Media-literacy education provides a way for people to assess and critically evaluate media images. Traditional media literacy programs have mitigated the negative effects of idealized media imagery such as reduced self-esteem, eating-disordered attitudes, and low body-satisfaction among women. Although education is moving increasingly to online platforms, the potential of media literacy education delivered online has not been evaluated. Based on social comparison and objectification theories, the purpose of this study was to quantitatively assess the comparative efficacy of online and face-to-

Social media analytics is showing promise for the prediction of financial markets. The research presented here employs linear regression analysis and information theory analysis techniques to measure the extent to which social media data is a predictor of the future returns of stock-exchange traded financial assets. Two hypotheses are proposed which investigate if the measurement of social media data in real-time can be used to pre-empt – or lead – changes in the prices of financial markets. Abstract:
Modern tourists travel in new ways. The rising class of so-called “Creative tourists” prefer to explore everyday life instead of simply ticking off a list of sights to see. However, travel guides all currently represent places as simply a collection of sights. At the same time, public geotagged social media data is opening a new world of ways to investigate another place. In this thesis, I describe efforts to bring these trends together, by developing neighborhood guides for travelers, based on social media. I first investigate why people geotag and where this public geotagged data comes from.

This study investigated the Uncanny Valley and whether using stylization and design may mitigate the negative effects of it. A survey was carried out where respondents had to rate a series of images, which where edited to be stylized in progressively higher degrees, in appeal and realism. All levels of stylization saw small gradual decreases in realism, whilst values of appeal remained static until the three last images where it diminished. Possibly there may be a way of designing characters to have a limited degree of realism whilst not evoking the eeriness associated with the Uncanny Valley.
