Full text. Thus, the media became a hegemonic tool and journalists accepted working under the ideological pressure with the belief that they could not be successful unless they played the game according the rules. It was with these changes that the deunionization has emerged. Bosses aimed at decreasing the power of the union at the workplace and pulverize workers&rsquo
reaction. This study presents the results of a field study consisting of a survey of 285 journalists among which there are unionised as well as non-unionised members and in-depth interviews with 35 journalists who occupy posts such as editors, chief editors or managers. The study reveals that most journalists choose not to become a member of a union due to the fear of losing their jobs. Factors such as the structure of the media, the employment legislation and the organisation of the unions are also important in understanding the journalists&rsquo
conception of unionization. Furthermore, the lack of class consciousness among journalists also causes denunionazation in the media sector. Today, most journalists believe that they belong to the elite class of the society just like the media proprietors. Therefore, it becomes inevitable for them to represent their bosses&rsquo
class and act according to the media group&rsquo
s expectations and business interests.

Full textThis is a case study of the music channel MTV and it’s impact on the Swedish mediascape. We want to look into the process that lies behind this huge intercontinental corporation. Through literature studies we present the mechanism’s that paved the way for MTV growing into the number one music channel of modern time. To investigate how MTV was received in Sweden, we analyse articles taken from databases providing us with essential information about how Swedish journalist’s debate the issue. To show an assumed development within the Swedish mediascape we are using two different time periods, the first represents the year 1993 through to 1995 and the second, 2000 through 2003. These time periods are also used within statistical research included in this paper. This part shows the differences between MTV and other music channels that are competitors in the Swedish mediascape. Altogether these parts helps us to bring out topics that hopefully gives answers to our main quandary – what kind of effect has MTV had on the Swedish mediascape?

Sibiya, Nkululeko. "Bring back the signal: an evaluation of the existence of a digital public sphere in the South African mediascape." Thesis, 2017. https://hdl.handle.net/10539/24426.
Full textOn the 12th of February 2015, in an unprecedented move, members of the media in South Africa (SA) protested in Parliament and chanted “bring back the signal”, waving their smartphones in the air after discovering that a signal jamming device had been activated to disrupt cell phone signals in the National Assembly. Their protest denied President Jacob Zuma the opportunity to deliver his State of the Nation Address (SONA) until the signal and connection to the internet had been restored. It was the first time in the History of democratic SA the SONA was disrupted. The presence as well as the rapid spread and use of new media technologies in the SA mediascape has led scholars like Yu-Shan Wu to question the nature of their use and impact on government policy decisions. This study contributes to such work as well as long standing debates about the role of new media technologies in advancing democratic ideals in emerging democracies and the internet’s role as a public sphere. It does this by using a case study research method focusing on SONA 2015 to evaluate whether the South African digital space constitutes a digital public sphere. This paper concludes that indeed the South African digital space does constitute a form of digital public sphere. This sphere is largely operated and structured by news media organisations that use their websites, social media and various online platforms to engender it.

Barreto, Cristiana Coelho Paes. "Representações de estruturas de acolhimento para refugiados: o centro de Paris-Nord no telejornal francês." Master's thesis, 2017. http://hdl.handle.net/10362/27095.
Full textThe following research stems from the opening of a refugee shelter in northern Paris in November 2016, inaugurated by Mayor Anne Hidalgo, and proposes to analyze the representations of this phenomenon on French television news. Due to its status as the largest refugee center in an European capital, and because it was built as a “humanitarian alternative” to several precarious encampments that were settling in Paris – particularly in the interstices of the 10º and the 19º arrondissement, near the neighborhoods of Jaurès and Stalingrad – the announcement of this structure in the spring of 2016 triggered an important production of audiovisual content. Considering that mass media platforms are a privileged space for the formulation of collective meanings, and that discourses related to the reception of refugees have circulated in an extensive manner on French television, it seems relevant to examine how this public initiative of the municipality was portrayed from an anthropological perspective. Thus, based on a corpus of news reports originating from the most important French TV information channels, we intend to answer to the following question: what are the main discursive mechanisms used to formulate the representations of the Paris-Nord Center on the French mediascape? Through the development of this issue, we seek to contribute to a broader reflection on the representation of host structures for refugees in France.
