Abstract:
The design and shape of a v-ribbed belt affects its radial movement in the pulley grooves. When rib bottom/ groove tip contact occurs the wedge action decreases. The beginning of the contact depends on belt tension, fit between rib and groove, wear and material properties. For the first time a non-contact laser displacement meter has been used for dynamic measurements of the radial movement of a v-ribbed belt (type 3PK) around the arc of wrap running on a belt testing rig. Accurate and repeatable results are possible. By the help of this device, the radial movement and the beginning of the rib

Oldaker, R. S. "The design and control of mechanical switched mode drives." Thesis, University of Hull, 1997. http://hydra.hull.ac.uk/resources/hull:4571.

Abstract:
This thesis is concerned with the design, control and performance evaluation of a novel design for mechanical drives. This drive operates in a pulsed manner where energy is extracted from the input, stored and then released to the output. A spring acts as the energy store and brakes and clutches control the extraction and release of energy. By controlling the storage and release of this energy the device's output velocity can be controlled independently of the input velocity and since theoretically there is no energy loss the device operates in an analogous fashion to a variable ratio gearbox.

Maggs, John David. "Electromagnetic interference from variable speed motor drives." Thesis, Aston University, 1996. http://publications.aston.ac.uk/15347/.

Abstract:
A methodology is presented which can be used to produce the level of electromagnetic interference, in the form of conducted and radiated emissions, from variable speed drives, the drive that was modelled being a Eurotherm 583 drive. The conducted emissions are predicted using an accurate circuit model of the drive and its associated equipment. The circuit model was constructed from a number of different areas, these being: the power electronics of the drive, the line impedance stabilising network used during the experimental work to measure the conducted emissions, a model of an induction moto

Current preparations for studying skeletal muscle biomechanics typically use: mounting techniques that lead to mechanical disruption of the tissue, which can create drug transport artifacts. Abstract:
This thesis is a step towards the model-based control of two redundant robots. In the first part of the thesis, a method is presented for autonomous kinematic calibration of a 3-DOF redundant parallel robot. Multiple closed loops are used in a least squares optimization method. Some numerical methods such as column scaling of the gradient matrix and observability indices for the best pose set of robot calibration configurations are discussed. Four observability indices are considered analytically, geometrically, and experimentally. Two of these indices are presented for the first time. The fou
