Abstract:
This thesis describes a system which is able to track and imitate human motion. The system is divided into two major parts: computer vision system and robot arm motion control system. Through the use of two real-time video cameras, computer vision system identifies the moving object depending on the colour features, as the object colour is matched within the colour range in the current image frame, a method that employs two vectors is used to calculate the coordinates of the object. After the object is detected and tracked coordinates are saved to a pre-establish database in the purpose of fur

This work is submitted for the award of a PhD by published works. It deals with some of the efforts of the author over the last ten years in the field of Mechatronics. Mechatronics is a new area invented by the Japanese in the late 1970's, it consists of a synthesis of computers and electronics to improve mechanical systems. To control any mechanical event three fundamental features must be brought together: the sensors used to observe the process, the control software, including the control algorithm used and thirdly the actuator that provides the stimulus to achieve the end result. New dynamic signal control methods such as fuzzy logic and artificial intelligence developed recently mainly focused on isolated intersection. In this study, a Fuzzy Logic Control for a Diamond Interchange incorporating with Fuzzy Ramp System (FLDI) has been developed. The signalization of two closely spaced intersections in a diamond interchange is a complicated problem that includes both increasing the diamond interchange capacity and reduce delays at the same time. The model comprises of three main modules. The Fuzzy Phase Timing module controls the current phase green time extension, the P

Control of mechatronic systems remain an open problem in control theory despite the research work worldwide in the last decade. Uncertainties in mechatronic systems, which includes faults, and disturbance, will often cause undesired behaviours, affecting the systems performances, may lead to the system failure, or even causing safety issues. Control reconfiguration is an active approach in control systems field. However, controller reconfiguration involves changes in its parameters and structure. System stability might not be able to be guaranteed during the parameters tuning, which might caus

A significant security risk of modern vehicles is their vulnerability to relay attacks, due to challenge-response methods, such as those employed in Passive Keyless Entry (PKE) used by most commercial cars, being inherently exposed. This class of attacks are where communication between a vehicle and its key is relayed by an attacker over long range - thereby bypassing any encryption and unlocking the vehicle without requiring direct access to the key. While a multitude of defenses have been proposed in recent years, many lack either robustness or practicality. Any viable system will likely hav

Mechatronics requires the integration of a range of technologies from mechanical engineering, electronics and software, often with conflicting requirements. This problem is particularly complex with respect to the electronic parts of a mechatronics system where there are currently no computer-based tools available to support and assist designers during the early stages of the design process. Recognising this, the thesis was initially defined and developed based on the decomposition of a mechatronic system into its different system components using Functional Decomposition and top down approach

The construction of lightweight manipulators with a larger speed range is one of the major goals in the design of well-behaving industrial robotic arms. Their use will lead to higher productivity and less energy consumption than is common with heavier, rigid arms. However, due to the flexibility involved with link deformation and the complexity of distributed parameter systems, modeling and control of flexible manipulators still remain a major challenge to robotic research. A compromise between modeling costs and control efficiency for real-time implementation is inevitable. The interdependenc
