Critical illness is an aetiologically and clinically heterogeneous syndrome that is characterised by organ failure and immune dysfunction. Mortality in critically ill patients is driven by inflammation-associated organ damage and a profound vulnerability to nosocomial infection. Continuous eddy covariance measurements were conducted for a 125 day period, throughout the 2007 growing season, in a northern Alberta peatland. Significant diurnal and seasonal variation in methane fluxes were observed.
