Abstract The article explores how Victorian visual culture was a vital force in the construction and dissemination of medical theories on the connection between climate and health. During the nineteenth century, the seemingly inexplicable and deadly nature of many epidemic diseases compelled British medics to investigate all possible reasons for their spread. Focusing on cholera, the article will examine how, in an effort to understand what was seen at the time as a mysterious disease, Victorian medics increasingly concentrated on the climate of India and unusual weather in Britain as propagators of the malady. Supplementing the dominant miasma theory, medics explained how the seemingly airborne sources of cholera resulted from a state of England’s air that resembled the tropical environment of the subcontinent. In an effort to highlight the correlation between cholera and the atmosphere, they produced medical climatology reports containing diagrams that juxtaposed the data on the disease’s mortality rates with measurements of meteorological phenomena. These images, rather than serving simply as illustrations, became a crucial part of medical arguments. As the article will demonstrate, in attempting to visualize the medical climatology of cholera, the diagrams mapped the disease to certain atmospheric conditions, suggesting that cholera could be quantified and controlled. Yet, in doing so, the images also implied that cholera had a real material presence in the air of Britain, powerfully evoking visual tropes of the disease as a substance that had the potential to contaminate the very landscape of the nation.

Climatotherapy is prescribed for the purpose of General strengthening effects on the body, to stimulate its defenses, increase non-specific resistance, especially in chronic or sluggish pathological processes. The effect of climate therapy is manifested in the body's responses to environmental factors, the main condition of which is the use of physiologically based methods of dosing climate procedures. The bioclimatic station (BCS) of the resort of Yevpatoria carries out meteorological observations of medical orientation and their dosing. The creation of a modern center of climatotherapy, as a scientific-clinical Department of medical climatology on the basis of the BCS will allow to organize a single service on introduction of modern methods of climatotherapy in Evpatoria and the Republic of Crimea, improve the quality of the holiday of climateprotection and effectiveness of climatotherapy.

To assess the influence of the climatic and weather patterns at the South Coast of Crimea (SCC) on the effectiveness of health resort medical rehabilitation of patients with lung diseases (LD).Materials and methods. A study carried in a group of 197 patients with LD. The influence of climatic and weather patterns at the SCC were assessed using the methods developed by the Academician Research Institute of Physical Methods of Treatment, Medical Climatology and Rehabilitation named after I.M. Sechenov – modified clinical index on weather pathogenicity and medical rehabilitation assessment according to the criteria of the “International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health” (ICF).Results. Regression equations for the dynamics of the ICF domains b280, b430, b4303 and for the mean value of all domains on the values of air temperature, wind speed, cloudiness, and air temperature variability have been developed, which allow to reliably form a rehabilitation prognosis for patients with LD for all terms of health resort treatment in the SCC.Conclusion. The use of modernized clinical indices of weather pathogenicity allows one to adequately assess and predict the effect of weather dynamics and form a rehabilitation prognosis for patients with LD.

Abstract. Toward the goal of linking wind shear with the mesoscale organization of deep convection, a procedure for producing a climatology of tropical wind shear from the output of the Met Office Unified Model climate model is presented. Statistical information from wind profiles from tropical grid columns is used to produce a tractable number (10) of profiles that efficiently span the space of all wind profiles. Physical arguments are used to filter wind profiles that are likely to be associated with organized convection: only grid columns with substantial convective available potential energy (CAPE) and those with shear in the upper quartile are considered. The profiles are rotated so that their wind vectors at 850 hPa are aligned, in order to be able to group like profiles together, and their magnitudes at each level are normalized. To emphasize the effect of lower levels, where the organization effects of shear are thought to be strongest, the profiles above 500 hPa are multiplied by 14. Principal component analysis is used to truncate the number of dimensions of the profiles to seven (which explains 90 % of the variance), and the truncated profiles are clustered using a K-means clustering algorithm. The median of each cluster defines a representative wind profile (RWP). Each cluster contains information from thousands of wind profiles with different locations, times and 850 hPa wind directions. To summarize the clusters statistically, we interpret the RWPs as pseudo-wind profiles and display the geographic frequency, seasonal frequency and histograms of wind direction at 850 hPa for each cluster. Geographic patterns are evident, and certain features of the spatio-temporal distributions are matched to observed distributions of convective organization. The form of the RWPs is also matched to specific wind profiles from case studies of organized convection. By performing the analysis on climate-model output, we lay the foundations for the development of the representation of shear-induced organization in a convection parametrization scheme (CPS). This would use the same methodology to diagnose where the organization of convection occurs and modify the CPS in an appropriate manner to represent it. The procedure could also be used as a diagnostic tool for evaluating and comparing climate models.

A subspace-based form of background subtraction is presented and applied to aeroacoustic wind tunnel data. A variant of this method has seen use in other fields such as climatology and medical imaging. The technique is based on an eigenvalue decomposition of the background noise cross-spectral matrix. Simulated results indicate similar performance to conventional background subtraction when the subtracted spectra are weaker than the true contaminating background levels. Superior performance is observed when the subtracted spectra are stronger than the true contaminating background levels, and when background data do not match between measurements. Experimental results show limited success in recovering signal behavior for data in which conventional background subtraction fails. The results also demonstrate the subspace subtraction technique’s ability to maintain a physical coherence relationship in the modified cross-spectral matrix. Deconvolution results from microphone phased array data indicate that array integration methods are largely insensitive to subtraction type, and that background subtraction with appropriate background data is an effective alternative to diagonal removal.

TempestExtremes (TE) is a multifaceted framework for feature detection, tracking, and scientific analysis of regional or global Earth system datasets on either rectilinear or unstructured/native grids. Version 2.1 of the TE framework now provides extensive support for examining both nodal (i.e., pointwise) and areal features, including tropical and extratropical cyclones, monsoonal lows and depressions, atmospheric rivers, atmospheric blocking, precipitation clusters, and heat waves. Available operations include nodal and areal thresholding, calculations of quantities related to nodal features such as accumulated cyclone energy and azimuthal wind profiles, filtering data based on the characteristics of nodal features, and stereographic compositing. This paper describes the core algorithms (kernels) that have been added to the TE framework since version 1.0, including algorithms for editing pointwise trajectory files, composition of fields around nodal features, generation of areal masks via thresholding and nodal features, and tracking of areal features in time. Several examples are provided of how these kernels can be combined to produce composite algorithms for evaluating and understanding common atmospheric features and their underlying processes. These examples include analyzing the fraction of precipitation from tropical cyclones, compositing meteorological fields around extratropical cyclones, calculating fractional contribution to poleward vapor transport from atmospheric rivers, and building a climatology of atmospheric blocks.

Abstract. The nonlinear dependence of the dust saltation process on wind speed poses a challenge for models of varying resolutions. This challenge is of particular relevance for the next generation of chemical transport models with nimble capability for multiple resolutions. We develop and apply a method to harmonize dust emissions across simulations of different resolutions by generating offline grid-independent dust emissions driven by native high-resolution meteorological fields. We implement into the GEOS-Chem chemical transport model a high-resolution dust source function to generate updated offline dust emissions. These updated offline dust emissions based on high-resolution meteorological fields strengthen dust emissions over relatively weak dust source regions, such as in southern South America, southern Africa and the southwestern United States. Identification of an appropriate dust emission strength is facilitated by the resolution independence of offline emissions. We find that the performance of simulated aerosol optical depth (AOD) versus measurements from the AERONET network and satellite remote sensing improves significantly when using the updated offline dust emissions with the total global annual dust emission strength of 2000 Tg yr−1 rather than the standard online emissions in GEOS-Chem. The updated simulation also better represents in situ measurements from a global climatology. The offline high-resolution dust emissions are easily implemented in chemical transport models. The source code and global offline high-resolution dust emission inventory are publicly available.

Abstract. Effective and accurate ocean and coastal wave predictions are necessary for engineering, safety and recreational purposes. Refining predictive capabilities is increasingly critical to reduce the uncertainties faced with a changing global wave climatology. Simulating WAves in the Nearshore (SWAN) is a widely used spectral wave modelling tool employed by coastal engineers and scientists, including for operational wave forecasting purposes. Fore- and hindcasts can span hours to decades, and a detailed understanding of the computational efficiencies is required to design optimized operational protocols and hindcast scenarios. To date, there exists limited knowledge on the relationship between the size of a SWAN computational domain and the optimal amount of parallel computational threads/cores required to execute a simulation effectively. To test the scalability, a hindcast cluster of 28 computational threads/cores (1 node) was used to determine the computation efficiencies of a SWAN model configuration for southern Africa. The model extent and resolution emulate the current operational wave forecasting configuration developed by the South African Weather Service (SAWS). We implemented and compared both OpenMP and the Message Passing Interface (MPI) distributing memory architectures. Three sequential simulations (corresponding to typical grid cell numbers) were compared to various permutations of parallel computations using the speed-up ratio, time-saving ratio and efficiency tests. Generally, a computational node configuration of six threads/cores produced the most effective computational set-up based on wave hindcasts of 1-week duration. The use of more than 20 threads/cores resulted in a decrease in speed-up ratio for the smallest computation domain, owing to the increased sub-domain communication times for limited domain sizes.

This article advances an analytic framework for studying climate knowledge, arguing that the dynamics of how scientists construct the category of climate articulate with practices of government by a process I theorize as “meteorological government.” Using diverse primary print sources, analysis in the present article employs this theorization to reconstruct elements of US statecraft in the period from 1800 to 1850 by tracing the governmental significance of meteorological statistics, military-medical meteorology, and what I term “racial climatology.” Historical analysis shows how these components of climate knowledge were coproduced with state efforts to evaluate, calculate, and monitor (1) the military body in a context of bureaucratization of the US Army; (2) western territories in a context of territorial acquisition and providential nationalism; and (3) a stratified population “legible” by biological understandings of racial hierarchy. The analytic framework I employ draws from and informs existing literature, which challenges assumptions that the dynamics of climate knowledge can be separated from developments in social power. I conclude by discussing the implications of the analysis for how we understand science-state coproduction, both in the case of US meteorology throughout the 1800–50 period and for climate knowledge and the state in other contexts and in recent decades.

Abstract. This paper documents the global climate model EC-Earth3-AerChem, one of the members of the EC-Earth3 family of models participating in the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 (CMIP6). EC-Earth3-AerChem has interactive aerosols and atmospheric chemistry and contributes to the Aerosols and Chemistry Model Intercomparison Project (AerChemMIP). In this paper, we give an overview of the model, describe in detail how it differs from the other EC-Earth3 configurations, and outline the new features compared with the previously documented version of the model (EC-Earth 2.4). We explain how the model was tuned and spun up under preindustrial conditions and characterize the model's general performance on the basis of a selection of coupled simulations conducted for CMIP6. The net energy imbalance at the top of the atmosphere in the preindustrial control simulation is on average −0.09 W m−2 with a standard deviation due to interannual variability of 0.25 W m−2, showing no significant drift. The global surface air temperature in the simulation is on average 14.08 ∘C with an interannual standard deviation of 0.17 ∘C, exhibiting a small drift of 0.015 ± 0.005 ∘C per century. The model's effective equilibrium climate sensitivity is estimated at 3.9 ∘C, and its transient climate response is estimated at 2.1 ∘C. The CMIP6 historical simulation displays spurious interdecadal variability in Northern Hemisphere temperatures, resulting in a large spread across ensemble members and a tendency to underestimate observed annual surface temperature anomalies from the early 20th century onwards. The observed warming of the Southern Hemisphere is well reproduced by the model. Compared with the ECMWF (European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts) Reanalysis version 5 (ERA5), the surface air temperature climatology for 1995–2014 has an average bias of −0.86 ± 0.05 ∘C with a standard deviation across ensemble members of 0.35 ∘C in the Northern Hemisphere and 1.29 ± 0.02 ∘C with a corresponding standard deviation of 0.05 ∘C in the Southern Hemisphere. The Southern Hemisphere warm bias is largely caused by errors in shortwave cloud radiative effects over the Southern Ocean, a deficiency of many climate models. Changes in the emissions of near-term climate forcers (NTCFs) have significant effects on the global climate from the second half of the 20th century onwards. For the SSP3-7.0 Shared Socioeconomic Pathway, the model gives a global warming at the end of the 21st century (2091–2100) of 4.9 ∘C above the preindustrial mean. A 0.5 ∘C stronger warming is obtained for the AerChemMIP scenario with reduced emissions of NTCFs. With concurrent reductions of future methane concentrations, the warming is projected to be reduced by 0.5 ∘C.

It is our pleasure to present this special issue of scientific journal Scalable Computing: Practice and Experience. In this issue (Volume 19, No 2 – June 2018), we selected 14 papers which have gone through review and revision, and represent novel results in Life Sciences, Digital Cultural Heritage, Climatology using state-of-the-art e-infrastructures. E-Infrastructures are currently addressing the challenging needs of researchers for digital services in terms of networking, computing and data management. Virtual research environments (VRE) integrate resources across all layers of the e-infrastructure (networking, computing, data, software, user interfaces) to foster cross-disciplinary data interoperability. VRE are supporting innovation in research via an integrated access to potentially unlimited digital research resources, tools and services across disciplines and user communities. In the content of this special issue the papers are ordered in 4 groups: Climatology (5 papers), Life Sciences (3 papers), Digital Cultural Heritage (2 papers) and Tools and Services (4 papers). Inside the groups, the papers are ordered by alphabetical order (the family name of the first author). Climatology. The first paper presents an online interactive platform that aims to provide weather information about Armenia by integrating observations, model and satellite data. The topic is interesting from the practical point of view and might be very useful, especially for meteorologists. The second paper studies the effect of the dust on climate in the Caucasus region, with a specific focus on Georgia, using the Regional Climate Model RegCM interactively coupled to a dust model. The simulations cover the period 1985-2014 encompassing most of the Sahara, the Middle East, the Great Caucasus with adjacent regions. The third paper provides insight in the performances of wind simulations for high resolution models of the terrain. The presented results rationalize the possibility to run in reasonable time high resolution models, while showing that the impact of turbulence does not have significantly increases the computing requirement. The fourth paper presents adaptation and tuning of the RegCM model for the Balkan Peninsula and Bulgaria and development of a methodology able to predict possible changes of the regional climate for different global climate change scenarios and their impact on spatial/temporal distribution of precipitation, hence the global water budgets, to changes of the characteristics and spatial/temporal distribution of extreme, unfavorable and catastrophic events. The fifth paper presents comparison of two approaches (static and dynamical) used to compute the vibrational spectra of two conformers of the free formic acid molecule. The topic is interesting within the context of the atmospheric chemistry research field and it is of sufficient importance regarding the vibrational spectroscopic data and induced temperature effects of intramolecular motions. Life Sciences. The manuscript from Astsatryan et al. describes a platform, which consists of data repository and workflow management services for Molecular Dynamics simulations. The platform focuses on an interactive data visualization workflow service as a key to perform more in-depth analyzing of research data outputs. The manuscript from Bigovic et al. describes the organic synthesis of three enol carbonate derivatives and the analysis of their interactions with T4 lysozyme L99A/M102Q using molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. The results obtained by different software packages are discussed. The manuscript from Koteska et al. describes a semi-empirical Molecular Dynamics study of irinotecan, a colon cancer drug, using the atom-centered density matrix propagation approach. The described methodology was used to study the structure, dynamics, and rovibrational spectrum of irinotecan. DCH. The paper of Charalambous and Artopoulos presents the deployment of the Clowder CMS system and the development of extraction services to handle, manage and automatically process Digital Cultural Heritage data in order to enable virtual collaboration for research in the South East and Eastern Mediterranean region. Technical descriptions of the system are given and some results are provided. In the paper of Elfarargy and Rizq a software system called Virtual Museum Framework (VirMuF), which is a set of tools that can be used by non-developers to easily create and publish 3D virtual museums in a very short time is presented. VirMuF is an open-source and teams including software developers can further extend VirMuF to fit their needs. Software Tools and Services. Dimitrov and Stoyanov present the Data Discovery Service supporting the VI-SEEM project Virtual Research Environment - VRE. The solution is based on an open source platform with special customization regarding the data harvesting methods from diverse data sources and updating the available content so that the users will seamlessly access all the data from a single point. The paper of Golubev et al. addresses the problems of optimization of medical image storing and secure access, using the DICOM system. Based on the Moldova DICOM Network architecture, the system enables distributed search, and transportation of DICOM images. Additionally, several optimization problems are addressed by the authors, along with the integration challenges within the VI-SEEM VRE. In the paper of Mishev et al. the design, requirements and implementation of a federated virtual research environment, based on the service orientation paradigm, offering anything as a service solutions, have been considered. The challenges of the service management implementation focusing on interoperability by design and service management standards have been discussed. The manuscript of Vudragovic et al. gives an extensive insight of the development and implementation of the DREAM dust model (DREAMCLIMATE service). Additionally, a use-case study of the premature mortality due to the desert dust in the North Africa - Europe - Middle East region for the 2005 obtained by the application of this model is presented, justifying the model and the applicability of the service itself. Abstract. Clustering – the automated grouping of similar data – can provide powerful and unique insight into large and complex data sets, in a fast and computationally efficient manner. While clustering has been used in a variety of fields (from medical image processing to economics), its application within atmospheric science has been fairly limited to date, and the potential benefits of the application of advanced clustering techniques to climate data (both model output and observations) has yet to be fully realised. In this paper, we explore the specific application of clustering to a multi-model climate ensemble. We hypothesise that clustering techniques can provide (a) a flexible, data-driven method of testing model–observation agreement and (b) a mechanism with which to identify model development priorities. We focus our analysis on chemistry–climate model (CCM) output of tropospheric ozone – an important greenhouse gas – from the recent Atmospheric Chemistry and Climate Model Intercomparison Project (ACCMIP). Tropospheric column ozone from the ACCMIP ensemble was clustered using the Data Density based Clustering (DDC) algorithm. We find that a multi-model mean (MMM) calculated using members of the most-populous cluster identified at each location offers a reduction of up to ∼ 20 % in the global absolute mean bias between the MMM and an observed satellite-based tropospheric ozone climatology, with respect to a simple, all-model MMM. On a spatial basis, the bias is reduced at ∼ 62 % of all locations, with the largest bias reductions occurring in the Northern Hemisphere – where ozone concentrations are relatively large. However, the bias is unchanged at 9 % of all locations and increases at 29 %, particularly in the Southern Hemisphere. The latter demonstrates that although cluster-based subsampling acts to remove outlier model data, such data may in fact be closer to observed values in some locations. We further demonstrate that clustering can provide a viable and useful framework in which to assess and visualise model spread, offering insight into geographical areas of agreement among models and a measure of diversity across an ensemble. Finally, we discuss caveats of the clustering techniques and note that while we have focused on tropospheric ozone, the principles underlying the cluster-based MMMs are applicable to other prognostic variables from climate models.

The biography of Fyodor Petrovich (Ivanovich) Haaz (Friedrich Joseph Laurentius Haass) (1780 - 1853) - Moscow doctor (1806 - 1853), a German origin, scientist, public health administrator, an outstanding humanist doctor of the first half of the 19th century, a philanthropist, known as the "Holy doctor", is showed in the article. Court Advisor (1811), College Counselor (1826), Knight of the Order of St. Vladimir of the fourth degree (1811), Order of St. Anna of the 2nd degree (181?) of The Russian Impire. A doctor in the army during the Patriotic War of 1812 (from January 1814), head physician of the Moscow Pavlovsk Hospital (1807-1812, 1814-1825), Head of the Moscow Medical Office (1825-1826), one of the founders of the Moscow Eye Hospital (1826), a member of the Moscow Prison Committee and the head doctor of Moscow prisons (1826-1853), the head doctor of the Moscow Catherine Hospital (1840-1844), the founder and head doctor of the Moscow Police (later - Alexander) hospital, popularly called the "Haaz" (1844- 1853). One of the founders of Russian balneology and balneology, who made a great contribution to the development of climatology and meteorology, pioneer in the resorts in the North Caucasus (1809-1810). The creator of lightweight individual shackles, he achieved their introduction at the exile stages to replace the riveting to a common rod for 6-12 convicted. The development of deontology in the 19th century, a science that studies the ethical standards and principles of a doctor’s behavior, as well as certain responsibilities towards the patient, is inextricably linked to the name of Dr. F.P. Haaz [F. Haass]. The life and work of this outstanding humanist physician is a wonderful example of high morality in the fulfillment of his professional duties and genuine nobility in serving the sick and suffering people. The motto of Dr. Haass’ life and professional work was borrowed from the Apostle Paul: “Hurry to do good” (in Galatians (6: 9-10) and in the second letter to The Thessalonians (3:13)). At present, the process of beatification has begun - the canonical process of classifying F. Haass as a blessed Catholic church.

COVID-19 merupakan penyakit menular baru yang disebabkan oleh virus SARS-CoV-2. Ditetapkan sebagai pandemi pada 12 Maret 2020 karena memiliki sebaran kasus yang tinggi dan cepat dibeberapa negara. Pada 1 Februari 2021 total kasus COVID-19 mencapai 103 juta di dunia, sedangkan di indonesia mencaoai 1,09 juta. Banyak faktor yang mempengaruhi terhadap penularan dan kematian COVID-19, seperti kondisi lingkungan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan gambaran kondisi lingkungan yang dapat menjadi faktor penularan dan kematian akibat COVID-19. Metode dalam penelitian ini adalah literature review, merupakan kajian pustaka dengan kajian data sekunder diperoleh melalui jurnal penelitian yang kemudihan disintesis sehingga didapatkan 23 jurnal sebagai acuan penyusunan kajian pustaka. Hasil kajian pustaka, COVID-19 dan degradasi lingkungan memiliki penurunan pencemaran udara, air, kebisingan, dan pencemaran laut akibat lockdown. Namun, terjadi peningkatan volumen limbah B3 dari pasien COVID-19. Kemudihan COVID-19 dan pencemaran udara didapatkan hasil, karbon monoksida (CO), NO2, dan materi partikulat berdiameter kecil atau sama dengan 10 ?m' (PM10) mengalami penurunan signifikan selama lockdown global. Sedangkan untuk COVID-19 dan Klimatologi-Meteorologi didapatkan hasil, Setiap kenaikan suhu 1oC dari suhu rata-rata dapat menurunkan kasus harian COVID-19 sebesar 36% dan 57% ketika rata-rata kelembaban pada 67% dan 85,5% (%). Demikian juga kelembaban, setiap kenaikan 1oC relatif menurunkan kasus harian COVID-19 sebesar 11% hingga 22% dengan rentang suhu 5,04oC hingga 8,2oC. Simpulan penelitian ini adalah, kondisi lingkungan pada saat pandemi COVID-19 memiliki polemik tersendiri. Kerusakan lingkungan seperti pencemaran udara, laut mulai berkurang dengan adanya kebijakan lockdown sebagai upaya pencegahan dan pengendalian COVID-19. Namun beberapa polutan seperti PM2,5 , PM10, CO, NO2 dan O3 memiliki hubungan yang signifikan dengan transmisi COVID-19. Abstrak Blastocystis hominis merupakan emerging disease yang terdistribusi luas di dunia, dengan prevalensi 10% di negara maju hingga 60% di negara berkembang. Perannya sebagai mikroorganisme patogen masih kontroversial. Diduga angka kejadian B. hominis lebih banyak didapatkan pada curah hujan yang rendah dan daerah tropis/ sub-tropis. Penelitian dilakukan untuk mengetahui prevalensi, profil B. hominis di Laboratorium Parasitologi Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Kristen Indonesia, serta hubungan antara angka kejadian infeksi B. hominis dengan curah hujan dan kelembaban pada musim penghujan dan kemarau. Penelitian potong lintang deksriptif berdasarkan data pemeriksaan feses di Laboratorium Parasitologi Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Kristen Indonesia selama 20 tahun sejak Januari 2000 sampai dengan Desember 2019. Sampel feses diperiksa dari sediaan basah dengan pewarnaan eosin dan lugol, dan hasilnya dilaporkan dengan sistem skoring semi kuantitatif. Data curah hujan dan kelembaban didapatkan dari Badan Meteorologi Klimatologi dan Geofisika Stasiun Meteorologi Kemayoran Jakarta.Didapatkan 3270 sampel, dengan hasil sampel positif B. hominissebanyak 440 sampel (14%), Prevalensi pada perempuan lebih tinggi dibandingkan laki-laki dan terbanyak pada kelompok usia 21-60 tahun (67,4%). Persentase tertinggi ditemukan pada feses dengan konsistensi cair. Tidak ditemukan hubungan antara prevalensi infeksi B. hominis dengan curah hujan (P=0,285) dan kelembaban (P=0,204). The study was conducted to determine the prevalence and profile of B. hominis in the Laboratory of Parasitology, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Kristen Indonesia.and the relationship between incidence of B. hominisinfection with rainfall and humidity in the rainy and dry seasons.This descriptive cross-sectional study was based on fecal examination data at the FK UKI Parasitology Laboratory for 20 years. from January 2000 to December 2019. Stool examination was carried out by making eosin and lugol wet preparations to examine intestinal protozoa, and the results were reported using a semi-quantitative scoring system.Rainfall and humidity data are obtained from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency of the Stasiun MeteorologiKemayoran, Jakarta. As many as3270 samples were obtained, feses with B. hominis positive results was 440 samples (14%). Based on gender, 53.1% of B. hominisinfected were women and most patients were found in the age range from 21 to 60 years (67.4%). The highest percentage was found in watery stool. Background:The pattern of rheumatological diseases shows significant differences depending on age. It is commonly admitted that inflammatory rheumatic diseases is the prerogative of young people (1), while degenerative pathology is more important in older ages (2). In the context of the emergency, little epidemiological data exist about the differences between young and old populations.Objectives:To study the influence of age on emergency rheumatology consultations received in the Department of Rheumatology of the University Hospital of Ibn Rochd.Methods:We conducted a retrospective study on the 2019 emergency consultations register of the Department of Rheumatology of the University Hospital of Ibn Rochd, Casablanca. Patients were divided in 2 groups: young subjects included patients aged less than 65 years, and the elderly subjects included people aged 65 and above. The studied parameters were gender, medical coverage, socio-professional category, reasons for consultation, joint involvement, duration of symptoms, diagnoses, and treatments.Results:407 emergency consultations were carried out, including 81 in the elderly (19.9%) and 326 in young subjects (80.1%). The characteristics are summed up in Table 1. Although we noted a female predominance in both groups, men were more represented in the elderly group. Radiculalgia was a more frequent reason for consultation in the elderly population, while arthralgia was more frequent in the young population. Young subjects more frequently had peripheral joints complaints. Degenerative and tumor pathologies were more common in the elderly population, while inflammatory, septic, and tendon pathologies were more prominent in the young population. Regarding treatments, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs were more prescribed in young subjects, while the other treatments had a homogeneous distribution in the two groups.Conclusion:In our emergency unit, the epidemiological distribution of our patients according to age matches the general epidemiological characteristics of rheumatological pathologies: inflammatory causes are more frequent in young ages, while degenerative pathologies are found at a later age.References:[1]Kobak S, Bes C. The respective shares of legumes, oilseeds, and cereals in the cropping pattern were 17 to 33, 17 to 40, and 50 to 67 %. The most economically efficient type of crop rotation is the soya-winter wheat-peas-winter wheat-sunflower-corn six-field rotation with two fields of legumes: in this rotation 1 ha of crop rotation area yields 3 850 grain units per ha at a grain unit prime cost of 5.46 roubles; the plant production output return and profitability were 20,888 roubles per ha and 113 %, respectively. The high production profitabilities provided by the soya-winter wheat-sunflower four-field and the soya-winter-wheat-sunflower-corn-winter wheat five-field crop rotation are 108.7 and 106.2 %, respectively. The inclusion of winter wheat in crop rotation for two years in a row reduces the second winter wheat crop yield by 80 to 100 %, which means a certain reduction in the grain unit harvesting rate to 3.48-3.57 thousands per ha of rotation area and cuts the production profitability down to 84.4-92.3 %. The relevance of the topic has to do with an increased global interest in this region. The paper is aimed at considering the basic principles of developing and the procedure of testing seismic instruments for use at ultralow climatic temperatures. In this paper the indicated issue is considered through the example of a seismic module designed for petroleum and gas exploration by passive seismoacoustic methods. The seismic module is a direct-burial portable unit of around 5 kg in weight, designed to continuously measure and record microseismic triaxial orthogonal (ZNE) noise in a range from 0.1 to 45 Hz during several days in autonomous mode. The functional chart of designing the seismic module was considered, and concrete conclusions were made for choosing the necessary components to meet the ultralow-temperature operational requirements. The conclusions made served for developing appropriate seismic module. In this case, the components and tools used included a SAFT MP 176065 xc low-temperature lithium cell, industrial-spec electronic component parts, a Zhaofeng Geophysical ZF-4.5 Chinese primary electrodynamic seismic sensor, housing seal parts made of frost-resistant silicone materials, and finely dispersed silica gel used as water-retaining sorbent to avoid condensation in the housing. The paper also describes a procedure of low-temperature collation tests at the lab using a New Brunswick Scientific freezing plant. The test results proved the operability of the developed equipment at ultralow temperatures down to -55°C. In addition, tests were conducted at low microseismic noises in the actual Arctic environment. The possibility to detect signals in a range from 1 to 10 Hz at the level close to the NLNM limit (the Peterson model) has been confirmed, which allows monitoring and exploring petroleum and gas deposits by passive methods. As revealed by this study, the suggested approaches are efficient in developing high-precision mobile seismic instruments for use at ultralow climatic temperatures. The solution of the considered instrumentation and methodical issues is of great practical significance as a constituent of the generic problem of Arctic exploration. The article analyzes the results of treatment of patients with excess length of the second metatarsal bones that underwent osteotomy with and without osteosynthesis. The results of treatment of patients who underwent metatarsal shortening due to classical Weil-osteotomy with and without osteosynthesis were analyzed. The first group consisted of 34 patients. They underwent classical Weil osteotomy. The second group included 44 patients in whomosteotomy of the second metatarsal bone were not by the screw. When studying the results of the treatment in the immediate postoperative period, weeks 6, 12, slightly better results were observed in patients of the first group, while one year after surgical treatment the results in both groups were comparable. One year after surgical treatment, there were 2.9% (1 patient) of unsatisfactory results in the first group and 4.5% (2 patients) in the second group. Considering the comparability of the results of treatment in remote postoperative period, the choice of concrete method remains with the operating surgeon. Methods. A prospective 3-year study of 86 healthy dogs (aged 1-7 yrs) of different breeds and of both sexes. Echo homogeneity and echogenicity of the stomach and intestines wall were determined by the method of Silina, T.L., et al. (2010) in absolute values ​​of average brightness levels of ultrasound image pixels using the 8-bit scale with 256 shades of gray. Results. Quantitative echogenicity indicators of the stomach and the small intestine wall in dogs were determined. Based on the numerical values ​​characterizing echogenicity distribution in each layer of a separate structure of the digestive system, the coefficient of gastric echogenicity is determined as 1:2.4:1.1 (mucosa/submucosa/muscle layers, respectively), the coefficient of duodenum and jejunum echogenicity is determined as 1:3.5:2 and that of ileum is 1:1.8:1. Clinical significance. Datieva, DOI: https://doi.org/10.26782/jmcms.spl.10/2020.06.00046 Abstract: The aim of this work was to assess the functional reserves of the body to quantify individual health; adaptation, psychophysiological characteristics of the health quality of medical students in different seasons of the year. When studying the temporal organization of physiological functions, the rhythm parameters of physiological functions were determined, followed by processing the results using the Cosinor Analysis program, which reveals rhythms with an unknown period for unequal observations, evaluates 5 parameters of sinusoidal rhythms (mesor, amplitude, acrophase, period, reliability). The essence of desynchronization is the mismatch of circadian rhythms among themselves or destruction of the rhythms architectonics (instability of acrophases or their disappearance). Desynchronization with respect to the rhythmic structure of the body is of a disregulatory nature, most pronounced in pathological desynchronization. High neurotism, increased anxiety reinforces the tendency to internal desynchronization, which increases with stress. During examination stress, students experience a decrease in the stability of the temporary organization of the biosystem and the tension of adaptive mechanisms develops, which affects attention, mental performance and the quality of adaptation to the educational process. Time is shortened and the amplitude of the “initial minute” decreases, personal and situational anxiety develops, and the level of psychophysiological adaptation decreases. The results of the work are priority because they can be used in assessing quality and level of health. The difference between active and passive qualitative comparison is shown, two triadic models of passive and active comparison and models for comparing two and three objects are described. Triadic comparison models are proposed as an alternative to dyadic comparison models. Comparison allows finding the common and the different; this approach is proposed for the analysis of the nomothetic and ideographic method of obtaining knowledge. The nomothetic method identifies and evaluates the general, while the ideographic method searches for unique in parameters and in combinations of parameters. Triadic comparison is used in systems and methods of argumentation, as well as in the analysis of consistency/inconsistency.
