Abstract:
Connection between the ownership structure of media organization and partiality of newsDeimantas Jastramskis SummaryThe content of media news is created by media organizations. Their decisions depend on the structure of media organization and the distribution of power among sections of the organization. The aim of the article is to analyze the connection between the ownership structure of media organization and the partiality of news. The claim of the article is that the concentrated structure of the ownership and management of media organization results in the partiality of media news. Abstract Given that property rights are politically sensitive, and that the right of ownership is the most extensive property right, this article undertakes a political analysis of the so-called abuse of ownership doctrine as a private law limitation to the right of ownership. The notion of the abuse of rights as is defined and described by the Serbian academic, Professor Vodinelić, is explained, and examined with respect to how it fits into four different social justice theories. This analysis shows that the doctrine of abuse of rights would change in structure, and in the way it is applied, depending on the underlying value system which is adopted in a society.

Abstract:
The restrictions on ownership in the Australian broadcasting legislation reflect the recognition that the media industries are more than mere producers of consumer goods and services; instead, the nature of their output gives them a more fundamental influence on society. It is claimed by some that the arrival of the new media technologies, especially digitalisation and the Internet, has undermined the rationale for the current restrictions on media ownership. This claim is based on the assumption that the new technologies will bring about a significant increase in the number of media outlets, and that the restrictions established for the ‘old’ media will become unnecessary, ineffective and/or irrelevant. This paper points out, however, that there are divergent views concerning the implications of the new technologies for the structure and ownership of the media, and that it would be premature to remove restrictions on media ownership. In the short term at least, any liberalisation of the concentration or cross-media restrictions is more likely to bring about greater ownership consolidation with adverse consequences for media diversity and the health of democracy in Australia.

Abstract:
The development of “new” media and the financial investment in football since the early 1990s have dramatically changed the football club–media relationship. A number of clubs changed ownership and organizational structure for financial gain or financial survival while the increasing demand for immediate information led to clubs’ recognizing the importance of external communication. Drawing on 47 semistructured interviews with media personnel and 827 questionnaires completed by supporters at 4 football clubs, this article assesses the organizational structure of clubs in dealing with the media and supporters and the level of dependence between clubs and the external media. The results highlight changes in the organizational structure of clubs and their strategies for external communication, as well as the contrasting relationships between football clubs and the external media. As ownership and personnel changes occur, clubs should remember the importance of the 2-way relationships they are in with supporters and the media.

The aim of the article is to analyze ownership structures of organizations of Lithuanian national dailies and their influence on content of these dailies. There is a greater probability for editors of media organizations to ensure independent editorial policy when ownership structures are more complex and various. Both depersonalization of shareholders’ interests and independent, socially responsible editorial policy form conditions for objectivity of media content. Such situation is favorable for profitable operation and fulfillment of property interests of media organizations’ owners.

Abstract:
Material structure and function of plant tissue is one of the most difficult material for students to understand. This is because studying this material in detail requires aids (microscopes) whose observations are not necessarily easily understood by students. In addition, so far the learning media and methods used are less varied. Based on the above statement, we need a learning media that can increase student interest and student understanding in learning the structure and function of plant tissue. So this study aims to develop a monopolistic educational learning media on the structure and function of plant tissue in class VIII of SMPN. This development research refers to the ADDIE model (Analyze, Design, Development, Implement, Evaluation). The monopoly game structure and plant network developed consists of several game equipment including: a monopoly board, a set of ownership rights cards, a set of public and opportunity fund cards, a set of money - dice, and a game guide. As for the pawns in this game are the students themselves. Based on the material expert validation test, it was found that the percentage of material suitability in the monopoly of the structure and function of plant tissue was 70.83% or quite decent. Meanwhile, for the media expert validation test the percentage of eligibility was 63.33% or quite decent. Based on the validation test obtained an average of 67.08% or if interpreted then the monopoly of the plant's structure and tissue is quite feasible.

The purpose of this paper is to examine: (1) to what extent Canadian oil and gas firms have adhered to the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountant proposed guidelines respecting climate change disclosures in their annual reports, and (2) whether the disclosures of these firms can be influenced by their media visibility, the presence and operating characteristics of an environmental committee within the board of directors, their ownership structure, their audit firms, their political exposure and media visibility. The results show that the level of disclosure is very low; however, when the board of directors has an environment committee, the level of disclosure is higher. This is also the case for firms having significant political exposure and strong media visibility, and for those with a widely held ownership structure. Whether or not the audit firm is one of the Big Four, does not make any difference in the level of disclosure.

Abstract The article presents the results of the quantitative and qualitative research of presentation of the selected travel and transport destinations in the travel specialized print media with the focus on the impact of the ownership structure and geographical affiliation. The authors accomplished two research goals: firstly, they examined the scale of popularisation of travel destinations in two contexts: the geographical one (division into continents, countries and cities) and the chronological one (investigating changes in popularising particular travel destinations and referring them to the broader political or social context of a given time). Secondly, they indicated the differences or similarities in the selection of the destinations at the macro-level (among magazines, i.e. their editorial policies or affiliation to publishing companies) and at the micro-level (between the main and supporting cover stories). The results show that the selection of destinations displayed on the front covers of magazines is related to their editorial policy, which is secondary related to the ownership structure.

This paper reports on the nature, extent, and determinants of online corporate social responsibility (CSR) disclosure practices among the top 350 companies listed in the London Stock Exchange (FTSE 350). This has been done through two-fold. First, the paper investigates the relationship between firm characteristics, board structure, and ownership structure with CSR information dissemination via social media. The results indicate that the company that has a high number of females on board has a significant effect on CSR and the product and service as a component of CSR. Moreover, the results reveal that the company with a high level of ownership concentration has an effect on community involvement, product and service, and environment. In addition, a company that has a high level of institutional ownership has an effect on the product and service. Finally, the company that has a high percentage of director ownership has an effect on the product and service. Second, the paper studies the effect of board structure and other control variables on the online CSR for the top listed UK firms. The dependent variables consist of a comprehensive index of disclosure and another four sub-indices which namely employees, community involvement, products & services, and environment. The results show that online CSR disclosure through the firms’ websites has been affected by board size, board diversity, audit type, profitability, leverage, firm age, and the sector in which the firm operates

We document a substantial customer complaint gap between stock and mutual financial firms. To assess whether this 21% per year complaint gap stems from complaint-prone customers in stock insurers, we examine state-adjudicated complaint success. To further delineate between customer selection or treatment explanations, we exploit within insurer complaints around random claims (natural disasters) and attention shocks (media scrutiny). Further tests reveal the complaint gap widens with greater competition, near insolvency thresholds, and with more price regulation. Overall, the results are inconsistent with the hypothesis that mutual financial firms exhibit low customer satisfaction, suggesting customers find this a beneficial organizational structure.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effect of corporate board attributes, ownership structure and firm-level characteristics on both corporate mandatory and voluntary disclosure behaviour. Design/methodology/approach Multivariate regression techniques are used to estimate the effect of corporate board and ownership structures on mandatory and voluntary disclosures of a sample of Libyan listed and non-listed firms between 2006 and 2010. Findings First, the authors find that board size, board composition, the frequency of board meetings and the presence of an audit committee have an impact on the level of corporate disclosure. Second, results indicate that ownership structures have a non-linear effect on the level of corporate disclosure. Finally, the authors document that firm age, liquidity, listing status, industry type and auditor type are positively associated with the level of corporate disclosure. Research limitations/implications Future research could investigate disclosure practices using other channels of corporate disclosure media, such as corporate websites. Useful insights may be offered also by future studies by conducting in-depth interviews with corporate managers, directors and owners regarding these issues. Practical implications The evidence relating to the important role that corporate governance mechanisms play in shaping the expectations relating to the level of corporate voluntary and/or mandatory disclosures may be useful in informing investor decisions, as well as future policy and regulatory initiatives. Originality/value This paper contributes to the existing literature by examining the governance-disclosure nexus relating to both mandatory and voluntary disclosures in both listed and non-listed firms operating in a developing country setting.

Abstract:
Abstract This study deals with influence of globalization on the economic aspect of the media. Financing the media and the issue of ownership over them represents the fundamental framework on which basis the media work and direct their editorial policy. Principle position implies that owners of the media use power of media to promote their economic, political, cultural and other stances. A particular issue, especially in European countries in transition, represents the financing of public service, as a socially beneficial good. Many commercial media, on the basis of their financial and political power, are trying to diminish or discredit the power and role of the public service. Former socialist countries, now countries in transition, seek from their national budgets to maintain this kind of informing, that is, the public interest, education and promoting cultural values. The era of globalization brought, as one of its negative traits, the domination of profit over culture, education, and even over the right to have quality informing. So the mass media have become a sort of hostage of confrontation of different political and economic interests, which reflects on the quality of media content that strive towards sensationalism, advertocracy, tabloidization. Based on the case study of Montenegro, as a country in transition, the development of mass media is shown, including their financing, ownership structure, and profit.

This article examines the corporatization of collegiate media in the United States. Gannett Company, Inc.’s purchase of two university publications, the FSView & Florida Flambeau ( FSView) at Florida State University and the Central Florida Future at the University of Central Florida, have raised concerns regarding the autonomy of the campus press. This article first defines the functions and structures of the campus press and how each contribute to the normative goals and democratic potential of collegiate student newspapers. The article goes on to argue that a corporate ownership structure, despite the alluring rhetoric espoused by corporate media, meets the needs of advertisers and shareholders, not the communities the campus press should serve. Gannett’s purchase of the FSView is examined in depth because it provides a revealing case study of the underlying interests that corporations such as Gannett have in collegiate media.

Abstract:
The proliferation of fact-checking services is a fast-growing global phenomenon, especially in Western countries. These services are the response of journalism to disinformation, that has transformed a common internal procedure of journalistic work in the core of a business directed to the general public, also offered to the companies of mass media and social media. Literature review shows that the research on fact-checking has focused on the origin, funding, relationship with the media, procedures, and experiences related to politics and COVID-19. However, the ownership structure of the fact-checking services has been superficially analysed and the business model of these platforms has not yet been studied in detail and depth. The objective of this article is to identify and analyse the business model of the nine Spanish active fact-checking services through a documentary research of public information sources and the information that these services give about themselves. This paper explains their ownership structure and income provenance, from open information sources. The findings are that the fact-checking services that depend on media groups are no strangers to the trend of opacity usual in these groups, but in the case of fact-checking services that are born as initiatives of journalists, the trend towards transparency is, in the majority of cases, clear. However, the information provided by the Spanish fact-checking services is deficient and does not allow us to discover their business models, except in the case of Newtral and, to a certain extent, Maldita.

Abstract:
This article investigates the reality and variations of the European minority language media systems between 2009 and 2016, a period of serious economic crisis and accelerated digitalization process. To that aim, several parameters were measured: structure of the media systems and changes during that period along the variables of media type, ownership and reach; presence and relevance of major media in each of the communities; number and variation of full-time journalists; and the density or relative weight of the media systems with regard to the speaking population. The 10 minority languages under analysis (Basque, Catalan, Galician, Corsican, Breton, Frisian, Irish, Welsh, Scottish-Gaelic and Sámi) represent a wide range of communities. The relevance of the study lies in its direct comparative nature and in the fact that it thoroughly updates previous scholarly literature, measuring the changes which occurred within the 10 media systems.

Abstract:
Our study focuses on Sesame Street and sets out to examine how Sesame Workshop, as a ‘non-profit’ organization targeting children, has been able to continuously transform and make itself relevant in a predominantly commercial children’s television landscape dominated by transnational ownership structures. The analysis includes an investigation of Sesame Workshop’s mission statements, organizational structure, annual fiscal reports, promotional material and other written sources from the 1970s to the 2010s. We focus on the Workshop’s own arguments and reasons for why their ‘non-profit’ status was, and still is, better at taking care of children’s interests than the for-profit companies. These understandings are held up against the, at times, very commercial logic guiding the workshop’s business model, and analysed within the economic and political context of children’s television in the United States and the Workshop’s key international target markets. Our theoretical framework draws upon insights from work on political economy and children’s media and comparative media systems.

In this article, we are interested in examining the factors that drive cybernationalism and digital governance in media policies. As scholars with a long-standing interest in media industries and policies in Latin America, we start with a simple empirical observation: the curious absence of debates and strong efforts to regulate digital media in the region grounded on nationalistic arguments. It is not exaggerated to affirm that for the past two decades, the region has largely adopted a laissez-faire, deregulatory approach on fundamental issues about the structure and functioning of the Internet, including the performance of global digital platforms, content traffic, data ownership and access, and speech. We believe that understanding the decades-long transition from nationalistic media regulations to pragmatism in digital policies in Latin America yields valuable insights for theorizing the conditions that foster (and discourage) nationalism and sovereignty in digital policies.

Abstract:
This study aimed at identifying the reality of quality management in twenty Jordanian media institutions with respect to the type of media outlet, and its size along with its ownership. Divided into six essential dimensions, this study identified the features of internal processes in those media institutions as follows: institutional selforganization; training and professional qualification; editorial policies along with newsroom management; media independency, media questioning; and sustainable improvement, development, and updating the infrastructure and means of production. The study adopted an analytical and descriptive approach. As the instrument of the study, a sampling survey, designed based on the related literature of the quality of service sector, and that of performance and media professionalism, measured sixty-four minor indicators, covering those six dimensions. The sample included interviews --three interviews were carried out in every institution. By way of concluding, this study revealed a decline in most indicators applying quality. In particular, among the most applicable quality dimensions were developing and updating the infrastructure structure and the means of production, and finally institutional self-organization. On the other hand, the lowest applicable dimensions were independency, editorial policies and newsroom management.

Abstract:
During the 2010s, there was a “utopian moment” as regards the structure of media, owing to the social space created by digital culture, transmediality, and the different ways of participating in public debate. What is expected from digital information transmitted via the Web and social media is action and interaction with subjects in the public space or square. Accordingly, this paper analyses the descriptive assertions and proposals of the viewers of newscasts of Spanish television between 2014 and 2017, as regards how they perceived and represented the public space, mediatised by information through spatial metaphors. Specifically, it is based on the analysis of the transcriptions of five discussion groups and four interviews, whose aim is to examine two polarised spatial metaphors—the traffic labyrinth and the open square—and a series of demands relating to the role of journalists, media ownership, viewers’ access, and the quality of democratic society.

Abstract:
The Use of Social Media in Marketing Communication of Polish Universities Social media has revolutionized communication between the sender and recipient of media messages. Thus, it is barely surprising that Polish universities use social media to communicate with Gen Y and Gen Z – generations whose members do not remember life without the Internet and social media. The goal of this article is to analyze the activity of Polish universities in social media, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Snapchat, and TikTok. The analysis was based on quantitative empirical research, embracing all universities in Poland. The study included variables such as the size of the university, location of the university, and ownership structure (public and non-public universities). The results proved that Facebook remains the primary communication tool for Polish universities, and its position seems to be unbeatable. On the other hand, Polish universities still do not communicate on TikTok or Snapchat, which is a missed opportunity to come into being in portals addressed to the younger generation. The most popular innovative tool in extensive use is chatbots. The most important variable explaining different communication patterns was the size of the university, but – in case of some – portals, we discovered other significant relationships.

Abstract:
This article discusses the recent development of Xinhuanet.com , a news website launched by Xinhua News Agency, one of China’s key central state-owned news organisations. Xinhuanet Co. Ltd, the business entity running the website, went public in October 2016 in Shanghai. This marked the first step in the state news agency’s financialisation. Two main questions are addressed. First, what were the main driving forces behind Xinhuanet’s transformation from a governmental cultural organisation to a publicly traded enterprise, the majority shareholder of which remains Xinhua? Second, how should the nature of this transformation be understood, in relation to Xinhua’s wider marketisation process and that of the Chinese media sector as a whole? The article argues that Xinhua’s financialisation via Xinhuanet is best understood as part of a state-administrated initiative in accord with Xinhua’s own business ambitions. The financialisation of news by state players such as Xinhuanet does not alter the underlying ownership structure of Chinese news media, which remain ultimately state-controlled.

Abstract:
The paper problematizes the presence of political clientelism in the media in the Republic of Serbia. The aim of this research is to point out the examples of establishing mechanisms of clientelistic practice in the media, using the News agency Tanjug as an example. Three analytical categories, which are relevant for perceiving the problem of clientelism, have been included: regulatory framework, financial allocations from the state budget and the reporting of the news agency Tanjug. The results of the research show that the illegal functioning, the unsolved ownership issue, non-transparent financing and unprofessional reporting are characteristics of the media work of Tanjug agency. According to the law, the former state agency was scheduled to stop work by the end of 2015. However, Tanjug still, with unclear legal status and significant financial help from the state, publishes information, some of which were proven to be disinformation. The analysis of examples of unobjective and unprofessional reporting points out to the ignoring of public interest, in order to satisfy the particular interest of the governing political structure, which financially makes Tanjug?s functioning possible, in an illegal manner. This case represents a closed circle of interrelationships on the relation politics-economy-media, through which clientelism is defined, using quid pro quo practice.

Abstract:
With the ceaseless usage of web and other online services, it has turned out that copying, sharing, and transmitting digital media over the Internet are amazingly simple. Since the text is one of the main available data sources and most widely used digital media on the Internet, the significant part of websites, books, articles, daily papers, and so on is just the plain text. Therefore, copyrights protection of plain texts is still a remaining issue that must be improved in order to provide proof of ownership and obtain the desired accuracy. During the last decade, digital watermarking and steganography techniques have been used as alternatives to prevent tampering, distortion, and media forgery and also to protect both copyright and authentication. This paper presents a comparative analysis of information hiding techniques, especially on those ones which are focused on modifying the structure and content of digital texts. Herein, various text watermarking and text steganography techniques characteristics are highlighted along with their applications. In addition, various types of attacks are described and their effects are analyzed in order to highlight the advantages and weaknesses of current techniques. Finally, some guidelines and directions are suggested for future works.

Abstract:
The present text analyzes the changes in the structure of the media system in four South American countries during the first decade of the 21st century: Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay. The general premise is that the current levels of concentration in media markets have accelerated during the first decade of the 21st century as a consequence of the historical processes which have taken place in these countries, although each has different origins and effects in each of these national cases. Increased concentration, the media convergence with telecommunications and the Internet, the growing financial dependence of the sector, the foreign acquisition of a significant amount of their property at the hands of multinational firms and the crisis of the current regulatory frameworks are the main frameworks for understanding the transformation of the media in the Southern Cone of Latin America. The processes of change identified to describe and analyze the evolution of Brazilian, Argentine, Chilean and Uruguayan media in recent years could not have been achieved without the collaboration of different governments and the radical transformations in the management and ownership patterns of these media.

Abstract:
Abstract Abstract 3879 Tumor-specific metabolic changes could serve as new therapeutic targets. While much attention has been given to the metabolism of glucose in cancer cells and intervening therapies, relatively little attention has been given to fatty acids and fatty acid β-oxidation (FAO) in promoting cancer cell survival. Here, we reveal new findings implicating fatty acid metabolism in Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and have developed a small molecule inhibitor of this pathway as a novel therapeutic approach to treat CLL. We have found that B cells isolated from CLL patients show increased levels of b-oxidation as compared to B cells isolated from PBMCs of healthy donor controls. NXT629, a small molecule inhibitor of the FAO pathway, dose-dependently reduced b-oxidation in CLL cells but did not reduce b-oxidation in B cells isolated from healthy volunteers. A negative control compound (NXT962) that has a similar chemical structure to NXT629, but does not significantly bind to the relevant target, did not inhibit FAO. NXT629 exerted dose-dependent cytotoxicity in CLL cells (CC50=10 mM, n=5 different patient samples) whereas NXT962 was inactive. Since the cellular microenvironment can protect CLL cells from spontaneous and drug-induced apoptosis, it is pivotal to evaluate novel drugs in this context. As expected, we found that macrophages protected CLL cells from spontaneous and fludarabine-induced apoptosis in vitro. However, NXT629 significantly reduced CLL cells viablity in the co-cultures. NXT629 (at 10 mM, n=2 different patient samples) induced apoptosis in 80% of cells after 7 days of co-culture in a setting where fludarabine was inactive. Though most CLL cells in the periphery are in a resting state, CLL cells proliferate in lymphoid organs. To mimic these conditions, we examined the activity of FAO inhibition on CLL cells that were induced to proliferate in vitro. To induce proliferation, CLL cells were cultured in media containing human interleukin (IL)-4, IL-10, and allogeneic T blasts. Labeling CLL cells with carboxyfluorescein succinimidyl ester, allowed us to monitor several rounds of induced CLL-cell division via flow cytometry, and within 5 days the CLL cells had expanded 3-fold. We found that addition of NXT629 to such cultures resulted in a dose-dependent reduction in the number of leukemia cells induced to undergo cell-division (IC50=3.7 mM, n=6), whereas the negative control compound showed no activity. Furthermore, when used in combination with dexamethasone (0.3 mM), NXT629 (3 mM) showed a significant decrease in the number of viable cells (38% +/−3%) over either dexamethasone (65% +/−12%) or NXT629 (74%+/−15%) alone. The additivity of FAO inhibition and dexamethasone in vitro suggests that a combination warrants further testing and might yield improved clinical responses. Overall, these results suggest that fatty acids promote primary CLL cell survival and proliferation, and that targeting the FAO pathway could be a new therapeutic approach to treating CLL. Abstract:
This paper examines the evolution of the extent to which firms with a high greenhouse gases (GHG) emission impact complied with Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) Canada guidelines on climate change disclosures, as well as the factors that influenced these disclosures. The sample is comprised of Canadian firms in the mining, energy, and chemical sectors. The study measures the influence of the firms’ political exposure and media visibility, their audit firm, the presence of an environment committee, their ownership structure, and their financial performance on their GHG emissions disclosures. Our findings show that these disclosures considerably evolved over the 10 year period from 2007 to 2017 and that this evolution was in the form of a leap rather than a slow and steady learning curve. We also confirmed the significant influence of the environment committee, political exposure, and media visibility on this evolution. Our empirical results corroborate the work of DiMaggio and Powell (1983), outlining the important role normative pressures play in voluntary GHG emissions disclosure firms make in order to secure the legitimacy conferred by society (Suchman, 1995)

Abstract:
This article draws upon content analytic and survey data from a 12-nation comparative study to examine the question of content-interest correspondence (CIC) regarding foreign news on television. That is, to what extent do the contents of foreign news aired on television match the interests that viewers have regarding foreign news? Treating CIC as a variable, the data show that, among the nations studied, CIC concerning foreign countries covered in the news is generally stronger than CIC regarding news topics. At the same time, the analysis examines whether the level of CIC relates to several national, media system, and viewer characteristics. The analysis shows that larger nations exhibit higher levels of CIC regarding topics and lower levels of CIC regarding countries. Also, CIC regarding news topics is lower in countries where the ownership and revenue structure of the television system leans toward commercialism and where television news focuses more heavily on soft news. Implications of the findings and directions for further research are discussed.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to systematise the research field of sustainability reporting. The authors contribute to closing this research gap and, on the basis of this systematisation, address the research question of what are the drivers of sustainability reporting. Design/methodology/approach The paper systematically reviews existing studies and analyses drivers of sustainability reporting using a qualitative approach. The authors intend to demonstrate and discuss the wide range of approaches used in literature. Findings The review suggests that firm size, media visibility and ownership structure are the most important drivers of the disclosure of sustainability reports, while corporate governance only seems to have an influence on the existence of audit or sustainability committees. In contrast, other determinants such as profitability, capital structure, firm age or board composition as an indicator of corporate governance do not show a clear tendency. Originality/value The authors systemise the research field related to sustainability reporting to give an overview of the current research landscape that is not influenced by environmental or social reporting and discuss the identified determinants and the related variables. This results in a comprehensive report of what is known and unknown about the questions addressed in the systematic review.

Abstract:
This community service activity aims to train teachers to make learning media in the form of pictorial stories with children's literary content. This article is a case study of community service at the Nakula Gugus Teacher Working Group in Wonogiri, Central Java. Children's literature in this context is defined as a medium that is used as an intermediary to convey a form of character education for children. Apart from this, children's literature is considered an appropriate medium because it is able to attract students' interest through visual and narrative forms. Children's literature is also able to have more appeal if from the beginning it comes from ideas that are owned by the children themselves. This will stimulate a sense of ownership and logic to the things that the story structure wants to instill. The method used is lectures and discussions, then in the form of workshops on picture story books. The result of this community service is a picture book with a theme that is close to children related to the use of gadgets, which are then given the title Playing with Friends.

Abstract:
Background Mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, and laptop computers enable users to search for information and communicate with others at any place and any time. Such devices are increasingly being used at universities for teaching and learning. The use of mobile devices by students depends, among others, on the individual media literacy level and the curricular framework. Objective The objective of this study was to explore whether there were differences in media use in students from various curricula at the Faculty of Health, Witten/Herdecke University. Methods During the 2015-16 winter term, a survey was conducted at the Faculty of Health, Witten/Herdecke University, in which a total of 705 students (out of 1091 students; response rate: 705/1091, 64.61%) from 4 schools participated voluntarily: medicine (346/598), dentistry (171/204), psychology (142/243), and nursing science (46/46). The questionnaire developed for the study included 132 questions on 4 topics: (1) electronic and mobile devices (19 questions), (2) communication and organization of learning (45 questions), (3) apps/programs/websites/media (34 questions), and (4) media literacy (34 questions). The questionnaire was distributed and anonymously completed during in-class courses. Results Students from all 4 schools had at least two electronic devices, with smartphones (97.4%, 687/705) and laptops (94.8%, 669/705) being the most common ones. Students agreed that electronic devices enabled them to effectively structure the learning process (mean 3.16, SD 0.62) and shared the opinion that university teaching should include imparting media literacy (mean 2.84, SD 0.84). Electronic device ownership was the highest among medical students (mean 2.68, SD 0.86) and medical students were the only ones to use a tutorial (36.1%, 125/346). Dental students most widely used text messages (mean 3.41, SD 0.49) and social media (mean 2.57, SD 1.10) to organize learning. Psychology students considered mobile devices to be most ineffective (mean 2.81, SD 0.83). Nursing science students used emails (mean 3.47, SD 0.73) and desktop computers (39%, 18/46) most widely. Conclusions The results show that almost all students use electronic learning (e-learning) tools. At the same time, different profiles for different degree programs become apparent, which are to be attributed to not only the varying curricula and courses but also to the life circumstances of different age groups. Universities should, therefore, pay attention to the diverse user patterns and media literacy levels of students when planning courses to enable successful use of e-learning methods.

Sport is a global social phenomenon which is determined by a variety of different processes, including: the fast development of the industrial society and capital, an increase in leisure time, the development of a liberal democracy and the media. A special feature in these relations is the overall globalization process in today’s world. The basic structure of this paper is made up of two functional parts. In the first part we indicate the dominant theoretical-methodological paradigms in studying sport in social sciences, especially sociology: functionalism, conflict theory in society, interpretive and postmodern theory. In the second part of the paper we analyze the dialectics of contemporary relations between sport and society, where special attention is dedicated to the distribution of social power between sport, capital and the media at the local and global level. At the local level especially, there is a pronounced influence of politics on sport, which is realized through various mechanisms of government power, as well as other political subjects. The most solid bonds between sport and society on both levels are maintained by capital and the media, which know no boundaries. Through ownership and mechanisms of financing sports clubs and associations, athletes and athletic events, an entire network of capitalist relations in sport was created. Sport has become one of the most important factors of television programs, the internet and social networks, which has led to an enormous growth in profit and popularity of sport, but also to great changes in the social relations between people.

Abstract:
Presented study sheds light on the developments of political representation at municipal level and tries to identify the sources of its fragmentation. These sources are vested in electoral laws, in development of national party system and in public distrust towards partisan candidates including changes in decision-making dynamics of the electorate. All mentioned factors shape the popular preference to support independent candidates in achieving municipal offices. This phenomenon gained on intensity between 2002 and 2018. The trend of ever-increasing support for civic and non-partisan candidates also introduces practical implications and risks in terms of lacking effective governing, transparency and of municipal policy control. Factors such as: non-existence of integrative organizational basis for political decision making, low levels of civic skills or elusive ownership structure of regional media. Most importantly, it is the inability of established political parties to maintain the functionality of democratic institutions in terms of public administration. All these factors increase the risks of decision-making at municipal level. Such development is part of deepening crisis of trust in political parties and leads to risks of forming a defect democracy.

Abstract:
Tulisan ini menggarisbawahi dan menyimpulkan bahwa dalam penyelesaian konflik agraria dalam kajian hak asasi manusia harus melibatkan banyak pihak, salah satunya Komnas HAM.Land disputes in many places trigger various conflicts, whether between community groups, communities and entrepreneurs, or communities with the government. In many cases in Indonesia, agrarian conflict is closely related to the failure of the fulfilment of citizens' rights by the government, both at the local and national level. Land ownership and legal certainty in agrarian issues in Indonesia refer to and refer to Law No. 5 of 1960 concerning Basic Agrarian Principles Regulation (UUPA). Agrarian reform (Land Reform) is one form of implementation of the law, including a change in the structure of ownership of land ownership which is not only interpreted as a political but also a technical meaning. This paper analyse the activities of land reforms in Indonesia in the study of human rights, including the land dispute resolution process. The method used in this paper is normative juridical, where the study only covers the norms and legal basis used in agrarian dispute resolution in various cases. The cases used in this study are not direct field search results, but cases that have already occurred in various regions were obtained through print or online media. This paper emphasizes that the agrarian dispute resolution process in many cases in Indonesia has not met the standards of fulfilment of human rights, such as the existence of forced efforts and acts of violence from the government, repressive, discriminatory and intimidating attitudes. This paper underlines and concludes that the resolution of agrarian conflicts in the study of human rights must involve many parties, one of which is the National Human Rights Commission.

Abstract:
Purpose This paper provides an overview of the Aztec 13 – the top 13 multinational enterprises in Mexico. Different from research that groups countries and regions, the purpose of the paper is to deliver a nuanced picture of these multinationals in terms of their key characteristics and the strategies they follow when they internationalize. Design/methodology/approach All data sources that have been identified and reviewed are documents, printed and electronic. The Aztec multilatinas were identified using Forbes Global 2000 (2017). Other data sources such as media texts, company annual reports, reports filed with the Mexican Stock Exchange and the US Securities and Exchange Commission, as well as investor presentations, were collected and analyzed. Data sources were published in English and Spanish. The analytic procedure adopted entailed identifying, selecting, making sense of and synthesizing the data contained in the documents. Findings Aztec multilatinas have specific characteristics which, to a great extent, influence their internationalization strategies. Characteristics include the geographical location of their headquarters, their origin and history, their ownership structure and ties with families and government. These factors, combined, help to describe in greater nuance the internationalization strategies and activities of the Aztec 13. Such a detailed and focused description is a first necessary step for subsequent potential theorizing. Originality/value This paper contributes to the vibrant scholarly conversation on multinational enterprises from less researched regions and countries. Latin America is such a region and Mexico is such a country. Focusing on a single country and its top 13 multinationals allow a comprehensive description and disciplined analysis, with no dangerous generalizations to large regions and even larger settings such as emerging markets multinationals and with no false claims for theorizing.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to further develop the conceptualization of music consumption in the digital age by examining how contemporary music listening is interweaved with other practices, how it shapes those practices and how it is in turn shaped by them. Design/methodology/approach The paper draws on extensive, qualitative interviews with 15 Swedish music consumers. During the course of these interviews, specific situations of everyday music listening were discussed in detail. Findings Drawing on practice theory and more specifically the concepts of dispersed and integrative practices, the authors identify and explore a mode of music listening that they term soundtracking, which involves choosing and listening to music mainly to accompany other everyday practices. Research limitations/implications As soundtracking grows in importance, music is increasingly consumed as an affective-practical resource. Its significance is then not derived from its ability to demarcate difference and construct consumer identities but from its capacity to evoke emotions and moods than enable and enrich a set of everyday practices. Practical implications When music is consumed as part of soundtracking, issues such as the audio quality of music or ownership of material music media become less important, while aspects such as mobility, accessibility and the adaptability of music increase in importance. This has important implications for how and what music should be produced and marketed. Originality/value This paper offers an alternative view of contemporary music consumption compared to previous research, which has considered music listening primarily as an integrative practice on which the practitioner is fully focussed. The paper also contributes to practice theory by offering an empirically based understanding of a dispersed practice, showing that such practices are neither without shape nor necessarily very simple in their structure.

Abstract:
Land is a fundamental natural resource for living, an economic asset for production, legal entity with multiple rights over it and above all, a societal factor for self-actualization. So, ownership of land has multi-faceted understanding around the world. For the developing country like Nepal having diverse societal arrangements, land tenure system plays important role in economic, social and political structure. As Nepal is in the process of implementing federalization, assessment of land tenure security shall be one of the instruments for developing new land related policies and assessing the effect of new policies afterward. The objective of this paper is to perform SWOT analysis on the status of land tenure security in Nepal by reviewing the history of the tenure system and current tenure system, studying country reports and research papers and analyzing policies and institutions. The study shows that despite some initiatives by government, NGOs, bilateral agencies and media to improve land tenure security, land tenure insecurity prevails in all areas of the country even in registered lands. It is found that stable rganization, registration of most of the built-up and cultivated land, advocacy to protect the right of landless has strengthened the land tenure security. However, the tenure rights of socially and economically disadvantaged people and displaced people from disasters have not been properly addressed and those people are at high risk of eviction from the place they are living. The study recommends that land tenure insecurity arising from political, legislative and organizational behavior should be managed by appropriate interventions and policy reforms. As most of the analyses of land tenure security in Nepal have been performed in a descriptive way, this study explicitly investigates the issue through SWOT analysis.

Abstract:
Over the past decade, television has proven its political, economic, and cultural worth as the most influential mass media in South Asia. Taking Bangladesh as a vantage point, the article shows how informal political and economic affiliations have become crucial factors for media development in South Asia. Particularly, the article dissects the ownership structures and the formal and informal politics of licensing private television by Bangladeshi governments between 1995 and 2019 in contesting India’s regional media hegemony with harnessing a powerful indigenous ‘politico-commercial nexus’. Based on field-based research, this study reveals multiple areas of political struggle, regional contestation, and democratic deficits in the television industry. The findings widen our understanding beyond the bureaucratic processes of media regulation, revealing the deeper problem of unipolar political preconditioning and the increasingly authoritarian nature of the state vis-à-vis the ownership of media and its diminishing prospects for voicing plural and contending political perspectives.
