Abstract: Kasten gives updates on the initiative to create an Old Spanish Dictionary at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Kasten explains how the concordances for the dictionary project that were originally written on paper index cards and then encoded using keypunch cards for early computers were now being checked on video display before being sent to tape for recoding, giving us a glimpse of a very early "big-data" project that involved a prototype of a personal computer. He also outlines several projects that developed out of the original initiative.

Abstract:
There are some studies that analyze definitions of the term “suicide” in academic works, as well as in generalist dictionaries and encyclopedias in several languages, but there still seems to be no investigation focused on specialized dictionaries and encyclopedias (SDEs) on this topic. Hence the general objective of this study was to describe the suicide SDEs available in the literature. To accomplish this purpose, a basic, quantitative, qualitative, descriptive, bibliographical and documental method was used. The 12 criteria proposed by John Humbley in 2018 for the analysis of SDEs were dete

The present work establishes a corpus that includes the phraseological units comprising “white” and “black” in 8 Spanish dictionaries and 6 Chinese dictionaries, within which a quantitative and qualitative analysis is carried out on the semantics of said phraseological units. The study discovers that through the metaphorical and metonymic process, similar figurative meanings come mainly from the physical perception of the environment and one's own colors, and the different meanings are motivated by cultural specificity, especially religions, superstitions, mythologies and legends; in Spanish,

Abstract:
This paper constructs a diachronic analysis of the lexicography of the term denoting the Spanish household spirit, the duende, focusing on the period between approx. 1490 and 1791. I aim to analyse the linguistic path of the household deity in discourse, in order to see how its depiction has changed. The evolution of the being reflects upon the social perception of the spirit, but also upon societal changes. Cultural associations readily available to the authors of the dictionaries under analysis reveal themselves in the alternation between “low-brow”, folkloric beliefs, and the “high-brow”, l

The Mixtec language is one of the main native languages in Mexico. In general, due to urbanization, discrimination, and limited attempts to promote the culture, the native languages are disappearing. Most of the information available about the Mixtec language is in written form as in dictionaries which, although including examples about how to pronounce the Mixtec words, are not as reliable as listening to the correct pronunciation from a native speaker. Formal acoustic resources, as speech corpora, are almost non-existent for the Mixtec, and no speech technologies are known to have been devel

This paper deals with the analysis of idioms containing the lexeme “eye” in the Italian, Spanish and Serbian languages. Since somatic idioms, especially those with the lexeme “eye”, represent a large part of the phraseological fund of three languages, only those idioms that express attention/caution were analyzed. Italian was the source language, whereas Spanish and Serbian are the target languages. The initial hypothesis was that two typologically related languages (Italian and Spanish) would share more common phraseological characteristics in comparison to typologi- cally unrelated language
