Full textThis research set out to identify, understand and interpret the political and educational role of the intellectual monitors who worked in the Grassroots Education Movement (Goiás MEB) on the Serrinha farm in Itauçu, Goiás, from 1961 to 1966, and assemble contributions for the debate on the Education of Youth and Adults (EJA) occurring in Brazil and Goiás. It is based on data from: a) interviews given by three of the main intellectual monitors who participated in the Movement, two of which were given to the author of this thesis and the third to another researcher; b) reports of the Movement itself; c) the existing literature on the subject. As a theoretical framework it uses the writings of Paulo Sérgio Rouanet (interpreter of Gramsci), Gramsci and Paulo Freire. It is based on the theme discussed by Fávero, Peixoto Filho and Rodrigues, especially, and is divided into five parts. The Introduction presents the goals, object of the study, and the theoretical and analytical references for the survey data, and also the methodological and technical procedures for the production of the targeted knowledge. Chapter I presents the political and social context of Goiás and Brazil during the first six years of the 1960s; Chapter II broadly reclaims the history of MEB at national and Goiás levels; Chapter III presents the general historical-geographical, economic, political and social context of the municipality in which Goiás MEB was set up, while Chapter IV explains the political and educational role played by the intellectual monitors of the Movement, in an effort to collate contributions from the experience in order to enrich participation in the discussions taking place on EJA in Brazil today. It could be seen that the methodological process used by the Movement for the formation of its intellectual monitors was that of ongoing dialogue between themselves, the Central Team (CT) and the leaders who worked daily with the community. This dialogue, conscientization and politicization sought by Goiás MEB were carried out through various activities: lectures on the radio, theater, festivals, prayer meetings, theoretical reflections on topics of interest to the community and the study of texts. This occurred through meetings and encounters previously organized by the Movement s CT with the participation of community leaders. According to the interviewees, through the use of a methodological teaching process which created tensions but at the same time shed inhibitions, the Movement led to the acquisition of knowledge while politicizing and valorizing the participants, and contributed towards enhancing the work potential of the leaders in terms of the community. From the data produced by the study, this qualitative research showed that the role played by the intellectual monitor was that of monitoring, explaining, solving the problems of students on the school broadcast; bringing people together in the community to address the problems which arose during debates and contributing towards finding solutions to these problems, by interacting with the community and with the CT, discussing and participating in the planning of the educational process of the school radio, the students and the community, and also mediating the relationship between community and the CT. In summary, the role of the intellectual monitor went beyond that of mere transmitter of the knowledge drawn up by the CT and passed on by the teacher-broadcaster to the school radio students. The data collected would imply that, although the CT passed on the contents to the intellectual monitors who, in turn, passed them on to the students, that the CT knew the theory and not the monitors, in practice (the interviewees themselves acknowledged this) the methodological procedures of the activities proposed by the Movement (dialogue, discussions, meetings and encounters) ended up making for the effective participation of the intellectual monitors and, consequently, the other participants in the construction of the experience.

Full textIn this On the radio waves: popular culture, peasants and the Basic Education Movement we analyze the participation of peasants of the Brazilian northeastern region in the Basic Education Movement. The focus of this thesis is to demonstrate how the labors involved with broadcast schools have elaborated actions for maintaining and spreading the schools in their communities, in order to achieve the necessary means to improve their way of life. Peasants of the Basic Education Movement have been coadjuvant of the modernizing catholic proposition of the early 1960s, by means of quite peculiar political and cultural representations. Some of these representations were: a meaning for the school, a role for the union and for the political participation, precepts of the land use rights and labor rights, and the multiple meanings of the radio as a mass communication, information and leisure medium. This study intends to stress that the actions - and the political enrollment - of the northeastern peasant could not ever be separated from the modernizing process. The connection can be observed in different social movements of the period, such as the Basic Education Movement, rural unions, the Catholic Agrarian Youth and the MCP. In this sense, we consider that, if the Brazilian modernization was a guideline for the institutions, political organisms and parties for the social movement, such a modernization was a guideline of demands based on elements of material life. Those elements included, by that time, the agrarian reform, the educational issue and labor urgencies

Full textThis works concerns the measurements of nanoparticles size by Atomic Force Mirocrsopy (AFM) and Scanning Electron Mircroscopy (SEM). Measurements methods for nanoparticle sizing are explained for both instruments. A sampling technique using a spin coater is adapted to disperse nanoparticles on a substrate and to be available for AFM and SEM. A full uncertainty budget associated to the nanoparticle sizing by AFM is given. Main uncertainty sources linked to the sizing of sperical nanoparticle by SEM is also listed. A home-made software developed under Matlab for the measurement of the size of nanoparticles imaged by AFM and by SEM is presented. This software permit the semi-automatic treatment of images. Finally, comparaisons between size measurements of spherical nanoparticles by AFM and SEM are made and valid the three dimensions size measurement principle called hybrid metrology using this both microscopy techniques

Full textThis study aims to analyze how the question of popular education builds and develops the political and social scene of the Sergipe state, comprising the different contexts and dynamics that made possible the composition of a scene of protests and engagement around the cause. As methodological theoretical framework, the study's emphasis on an analysis of the construction of the cause as a public problem, tying up the analysis of network relations and militant trajectories. Thus, research is developed from the 1960s to the 2000s, dividing into three stages: the first refers to the construction process of the cause, when are the first organizations around the same, as the MEB and the CPC. The second time sets up a "reframing cause" going to be a more strategic and political movement born in this context the CESEP, emerging new actors and new dynamics of the cause. Already in the 2000s, observed a "fragmentation of the case", it becomes incorporated with other agendas, particularly the solidarity economy. Thus, we see how different contexts formulate different networks relationship around the cause, being articulated personal and impersonal relations in alliances. We also observed that at first the relations pervade the work of the Church, as in the second time the relationships were more branched and heterogeneous. Beyond this perspective the research raises, from the militant trajectories, two profiles of careers around the cause: multiple religious and militant activism. This reinforces the argument of the influence of political and social contexts in social action dynamics. Thus, the study seeks to bring contributions to the field of sociology of social movements. Housed in an analysis that gives rise to the case studies, the actors involved and assigned meanings, the research raises questions to better understand the Sergipe and even Brazilian politics.

Full textThis thesis focuses on the study of original bis(urea) low molecular weight organogelators (LMWG), integrating or not fluorescent pyrene units. This study integrates organic synthesis of these systems, study of their gelling capacity for various solvents, characterization of the corresponding self-assembled structures through various spectroscopic and microscopy techniques, and finally implementation of an original structuring method by alignment of the self-assembled fibers. Two first model bis(urea) organogelators were synthesized and their ability to gel multiple solvents as well as the structuration of the corresponding self-assemblies have been studied in detail (NMR, optical and electron microscopy). Alignment of the resulting fibers has been successfully performed using a template method, by filling the pores of an alumina membrane, followed by dissolution of the latter. A second series of bis(urea) organogelators, which incorporate one, two or three pyrene fluorescent units was synthesized. The integration of this unit in our gels has proved useful in several ways. First, it acts as an internal probe for further characterize the resulting self-assembled structures, using variable temperature absorption and emission spectroscopies. The pyrene unit also contributes to the robustness of the nanostructured objects, as remarkably evidenced in hybrid gels involving tris(pyrenyl) C3 symmetry gelators associated to either a bis(pyrenyl) gelator or to a π-acceptor derivative

Full textThe increasing demand for multifunctional materials has become a recurrent challenge for a wide panel of application fields such as microelectronics and structural applications. Within the frame of this project, a multifunctional characterisation set-up has been developed at SIMaP lab, mainly based on the electrical / mechanical coupling. The heart of this device is an in situ FEG-SEM (Field Emission Gun Scanning Electron Microscope) nanoindenter coupled with an electrical measurement apparatus. This work has threefold objectives: (1) The investigation of mechanical behavior of small scale systems, (2) The input of electrical data to the quantitative analysis of mechanical behavior during indentation, in particular to obtain a better estimation of the contact area (3) The local study of electronic properties of thin film stacks. SEM integration of the device has been validated and indent positioning with a precision better than 100 nm is successfully obtained. This performance allows the studies of mechanical properties at submicrometric length scale, with a high throughput allowing statistical measurements. Various bulk composite materials have been characterized as well as submicrometric gold islands on sapphire. In the latter case, despite the stochastic nature of their mechanical behavior, a deterministic law has been extracted. 3D-BCDI (Bragg Coherent Diffraction Imaging) experiments have been performed on a few islands at synchrotron facility to investigate the crystal state before and after mechanical loading. These experiments reveal initial dislocation nucleation prior to large deformation bursts. In parallel to this study, electrical measurements have been performed during indentation on various cases. Resistive-nanoindentations have been performed on noble metals (Au) and natively oxidized metals (Cu, Al), either as bulk single crystals or as polycrystalline thin films. Qualitative results emphasize the importance of the oxide layer on the electrical response. In the presence of an oxide layer, strong electrochemical reactions seem to occur at the tip-to-sample interface. When no oxide is involved, the measured resistance can be fully described by an analytical model and the computed electrical contact area is successfully validated with residual areas measurements. Finally, capacitive measurements have been performed on MOS structures with various oxide thicknesses. Experimental results have been well described by analytical modelling, which paves the way for quantitative local dielectric permittivity measurements under mechanical loading

Full textConcrete structures are frequently cracked by the action of different types of physicochemical mechanisms (external loads, restrained shrinkage, internal expansion). Cracks could impair the durability of concrete structures by creating preferential paths for the penetration of various types of potentially aggressive agents (liquids, gases, and ions). The aim of this thesis aims is to study transport properties in mechanically induced cracks. The first objective of the study is to better understand the potential effect of critical crack opening and self-healing. Cracks were generated in an inert material (brick) and in old mortar samples of 28 days and 2 years of age. A mechanical expansive core was used to generate cracks of constant width across the thickness of the sample. For the brick material, results show that a mechanical interaction between the fracture surfaces (critical crack opening) can affect the chloride-diffusion process along a crack path. A critical crack opening was also found for mortar samples. The age at which cracks were generated is also an important parameter. Self-healing was found to be more important in young mortars (28 days). The second objective of this thesis is the prediction of airflow in cracked cementitious material samples. A model proposed by Rizkalla et al. Was evaluated through the experimental measurement of the flow coefficient n and the friction coefficient k. A simplified model was proposed to predict airflow through a crack for laminar type flow. The third research objective is to study the effect of self-healing on airflow through cracked mortar samples stored in a 100% relative humidity environment. Results show that self-healing mainly occurs during the first two months of storage. SEM analysis of fracture surfaces shows the formation of self-healing products such as calcite, C-S-H, and ettringite
