Full textThis research investigates the appearance of the mass media structures in the Brazilian information broadcasting scene, proposed to the public by professional and social organizations and also sectors of the public power. These social players are perceived as sources of information, thus they shall been named as Medias of Sources (MS). These MS search to intervene in the traditional press newsmaking and agenda-setting. They are capable to present publicaly the point of view from the socio-political segment which maintains and allows them equally to intervene in the pubic sphere and the formation of the social collective imaginary. This characteristic of the Brazilian informative scene leads to formulate the hypothesis of a transformation not only of the media scene, but also of the journalism, by the aggregation of the sources as producers and diffusers of information. It is a sprout of a journalism of the sources. This thesis shows the diversity of the medias of sources in Brazil, presents their roots and makes a case study on the media structure of the Brazilian Federal Senate, by a sociological analysis of their journalists' informative action in comparison with the traditional press parliament correspondents. The central argument in this research is that the Medias of sources represent a new journalistic paradigm and legitimate the idea of the existence of a jounralism outside of the traditional press, that we can be called Journalism of Sources. This journalism of sources is equivalent to a journalism of influence, which seeks to intervene in the mediatical and social agendas and implies the existence of a new professional territory for journalists. The comparison of professional routines and the individual profile show that the journalist keeps his journalistic values even when he works out of traditional media. As a conclusion, it is possible to talk about the existence of a Journalism of Sources but not of a journalist of the source

Full textThe contemporary occidental society in which we all move is a society influenced by the media. In this context, the predominance of images plays on social perceptions, stereotypes, and inevitably on our way of comprehending a culture. To wonder how Brazil is represented in France will enable us to list its perceptions and to study them in order to link together the media which transport them and their impact on the subsequent collective imagination. Televison, cinema, radio, associations are so many elements necessary to study as they contribute to the dissemination of Brazil's perceptions in France, characterizing it as being the country of music, danse, football, etc. . . This research draws a portrait of occidental society in which show business and consumption are in the heart of any event. Brazil is seen as an illustration (ou example) of such phenomena

Full textThis research paper proposes a semiotic analysis of migrants' political identity based on the case-study of Japanese-Brazilian migrants. While the Japanese started emigrating to Brazil in 1908, subsequent generations of Japanese-Brazilians, referred to as 'Nikkeijin' or 'Nikkei-Brazilians', were officially and legally encouraged to migrate back to Japan in 1990 to pursue unqualified jobs, primarily in the industrial sector. These 'dekasegi', or temporary migrants, eventually prolonged their stay in Japan. By focusing our attention on public and official speeches about migrants, we can get a sense of the latter's emerging presence in both societies' public spaces. Migrants' ethnic media provide a space for representation in the host society and reflect the evolution of their societal status. Brazilian ethnic media in Japan, in particular, has played a major role in the upbringing of the migrant community, offering dekasegi greater visibility in the Japanese public space, long denied until recently. The comparative analysis of both Japanese emigration to Brazil and Japanese-Brazilians' emigration to Japan reveals what it means to be an immigrant across spaces and generations. In effect, we hope to shed a light on the making process of mixed identities as well as national identities. Examining the status of Japanese-Brazilians makes it obvious that in a context of globalization, the definition of both immigrants’ culture and nationals’ culture, remains a political stake for both the sending and the receiving country
