Full textAfrican people, whatever their age are fascinated by highways of communication relating the public, sociocultural, political and religious levels. In Africa, mainly in Congo, the catholic Church would like to use modern media as means of evangelization. Through some historical facts, we can note the modern means used by local churches, that is, radio and television to broadcoast religious programmes. In most of african countries, public or state media keep on broacasting the local churches’s programmes, certainly with some difficulties, till they may get their own instruments. By experience, let us be aware that, a new culture like audiovisual requires a sufficient training so to avoid excess. So, in church, practical theology together with the means of action-research method will be very useful, in view to join knowledge and action, that is to lonk training and the trainer who must be a guide. That practical theology requires the theme of incarnation especially of inculturation because of culture shock between two visions : African tradition based on orality versus on behalf of a mediatic culture. But in spite of modernity, the new culture is to be evangelized so that, it may be a chance for local churches

Full textTHE DISTRIBUTION OF INFORMATION IN THE RURAL AREA OF THE CONGO IS FREQUENTLY INHIBITED, LIMITED AND EVEN PREVENTED BY THE ORGANISATION, THE FUNCTIONING AND THE STRUCTURAL OR SOCIAL LOYALITIES OF THE INDIVIDUALS AND INSTITUTIONS WHO INTERVENE IN THIS DOMAIN. THESE RUPTURES ARE GENERALLY DUE TO THE IGNORANCE OF THE INTENDED RECIPIENT CULTURE. ALSO INAPPROPRIATE POLITICAL POLICIES ARE TO BLAME : THEIR CREATOR ARE RARELY SUFFICIENTLY CONCERNED NEITHER WITH THE COHERENCE OF THEIR DISCOURSE NOR with THE METHODS AND MEANS ESTABLISHED IN THE RURAL AREA. PROJECTS HAVE GENERALLY BEEN SIMPLIFIED TO THE POINT WHERE ONE HAS ATTEMPTED TO SOLVE PROBLEMS OF UTILISATION BY SOLUTIONS PURELY TECHNICAL; WHEREAS THESE ARE THE RESULT SIMPLY OF SOCIO-TECHNICALS MEDIATIONS. OTHER RUPTURES ARE CAUSED BY THE POOR TRAINING OF COMMUNICATION AGENTS WHICH DEVOTES LITTLE TIME NEITHER TO COMMUNICATION ITSELF NOR TO KNOLEDGE OF THE RURAL MILIEU. THIS LACK OF KNOLEDGE IS, MOREVER, THE ROOT CAUSE OF A DEEP GULF BETWEEN INFORMATION DEMANDED AND SUPPLY. FACED WITH AGENTS WHO DO NOT UNDERSTAND THEM AND with INAPPROPRIATE INFORMATION, THE RURAL POPULATION ADOPT ATTITUDES RANGING FROM DEVIATION TO REJECTION. "INFORMATION OF THE RURAL AREA IN THE CONGO, THE CASE OF THE REGIONS OF POOL AND PLATEAUX" IS A STUDY AIMED AT THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE DISTRIBUTION OF INFORMATION. IT HIGHLIGHTS THE NUMEROUS RUPTURES WHICH HINDER, LIMIT OR PREVENT THE DISTRIBUTION OF INFORMATION, INDENTIFIES THEIR PRINCIPAL CAUSES, AND PROPOSES CHANGES AIMED AT A PERFECT HARMONY BETWEEN THE SENDER AND THE RECEIVER OF INFORMATION IN THE RURAL MILIEU. THESE IMPROVMENTS ARE BASED ON NEGOCIATION AND PLACES THE GREAT EMPHASIS ON THE PARTICIPATION OF THE PEASANT IN THE PREPARATION AND DIFFUSION OF THE INFORMATION DESTINED FOR HIS RECEPTION. THE REVALORISATION OF THE RECIPIENT IMPLIES THE TAKING INTO ACCOUNT OF TRADITIONAL INFORMATION SYSTEMS WHICH IN THE CASE OF THE CONGO PLAY A PREDOMINANT ROLE. IT IS NOT A QUESTION, AT THIS LEVEL, OF PRIVILEGING ONE SYSTEM COVER ANOTHER BUT OF RATHER ARRIVING AT A BALANCE IN WHICH EACH MEANS OF INFORMATION AND EACH PARTICIPANT HAS ITS PLACE

Full textFrom a social anthropology of inspiration and phenomenological understanding, this thesis questions the process of emergence, movement and reconstruction of the congolese Revival, which has grown exponentially since the 1970s within and outside of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The perspective adopted is historical (the late fifteenth to date contemporary) and multiple locations (Brussels, Kinshasa, Paris, Toulouse). It is justified by the forms of continuity that give to see this theology of Salvation with the prophecies of precolonial and colonial periods, while inscribed in a vast movement of religious globalization, pentecostalism. It is from this framework that examines the devices of "deliverance", differently implemented in the Congolese revival churches, the arrival of migrants- missionaries in Europe, where the first churches today have 25 years of existence and modes of political participation (DRC), significantly marked by processes of demonization. The different angles of the thesis aim to contribute to the understanding of conflicts in that intrinsic religiosity (Bible/Witchcraft) by considering the different currents and spatiotemporal reconstructions of the declinations Revival as something as memory, irreducible an imaginary or identity issues. The development prospects of the way that religious discourse makes territory then leads to the historical depth of the new missionaries' dynamics that inform the reconstructions observed in migration

This captivating factor is double edged, bcause apart from psychological advantages it brings to sportsmen, it is the cause of many negative effects in our society. Let's conclude like this, because the miraculous results that sportsmen and leaders of congolese clubs expect from it, make that training has lost its worth for developing physical aptitudes of elites of all the sporty disciplines in the congo

Full textThe action of the Scheut missionaries (1908-1919) and the Jesuits (1921-1933) undoubtedly brought about deep changes amongst the Eastern Ding population; but analysing theses changes shows that the encounter between christianity and the native culture took place in a context of misunderstanding. It also brought about diverse and often unforeseen reactions. In order to face the new challenge initiated by the missionaries, the natives observed, appraised and invented new ways to become part of this new order originating in the Western world without jeopardizing their own traditions which they felt were essential to their historic destiny. For them, it meant ensuring the survival of their identity, through strategic choices in the face of threatening "modern ways" imposed on them by the outside world and within a political and economic context that was both restrictive and oppressive. Above all, they tried to avoid a head-on collision which would have been fatal to them. Therefore they used the tool of trickery and the art of simulation in order to protect those cultural and religious areas that appeared essential to their survival

Full textPolitical communication means a transmission process of message whereby political information circulate on both sides of political system and between the latter and the social system. It is specially an exchange of information between the governors and the governed in order to ensure their agreement through the medium of the press. In order to play efficiently that part, and to protect pluralism of information the media should be free. In congo, the media are considered as organs of official expression of the political theory which is the marxism-leninism. They broadcast news sift by censorship and by the supervising information office in order to let the unique party strengthen effect upon everybody and perpetuate one's rule over the country. Full textPeace journalism originated from ideas of specialists of conflict management who proposed to the western journalists a different way to cover news related to conflicts. The goal is to restore peace in countries in crisis. The idea is also to end the kind of journalism that tends to exacerbate the tensions in time of crisis and that they called war journalism. This journalism has the particularity to be focused on the elites, the conflict result and propagandist opinions. However, considered as a commitment to serve a cause, peace journalism has been rejected by some professional of information. While this concept is a source of division in the Western world, in the African context, meaningful experiences were conducted through the creation of radio stations. These radio stations appeared following the Rwanda genocide in 1994. Seen as medias of peace, these stations were implanted by international organizations (UN, Internews, Fondation Hirondelle, Search for Common Ground...) to accompany the after-war reconstruction process in some countries. Thus, some organizations have tried this peace journalism. Based on these experiences, we have initiated an empirical qualitative research to deepen the realization on the implementation of this kind of journalism. To properly conduct our research, we chose the radio station Okapi like case study. Okapi is a radio station of the United Nations in Democratic Republic of Congo. It was created by the UN and Fondation Hirondelle. Through the practices of professionals who work there, we tried to understand how this peace journalism could be implanted and under which conditions. The semi-directed interview, the non-participant observation, the analysis of content and the documentary research were the tools used to achieve this study. At the end of this study, we have extricated different factors that can be considered as advantageous or disadvantageous to the practice of peace journalism. Key words: media of peace, hate media, peace radio, peace journalism, war journalism, Africa, Democratic Republic of Congo, UN, MONUSCO.

Full textThe Berlin Conference of 1884 laid the foundations for relationship between religions and states in Central Africa by instituting the "civilizing mission". In this region, those relationships have always been ambiguous. According to the periods, there was collaboration, mutual support, coexistence, mutual ignorance, oppositions and even persecutions. The relationship between religious missions and the colonial administration and between the Catholic Church and the young independent nations, were a perfect illustration. The “wave” of democratization of the 90’s allowed the adoption of new fundamentals laws similar with the French constitution of 1958 took as a model. The new central African constitutions introduced a new principle, the secularism of state, in the same spirit of the French constitutions of 1946 and 1958. The democratic process also allowed pluralism both political and religious. About religious field, the consecration of religious freedom has promoted the implantation of evangelical movement which has then, knew a rapid growth. The issue of relationships between Evangelical Churches and States in this region of Africa is becoming increasingly important, because of the growing success of this new religious movement and its proximity with political powers. This is a new, recent, rapidly changing situation that challenges many political, institutional, legal and social situations. At the legal level, the failure of the secular model adopted call for a need to make a large part of African custom in the conception of legal texts, which would then allow the construction of a new "African" secularism

Full textAfter decades of monopartism, which was characterized by the influence of the media by the state and the single party, Sub-Saharan African states have chosen the path of pluralistic democracy. It followed the national sovereign conferences in the 90s. These states made the choice of the liberal regime with fundamental freedoms as its guarantees. Freedom of the press, the heart of democracy, is among the recognized freedoms. The exercise of this freedom is to be free of abuse. Thus, to prevent such an abuse, constitutional, law-level and regulatory texts created authorities responsible for the regulation of media. These authorities are part of facilitating tools for the African democracies as "singular" institutions. They are administrative and independent of the unique organic order that flows from the legislative, executive and judicial branches of power. Moreover, to make a legal research on these authorities obliges to focus essentially on practical issues, including media regulatory authorities as an alibi of power or protection of freedoms. Therefore, the thesis is intended to explore the legal grounds and facts in order to make a global critical analysis and proposals for further reforms

Full textThe wind of democratisation which blew in Africa in 1990 involved a democratic opening in Congo-Brazzaville. One of its consequences was the relative freedom found in the world of the press which knew an explosion of the titles then. It was one period of great political effervescence characterized by: the sovereign national conference (1990-1991), the period of transition (1991-1992) followed by the period post-conference (1992-1997). This great political effervescence which characterized this period (1990-1997), often qualified of second democratic experiment after that Congo knew between 1957 and 1963, had involved in its turn a great media activism in the Congolese written press. The various existing newspapers or which came out owing to the democratic opening, accompanied this period by submerging the Congolese public by articles more or less in favour on political information. However, according to the observers of this press, the African week, object of our study, is the only newspaper to be itself comprised in manner not well-wisher. The thesis that we support consists in saying that the African Week displayed a behavior nonin favour in the political data processing. In other words it is a question of showing through the quantitative and qualitative approaches, the behavior nonin favour of which it made watch in the political data processing in Congo between 1990 and 1997

Full textThis research work aims at analyzing the developments of contempory capitalism caused by information and communication technologies (ICT). The purpose is to demonstrate that ICT exacerbate the widespread and multiple social crisis of the early twenty first century. This crisis dates back to the 1970’s with the third industrial revolution also called microelectronics and microcomputer revolution. Bulding on critical theory, the thesis emphasizes the fact that the crisis, intensified by digital sector, tends to the self destruction of capital. Dialectically, self destruction is, on the one hand, synonymous with omnipotence and dangerous accumulation of dominations. On the other hand, is outburst of destructions. These can observed from three points of view : destruction of society and commun world linked to institutionalization of the crime accentuated by mass media and ICT ; destruction of work – at the heart of capital crisis – and human being due to large automatization by high tech ; destruction of the environment caused by digital industry. Illegal exploitation of natural resources required by electronic production induces geopolitical conflicts. A focus is set on mass killing in Democratic Republic of Congo. The purpose of the thesis is observing how the structural crisis of digital capitalism leads, via full domination, to destruction of life

Full textArticulated mainly around the Congolese Episcopal speech, this research focuses on the joints of religion and politics in a limited perspective to Catholicism in the DRC. Taking as empirical basis Kinshasa, she thematizes the effects of religious dynamics on social fermentations and policy changes in an authoritarian context. This is, in this work, problematized as Partner of state institution and the Catholic religious organization. The choice of this relational approach based on the interaction between religion and politics, allows to place this work in the field of study of Religious Studies. The approach is also based on the advances in political sociology and illuminates the religious regulation policy, rarely studied by the humanities. This research is therefore the intersection between history, sociology, political science, anthropology, discourse analysis and theology. Its central thesis is organized around a central question: how religion she participates in the policy of regulation in the context of authoritarianism characteristic of the DRC? The answer to this question crosses functional approach to religion and the analysis of institutional statements by the Congolese bishops. It outlines the relationship between on the one hand, and socio-political events and contexts other, speech and religious practices. It built the religious scene from the sociopolitical, economic and cultural trajectory of the DRC between 1990-2015, Under the Presidents J.-D. Mobutu L.-D. Kabila and J. Kabila. She studies the normative sense to offer their eminences J.-A. Malula, F. Etsou and L. Monsengwo. The analysis of the rhetoric of the episcopate on elections plausibility checks social and political efficiency of the Congolese Bishops' word. The resource in the pragmatics of communication as implemented in the argumentative discourse analysis R. Amossy and in the political discourse of P. Charaudeau. By putting the focus on linguistic object "truth of the polls", the research raises the normative, legal and ethics, institutionalization problem of the rule of law in the DRC. Elaborations on this last level revolve around the inclusion of ethics in political action. The review of conventional modes of action of Christians (2006 elections and 2011) and unconventional (on Christians in 1992 and 2012) led to enlighten reproduction modes or challenge to the state authoritarianism by the religious organization. It helps promote democracy values and action backed parrhesia. The introduction of the alethic in public life gives you the Congolese Episcopal ethopoïétique speech as a speech. It is on this point that M. Foucault elaborations on parrhesia help thematize the ability of religion to inform and influence the democratization of the DRC. From there, the request made for a new system of institutional action of the religious organization, capable of promoting the courage of truth in authoritarian situation. This innovation allows to hold together the democratic values and the values of the Gospel, by correlating the consistency axiological, moral probity and existential integrity of the protagonists of democratization of the DRC.

The deterioration of relations and the fragility of cohesion between several social groups in the DR Congo date back to 1958, shortly before the country’s independence in 1960. Since then, socio-political conflicts have profoundly affected ethnic relations and economic conditions have even worsened. Since its independence, the country has gone through many periods of conflict, without any lasting peace. From 1960 to 1964, frequent secession wars, rebellions and inter-ethnic conflicts have destabilized the entire social structure of the country. Attempts for reconciliation have had mixed results and sometimes short-lived solutions. The 1965 coup plunged the country further into violence: power ended up in the hands of members of the sole ruling party and the management of public assets got entrusted to select members of influential ethnic groups. Frustrations and lack of distributive justice engendered insurrections and popular uprisings, which were often quelled by bloody repression. Attempts to democratization since 1990 have not restored the balance of powers. Several ethnic groups, feeling unfavourably treated, have become radicalized and have used deadly violence in support of their claims. The situation has hardly improved since the end of dictatorship and persists even these days. Yet, history shows that in the DR Congo, ethnic groups had a traditional system of resolving various kinds of conflicts. Through a field survey, we have reconstructed the process which usually brought about lasting reconciliation, since it was grounded in community consultations under a palaver tree. Accounts by participants in our survey suggest that such traditional practices of reconciliation have demonstrated their efficiency. From the theological perspective of an inculturation of the Gospel, they can be reinterpreted and adapted, then integrated into the life of the Church and into its mission of reconciliation in the DR Congo. In this dissertation, we propose a Christian and contextualized model of reconciliation, grounded in the traditional practices and rites of the Baluba. To constitute its essential components, we have critically selected traditional elements which have shown their potential for peace. We have then correlated them with elements from a narrative analysis of the reconciliation between Jacob and Esau (Gen. 32–33) and its Christian reinterpretation through the teachings of Jesus (Mt 5. 21-26) and Paul (2 Co 5. 11-21). This contextualized Christian model is being proposed to the Church and its partners for implementation within the Christian community, including the Baluba, and within the entire Congolese society. The first step of this implementation process will consist of the raising of awareness and of consultations, thus leading to practical and actual experiences of reconciliation in local communities, which, in turn, will serve as a source of inspiration at further levels. The approach taken here also invites continued interdisciplinary reflections on lasting reconciliation grounded in traditional African cultural practices.
