Abstract:
Současná nestabilita arabského světa se projevuje různě: revolucemi, politickým islámem, terorismem, migrací a hroucením celých států. Kniha vysvětluje kořeny nestability s pomocí teoreticky původní a empiricky podložené historicko-sociologické srovnávací analýzy.

Abstract:
The aim of the Master's thesis is to analyze the phenomenon of international terrorism as a process of communication which exploits the pattern of contemporary mass media. The thesis will result in a practical application of findings of this analysis on chosen recent terrorist attacks. It will mainly focus on evaluating whether the patterns of terrorism as striving for publicity are still present and if/how they have changed with the arrival of web-based communication. First chapter of the thesis is dedicated to defining and framing terrorism. It also gives a brief insight to historical roots of a terrorist's need for attention. Second chapter introduces mass media as a theoretical concept and as a tool in the communication strategy of a terrorist. The final chapter examines chosen attacks in years 2010 and 2011 through the prism of media-centered strategy. It shows almost no changes in the strategy, however, there is a solid evidence for a terrorists' ability to take advantage of the Internet as a mean to enhance the effect of their activity, e.g. recruitment of adherents, resource of information, and spreading messages.

Abstract:
Thesis approaches terrorism as a form of communication. An attack or other terrorist activities are ways of message coding. Its purpose is generally to spread fear among target public. For effective spreading of fear terrorists use media both indirectly, if a message is publicized in the news, or directly via new media mostly internet and its features, that enable cheap fabrication of widely accessible content. There is a symbiosis between media and terrorism. Terrorists create engaging events that are taken over by media which make an attractive part of their news coverage. Because of specific elements of reporting a distorted perception of reality is introduced. News coverage can never create a precise image of reality. There are many social and psychological phenomenons connected to the process of communication. It is usually terrorists who benefit from them, but some are working against their purposes. Thesis introduces an analysis of communicational strategy of militant Islamizes and concentrates mostly on global terrorism and Al-Qaida and its branches.

Abstract:
The master thesis Global terrorism and the media as the means of communication focuses on examining the relationship between terrorist organisations and the news media which play a key role in planning terrorist attacks. The author assumes that a better understanding of the mutual relationship within the communication process requires the engagement of other players into the research as well: the government and the public. Their mutual interdependence is illustrated on the abstract model from which the author, afterwards, deduces the factors which influence relationships between all the players.

Abstract:

In theoretic part I deal with organization Islamic state and symbiotic relation between terrorism and media. We encouter a new phenomena of terrorism which can adapt for new media, social sites and which can work also with audiovisual agenda. I try to get closer and try to set the ethics of west media and I am looking for answers which are underlay of chosen literature or contemporary codified standards (f.e. BBC Editorial Guidelines). I compare new phenomena of terrorism and media reflection with current sociological trends and create terrorism and his work in media in "liquid times". In practical part I deal with specific events of terroristic attacks of ISIS in Europe and I search ethical questionable aspects in content of czech AV media. I am looking for specific points on the relief of terroristic attacks which broadcasters do. Based on the theoretical part I focus next to primary also on secondary ethically questionable aspects which are result of symbiotic relation between media and terrorism.

Diploma thesis Visual framing of terrorist attacks over the years focuses on how the selected terrorist attacks are presented in four Czech daily newspapers. The theoretical part of the thesis is focused on visual framing - which is based on the theoretical grounds of the concept of framing - and the visual presentation of terrorist attacks in the media. The aim of the research is to compare the visual framing of the attack in London in July 2005 and in Paris in 2015 using a quantitative content analysis of photographs accompanying the news coverage of attacks. The emphasis was on general frames of photographs accompanying the news coverage of both attacks and the difference between the framing of both events, the extent of the violence displayed, the differences in the visual framing of quality and tabloid press with a focus on photographs of victims and injured, and the relation of the title and the caption with the visual frames of analyzed visuals. Other research papers and studies of visual framing of terrorist attacks and related topics are also presented.

Abstract:
This thesis deals with the qualitative text analysis of media discourses related to the 7th January 2015 terrorist attack on French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo's staff. In accordance with social constructionism theory, the term terrorism is here understood as a social construct and mass media is considered to be one of the social construction agents. The objects of analysis are journalistic texts published during the one-month period of 7th January - 7th February 2015. As a resource for the analysis I have chosen the daily newspaper Lidové noviny, the weekly magazine Týden, online newspaper IHNED.cz and TV programme Události, komentáře. The texts were analysed through the combination of grounded theory method and four steps of foucaultian discourses analysis described by Carla Willig. The aim of this paper is to discover and to interpret the most significant discursive constructions of Charlie Hebdo terrorist attack that appeared in the Czech media, to situate the same discursive object within wider or global discourses, to describe positions that discourses make available or attribute to the subjects and social actors, and to define the practices arising from these discourses. The media event of Charlie Hebdo attack has been closely related to the topics of freedom of speech, 9/11 terrorist...
