Full textThe integration of mechatronic systems is the main source of their design complexity. Three key types of integration are at stake: multi-domain integration which is intended to synergistically integrate mechanics, electronics, information technology and automation; multi-level integration taking into account the interfaces between the different system abstraction levels, and finally physical integration that aims at embedding a large number of components in an increasingly limited volume. The purpose of our approach is to propose a means of assessing this integration degree in mechatronic systems design, as early as possible in the design cycle. The predesign phase indeed generates numerous architectures that will be shared, analyzed, debated and revised before being assessed in order to select the most relevant one according to the specifications to be met. Designers then require means and effective tools to compare alternative architectures, to justify and trace their design choices and thus facilitate decision-making trade-offs. Based on Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), the metrics we developed aim at evaluating and quantitatively comparing the integration degree of mechatronic architectures, in order to provide systems architects an efficient support to opt for the concept to be selected. The objectives addressed by these metrics are multi-level, multi-domain and physical integrations, as well as the innovation degree and finally the design project implementation of mechatronic systems. These metrics have been implemented in SysML and experimented with a CAD tool (CATIA) on different architectures of two mechatronic systems: a wheel hub motor and a hybrid powertrain. Finally, a method to generate customized metrics has been established to meet industrial needs, by taking into account specificities relating to the culture, organization, strategy of each company and their designers’ knowledge and feedbacks

Full textIn the context of interventional radiology, robotic-assisted surgery limits practitioners’ exposure to radiations and brings more accuracy to perform complex interventions. However, the presence of robot in the environment is a potential danger for the patient and the medical staff in case of unexpected interactions and manipulations. In this PhD thesis, we first focus on safety problems. An intrinsically safe mechanism is proposed. The achieved prototype allows to follow both planned trajectories and moving environments.Secondly, a guidance mechanism based on a passive approach is suggested. With a variable stiffness system, using a compliant mechanism, a resistive force is applied to the user which allows him to be guided in his gesture.Based on medical needs, we then study the possibility to integrate and generalize such systems to multiple degrees of freedom

Full textThis PhD thesis work is in the context of electric/hybrid vehicle embedded subsystems electrification. In mechatronic design field, the permanent objectives are costs and delays reducing. To achieve this, there is need of design methodologies and appropriate tools to perform a reliable design approach and leave maximum of risks before making the first prototypes. Embedded mechatronic systems mobilize technological brick keys which include the power electronic converter. Their performances are based on the capacity of the design methodologies to consider the environment multi-disciplinary constraints, the adequacy of the technologies, topologies and control laws. This thesis work shows how we can meet these requirements and needs through the development of multi-physics and multi-level design methodology for multi-level converters (interleaved) predisposed to an easy reconfiguration. This methodology, based on optimization under multi-physics constraints allows systematic choice of optimal architecture and component technologies from manufacturer database. It integrates the reliability aspect in the design since the pre-sizing process in the same level as the other constraints (electric, efficiency, thermal, volume, electromagnetic compatibility). In order take advantages of such interleaved converters, the integration of reliability in the design "reliability by design" is completed by the development of fault tolerant control architecture "reliability by control" which increase the availability by reconfiguring hardware or software (control law) of the designed converter

Full textThis thesis discuss of the use of immersive environments of Virtual Reality (VR) for Computer Aided Design (CAD). We study how these new interfaces between man and information systems can improve the different tasks of geometric shape design that are actually done on workstation with screen. These workstations essentially use keyboard, mouse and graphical interface. However this kind of interaction does not take advantage of VR possibilities in term of direct 3d interaction. In addition, CAD objects does not allow ways to modify there shape with a direct and 3d interaction. We present an approach of reactive objects that allows changing the value of operations parameters in the construction history graph of the solid, from direct interaction of the user on the elements (vertex, edge, face) of the B-Rep of the solid. To this purpose, we use an inference system that decides what parameters to modify knowing the selected element, and how to map the manipulations of the user to numerical changes of the parameters. These inferences are based on sets of rules dealing with construction information attached to the elements of B-Rep. This model of reactive objects has been implemented in a software prototype allowing creation and modification of CAD objects in an intuitive way. The interface proposed is a multimodal and immersive environment. We also propose in this thesis a method for collision detection dedicated to immersive interaction and a graphic rendering system on PC cluster adapted to deformable objects

Full textCAD/CAM systems represent important tools in mechanical domain. However, these systems remain limited and partially cover design process. This study proposes the principle of technological solution modelization thru a model for functional surfaces specification. This principle permits to express engineering constraints ; it integrates the iterative nature of design and allows a multi models modelization
