Abstract:
Background: This study investigates suicide literacy, help-seeking attitudes, and related factors among medical residents. Methods: The study utilized a cross-sectional design and included all medical residents in Kerman University of Medical Sciences in 2023‒2024. We obtained demographic information, psychiatric history, and administered questionnaires about literacy of suicide (LOSS) and the Attitudes Toward Seeking Professional Psychological Help (ATSPPH-SF). Results: A total of 157 residents with a mean age of 28.97±2.55 years participated. The prevalence of any psychiatric history was 17.83% (95% CI: 12.1‒23.56). Notably, more educated males displayed higher suicidal literacy (95% CI: 0.231‒0.567, P=0.032), while there was no significant difference in help-seeking attitudes between genders (P=0.755). Surgical residents scored lower than non-surgical specialties like pediatrics (mean difference=2.63, 95% CI: 0.23-5.03, P=0.023, effect size d=0.589). Older age positively correlated with help-seeking attitudes (r=0.158, P=0.049). Additionally, marital status, residency level, history of psychiatric illnesses and their types, previous use of psychiatric medications, and history of self-harm or suicide had no significant impact on suicide literacy scores or attitude toward help-seeking. A moderate association (r=0.367) was found between the suicide literacy and help-seeking attitude questionnaire scores. Conclusion: Despite relatively high suicide literacy, medical residents displayed average help-seeking attitudes, positioning them as a high-risk group. Urgent interventions are needed to enhance awareness of the importance of psychological support and to reduce stress and work pressure, indirectly mitigating the risk of suicide in this vulnerable population.

Abstract:
Abstract: In some cultures, psychological problems and treatment are mostly not considered as important as medical illnesses. This is generally because of people's attitudes toward mental disorders and psychotherapeutic interventions. The current study involved 2702 Muslims from Pakistan. The study measured attitudes towards mental health through different dimensions. These mainly included attitudes toward mental health, attitudes towards mental disorders, attitudes towards medical illnesses, attitudes towards mentally disturbed, attitudes towards seeking psychological help for self, attitudes towards seeking psychological help for families, attitudes towards seeking psychological help for children, and attitudes towards seeking psychological help for friends. The understudied population had positive attitudes toward mental health and psychotherapy. A significant difference was found between people's attitudes towards medical illnesses and mental disorders. Attitudes based on gender, age, education, marriage, profession, and income were also significantly different. The findings of this study lead mental health practitioners and policymakers to modify their strategies for encouraging more clientele to the existing mental health facilities.

Abstract:
Objective. The purpose of this study was to investigate patients with esophageal cancer symptom experiences before seeking medical help and psychosocial responses. Methods. Within one month of diagnosis, semistructured interviews were held with 14 adult patients with esophageal cancer. To fully comprehend the symptom experiences that patients with esophageal cancer had prior to seeking medical help and the psychosocial responses they had to these experiences, thematic analysis and interpretative phenomenological analysis were used. Results. Patients with esophageal cancer recounted their symptom experiences, and psychosocial responses were categorized into three main themes: physical, psychological, and social. Three subthemes were included in the physiological aspect: early symptoms (warning signs), specific symptoms (the catalyst for seeking medical help), and concurrent symptoms (masked side effects). Four subthemes were associated with psychological aspects: unfairness, regret, worry, and acceptance. Two subthemes were related to the social element, namely, dragging down one’s family and societal self-isolation. Conclusion. Due to the self-remitting nature of early symptoms, the normalization of their interpretation, and concealment by other illnesses, patients with esophageal cancer may delay medical help-seeking. The findings could serve as a reference for healthcare professionals to implement tailored psychosocial interventions and help patients identify symptoms early in order to seek medical help.

Abstract:
The state of psychological health of the population requires immediate solution of ethical, legal and socio-medical problems in terms of organization of psychological assistance in Russia. Preservation and strengthening of psychological health of the population is a top-priority task of modern public policy, it is confirmed by governmental legislation containing such information. Population health in these socio-economic and political conditions is characterized by extreme instability, growth of psychopathies, suicidal and deviant behavior, especially among young people. Postcovid social space is characterized by an increase in depressive states, anxiety disorders associated with prolonged isolation of the population. This is aggravated by a number of social and military-political factors that cause constant stressing of the population up to outright panic and phobias, which pushed a significant part of the population to make rash decisions up to leaving the country and suicide attempts. However, with competently organized and qualitatively conducted psychological assistance it would be quite possible to stop the mass exodus of the population on the background of panic. In this regard, the problem of creating a single governmental law on the organization of psychological help in Russia is the most urgent. Such laws were adopted at the regional level only in Moscow and St. Petersburg, but they were characterized by fragmentation and deficiencies in terms of professional education and training of psychologists. The article considers ways of solving ethical and legal problems related to the creation of a unified federal law on psychological assistance to the population and the development of a professional standard for the training of psychologists, taking into account ethical, legal, educational and personal qualities, with a clear description of the rights and responsibilities of practicing psychologists. The author also considers the necessity and possibility of introducing the position of a staff psychologist in every educational, departmental institution, office, companies, medical and social institutions, including antenatal clinics and hospices. Special attention should be paid to improving the Criminal Code in terms of provisions regulating safe psychological assistance and providing for criminal punishment for damage to the psychological health of the patient when professional knowledge is used for selfish purposes, as well as when people in need of psychological help are attracted to sects under the guise of group psychotherapy. It is also supposed to mandatory certification and registration of practicing psychologists, introduction of certification licensing of psychologists.

Abstract:
Objective Medical students frequently confront a range of psychological challenges inherent to their profession. Among these, the psychological help-seeking stigma (PHSS) is a crucial yet often neglected barrier, impeding medical students from obtaining necessary psychological support. This research aims to elucidate the characteristics of PHSS in medical students through latent profile analysis (LPA), examine its psycho-social determinants, and establish the threshold for PHSS using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis. Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 3650 medical students from three medical colleges in Hainan Province, China, between February and July 2023. The survey gathered data on demographic details, PHSS, family socioeconomic status, professional help-seeking attitude, mental health level, self-efficacy and family function. LPA was employed to categorize distinct stigma profiles. Univariate and multiple logistic regression analyses were utilized to investigate the factors influencing these PHSS profiles. ROC analysis was executed to determine the optimal cut-off value for PHSS. Results Three distinct PHSS profiles emerged among the participants: “low-level stigma” (23.2%), “moderate-level stigma” (53.2%), and “high-level stigma” (23.6%). Logistic regression analysis revealed that professional help-seeking attitude, mental health level, self-efficacy and family function were associated with PHSS. The ROC analysis determined that the optimal cut-off value for identifying PHSS was ≥ 19.5. Conclusion This study highlights the substantial variability in PHSS among medical students. The identification of key influencing factors underscores the need for bespoke mental health interventions tailored to this unique demographic.

Abstract:
The study explored if willingness to seek psychotherapy or refer patients to therapy is predicted by either perception of its usefulness or stigma (public and self-stigma), and if there are any differences based on specific psychological disorders for this population. A cross-sectional study was conducted surveying medical students enrolled at a southeastern university during spring 2022. These medical students completed the Mental Help Seeking Attitudes Scale (MHSAS), revised Self-Stigma of Seeking Help Scale (SSOSH-7), Stigma Scale for Receiving Psychological Help (SSRPH), in addition to vignette-based items assessing the likelihood they would seek therapy treatment and refer a patient for therapy based on two specific psychological disorders. The survey was completed by 106 medical students out of 495 current students (21.4% response rate). The data reveal that the greater the public stigma endorsed, the less likely medical students would be willing to seek therapy for panic disorder; however, the greater the self-stigma, the less likely they would seek therapy for depression. This study found differences in willingness to utilize therapy based on stigma-related attitudes and specific disorders, but not for referring patients.

Abstract:
This study aimed to determine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health of cancer patients in Serbia. Data were collected between April–May 2021 using an online questionnaire, which estimated depression, anxiety, and stress in a sample of 221 cancer patients. The Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Assessment Scale (DASS-21) was used to assess the cancer patients’ affective status. The T test of independent samples and the one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), as well as multiple linear regression analysis, have been used as well. The results showed that moderate to extremely severe depression, anxiety, and stress symptoms were present in 33.9%, 21.2%, and 26.7% of patients, respectively. Older patients and those who assessed their socioeconomic and health status as better were less anxious, depressed, and stressed. The study shows that the patients who have stated that medical help has been available significantly differ from those patients who have not had available medical help, meaning that they have shown lower scores on the scales of depression and stress. When it comes to the availability of medical help during the pandemic, statistically significant differences among patients on the scale of anxiety have not been proven. It has been determined that statistically important differences exist between patients who have needed psychological help and those who have not needed it when it comes to the results on all of the three subscales. The patients who have expressed the need for psychological help have higher levels of depression, anxiety, and stress. The patients who have not had available psychological help have higher levels of depression, anxiety, and stress when compared to the patients who have had available psychological help.

Abstract:
We investigated psychological distress and the “medical student syndrome” in a group of undergraduate Abnormal Psychology students. Students planning to major in psychology reported more worry about their psychological health than those planning to major in some other field. Also, students who reported a history of psychological treatment were more likely to intend to pursue an advanced degree in counseling or psychotherapy. Although the process of learning about various psychological disorders decreased students' anxiety about their own mental health, it increased their anxiety about the mental health of family members. After completing course work in abnormal psychology, students were more willing to seek help from campus mental health services for personal psychological distress.

Abstract:
Objective: The reluctance of medical students to seek help for stress is attributed to a lot of factors involving stigma, their help-seeking attitudes and psychological openness. The objective of this study is to gauge help seeking attitudes for stress and mental health issues among Pakistani medical students. Design: Two questionnaires were used to form a self-administered questionnaire, including Hopkins Symptom Checklist (SCL-5) and Inventory of Attitudes towards Seeking Mental Health Services (IASMHS). Place & duration of study: Students from King Edward Medical University, Lahore and Fatima Memorial Hospital were administered the questionnaire in physical form as well as an online version. Responses were gathered over a time of 3 months. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional survey in two selected medical colleges in Lahore in 2022. After IRB approval and informed consent, a self-administered questionnaire which included Hopkins Symptom Checklist (SCL-5) and Inventory of Attitudes towards Seeking Mental Health Services (IASMHS) was utilized for data collection. Analysis was conducted with SPSS 26. Results: Six hundred and forty-one undergraduate medical students participated in the study with majority being female (64.2%) and hostellers (59%). SCL- 5 scores of the participants (mean=13.36, S. D=4.95) showed moderate levels of distress among students. Participants’ mean Attitude Score on IASMHS was 53.66 (S. D=10.72). Attitudes towards help seeking were fairly negative especially with regard to feeling indifferent towards stigma (mean=18.95, S.D=5.69). Student’s attitudes reflected some psychological openness (mean=14.48, S.D=5.35), while propensity to seek help was slightly better (mean=20.23, S.D = 4.75). Females and clinical year students showed more positive attitudes towards help seeking as compared to males and students belonging to pre-clinical years (P<0.05). Conclusion: The study showed that stress among under-graduate medical students remains a significant issue. While female students and clinical years’ students portrayed better help seeking attitudes towards mental illnesses and stress, further studies including interventions to address mental illness stigma are required to improve the trend.

Abstract:
IntroductionMany medical workers suffered from severe professional burnout while working in the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic, but few of them had the opportunity to find psychological help.ObjectivesThe aim of the research was to study the relationship between emotional burnout and self-help strategies in medical professionals during the pandemic.MethodsThe Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) was used to measure the level of professional burnout. It was filled out by medical workers from January 2021 to November 2022.The sample consisted of 314 medical workers (57 men and 255 women), whose average age was 36.97±11.93. According to the level of education, the sample included specialists with secondary general education (4.14%), with secondary special education (19.4%), with incomplete higher education (11.46%), with higher education (59.87%) and PhD (5.1%). 35 people (11%) of the surveyed medical workers worked in the red zone.ResultsWhen medical workers experience severe Emotional Exhaustion and Depersonalization, they often try to help themselves by drinking alcohol (r=0.156; p=0.005; r=0.184; p=0.001), eating (r=0.227; p=0.000; r=0.151; p=0.007), taking medications (r=0.204; p=0.000; r=0.212; p=0.005), solitude (r=0.204; p=0.000; r=0.133; p=0.019), watching TV series (r=0.173; p=0.002; r=0.146; p=0.01). With an increase in the Reduction of professional skills, medical workers also eat more (r=-0.148; p=0.009) and try to learn something new, engage in self-development (r=-0.137; p=0.015). It is important to note that the desire to seek psychological help is associated only with Emotional Exhaustion (r=0.121, p=0.032), that is, he/she may be aware at an early stage of professional burnout, when the symptoms of depersonalization and reduction of professional skills have not yet occurred.ConclusionsThus, all the considered self-help methods are already used with pronounced symptoms of professional burnout, but do not lead to its pronounced decrease. It is important to note that seeking psychological help is possible with awareness of emotional exhaustion, but not with depersonalization and reduction of professional skills.Disclosure: Research is supported by the Russian Science Foundation, project No. 21-18-00624.Disclosure of InterestNone Declared

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the methodology of prenatal gender selection and ethical aspects of its implementation. Based on the analysis of scientific publications, the principal techniques to determine sex in pre-implantation period, in the embryo and fetus, are presented. Invasive and non-invasive procedures of prenatal diagnosis are descreibed. Invasive procedures include examination of the fetus by chorionic villus sampling karyotyping of cells obtained by amniocentesis. Non-invasive techniques related to pregnant women's blood biochemistry, ultrasound markers of the Down syndrome are given. Fetal blood DNA testing is a more sensitive diagnostic parameter that reduces the indication for invasive procedures. The newest most effective method of sex determination in pre-implantation period is sperm separation screening. Medical and non-medical reasons for prenatal gender determination such as prevention of X-linked genetic disorders in a child, a couple’s choice in order to balance sex of children in the family, social gender preferences are shown. Gender selection for the prevention of the X-linked disorders is justified. Ethical issues regarding to the balance of children in the family, giving preference to a certain sex with the help of advanced diagnostic techniques, and selective abortion are discussed. The bioethical principles for the prevention selective abortion resulted from the gender reasons are established. International documents – the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Dignity of the Human Being with regard to the Application of Biology and Medicine, the Declaration of the World Medical Association regulating protection against sexual discrimination are considered

Abstract:
Background: Cultural beliefs significantly shape societal attitudes toward mental illness, and these social attitudes profoundly impact help-seeking behaviors. Therefore, it is important to focus on understanding and addressing these social behaviors. Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of chronic mental illness interpretations based on culture and religious beliefs on non-medical help-seeking behaviors among patients in Türkiye. Methods: The study was conducted from September to October 2023 using an inductive qualitative approach. In-depth face-to-face interviews were carried out with individuals diagnosed with chronic mental illness and their relatives, registered in a state-owned Community Mental Health Center (CMHC) in Türkiye. Using purposive sampling, 13 individuals who met the criteria were interviewed. Thematic analysis was used to identify themes. Results: Three main themes and eight sub-themes were identified, including the reasons for seeking non-medical help (psychological challenges, subjective norms, physical requirements), factors contributing to seeking non-medical help (predisposing factors, enabling factors, and myths), and reflections on the benefits of non-medical practices (perceived physical benefits, perceived psychological benefits). Conclusions: It was concluded that individuals with chronic mental illness and their relatives living in the Eastern Anatolia Region of Türkiye engaged in non-medical help-seeking behaviors and mostly turned to traditional religious practices. Culture and religious beliefs emerged as primary factors leading patients to seek non-medical treatment approaches. Consequently, there is a perceived need to explore non-medical alternative methods across various mental health settings and with diverse samples in future research endeavors.

Abstract:
This study used the international 12-item general health questionnaire (GHQ-12) to survey 2578 postgraduates in three medical schools in Shanghai. The results show that the psychology of postgraduates in medical schools is generally “sub-healthy.” 55.4% of the participants are in a state of excessive psychological stress, and 38.2% of the participants have or are developing into mental illness. Compared with the data published by European scholars, the pressure on graduate students in medical schools in the country is greater, and the psychological “sub-health” is more serious. The above results all remind that schools must strengthen their attention to the mental health of graduate students in the medical school, take practical actions to help them complete their studies with a healthy attitude, and eventually grow into the pillars of socialism.

Abstract:
The subject of this study is the dependence of the frequency of search queries related to a certain medical and/or psychological problem on time and geographical location. In this study, two types of search queries were studied: "status" queries and "help" queries. To obtain data on the frequency characteristics of requests, the capabilities of the Googl Trends web application were used. Requests for "help" were investigated based on the results of an anonymous questionnaire of those who applied for psychological help to the Moscow Psychological Assistance Service for the Population. Seasonal variations of the query "depression" qualitatively repeat seasonal fluctuations, which are one of the main characteristics of this disease: spring-autumn peaks of circulation with summer-winter recessions. Attention is also drawn to the high severity of the autumn peak in the number of requests. At the same time, the graph of the frequency of requests for the word "alarm" does not have such a pronounced cyclicity and does not show an upward trend in the second half of the year. The analysis of the "help" requests found: (1) seasonal cyclicity, similar to the "depression" query — with spring and autumn peaks, and (2) a downward trend by the end of the year, unlike the "depression" query.     The analysis of search queries presented in this article is an important research tool, since the statistical characteristics obtained in such a study are independent of traditional statistics based on the analysis of patients' appeals to medical or psychological institutions. Thus, we found that seasonal variations of the query "depression" qualitatively repeat seasonal fluctuations in the frequency of occurrence of the disease: spring-autumn peaks alternate with summer-winter declines, which may indicate the reliability of evaluating search queries as a tool for analyzing depressive and anxiety–depressive states. Variations of "help" requests also have a similar cyclicity.

Abstract:
Background Mobbing, particularly in medical residencies, can lead to psychological terror with lasting mental and physical health consequences. Its impact on Mexican residents, however, remains underexplored. Aim This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and associated factors of psychological terror among medical residents at a medical center in Mexico City. Methods In a cross-sectional study, medical residents from various specialties were assessed for mobbing domains, quality of life, and anxiety/depression using the Leymann Inventory of Psychological Terror (LIPT), 36-Item Short Form Health Survey, Beck Depression Inventory-II, and Beck Anxiety Inventory, respectively. Psychological terror was defined as a LIPT score ≥ p80. Linear and binomial logistic regression models were used to explore independent predictors of mobbing and psychological terror. Results Of the 349 participants included (median age: 28; IQR: 27–30 years), 19.5% (95% CI: 15.5%-24.0%) were identified with psychological terror. Furthermore, 39% reported higher-degree trainees as mobbing perpetrators. Women in surgical residencies in their second or fifth year were found to experience higher levels of mobbing. Manifested bullying, workplace stigma, and inappropriate tasks were the most impacted mobbing domains. Anxiety, diminished mental health quality of life, and higher degree of medical specialization were independent predictors of mobbing. Meanwhile, increased anxiety, affiliation to surgical specialties, and being in the second or fifth year of training were identified as predictors of psychological terror. Conclusions Mobbing and psychological terror are prevalent conditions among medical residents in Mexico. Identification of occupational conditions and adverse psychological stressors can help to improve quality of life and training of medical residents.

Abstract:
Mental health and psychological education activities are being carried out in Moscow (the Russian Federation), along with measures aimed at prevention of social stigma in mental health care. The medical, social and educational project To Say or Not to Say has been developed by a group of experts from the Mental-health clinic No. 1 named after N.A. Alexeev, for Moscow residents. The title chosen for the project urges participants to make a choice: continue living with their problems or take a step towards solving them. A new educational activity format has been created and tested in the course of the project, and this format provides an opportunity to largely overcome the stigmatizing barriers that prevent people from seeking psychological and psychiatric help in Moscow. Sixteen events involving over 7,000 citizens have been held, and the psychiatrists engaged in the project have spent 2,280 man-hours in this volunteering activity. We believe that this educational activity could help to overcome social stigma in psychiatry, further research is needed to measure the effect of our educational project on social stigma associated with mental health.

Public policies designed to improve health and well-being are challenged by people’s resistance. A social psychological perspective reveals how health policies can pose a psychological threat to individuals and result in resistance to following health recommendations. Self-affirmation, a brief psychological intervention that has individuals focus on important personal values, can help reduce resistance to behavior change and help promote health and well-being in four health-policy domains: graphic cigarette warning labels designed to get people to quit smoking, community health programs targeted at high-risk populations, alcohol intervention and prevention programs targeted at problem drinkers, and adherence to medical recommendations and treatment regimens among people coping with disease. Using self-affirmation has important strengths and limitations as a tool to help policymakers and practitioners encourage better health choices.

Abstract:
Introduction. The article presents the results of research on the need to master and implement the basics of psychological support, prevention of burnout, self-help and mutual help in the practice of medical workers (MP). The principles and algorithms and features of their presentation for doctors and students of medical institutions of psychological skills and knowledge in war conditions are described. Aim. To determine the peculiarities of the algorithms of psychological education (PE) and support (PS) of workers of various medical professions during a full-scale invasion. Materials and methods. More than 100 literary sources were analyzed, among which 33 that most correspond to the topic of the study were selected, a questionnaire was developed in Google form, 75 respondents participated in the survey (medical and non-medical workers, medical and non-medical students, patients who were under medical supervision during the period of full-scale military operations in Ukraine), a comparative analysis of the obtained results was carried out. Results. Women made up 71.9% of respondents, and men – 27.8%. Among the respondents, 74.8% have a higher medical education, 62.2% of respondents live in Kyiv, 11.9% in regional centers, and 23.8% in other cities of Ukraine. There were 26 respondents under the age of 39.9, 35 between the ages of 40 and 60, and 14 over 60. A total of 29% of respondents agreed that medical workers on average possess the skills of PE and PS, and 48% believe that MPs have a low level of these competencies; 98.7% noted the need for medical professionals to have psychological education, and 100% of respondents spoke in favor of the acquisition of PS skills by students of medical educational institutions. Regarding perceptions of health, 81.3% of respondents agreed that a patient's health consists of physical and mental components. Respondents point to the ignoring of the psychological component when teaching MP in 9.3% of cases, in 34.7% they believe that information about a person's psychological characteristics is provided only as additional information. Regarding the training of medical workers in the basics of PS – 90.7% of respondents note its necessity; 6.7% believe that this is the task of medical education institutions; 98% of respondents noted the need to prevent emotional exhaustion and professional burnout of medical workers. Conclusions. The results of the study showed that additional psychological skills and knowledge will contribute to the development of the practice of a holistic approach to the patient, where the medical worker will be able to more holistically and effectively assess and restore the health of a patient who suffered from military aggression and has symptoms of PTSD.

The study analyzed the personal and behavioral characteristics of cancer patients in the context of having a psychological profile with a certain level of adaptation. Based on informed consent in Medical- psychological center of Vinnitsa National Pirogov Memorial Medical University and Vinnytsa Regional Clinical Oncology Clinic during 2015-2019 years 288 cancer patients were examined. Assessment of personality traits conducted using the Freiburg Personality Inventory, FPI-B, behavioral patterns - Ways of Coping Questionnaire, WCQ by R. Lazarus and S. Folkman. Cancer causes the actualization of psychological constructs and the stress-protective mechanisms involved in overcoming stress. In families with impaired family adaptation, a higher incidence of patients with maladaptive personality and behavioral profiles was found. Patients with a disharmonious profile are at risk for developing psychological maladaptation in the stressful situation of a life-threatening illness. The personal and behavioral profile of the cancer patient is an important criterion for the choice of medical-psychological help and should be taken into account when applying psychological interventions to the patient and his immediate family (family).

Abstract:
This research was intended to investigate the relationship between mindfulness, emotion regulation, and psychological distress in Pakistani medical students. It was also aimed to assess the predictive role of mindfulness and emotion regulation for psychological distress (depression, anxiety, stress). Correlational research design and purposive sampling techniques were used. The data was collected from both public and private medical colleges. The total sample comprised 216 participants (men; n=96; women; n= 120). Mindful Attention Awareness Scale, Emotion Regulation Questionnaire, Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS-21) along with a demographic information sheet were used to assess the study variables. Results were analyzed through SPSS 21. Findings revealed a significant negative relationship of mindfulness and emotion regulation with psychological distress (depression, anxiety, and stress) in medical students. Furthermore, mindfulness and emotion regulation significantly predicted psychological distress (anxiety). The results of the present study will help clinical psychologists to devise improved training programs and therapeutic interventions for medical students for minimizing their distress so that medical students become able to perform better in their academic activities.

Abstract:
208 Background: In The Indian Scenario, a diagnosis of cancer is accompanied with social stigma and emotional upheavals, especially in breast cancer patients. They are typically thinking: “I would be less of a woman,” “I don’t know if people understand me,” “I feel isolated from myself, my family and my friends,” “Would I be normal again?” “Do I know how to help myself?” or “What will happen in the future, to my kids, to my husband?” Methods: All of these concerns are not always addressed by the medical professions. To address these issues, the Indian Breast Cancer Survivors Conference was organized as an annual conference with an attendance of 200-250 breast cancer survivors from the state of Maharashtra, India. The conference would address the psychological, emotional and social distress experienced by the patients with an aim from living a longer life to living a better and fulfilled life. Results: The emphasis of the sessions were educational (with recent updates on the surgical, medical and radiation therapy aspects of breast cancer treatment), practical (emphasized important issues like side-effects of treatment, patient advocacy, complementary therapies, spirituality, lifestyle changes, etc.), and entertaining. The summary and outcomes of the last 5 annual survivorship conferences will be described and enumerated. Results of questionnaires administered during the last 2 conferences and addressing health behavior patterns of survivors will be presented. Conclusions: We can evaluate through post conference support group discussions and conference feedback, qualify patient psychological and social health as 1) Physical:There are side effects but I choose to go on; 2) Mental: There are times that I am low, depressed, anxious, scared, guilty, but this is my new normal; 3) Emotional:Little things upset me, angry quickly but I am dealing with it; 4)Spiritual:Moved away from bargaining with God to accepting, from rituals to spiritual; 5) Social:don’t hesitate to reach out for support and to support; and 5) Intellectual:Knowledge is power, so I have learned to ask, to question, and then to decide. Achieving psychological and social health is the effort of the patient, the treating team and the support group.

Abstract:
Diabetic foot infection is one of the most severe complications of diabetes mellitus. Immediately seeking medical attention is vital after foot ulcers occur; however there are often delays in seeking treatment. This study used a qualitative descriptive approach to explore the perceptions of delay in people seeking medical help for foot ulcers in three villages in Baise, rural areas of southwest China. Fifteen patients were recruited in this study. In-depth interviews were performed to collect data from August to October 2022, and thematic analysis was used to analyze the data. This study identified four main themes: personal estimation; supernatural and traditional power; health service expertise, cost and access to hospital care; and psychological and complementary care. Inadequate awareness of potential ulcers and a preference for alternative methods significantly contributed to delays in medical foot care. Additionally, a shortage in community healthcare services impeded the timely initiation of proper foot care actions. It was worth noting that the preference for Traditional Chinese Therapy was relevant to the delay in seeking medical attention on foot, yet it was not perceived before. These findings serve as crucial evidence for developing interventions and future policy adjustments. Further consideration of the multifaceted impacts is necessary to incentivize prompt treatment decisions for diabetic foot ulcers. Nurse specialists should be concerned regarding psychological care, and dual-way support between nurses and families is vital for prompt medical care-seeking. Nursing education should emphasize knowledge of pathophysiology integrating prayer merits and Chinese therapies for patient empowerment.
