factors of 40.3 and 1240, making UV-degraded NQ the principle driver of toxicity when IMX-101 is UV-degraded. Toxicity investigations for specific products formed during UV-degradation of NQ, confirmed greater toxicity than the parent NQ for degradation products. Summation of the individual toxic units for the complete set of individually measured UV-degradation products identified for NQ only accounted for 25% of the overall toxicity measured in the exposures to the UV-degraded NQ product mixture. Given the underestimation of toxicity using the sum toxic units for the individually measured UV-degradation products of NQ, we conclude that: (1) other unidentified NQ degradation products contributed principally to toxicity and/or (2) synergistic toxicological interactions occurred among the NQ degradation product mixture that exacerbated toxicity.

The past decade has witnessed a surge in international interest in the importance of tax morale. This is often defined, broadly, as taxpayer’s ‘non-pecuniary motivations for tax compliance’ (Luttmer and Singhal 2014: 150) – as a key component of strategies for strengthening tax compliance in lower-income countries. Whereas classic models of tax compliance focused on the importance of the threat of enforcement and the cost of compliance in shaping compliance, compliance decisions are also significantly shaped by non-pecuniary motivations. They can, for example, be an intrinsic commitment to paying taxes, expectations of reciprocity from government, or broader social norms. This has been reflected in growing interest in strategies for strengthening tax morale in order to encourage quasi-voluntary tax compliance (Prichard et al. 2019). A significant part of this literature has relied on surveys to measure taxpayer attitudes towards tax compliance (tax morale), and, in turn, to identify factors associated with higher or lower levels of reported tax morale.

Abstract:
COVID-19, caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, was first reported in China in December 2019. The virus has spread rapidly around the world and is currently responsible for 500 million reported cases and over 6.4 million deaths. A risk assessment published by the Foods Standards Agency (FSA) in 2020 (Opens in a new window) concluded that it was very unlikely that you could catch coronavirus via food. This assessment included the worst-case assumption that, if food became contaminated during production, no significant inactivation of virus would occur before consumption. However, the rate of inactivation of virus on products sold at various temperatures was identified as a key uncertainty, because if inactivation does occur more rapidly in some situations, then a lower risk may be more appropriate. This project was commissioned to measure the rate of inactivation of virus on the surface of various types of food and food packaging, reducing that uncertainty. The results will be used to consider whether the assumption currently made in the risk assessment remains appropriate for food kept at a range of temperatures, or whether a lower risk is more appropriate for some. We conducted a laboratory-based study, artificially contaminating infectious SARS-CoV-2 virus onto the surfaces of foods and food packaging. We measured how the amount of infectious virus present on those surfaces declined over time, at a range of temperatures and relative humidity levels, reflecting typical storage conditions. We tested broccoli, peppers, apple, raspberry, cheddar cheese, sliced ham, olives, brine from the olives, white and brown bread crusts, croissants and pain au chocolat. The foods tested were selected as they are commonly sold loose on supermarket shelves or uncovered at deli counters or market stalls, they may be difficult to wash, and they are often consumed without any further processing i.e. cooking. The food packaging materials tested were polyethylene terephthalate (PET1) trays and bottles; aluminium cans and composite drinks cartons. These were selected as they are the most commonly used food packaging materials or consumption of the product may involve direct mouth contact with the packaging. Results showed that virus survival varied depending on the foods and food packaging examined. In several cases, infectious virus was detected for several hours and in some cases for several days, under some conditions tested. For a highly infectious agent such as SARS-CoV-2, which is thought to be transmissible by touching contaminated surfaces and then the face, this confirmation is significant. For most foods tested there was a significant drop in levels of virus contamination over the first 24 hours. However, for cheddar cheese and sliced ham, stored in refrigerated conditions and a range of relative humidity, the virus levels remained high up to a week later, when the testing period was stopped. Both cheddar cheese and sliced ham have high moisture, protein and saturated fat content, possibly offering protection to the virus. When apples and olives were tested, the virus was inactivated to the limit of detection very quickly, within an hour, when the first time point was measured. We suggest that chemicals, such as flavonoids, present in the skin of apples and olives inactivate the virus. The rate of viral decrease was rapid, within a few hours, for croissants and pain au chocolat. These pastries are both coated with a liquid egg wash, which may have an inhibitory effect on the virus. Food packaging materials tested had variable virus survival. For all food packaging, there was a significant drop in levels of virus contamination over the first 24 hours, in all relative humidity conditions and at both 6°C and 21°C; these included PET1 bottles and trays, aluminium cans and composite drinks cartons.

On 8 June 2020, the Government of Tanzania officially declared the country to be free of COVID-19 and all restrictions have since been lifted. As of 3 December 2020, Tanzania had only 509 confirmed cases of the virus and 21 deaths. Nevertheless, neighbouring countries are still facing the threat of the pandemic, all of which are key trading partners. Their continuing COVID-19 control measures have disrupted regional and domestic agricultural markets and affected local livelihoods and food systems. This study analysed the resulting impacts in those systems in several rice-producing communities in Morogoro Region, south-western Tanzania.

Using data from the latest edition of the Italian Time Use Survey (ITUS, 2013–2014), we analyse 31,309 childcare episodes to investigate the relationship betweenmultitasking (i.e., the combination of childcare with housework tasks) and parents’enjoyment of the time they spent on childcare, with a gender perspective. To this end,we rely on information from the episode enjoyment scores the respondents used toevaluate the degree of (un)pleasantness associated with the different activities theyrecorded in a daily diary. These episode enjoyment scores are a novelty in the ITUS,and provide a unique measure of the respondents’ momentary assessments of theirsubjective well-being. Our results highlight the existence of a negative relationshipbetween multitasking and parental well-being when spending time on childcare forboth mothers and fathers, regardless of the nature of the childcare activity theywere performing (i.e., routine or recreational childcare). Our findings add to priorresearch by shedding new light on the role of multitasking as a relevant contextualcharacteristic of care that affects the well-being of fathers, as well as of mothers.
