This study examines the automatization potential for two production lines at Scania Transmission workshop in Södertälje using Industry 4.0 technologies. In order to do so, the capabilities of the operational performance and safety features of cobots and an Automated Visual Inspection System is theoretically investigated and intended to substitute CNC operators on certain tasks such as loading of conveyors and quality controls. The purpose of the study is to generate a realistic approach and give insight to the benefits of a future practical implementation.Previous research around these technol

Abstract:
The thesis presented herein comprises of the work undertaken to research novel methods of Phased array ultrasonic inspection of complex steam turbine blade roots as found in the power generation industry. The research was conducted as part of the Engineering Doctorate scheme, administered by the Research Centre for Non-Destructive Evaluation (RCNDE), in conjunction with RWE npower and the University of Warwick. Steam turbine blades, and in particularly last stage blades of low pressure steam turbines, are amongst the most highly stressed components on a power generating plant. Two of the most

In this study, a calibration setup for laser beam positioning systems used in visual inspection applications in industry is designed and manufactured. The laser positioning systems generate movable parallel laser lines on the projection surface. There are several translational and angular error sources affecting the positioning accuracy of the laser lines on the projection surface. Especially, since the laser line positioning error caused by angular error sources increases with the distance between the laser system and the projection surface, angular parameters of the laser sources should be m

Koeppe, Ralf. "A comparative study of the performance of various image analysis methods for dimensional inspection with vision systems." PDXScholar, 1989. https://pdxscholar.library.pdx.edu/open_access_etds/3930.

Full text
Abstract:
Dimensional inspection with Vision Systems requires a careful selection of image analysis methods in order to obtain accurate information about the geometry of the parts to be measured. The purpose of this project is to study, implement and compare different image evaluation methods and to show their strengths and weaknesses with respect to dimensional inspection. Emphasis is made on the inspection of circular features. The criteria of comparison for these methods are discussed. Using synthetically generated images, various analysis methods are compared and conclusions for their use are drawn.

Abstract:
For some time now coordinate measuring machines have been an integral part of the shop floor. The goal has been to make coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) into tools that can easily be used by machinists to improve their manufacturing capabilities. The value of a CMM as a quality control tool is undisputed. Now efforts are being made to further reduce the time and cost of measurement by reducing the physical distance between machining and measuring processes. The ability to reduce that distance to zero and measure a part directly on the chip-making machine has been a goal for many years. Dim
