Abstract:
An osteophyte is a fibrocartilage-capped bony outgrowth that is one of the features of osteoarthritis. This study reviewed the types, risk factors, pathophysiology, clinical presentations, and medical and surgical treatment of osteophytes. Extraspinal osteophytes are classified as marginal, central, periosteal, or capsular, whereas vertebral osteophytes are classified as traction or claw. Risk factors for development of osteophytes include age, body mass index, physical activity, and other genetic and environmental factors. Transforming growth factor β plays a role in the pathophysiology of osteophyte formation. Osteophytes can cause pain, limit range of motion, affect quality of life, and cause multiple symptoms at the spine. Medical treatment involves the use of bisphosphonates and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents. Surgical treatment in the form of cheilectomy for impingement syndromes during joint replacement is recommended.

Abstract:
Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) is proceeded in successive stages of cancer removal. Each stage lasts from 1 to 2 hours, depending on the tumor size. So it is very important to predict the number of phases of the surgery so that one can plan better the time of the surgical room use, the time of the surgeon and his team, the use of anaesthetics, the surgical costs, to give the patient better orientations about his surgery and to ensure complete tumor erradication. With the intention to find predictive factors of the number of stages of MMS in the treatment of squamous cell carcinoma, we reviewed the record of 44 patients on a total of 51 surgeries proceeded in the dermatologic surgical clinic of the Dermatological Division of HC-FMUSP/SP from 1994 to 2003. For the number of stages in the MMS we established 3 groups: 1 stage, 2 stages and 3 or more stages. These groups were compared with regard to this variables: continuance of the lesion until the surgery, morphology and size of the lesion, lesion limits, primary or recurrent cancer, histological grade (Broders) and anatomic localization. In the univariated analysis one single factor was significant: the distribution of the recurrent cancers related to the number of stages of the surgery that was different from the distribution of the primary ones (p=0.081, Fisher\'s exact test), been higher the number of stages for the recurrent cancers. In the multivariated analysis, there were no statistically significant factors associated with higher number of stages of the surgery. In the analysis of the odss ratio, we noted a higher chance of a higher number of stages for the variables: inaccurate clinical limits, ulcerated lesions, recurrent cancer, higher aggressive histology and tumor bigger than 1 cm.

Guimarães, Carlos Filipe Mendes. "“COVID-19: cardiovascular disease”: glossary and translation of a Portuguese medical review article into English." Master's thesis, 2021. http://hdl.handle.net/10773/32023.

Abstract:
This project has two main goals, first being to simulate a real-world professional translation carried out during the thesis’s development, i.e., the first half of 2021; and secondly to answer the research question “Can non-medical specialists translate medical texts?”, by ascertaining as to who ideally should be carrying out medical translations: medical translators, or medical professionals? Leading translation scholars have revealed their findings and presented arguments to back up their claims and stance. For the practical part of the project, a translation of a Portuguese medical review article titled “COVID-19: Cardiovascular Disease” was carried out, in which renowned Portuguese virologists and cardiologists collated scientific information which sought to find out why COVID-19-infected patients with cardiovascular comorbidities have higher death rates. This particular theme was chosen as a way to contribute to the COVID-19 translation pool, as well as meet the current translation market’s demand. Despite not being a virologist or a cardiologist, I was still able to carry out this translation. I was also able to corroborate if this experience was in alignment or discordance with the viewpoint of translation scholars on who should be able to translate specialized medical texts. I was also able to explain how I was able to conduct the translation, in spite of not being a specialist in either of these specialized subject fields. Finally, I also discuss how this translation made me arrive at the conclusions that European Portuguese resources and tools are limited; how machine translation can be a helpful tool; and why the general idea that a translator, should ideally only translate into their native language, since it will be easier for them, does not always hold true.

Abstract:
碩士
銘傳大學
法律學系碩士在職專班
106
The trial of medical criminal cases in Taiwan is time-consuming and requires more trial time than other types of criminal proceedings. The dilemma of medical personnel is not punishable by penalties, but rather the lengthy time-consuming litigation and psychological pressure brought by criminal prosecutions . There is no difference between Taiwan and Germany in terms of the relevant provisions of the criminal law. However, compared with Germany, the medical profession in Taiwan often suffers from lawsuits. The problem is not with the provisions of the criminal law itself, but with the application of the criminal law applicable to the law. In any act of behavior, there exists Cause/ Result relationship. An action may be the Cause that initiates a process to be put forth in motion, which derives at a certain Result. The occurrence of medical behavior is based on the premise that a prior lesion occurs, and a pathological causal process precedes after the initiation of the patient's life or the body and legal interests are attacked, will there be medical intervention. However, the lesion itself does not have the necessary interception, therefore, should not be given an absolute interception of medical acts as interception. Due to the diversity of individual human beings, medical behaviors are highly risky both in the diagnosis and in the treatment phase, which leads to the risk of being changed. In order to consider the patients' greatest interests and rapidly changing medical sites, clinical professionals should be given medical staff discreet space. Under the principle of equality, medical criminal cases and non-medical criminal cases apply the criminal law of the Republic of China. However, based on the characteristics of the above-mentioned medical behaviors, they have different legal application processes. This article sorts out the applicable process of criminal law applicable to criminal cases of medical negligence: (1) First, confirm the "scope" of the "medical obligation" of "medical staff" in the case. (2) if the "medical staff" has fulfilled the "medical obligation", then that person will not be guilty of a crime of negligence. (3) Whether there is an "objective (proposed) causal link between" medical practice "and" outcome "of" medical staff "and" failure to perform medical obligations ". (4) "according to the circumstances" and "medical staff" "should pay attention to and be careful not to notice" and therefore "negligent" failed to fulfill their "medical obligation". (5) "Elements of negative constitutional elements" - "Objectively unavoidable" have not been realized at the same time. Medical staff meet the above conditions to establish criminal liability for medical negligence. The Legislative Yuan read and approved the draft amendment to Article 82 of the "Medical Law" on December 29, 2017, of which the third and fourth stipulated the constitutional defects of the criminal liability of medical personnel and the discretionary matters. This revision is based on the "principle of equality". Legalization of “Criminal Cases Involving Medical Treatment (Application of Criminal Law) Highlights" has not substantially modified any criminal law nor has it limited the scope on the establishment of negligence for medical personnel. Enlisting "reasonable clinical professional discretion" into law ought to be the biggest highlight of this revision. However, due to the lack of content, it cannot be placed in the constituent elements of negligence as judgments, and it is difficult to achieve the purpose of legislation. While judiciary has recognized the "reasonable clinical discretion" for medical treatment, this article proposes further stipulating it in the "Essentials of Medical Discrimination Appraisal" as a criterion for fulfilling medical obligations in order to enhance its importance and propose amendments clarified the reasons, that follow-up medical treatment of criminal cases should pay attention to the point of legal amendments to the proposal.

Abstract:
This article provides a historical, ethical, and conceptual review of medical futility disputes in the intensive care unit (ICU). Particular emphasis is placed on the role that physician power plays in these disputes. Specifically, the article analyzes the circumstances and arguments proposed to justify when physicians may stop life-sustaining treatment without the consent of either the patient or surrogate. The article begins by reviewing the history of the medical futility movement and the causes of medical futility disputes. Second, the major positions and policy statements addressing how such disputes should be resolved are summarized. Third, the article turns from an objective, descriptive approach to a more normative approach by highlighting the value-laden nature of most “futility” judgments regarding potentially inappropriate treatment. Finally, an outline of how clinicians should respond to requests for ICU interventions that they deem medically or ethically inappropriate is provided.

Abstract:
This conclusion discusses the political significance of different definitions of the body for slaves, slaveholders, and physicians in the antebellum South. It begins by telling the story of T. S. Hopkins, a physician from Waynesville, Georgia, who published an article titled “A Remarkable Case of Feigned Disease” in the March 1853 Charleston Medical Journal and Review. In his article, Hopkins presented “the history of the case” of a slave man named Nat, who was suffering from “liver affection.” The doctor initially interpreted Nat's condition in terms of hysteria, but later claimed it was “the result of a severe attack of climate fever.” This conclusion argues that Hopkins's presentation of Nat's story is illustrative of the ways in which the body politic of the South was rooted in race and sex. In particular, it considers Hopkins's recognition of the power of the body in defining slavery. It also describes how science and medicine reinforced each other; medicine served to define bodies and minds and their characteristics with the growing authority of science.

Abstract:
This chapter reviews the international standards providing for teaching and disseminating religious materials as well as concerning missionary activity. Articles 18 of the UDHR and ICCPR explicitly refer to the freedom to manifest one’s religion or belief in ‘teaching’, which is complemented in the subsequent article about the freedom to seek, receive, and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers. In addition, article 6 of the 1981 Declaration specifically guarantees freedom to write, issue, and disseminate relevant publications in these areas; to teach a religion or belief in places suitable for these purposes; and to establish and maintain communications with individuals and communities in matters of religion or belief at the national and international levels. While it is prohibited to use or threaten physical force or to coerce individuals in other ways, missionary activities should not be curtailed through vague concepts, such as ‘inducement’, ‘allurement’, or ‘unethical conversion’, which still exist in several national criminal law provisions against ‘proselytism’.

Abstract:
In the past few years there have been many blogs, short articles, and comments through various media about stimulus without debt and helicopter money. This chapter reviews some of these writings and reacts to them. It begins with an article written decades ago by Milton Friedman presenting a helicopter money parable. Stimulus without debt is similar to helicopter money in some ways but differs in others. It’s similar because in both the helicopter money parable and the stimulus-without-debt plan the population receives newly created money as a transfer that can be kept, not a loan that must be repaid. Stimulus without debt differs from helicopter money because stimulus without debt creates checks and balances by assigning specific roles to specific institutions in its implementation; and because Friedman dropped helicopter money on a fully employed economy whereas stimulus without debt should only be applied to an economy in recession. These articles and blogs about stimulus without debt and helicopter money indicate that the proposal has made headway in receiving attention and some support.

Abstract:
This article reviews comparative research on electoral systems and voting behavior, identifying analytical gaps in the tactical voting literature. It starts by examining the core assumptions underpinning the classic approach to tactical voting. It then displays some empirical data about the estimates of this behavior reported in the literature. Contrasting experiences of theoretical and methodological issues in majoritarian and non-majoritarian systems are discussed. Focusing on some difficulties in the application of the “avoiding wasted vote” motivations under PR and mixed-member rules, the article furthers the consolidation of research on tactical voting beyond FPTP systems. The last section suggests that future scholarship in this field should move beyond the “wasted vote” approach to tactical voting and distinguish between instrumental and expressive motivations, consider the long-term consequences of tactical voting, and stress the endogenous nature of tactical voting and the role of parties and media in spreading it.

Abstract:
Abstract This review aims to answer the following questions: (1) how knowledgeable are adolescent girls in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) about menstruation and how prepared are they for reaching menarche, (2) who are their sources of information regarding menstruation, (3) how well do the adults around them respond to their information needs, (4) what negative health and social effects do adolescents experience as a result of menstruation, and (5) how do adolescents respond when they experience these negative effects and what practices do they develop as a result? Using a structured search strategy, articles that investigate young girls’ preparedness for menarche, knowledge of menstruation, and practices surrounding menstrual hygiene in LMIC were identified. A total of 81 studies published in peer-reviewed journals between the years 2000 and 2015 that describe the experiences of adolescent girls from 25 different countries were included. Adolescent girls in LMIC are often uninformed and unprepared for menarche. Information is primarily obtained from mothers and other female family members who are not necessarily well equipped to fill gaps in girls’ knowledge. Exclusion and shame lead to misconceptions and unhygienic practices during menstruation. Rather than seek medical consultation, girls tend to miss school, self-medicate, and refrain from social interaction. Also problematic is that relatives and teachers are often not prepared to respond to the needs of girls. LMIC must recognize that lack of preparation, knowledge, and poor practices surrounding menstruation are key impediments not only to girls’ education, but also to self-confidence and personal development. In addition to investment in private latrines with clean water for girls in both schools and communities, countries must consider how to improve the provision of knowledge and understanding and how to better respond to the needs of adolescent girls.

Abstract:
Abstract Overarching strategies at the European level underline the importance of mobility, thus promoting the higher education offer should be among the key topics that dominate the internationalization agenda in Romania, in the context of a highly competitive market worldwide. The paper highlights the disconnect between the internationalization strategies of Romanian universities and concrete measures undertaken to promote their educational offer. The paper includes a short analysis of how HEIs promote their study offer internationally, using three Romanian universities as case studies. Starting from a review of institutional internationalization strategies, strategic plans for institutional development and methods and instruments used to promote their educational offer, the article also includes the analysis and conclusions of a questionnaire, highlighting the most popular promotional mechanisms used to attract international students. Conclusions show that HEIs perceive as the most effective promotional tools, i.e. the English website, word of mouth, participation at International Education Fairs, promotion via other portals. Despite international trends, social media is still not deemed essential to advertise their educational offer to international students.

Abstract:
Abdominal compartment syndrome and intra-abdominal hypertension (IAH) has been widely studied in surgical and trauma patients, even though the incidence of IAH in medical intensive care unit (MICU) remains high. Studies have shown that the time to decision making regarding diagnosis and management of IAH is twice in MICU compared to the corresponding surgical side. MICU patients often require large volume resuscitation such as in sepsis, hemorrhage, or an inflammatory condition such as acute pancreatitis, which increases the risk of development of IAH. It is often underdiagnosed and undertreated in MICU due to a lack of awareness of the consequences and mortality associated with it. Elevated intra-abdominal pressure has systemic effects causing atelectatic lungs, decreased cardiac output, and renal insufficiency. IAH, if not recognized early, can quickly progress to compartment syndrome causing multiorgan failure and death. Approach to ACS management between medical and surgical intensivists varies largely because of lack of experience with surgical decompression. This article provides an overview of definitions, incidence, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis, and management of IAH and abdominal compartment syndrome in critically in medical patients.

Abstract:
How does one study medical discourse in Romantic periodicals? This methodological essay outlines a range of possible approaches in a digital age, taking Blackwood’s as a test case. Its open by offering a series of practical steps for identifying medical articles in the magazine, including usings contents pages, published and digital bibliographical materials, targeted keyword searches, and attribution indexes. One particularly difficulty is identifying and determining what constitutes a ‘medical article’, particularly in the case of magazines like Blackwood’s, where the tradition of explicitly categorising articles gave way to the miscellany format. This organizational shift gave rise to such generic hybrids such as the ‘medico-literary’ review and the ‘medico-popular’ short story. Arguing that the study of medical discourse in Blackwood’s will never be exhaustive with the manual and digital tools currently available, the remainder of this paper models how one might productively study identifiable strands of medical discourse in the magazine, focusing on a series of medico-literary reviews written by John Wilson in the character of ‘Christopher North’.

Stephenson, Katherine. "A Detailed Five-Year Review of Medical Device Additive Manufacturing Research and its Potential for Translation to Clinical Practice." In ASME 2015 International Design Engineering Technical Conferences and Computers and Information in Engineering Conference. Abstract:
This paper provides a systematic review of over 350 publications that document specific medical device examples in which the design and manufacturing relied on additive manufacturing processes (more popularly referred to as “3d Printing”). Existing reviews on 3d printing for medical device design focus on the range of clinical applications and potential uses for this technology. However, existing work tends to omit key medical device development and regulatory requirements pertaining to the use of 3d printing for technology translation. These omissions often present a skewed view of each device’s potential for rapid translation to commercialization and common clinical practice. To fill gaps in existing literature, this review includes medical device journal articles and identifies each article’s country of origin, the product development stage in which 3d printing was used, and the device’s specific type and classification under the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The findings from this systematic review provide a detailed international snapshot of current additive manufacturing research and its near term potential for changing clinical practice.

Abstract:
Flexible electronics and 3D printing are quickly reshaping the world in many aspects spanning from science, technology to industry and social society. However, there still exist many barriers to impede further progress of the areas. One of the biggest bottlenecks lies in the strong shortage of appropriate functional inks. Among the many printable materials ever tried such as conductive polymers, powdered plastic, metal particles or other adhesive materials, the liquid metal or its alloy is quickly emerging as a powerful electronic ink with diverse capabilities from which direct printing of flexible electronics and room temperature 3D printing for manufacturing metal structures are enabled. All these fabrication capabilities are attributed to the unique properties of such metal’s low melting point (generally less than 100 °C), flowable feature and high electrical conductivity etc. To better push forward the research and application of the liquid metal printed electronics and 3D manufacture, this article is dedicated to present an overview on the fundamental research advancements in processing and developing the liquid metal inks. Particularly, the flow, thermal, phase change and electrical properties of a group of typical liquid metals and their alloy inks will be systematically summarized and comparatively evaluated. Some of the practical applications of these materials in a wide variety of flexible electronics fabrication, 3D printing and medical sensors etc. will be briefly illustrated. Further, we also explained the basic categories of the liquid metal material genome towards discovering new functional alloy ink materials as initiated in the authors’ lab and interpret the important scientific and technical challenges lying behind. Perspective and future potentials of the liquid metal inks in more areas were also suggested.

Full text
Abstract:
Background. Timely discharge of hospitalized patients can prevent patient harm, improve patient satisfaction and quality of life, and reduce costs. Numerous strategies have been tested to improve the efficiency and safety of patient recovery and discharge, but hospitals continue to face challenges. Purpose. This Technical Brief aimed to identify and synthesize current knowledge and emerging concepts regarding systematic strategies that hospitals and health systems can implement to reduce length of stay (LOS), with emphasis on medically complex or vulnerable patients at high risk for prolonged LOS due to clinical, social, or economic barriers to timely discharge. Methods. We conducted a structured search for published and unpublished studies and conducted interviews with Key Informants representing vulnerable patients, hospitals, health systems, and clinicians. The interviews provided guidance on our research protocol, search strategy, and analysis. Due to the large and diverse evidence base, we limited our evaluation to systematic reviews of interventions to decrease hospital LOS for patients at potentially higher risk for delayed discharge; primary research studies were not included, and searches were restricted to reviews published since 2010. We cataloged the characteristics of relevant interventions and assessed evidence of their effectiveness. Findings. Our searches yielded 4,364 potential studies. After screening, we included 19 systematic reviews reported in 20 articles. The reviews described eight strategies for reducing LOS: discharge planning; geriatric assessment or consultation; medication management; clinical pathways; inter- or multidisciplinary care; case management; hospitalist services; and telehealth. All reviews included adult patients, and two reviews also included children. Interventions were frequently designed for older (often frail) patients or patients with chronic illness. One review included pregnant women at high risk for premature delivery. No reviews focused on factors linking patient vulnerability with social determinants of health. The reviews reported few details about hospital setting, context, or resources associated with the interventions studied. Evidence for effectiveness of interventions was generally not robust and often inconsistent—for example, we identified six reviews of discharge planning; three found no effect on LOS, two found LOS decreased, and one reported an increase. Many reviews also reported patient readmission rates and mortality but with similarly inconsistent results. Conclusions. A broad range of strategies have been employed to reduce LOS, but rigorous systematic reviews have not consistently demonstrated effectiveness within medically complex, high-risk, and vulnerable populations. Health system leaders, researchers, and policymakers must collaborate to address these needs.

Abstract:
The article reviews and analyzes the promotion of Ukrainian publishing houses on Facebook during quarantine in 2020. The study’s main objective is content and its types, which were used for representing on Facebook. We found out that going live and posting a text with a picture was most popular. The phenomenon of live video is tightly connected to the quarantine phenomenon. Though, not every publishing house was able to go live permanently or at least regular. However, simple text with a picture is the most uncomplicated content to post and the most popular. Ukrainian publishers also use UGC (User Generated Content), situational content, and different contexts. The biggest problem for Ukrainian publishers is continual strategic work with social media for promotion. During quarantine, social media became the first channel for communication with customers and subscribers. Therefore promotion on the Internet and in social media indeed should become equivalent to offline promotion.

Abstract:
This study focuses on disaster impacts and recovery in Tamil Nadu, drawing on insights from Chennai city and Nagapattinam district. The research is part of a larger three-year project called “Recovery with Dignity”, which examines the experiences of recovery in post-disaster situations across three states in India – Odisha, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala – and explores how recovery processes represent vulnerable populations. In this report, we focus on three key disasters in Tamil Nadu: the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami, the 2015 South India flood, and the 2018 Cyclone Gaja. Through these events, we examine how the ways disasters and their losses are represented shape recovery outcomes. The study uses a range of data, from a review of state policies in Tamil Nadu (2005-2019), an analysis of media articles published in English and Tamil (2004-2019), to interviews with disaster-affected people and secondary stakeholders. The findings indicate that disaster responses and outcomes are highly differentiated based on how disaster-affected people and their needs and losses are represented. To enable inclusive recovery, it is necessary to recognising the heterogenous nature of disaster impacts and acknowledge different ideas of what recovery means.

Melnyk, Olesia. MEDIA DISCOURSE AROUND THE FIGURE OF ORIANA FALLACHI AND HER JOURNALISM DURING 2017–2020. Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.30970/vjo.2021.50.11114.

Abstract:
The article analyzes the media discourse around the figure of Oriana Fallachi and her journalistic work during 2017-2020. The actual media image of the figure of Fallachi is highlighted, examples of positive and negative statements are given. It is substantiated why her journalism should be researched in various ways, taking into account other aspects of her work that are not related to Islamophobia. The subject of the study is critical texts in modern foreign media dedicated to the author’s work. The objective of the study is to outline the media discourse around the figure of Oriana Fallaci and her journalism during 2017-2020. The methodology. The following methods have been used in the process of scientific research: historical, comparative, systems analysis, content synthesis, and others. The main results. In total, we have analyzed eight materials in foreign publications, published over the past 3 years, as well as the two most famous biographies of Oriana Fallaci. Some of the most recent reviewed texts have been published in the last few months, reflecting the interest in the author’s journalism, her writing, and reporting. Therefore, we see the need for further tracking and analysis of this body of texts. Conclusions. Critics of Fallaci express polar views that are not all negative. Authors recommend quite cautiously her texts for reading, emphasizing their positive aspects. Both Fallaci’s biographies are also not entirely complementary: some aspects of her work are glorified, others are condemned. We managed to find general tendencies in the criticism of Oriana Fallaci’s journalism. These include accusations of xenophobia and Islamophobia, uncompromisingness, lack of political correctness, and moral value. The authors emphasize, at the same time, the openness and directness that bribe the reader, patriotism and honesty, strength of spirit and firmness of position. Significance of the research. The analysis of the latest criticism reveals what kind of media image Fallachi’s figure has today, and gives the possibility to research it for demonization and one-sided coverage. This is important not only for thorough research of the author’s work but also for understanding how the modern world perceives journalism, which is contrary to the generally accepted principles of political correctness, journalistic ethics, and humanity.

Abstract:
The subject of the study is the cooperation of S. Efremov with Western Ukrainian periodicals as a page in the history of Ukrainian journalism which covers the relationship of journalists and scientists of Eastern and Western Ukraine at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries. Research methods (biographical, historical, comparative, axiological, statistical, discursive) develop the comprehensive disclosure of the article. As a result of scientific research, the origins of Ukrainocentrism in the personality of S. Efremov were clarified; his person as a public figure, journalist, publisher, literary critic is multifaceted; taking into account the specifics of the memoir genre and with the involvement of the historical context, the turning points in the destiny of the author of memoirs are interpreted, revealing cooperation with Western Ukrainian magazines and newspapers. The publications ‘Zoria’, ‘Narod’, ‘Pravda’, ‘Bukovyna’, ‘Dzvinok’, are secretly got into sub-Russian Ukraine, became for S. Efremov a spiritual basis in understanding the specifics of the national (Ukrainian) mass media, ideas of education in culture of Ukraine at the end of XIX century, its territorial integrity, and state independence. Memoirs of S. Efremov on cooperation with the iconic Galician journals ‘Notes of the Scientific Society after the name Shevchenko’ and ‘Literary-Scientific Bulletin’, testify to an important stage in the formation of the author’s worldview, the expansion of the genre boundaries of his journalism, active development as a literary critic. S. Yefremov collaborated most fruitfully and for a long time with the Literary-Scientific Bulletin, and he was impressed by the democratic position of this publication. The author’s comments reveal a long-running controversy over the publication of a review of the new edition of Kobzar and thematically related discussions around his other literary criticism, in which the talent of the demanding critic was forged. S. Efremov steadfastly defended the main principles of literary criticism: objectivity and freedom of author’s thought. The names of the allies of the Ukrainian idea L. Skochkovskyi, O. Lototskyi, O. Konyskyi, P. Zhytskyi, M. Hrushevskyi in S. Efremov’s memoirs unfold in multifaceted portrait descriptions and function as historical and cultural facts that document the pages of the author’s biography, record his activities in space and time. The results of the study give grounds to characterize S. Efremov as the first professional Ukrainian-speaking journalist.
