Abstract:
An unusual combination of median nerve’s variations has been encountered in a male cadaver during routine educational dissection. In particular, the median nerve was formed by five roots; three roots originated from the lateral cord of the brachial plexus joined individually the median nerve’s medial root. The latter (fourth) root was united with the lateral (fifth) root of the median nerve forming the median nerve distally in the upper arm and not the axilla as usually. In addition, the median nerve was situated medial to the brachial artery. We review comprehensively the relevant variants, their embryologic development and their potential clinical applications.

Abstract:
In the prophylaxis of migraine β-blockers are commonly used. In the therapy of tension headache (TH) the use of tricyclic antidepressives is widespread. Therefore, from a rational point of view, one should combine an antidepressive and a β-blocker in the treatment of combination headache (CH), in which patients have both migraine and TH. In an open uncontrolled study, 61 patients with CH received a combination of an antidepressive (amitriptyline or amitriptyline- N-oxide and a β-blocker (propranolol or metoprolol) for at least 3 months. The 61 patients kept a diary in which they recorded frequency and duration of migraine attacks and tension headaches. The median migraine attack frequency decreased in the 3 months from four to two and the mean attack duration per month from 2 to 0.7 days. TH frequency was reduced from a median of 21 days to 6 days; TH duration fell from a median of 21 days to 2.7 days. At first sight, this treatment appears to be highly effective, at least when judged by the results at the group level. Nevertheless, in an open uncontrolled study like this, one must be aware of many problems, which are discussed in detail.

Abstract:
PURPOSE The combination of cisplatin, epirubicin, and leucovorin preceding fluorouracil (PELF) includes three novel agents compared with the standard combination of fluorouracil, doxorubicin, and mitomycin (FAM) in the treatment of advanced gastric carcinoma. We report the results of a prospective randomized comparison of the two combinations in previously untreated patients. PATIENTS AND METHODS One hundred thirty assessable patients were entered onto the trial; 52 received FAM and 85 PELF. A 1:2 unbalanced randomization in favor of the experimental treatment was chosen. Approximately 90% of patients had measurable tumor masses. RESULTS The overall response rates (complete responses [CRs] and partial responses [PRs]) were 15% and 43% for the FAM and the PELF regimens, respectively, with a statistically significant advantage for the experimental treatment (P = .001). Time to progression (median, 2.6 and 4.7 months), duration of response (median, 10.7 and 10.2 months), and survival durations (median, 5.6 and 8.1 months) were not significantly different between the FAM and PELF regimens, respectively. The PELF combination was more toxic compared with FAM, but generally tolerable. CONCLUSION This study showed that the PELF combination is about three times more effective than the FAM combination in inducing objective responses. Due to tolerability, it is not recommended for routine clinical use. However, it should be considered, among other second-generation chemotherapy combinations, in future randomized studies aimed to improve the therapeutic outcome in gastric carcinoma.

Abstract:
A variety of fecal immunochemical tests (FITs) are used for colorectal cancer screening. FIT performance could be improved further. It is unclear, whether the combination of different FITs with different analytical characteristics (such as, different antibodies for the detection of fecal hemoglobin) can yield a better diagnostic performance. Fecal samples were obtained from 2042 participants of screening colonoscopy. All participants with advanced neoplasm (AN, colorectal cancer (n = 16) or advanced adenoma (n = 200)) and 300 randomly selected participants without AN were included. Nine quantitative FITs were evaluated simultaneously. Sensitivity and specificity was calculated for single tests (n = 9) and for their pairwise test combinations (n = 36) (requiring either both FITs (P++) or at least one FIT (P+) to be positive for defining a positive test result). Mean age of the participants (n = 516) was 63 (range: 50–79) years and 56% were men. At cutoffs yielding a specificity of 96.7% for single FITs, the median gain in specificity by P++ combination was +1.0%, whereas the median loss in sensitivity for AN was −4.2%. For P+ combination the median gain in sensitivity for AN was +2.8%, at a prize of median loss of −1.0% of specificity. Combinations of different FITs do not yield any relevant gain in diagnostic performance.

Abstract:
Reconstruction of composite defects of the posterior thigh and knee is challenging. Pedicled medial gastrocnemius flaps are the traditional reconstructive approach, but late contractures related to skin grafted muscle may affect knee function. More recently, the medial sural artery perforator (MSAP) flap has been described for such defects, although may necessitate skin grafting of the donor site. To minimise the drawbacks with these options, we describe a combination of a median superficial sural artery perforator (MSSAP) flap and MSAP flap. This allows both tension free closure of the donor site without skin grafting, and facilitates coverage of a round defect by splitting the flap into two adjacent triangular flaps. This is the first report of posterior thigh defect reconstruction with a combination of MSSAP and MSAP flaps.

In order to reduce Gaussian and Salt & Pepper noises, a combination approach to noise reduction is presented by combining the median filter with the mean filter. The detail simulations show that the mode which the median filtering first and then the mean filtering is superior to that of the simply single filtering, or the mean filtering first and then the median filtering when the image obviously contain the Salt & Pepper noise. On the other hand, it is not necessarily the optimal scheme to use the mode which the mean filtering first and then the median filtering when the digital image obviously contains the Gaussian noise.

Abstract:
16037 Background: Recent evidence suggests gemcitabine combined with a platinum drug is active in recurrent ovarian cancer. In an effort to decrease dose-limiting myelosuppression associated with gemcitabine plus carboplatin, cisplatin can be substituted for carboplatin. Our objective is to describe a single institutional experience with day 1 and day 15 (D1/15) gemcitabine (1000 mg/m2) and cisplatin (30 mg/m2) for the treatment of recurrent ovarian cancer. Methods: A retrospective chart review was performed of all patients with recurrent epithelial ovarian, fallopian tube, and primary peritoneal cancer who were treated with gemcitabine and cisplatin from 8/2001 through 8/2006 at a single institution. Sixty-seven patients met inclusion criteria. Results: The median number of prior chemotherapy regimens was 2 (range 1–6). The median platinum-free treatment interval was 10 months (range 0–40). While 34 (51%) patients were platinum sensitive, 24 (36%) patients were platinum resistant, and 9 patients (13%) were platinum refractory. Patients were treated with a median of 6 cycles (range 1–31) of gemcitabine plus cisplatin. Fifteen (22%) patients had a complete clinical response with a median progression free survival (PFS) of 16 months (range 5–40); 15 (22%) patients had a partial clinical response (median PFS 6 months, range 2–15). Stable disease was noted in 19 patients, with a median PFS of 24 months (range 4–36). Three (38%) out of eight patients with refractory ovarian cancer had a complete clinical response, and 1 patient had a partial response. Non-hematologic toxicities were most common, occurring in 23% of the patient population (neuropathy, fatigue and pain). Grade 3 and 4 hematologic toxicities were rare, occurring in less than 10% of patients. Conclusions: Gemcitabine plus cisplatin (D1/15) is a well tolerated and active regimen in patients with recurrent ovarian cancer, regardless of previous response to platinum-based chemotherapy. No significant financial relationships to disclose.

Abstract:
„konečné lomové mechaniky“ a teorie sdružených asymptotických rozvojů. Studován je především vztah mezi ohybem trhliny podél rozhraní a její případnou pentrací do základního materiálu. Veškeré potřebné výpočty jsou prováděny v matematických softwarech MAPLE 10.0, MATLAB 7.1 a konečnoprvkovém systému ANSYS 10.0.

Romanidis, Petros. "An investigation into the effects of different media combinations on the learning achieved in carrying out computer-based practical tasks." Thesis, Loughborough University, 2006. https://dspace.lboro.ac.uk/2134/7835.

Full text
Abstract:
Four different computer-based media combinations - Text-only, Text + Diagrams, Spoken Text + Diagrams, and Text + Video material - have been created to instruct participants how to carry out the practical task of removing and installing both a video card and a CPU chip in a computer system. The four presentations are based upon identical teaching material. Tests were constructed to measure the amount of knowledge gained both in the theoretical and in the practical parts of the experiment. An interactive facility was provided which allowed participants to move forwards and backwards in the material so that the effects of interactivity (or lack of it) could be investigated in relation to the media combinations used. In addition, student learning style was measured and the effects of the four presentations on students with different learning styles were investigated. A practical domain was chosen because most previous work has mainly been on theoretical domains (such as statistics) or on animated examples of simple systems (such as braking systems). Two experiments have been designed and carried out. The first experiment was a pilot study which used 24 participants. Its results were used to improve the design of the second experiment by improving the material presented and the knowledge tests and adjusting the complexity of the questions used in the test. The second experiment was a more extensive one in which 80 participants took part. These results showed that text-only material was not as effective in delivering the teaching material to the participants compared with the other presentations. However, when interactivity was introduced, the text-only participants were able to improve their performance considerably by moving extensively between scenes. The addition of video material did not improve the learning performance in the completion of the practical tasks, in comparison with the other media combinations and this may have been due to a redundancy effect. Finally, learning style (regarding the sensing/intuitive learners) did result in significant learning performance differences, but these were not due to the media combinations used. An examination of performance of sensing and intuitive learners over the theoretical and practical aspects of the test suggested that the difference may be due to intuitors' preference for theoretical material and sensors' preference for practical material. Further research work is proposed to investigate further the effects observed.

Abstract:
There is little information about mixing music for 9.1 surround, and the information available are mostly for classical music and the use of ambience in the height channels. The production methods for pop music differs from classical music and the productions does not have to sound realistic. In this study, a solo pop guitar was recorded and placed in the center channel. A 9.1 surround playback environment was created and two short delays were added to increase the perceived width of the guitar and shifted between the front L,R speakers, the back L,R, the front height L,R and back height L,R. A listening test was conducted where subjects compared how they perceived the different delay positions. The results showed that the positions were perceived very differently and depends on the listener, although some tendencies were found. The front position was perceived as broader and had were generally rated highest. The front height position was also described as broad but also bright and distinctive. The back position was generally rated lowest and perceived as thin and dull. The back-height position was perceived as dull and to have more bass.

Abstract:
Monstrous Beings of Media Cultures examines the monsters and sinister creatures that spawn from folk horror, Gothic fiction, and from various sectors of media cultures. The collection illuminates how folk monsters form across different art and media traditions, and interrogates the 21C revitalization of “folk” as both a cultural formation and aesthetic mode. The essays explore how combinations of vernacular and institutional creative processes shape the folkloric and/or folkoresque attributes of monstrous beings, their popularity, and the contexts in which they are received. While it focuses on 21C permutations of folk monstrosity, the collection is transhistorical in approach, featuring chapters that focus on contemporary folk monsters, historical antecedents, and the pre-C21st art and media traditions that shaped enduring monstrous beings. The collection also illuminates how folk monsters and folk “horror” travel across cultures, media, and time periods, and how iconic monsters are tethered to yet repeatedly become unanchored from material and regional contexts.

Abstract:
AbstractThis chapter proposes a reformulation and rebalancing of the standard liberal economic growth and development model by integrating key institutional dimensions of the social contract into the heart of macroeconomic theory. Specifically, it defines an extensive ecosystem of policy and institutional features that have an important bearing on the rate and breadth of progress in household living standards, categorizing them in five principal policy domains. These are represented as an economy’s “factors of distribution” and modelled as a system—an aggregate distribution function analogous to the aggregate production function. This model of the main channels by which rising living standards propagate in an economy is accompanied by a map of related domains of enabling policy and institutional strength. This policy and institutional ecosystem is the practical manifestation of a country’s social contract—how it translates its values with respect to inclusion, sustainability and resilience into the rules of the game within its economy. The aggregate distribution function is the de facto income distribution system or “living standards diffusion mechanism” of modern market economies. It is the combination and indeed interaction of the aggregate distribution and production functions of an economy that determine its progress in median household living standards. Macroeconomic theory and policy should be refocused on the goal of increasing the aggregate social welfare, or living standards, of nations rather than solely their GDP, or wealth, by placing equal and parallel emphasis on strengthening the aggregate production and distribution functions of economies. This is the golden rule of human-centred economics.

Abstract:
Abstract Nitrogen alloyed, Ni-free, austenitic stainless steels with more than 1 wt.-% nitrogen are a new group of alloys with promising properties. They exhibit a very interesting combination of high strength and toughness with a high corrosion resistance in various environments. This combination of properties makes this alloy not only suitable for fasteners but also for medical and dental implant applications. This work shows the influence of chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen on the corrosion resistance of Fe25Mn-alloys in media typical for the above mentioned applications. According to these results Fe25Mn-alloys with approximately 20 wt.-% chromium, about 3 wt.-% molybdenum and approximately 1.3 wt.-% nitrogen have an excellent corrosion resistance in Ringer solution, artificial saliva and artificial sweat. The critical pitting temperature (CPT) of 61 °C and the critical crevice temperature (CCT) of 37 °C when tested according to ASTM G-48 A were significantly higher than the well established AISI 316 L stainless steel.

Abstract:
This work presents a comparison between the valuation/depreciation prediction results (from one month to another) of vehicles in Brazil considering the combination of four groups of characteristics: i) previous sales; ii) the number of vehicle sales; iii) basic interest rate; and iv) national consumer price index. We create a comparison baseline training a MultiLayer Perceptron Regressor (MLPR) based only on the vehicle’s value in the previous month, and then we train the MLPR by combining the previous vehicle value with combinations of the characteristic groups. Experiments were performed from 2013 to 2022 and evaluated in terms of Mean Squared Error (MSR) and Median Absolute Error (MAE). The combination of characteristics that presented the best MSR for the 2018-2022 period (COVID-19 period) was among the worst from 2014 to 2017. It is possibly concluded that data scientists must periodically adjust parameters according to the current economic conditions to obtain the best automatic forecast results of the monthly valorization/depreciation of vehicles in Brazil.

In ASME 2014 International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition. American Society of Mechanical Engineers, 2014. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/imece2014-39603.

Full text
Abstract:
In a context in which a succession of crashes involving double combination vehicles has occurred in Mexico during 2012 and 2013, a catastrophic accident occurred on May 7, 2013, burning-killing 27 people whose homes were located adjacent to the road. In this case, the double combination carried Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in both containers, the second of which exploded as a consequence of its decoupling from the vehicle and roll over. The impact of the tractor against the median barrier due to an excessive evasive maneuver sparked a first conflagration due to a fuel leakage, which supplied the heat for the warming and subsequent explosion of the rolled-over container. The cabin of the tractor-semitrailer caught fire but the driver was able to move the vehicle 500 meters away from the crash spot. The analysis suggests that several characteristics of the vehicle and infrastructure could have mitigated or prevented the catastrophic consequences of this event, along with an appropriate response from the emergency response agencies. In particular, both, a B-train vehicular configuration and a vertical barrier could have prevented the occurrence of the fatal roll over.

Full text
Abstract:
Product validation tests are essential all over the design stages of product development. In the automotive industry, laboratory fatigue testing is an accelerated test that is specifically designed to replicate fatigue damage and failure modes potentially found during field driving conditions. The work presented in this paper is mainly focused on hot components of automotive turbocharger, centered on failure due to thermal mechanical fatigue (TMF). A design of experiment (DOE) was run to define the relation between load parameters and the TMF damage. This fatigue damage model is based on the stress approach (Chaboche fatigue model), widely spread in use, to allow computing the damage under a complex duty cycle. A TMF damage transfer function was identified and it is used to select smart lab test parameters and to link that lab test damage, with customer field damage. This relation allows defining accelerated lab test criteria in order to demonstrate customer field reliability requirements. The lab test is composed of an elementary cycle repeated several times and the field duty cycle is defined via the so called “median customer”. The median customer duty cycle is defined as a combination of several elementary driving patterns (country road, city, highway, ...). For each driving sequence, an instrumented turbocharger allows measuring the relevant parameters such as gas temperature, metal temperature, rotating assembly speed... Finally, a smart lab test can be designed and a criterion defined to demonstrate, with a specific confidence level, that the customer reliability requirement is met.

Abstract:
Most policy analyses and academic papers deal with finding the combination of policies that may bring about the best development outcomes. However, in the long run, it is the features of public policies that seem to matter for explaining development outcomes. Unfortunately, Latin America and the Caribbean lags behind other regions in the quality of the features of public policies. Policy features depend on the quality of government institutions, but Latin America and the Caribbean countries have done particularly poorly in that area as well. Not every country, however, fares the same. While a few countries sit alongside the developed world, more than two-thirds of countries in Latin America and the Caribbean score below the median. This policy brief should encourage researchers to use the data, and it may help policymakers to identify which institutions may be reducing the possibility of moving upward and forward. Some of the policy recommendations may help to change current paths.

Chornodon, Myroslava. FEAUTURES OF GENDER IN MODERN MASS MEDIA. Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.30970/vjo.2021.49.11064.

Full text
Abstract:
The article clarifies of gender identity stereotypes in modern media. The main gender stereotypes covered in modern mass media are analyzed and refuted. The model of gender relations in the media is reflected mainly in the stereotypical images of men and woman. The features of the use of gender concepts in modern periodicals for women and men were determined. The most frequently used derivatives of these macroconcepts were identified and analyzed in detail. It has been found that publications for women and men are full of various gender concepts that are used in different contexts. Ingeneral, theanalysisofthe concept-maximums and concept-minimum gender and their characteristics is carried out in the context of gender stereotypes that have been forme dand function in the society, system atizing the a ctual presentations. The study of the gender concept is relevant because it reveals new trends and features of modern gender images. Taking into account the special features of gender-labeled periodicals in general and the practical absence of comprehensive scientific studies of the gender concept in particular, there is a need to supplement Ukrainian science with this topic. Gender psychology, which is served by methods of various sciences, primarily sociological, pedagogical, linguistic, psychological, socio-psychological. Let us pay attention to linguistic and psycholinguistic methods in gender studies. Linguistic methods complement intelligence research tasks, associated with speech, word and text. Psycholinguistic methods used in gender psychology (semantic differential, semantic integral, semantic analysis of words and texts), aimed at studying speech messages, specific mechanisms of origin and perception, functions of speech activity in society, studying the relationship between speech messages and gender properties participants in the communication, to analyze the linguistic development in connection with the general development of the individual. Nowhere in gender practice there is the whole arsenal of psychological methods that allow you to explore psychological peculiarities of a person like observation, experiments, questionnaires, interviews, testing, modeling, etc. The methods of psychological self-diagnostics include: the gender aspect of the own socio-psychological portrait, a gender biography as a variant of the biographical method, aimed at the reconstruction of individual social experience. In the process of writing a gender autobiography, a person can understand the characteristics of his gender identity, as well as ways and means of their formation. Socio-psychological methods of studying gender include the study of socially constructed women’s and men’s roles, relationships and identities, sexual characteristics, psychological characteristics, etc. The use of gender indicators and gender approaches as a means of socio-psychological and sociological analysis broadens the subject boundaries of these disciplines and makes them the subject of study within these disciplines. And also, in the article a combination of concrete-historical, structural-typological, system-functional methods is implemented. Descriptive and comparative methods, method of typology, modeling are used. Also used is a method of content analysis for the study of gender content of modern gender-stamped journals. It was he who allowed quantitatively to identify and explore the features of the gender concept in the pages of periodicals for women and men. A combination of historical, structural-typological, system-functional methods is also implemented in the article. Descriptive and comparative methods, method of typology, modeling are used. A method of content analysis for the study of gender content of modern gender-labeled journals is also used. It allowed to identify and explore the features of the gender concept quantitatively in the periodicals for women and men. The conceptual perception and interpretation of the gender concept «woman», which is highlighted in the modern gender-labeled press in Ukraine, requires the elaboration of the polyfunctionality of gender interpretations, the comprehension of the metaphorical perception of this image and its role and purpose in society. A gendered approach to researching the gender content of contemporary periodicals for women and men. Conceptual analysis of contemporary gender-stamped publications within the gender conceptual sphere allows to identify and correlate the meta-gender and gender concepts that appear in society.

Yatsymirska, Mariya. MODERN MEDIA TEXT: POLITICAL NARRATIVES, MEANINGS AND SENSES, EMOTIONAL MARKERS. Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.30970/vjo.2022.51.11411.

Full text
Abstract:
The article examines modern media texts in the field of political journalism; the role of information narratives and emotional markers in media doctrine is clarified; verbal expression of rational meanings in the articles of famous Ukrainian analysts is shown. Popular theories of emotions in the process of cognition are considered, their relationship with the author’s personality, reader psychology and gonzo journalism is shown. Since the media text, in contrast to the text, is a product of social communication, the main narrative is information with the intention of influencing public opinion. Media text implies the presence of the author as a creator of meanings. In addition, media texts have universal features: word, sound, visuality (stills, photos, videos). They are traditionally divided into radio, TV, newspaper and Internet texts. The concepts of multimedia and hypertext are related to online texts. Web combinations, especially in political journalism, have intensified the interactive branching of nonlinear texts that cannot be published in traditional media. The Internet as a medium has created the conditions for the exchange of ideas in the most emotional way. Hence Gonzo’s interest in journalism, which expresses impressions of certain events in words and epithets, regardless of their stylistic affiliation. There are many such examples on social media in connection with the events surrounding the Wagnerians, the Poroshenko case, Russia’s new aggression against Ukraine, and others. Thus, the study of new features of media text in the context of modern political narratives and emotional markers is important in media research. The article focuses review of etymology, origin and features of using lexemes “cмисл (meaning)” and “сенс (sense)” in linguistic practice of Ukrainians results in the development of meanings and functional stylistic coloring in the usage of these units. Lexemes “cмисл (meaning)” and “сенс (sense)” are used as synonyms, but there are specific fields of meanings where they cannot be interchanged: lexeme “сенс (sense)” should be used when it comes to reasonable grounds for something, lexeme “cмисл (meaning)” should be used when it comes to notion, concept, understanding. Modern political texts are most prominent in genres such as interviews with politicians, political commentaries, analytical articles by media experts and journalists, political reviews, political portraits, political talk shows, and conversations about recent events, accompanied by effective emotional narratives. Etymologically, the concept of “narrative” is associated with the Latin adjective “gnarus” – expert. Speakers, philosophers, and literary critics considered narrative an “example of the human mind.” In modern media texts it is not only “story”, “explanation”, “message techniques”, “chronological reproduction of events”, but first of all the semantic load and what subjective meanings the author voices; it is a process of logical presentation of arguments (narration). The highly professional narrator uses narration as a “method of organizing discourse” around facts and impressions, impresses with his political erudition, extraordinary intelligence and creativity. Some of the above theses are reflected in the following illustrations from the Ukrainian media: “Culture outside politics” – a pro-Russian narrative…” (MP Gabibullayeva); “The next will be Russia – in the post-Soviet space is the Arab Spring…” (journalist Vitaly Portnikov); “In Russia, only the collapse of Ukraine will be perceived as success” (Pavel Klimkin); “Our army is fighting, hiding from the leadership” (Yuri Butusov).

Syvash, Kateryna. AUDIENCE FEEDBACK AS AN ELEMENT OF PARASOCIAL COMMUNICATION WITH SCREEN MEDIA-PERSONS. Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.30970/vjo.2021.49.11062.

Full text
Abstract:
Parasocial communication is defined as an illusory and one-sided interaction between the viewer and the media person, which is analogous to interpersonal communication. Among the classic media, television has the greatest potential for such interaction through a combination of audio and visual series and a wide range of television content – from newscasts to talent shows. Viewers’ reaction to this product can be seen as a defining element of parasociality and directly affect the popularity of a media person and the ratings of the TV channel. In this article we will consider feedback as part of parasocial communication and describe ways to express it in times of media transformations. The psychological interaction «media person – viewer» had been the focus of research by both psychologists and media experts for over 60 years. During the study, scientists described the predictors, functions, manifestations and possible consequences of paracommunication. One of the key elements of the formed parasocial connections is the real audience reaction. Our goal is to conceptualize the concept of feedback in the paradigm of parasocial communication and describe the main types of reactions to the media person in long-term parasocial relationships. The research focuses on the ways in which the viewer’s feedback on the television media person is expressed, bypassing the issue of classifying the audience’s feedback as «positive» and «negative». For this purpose, more than 20 interdisciplinary scientific works on the issue of parasocial interaction were analyzed and their generalization was carried out. Based on previous research, the types and methods of feedback in the television context are separated. With successful parasocial interaction, the viewer can react in different ways to the media person. The type of feedback will directly depend on the strength of the already established communication with the media person. We distinguish seven types of feedback and divide them into those that occur during or after a television show; those that are spontaneous or planned; aimed directly at the media person or third parties. We offer the following types of feedback from TV viewers: «talking to the TV»; telling about the experience of parasocial communication to others; following on social networks; likes and comments; imitation of behavior and appearance; purchase of recommended brands; fanart.

Yatsymirska, Mariya. SOCIAL EXPRESSION IN MULTIMEDIA TEXTS. Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.30970/vjo.2021.49.11072.

Full text
Abstract:
The article investigates functional techniques of extralinguistic expression in multimedia texts; the effectiveness of figurative expressions as a reaction to modern events in Ukraine and their influence on the formation of public opinion is shown. Publications of journalists, broadcasts of media resonators, experts, public figures, politicians, readers are analyzed. The language of the media plays a key role in shaping the worldview of the young political elite in the first place. The essence of each statement is a focused thought that reacts to events in the world or in one’s own country. The most popular platform for mass information and social interaction is, first of all, network journalism, which is characterized by mobility and unlimited time and space. Authors have complete freedom to express their views in direct language, including their own word formation. Phonetic, lexical, phraseological and stylistic means of speech create expression of the text. A figurative word, a good aphorism or proverb, a paraphrased expression, etc. enhance the effectiveness of a multimedia text. This is especially important for headlines that simultaneously inform and influence the views of millions of readers. Given the wide range of issues raised by the Internet as a medium, research in this area is interdisciplinary. The science of information, combining language and social communication, is at the forefront of global interactions. The Internet is an effective source of knowledge and a forum for free thought. Nonlinear texts (hypertexts) – «branching texts or texts that perform actions on request», multimedia texts change the principles of information collection, storage and dissemination, involving billions of readers in the discussion of global issues. Mastering the word is not an easy task if the author of the publication is not well-read, is not deep in the topic, does not know the psychology of the audience for which he writes. Therefore, the study of media broadcasting is an important component of the professional training of future journalists. The functions of the language of the media require the authors to make the right statements and convincing arguments in the text. Journalism education is not only knowledge of imperative and dispositive norms, but also apodictic ones. In practice, this means that there are rules in media creativity that are based on logical necessity. Apodicticity is the first sign of impressive language on the platform of print or electronic media. Social expression is a combination of creative abilities and linguistic competencies that a journalist realizes in his activity. Creative self-expression is realized in a set of many important factors in the media: the choice of topic, convincing arguments, logical presentation of ideas and deep philological education. Linguistic art, in contrast to painting, music, sculpture, accumulates all visual, auditory, tactile and empathic sensations in a universal sign – the word. The choice of the word for the reproduction of sensory and semantic meanings, its competent use in the appropriate context distinguishes the journalist-intellectual from other participants in forums, round tables, analytical or entertainment programs. Expressive speech in the media is a product of the intellect (ability to think) of all those who write on socio-political or economic topics. In the same plane with him – intelligence (awareness, prudence), the first sign of which (according to Ivan Ogienko) is a good knowledge of the language. Intellectual language is an important means of organizing a journalistic text. It, on the one hand, logically conveys the author’s thoughts, and on the other – encourages the reader to reflect and comprehend what is read. The richness of language is accumulated through continuous self-education and interesting communication. Studies of social expression as an important factor influencing the formation of public consciousness should open up new facets of rational and emotional media broadcasting; to trace physical and psychological reactions to communicative mimicry in the media. Speech mimicry as one of the methods of disguise is increasingly becoming a dangerous factor in manipulating the media. Mimicry is an unprincipled adaptation to the surrounding social conditions; one of the most famous examples of an animal characterized by mimicry (change of protective color and shape) is a chameleon. In a figurative sense, chameleons are called adaptive journalists. Observations show that mimicry in politics is to some extent a kind of game that, like every game, is always conditional and artificial.
