Abstract:
Victorian periodicals were an important part of the literary marketplace that shaped Jane Austen’s critical reception during the nineteenth century. Moreover, throughout the century, periodical authors used the critical conversation around Austen to create a space for themselves and their work in the press by beginning to shape a critical canon, as well as by raising and responding to questions about the nature of Victorian women’s authorship. Focusing on articles published during the mid-Victorian period (1852–1868), prior to the publication of James Edward Austen-Leigh’s 1870 A Memoir of Jane Austen, this essay considers Austen’s presence in periodical writing in the middle of the nineteenth century and explores how writers used both Austen herself and her writings to accomplish their own authorial ends.

Abstract:
Scientific and research periodicals play an extremely important part in popularizing (and promoting) results of research studies, though this role is not equally appreciated across different domains of science. This becomes apparent if we compare the number of traditional and electronic titles of periodicals in such disciplines as medicine, natural science and exact science on the one side, and those that represent the humanities, broadly understood, on the other. The advantage of electronic content in the former group is overwhelming. Nowadays, we use two terms in relation to periodicals available online and launched on the electronic platform. The terms make a distinction between a degree of their involvement in the cyber space. “Digitalization” means a certain transitory state between traditional periodicals in print and virtual publications; in other words, a product of “digitization” is an electronic copy (e.g. a scanned text) of a text originally published in print, whereas the notion of “digital authorship (the author as digital producer), in Polish: cyfryzacja” deals with an entirely electronic publication with specific properties underlined by multimedia and hypertext capabilities. Digital research information as an entirely new quality has not been yet appropriately appreciated. The history of education as a discipline of research does not have its own electronic platform that would offer peer-reviewed research papers in Open Access (OA), e-books or electronic document repositories. For the time being, the most recent Polish periodical within this discipline, i.e. Biuletyn Historii Wychowania, has only a front page, ToCs and a masthead available online, without access to full-text electronic content.

Abstract:
A lot of newly established periodicals aiming at international recognition face the problem of finding foreign editors and authors of articles. It is more difficult for periodicals that are not included in respected databases to compete in attracting new authors with more reputable ones. There are quite a few recommendations for promoting a journal in order to involve potential authors who want to submit their articles to the journal. However, practical experience suggests that it is quite a challenge to involve foreign authors. In attracting high-quality materials, it is necessary to employ a multi-faceted approach to the development of a periodical concerning the following issues: the website of the journal; its content; cooperation with authors; use of external resources. It is vital to revise the duties of the editorial board members, who prepare up-to-date reviews in related areas and journal headings that cover a range of issues concerning an international audience or trigger a scientific dialogue among overseas authors.

Abstract:
The article studies periodical publications as sources for the historical approach to the daily life of the Greek population in the North of Pryazovia. It has been determined that the main position among newspaper periodicals take “Journal of the Ministry of State Property”, “Journal of the Ministry of Internal Affairs”, materials of Russian agricultural journals “The Owner” and “The Fruit-growing”, including notes published in “Notes of the Society of Agriculture of South Russia” and “Notes of the Odessa Society of History and Antiquities”. “Journal of the Ministry of State Property”, which represents the Ministry of the State Property founded in 1841, plays a special role among newspaper periodicals. Its value and specificity embrace numerous publications based on documents and narrations, which have been lost. It has been stated, that the materials of newspaper periodicals and publications of scientific societies are quite informative and they envisage different aspects of daily life: financial support, main activities, public order, mentality and temper peculiarities, common diseases, traditions, etc. It has been found, that the authors of these articles are mainly scientists, officials, or medical authorities. Information, published in these periodicals, differs significantly in authenticity, as these authors witnessed most of the events. They took the information from the official sources; they usually checked it themselves and then it was to be selected carefully. The authors tried to give a full and realistic review of the mode of life of the Greek people in the North of Pryazovia, that they were observing during the work performed on the articles. It has been noted, that inevitable value possesses an essay of Kaleri G., a metropolitan doctor, who gave a very precise review on common diseases among the Greek population, their nature in different seasons, and treatments. Kaleri G. contributed greatly to a medical center by adding his own observations and conclusions regarding the daily life of the Greek people.

How are women represented, specifically women of colour, in architecture library collections? I focus on two major trade periodicals to find out: Architectural Review (a British publication) and Architectural Record (American). I analyse firms highlighted in these periodicals in 2019, researching the proportion of women in leadership per each featured company. I compare against demographic and occupational statistics in the respective countries to see if these periodicals accurately represent the field, or further reinforce antiquated notions. My findings suggest that who the periodicals highlight is roughly proportionate or more diverse than the field itself, but the field continues to mostly represent white men as successful architects. Library collections reify that notion. In order to decentre the monolithic nature of many library collections, I further suggest approaches to increasing diversity based on my own initiatives.

Current African Bibliographies: A Comparison Five internationally used current bibliographies are here compared with respect to their coverage of the periodical literature, the degree of their overlapping, and three basic aspects of their layout (list of analyzed periodicals, arrangement of references, index construction). As regards coverage, the most striking conclusion is the low to minimal rate of overlapping, so that it would be rather risky for the student to rely on one bibliography only, even the most extensive. Coverage, of course, is not the sole factor in assessing the value of a bibliography. The five bibliographies differ widely in their organisation and are by far not equally easy to use.

Abstract:
The article analyzes the participation of N.Ya. Danilevsky in the periodicals of the authoritative conservative publicist of the 1860–1880s M.N. Katkov – “Russian Vestnik” magazine and “Moscow Vedomosti” journal. The author identifies the reasons that brought together the thinker and the editors of influential conservative periodicals and analyzes the common views of Danilevsky and Katkov on a number of important issues of Russian domestic and foreign policy. Special attention is paid to the “Slavic question”, which was differently interpreted by Danilevsky and the writers of the Katkov’s circle, however that did not prevent the thinker to participate in those periodicals in the 1880s. The author of the article attempts to determine the role of the fragments of the third, unfinished part of Danilevsky’s work “Darwinism” published after his death in the «Russian Vestnik», in the polemics over the teachings of Charles Darwin that went on in Katkov's periodicals and the liberal democratic press in the 1880s.

Abstract:
The paper presents a content review of “the International Relations of Ukraine: Scientific Searches and Findings” (issues 1-29 from 1991 to 2020). The author highlights that after Ukraine regained its independence in 1991, a wide network of Ukrainian periodicals in the humanities was established. These periodicals perform an important coordinating function, accumulate the efforts of authors, editors and reviewers from different regions of Ukraine and foreign countries and unite them into united teams, as well as reflect trends in scientific development, provide an opportunity to discuss topical issues, influence the dynamics of conceptual updating of socio-humanitarian disciplines in Ukraine. In 1991, the first specialised periodical on world history in independent Ukraine – the Yearbook "International Relations of Ukraine: Scientific Searches and Findings" – was created. The purpose of this Yearbook is to coordinate research carried out by representatives of "the Historical European Studies" Ukrainian academic school. The founders of this school are corresponding members of the NAS of Ukraine F.P. Shevchenko (1914-1995), I.M. Mel'nykova (1918-2010) and P.S. Sokhan' (1926-2013). Since 1991, corresponding member of the NAS of Ukraine S.V. Vidnyanskyj heads the Department of World History and International Relations (since 2012 the Department of the History of International Relations and Foreign Policy of Ukraine) and leads the aforementioned academic school. In general, the papers published in “the International Relations of Ukraine: Scientific Searches and Findings” from 1991 to 2020 contribute to the reconstruction of a broad panorama of international relations in the lands of Ukraine from the times of Kyivan Rus' until the early 21st century. During its almost thirty-year history, the Yearbook has become an influential periodical of Central and Eastern Europe, contributing to the coordination of fundamental research on world history and the understanding of key issues in world history and Ukraine's place in it

Abstract: The present work intends to analyze the importance of Mário de Sá-Carneiro to the periodical publications of his time. Starting with a general view crossing between the state of the art on this topic and the Portuguese poet’s participation in literary magazines, we will talk in particular about his collaboration, during the first world war, with the periodicals A Restauração and Ilustração Portuguesa. The first of these two periodicals had an ephemeral duration at the beginning of the first world war (1914), being a monarchical newspaper that preceded the magazine A Ideia Nacional (1915-16) also founded and directed by Homem Cristo Filho. It is, however, in Ilustração Portuguesa, on the other hand, that his war chronicle seems more resourceful and interesting. We will thus see how Sá-Carneiro, resident in Paris, assumes the description of the urban scenario of this new war involving the major world powers, and how this relates to his own literary work. Keywords: Mário de Sá-Carneiro; Modern Portuguese Literature; Modernist Studies; Periodicals; First World War.

Abstract:
The author reviewed the bibliography of performing arts medicine, from the beginnings of the specialty in the early 1980s to the present. Emphasis was placed on articles published in the last five full years reviewed (1997-2001). From a total of 5,550 references dating back more than 200 years, 1,366 were found in the 1997-2001 period. Nearly 82% were written in English, with French- and German-language articles comprising more than 90% of the rest. Within the study group, there were 972 music medicine references (71.2%) and 301 for dance medicine (22.0%). Scientific journals and books were the source of more than 70% of all articles found, with four performing arts medicine journals accounting for more than half of these. However, pertinent references were found in 279 different periodicals, as well as in a variety of textbooks. Of all arts-related periodicals, those pertaining to voice were most likely to contain health-related articles. Variations from year to year in total number of references, sources of references, and frequency of specific topics could be attributed to publication of texts with multiple chapter authors, journals containing multiple abstracts from a meeting, or journals with papers on a single topic derived from one symposium. It is expected that these statistics will continue to vary as new entries are added in future years. The data from this investigation should be useful to both researchers and clinicians in performing arts medicine, regarding both the sources of pertinent information and the authors and topics currently being published.

Abstract:
The current research opens a discussion about the status of the scientific periodicals in Bulgarian museums in view of the opportunities for its future enrichment in terms of content and fields of application. The focus is on presenting the initiatives of Bulgarian Regional Museums, with an accent on the Regional Historical Museum of Kyustendil. On the basis of a thorough review of its publications and their thematic range, the potential of museum periodicals has been explored in relation to the dual character of the museum – as an institution which collects, studies, keeps and preserves heritage, and at the same time presents it to various audiences. The main research goal has been set towards the identification of various practices for transforming the effect of the periodicals from purely scientific into scientific-and-applied, encouraging the promotion of the museum activities and improving the interaction with museum audiences. In terms of methodology, the team has worked with traditional approaches such as analysis and synthesis, comparison, abstraction, induction and deduction, summarization, and building presumptions. Conclusions have been drawn concerning the character of the periodicals published by Bulgarian museums, in view of involving more actively museum audiences in the future.

It combines with an earlier 5-year review, published in 2003 and covering 1997 to 2001, to review the last 10 years' literature in performing arts medicine. From a total of 8,412 references dating back more than 200 years, 2,030 were found in the study period. Nearly 85% of these were written in English, with French and German language articles comprising more than 87% of the rest. Within the study group, there were 1,438 music medicine references (70.8%) and 458 for dance medicine (22.6%). Scientific journals and books were the source of more than 62% of all articles, with five performing arts medicine journals accounting for more than 40% of these. However, pertinent references were found in 381 different periodicals, as well as in a variety of textbooks. Of all arts-related periodicals, those pertaining to voice and dance were most likely to contain health-related articles. Variations in the total number of references, sources of references, and frequency of specific topics occurred from year to year, and from the first study period to the second. These often can be attributed to publication of journals containing multiple abstracts from a meeting or journals with papers on a single topic—often derived from one symposium. Based on a comparison of the two 5-year reporting periods, these statistics will continue to vary as new entries are added in future years. The data from this investigation should be useful to both researchers and clinicians in performing arts medicine, regarding both the sources of pertinent information and the authors and topics currently being published.

Abstract:
The article addresses the problem of gender inequality in Ukrainian periodicals today. A detailed analysis of Ukrainian and foreign studies on the issue in question shows that women mostly deal with gender psychology. Besides, the article clarifies such concepts as “gender”, “gender psychology”, “gender equality”, “sexism”, and “feminism” and “gender inequality”. In 2021, a Swedish-Ukrainian project was signed that marks the campaign for overcoming inequality of rights between men and women. There is also the project initiated by the European Union (GENPATH). Furthermore, emphasis is placed on linguistic sexism and gender inequality in the Ukrainian government, politics, jurisprudence, healthcare. Considerable attention is paid to the most common violations of rights of women psychologists (motherhood, a lack of mentoring, uneven distribution of rights). Another issue is gender inequality in the family and its possible consequences. Quite noteworthy are findings on gender roles in European countries, sexism, and, most importantly, the significance of gender equality. One can see that the main reasons behind gender inequality for women are the dominance of men and, interestingly, the Covid-19 pandemic outburst. The article proves that the media cover men more often than women. Finally, it indicates that men find it hard to struggle with “the male crisis”.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the study of Polish periodicals of 1899–1931 for the presence of publications about V. Stefanyk. In Stefanyk studies, literary criticism works devoted to the works of Vasyl Stefanyk and Polish translations of his works were studied, but the issues of intravital publications have not been highlighted yet separately. The work of the Ukrainian novelist was the subject of interest on a range of Polish scholars, literary critics, and translators. The reviews of V. Stefanyk’s works were published in a number of popular Polish periodicals, in particular “Czas”, “Krytyka”, “Nowa Reforma”, “Przegląd Powszechny”, “Życie”, “Ogniwo”, “Prawda”, “Pamiętnik Warszawski”, “Chwila”, “Promień”, which were published in three cities associated with Ukrainian and Polish cultures, namely: Warsaw, Krakow and Lviv. The authors of these reviews noted the V. Stefanyk’s talent originality, who, in his characteristic expressionist way, managed in the novella form to show the social-ideological issues of that time period in the Ukrainian national and, at the same time, universal dimension. A number of reviews belong to Wacław Moraczewski, who had an essential influence on the shaping of the young Ukrainian writer V. Stefanyk, and inscribed his works in the European context, emphasizing the national features of his talent. Polish translations of Stefanyk’s novellas were published in Polish periodicals, almost simultaneously with their Ukrainian publications. It has been found that, for ideological reasons, critical reviews of Ukrainian literary critics in Polish periodicals have not been studied by a number of Ukrainian researchers. All the reviews of V. Stefanyk’s work in Polish periodicals that have been discussed in the article, will help to clarify the Ukrainian writers’ work reception by Polish literary critics and to find out the thematic direction of the press in which they were published. Keywords:Vasyl Stefanyk, Polish press, Polish literary environment, reviews, popularization, thematic specialization of the press.

Abstract:
CONTEXT AND OBJECTIVE: The use of rigorous scientific methods has contributed towards developing scientific articles of excellent methodological quality. This has made it possible to promote their citation and increase the impact factor. Brazilian periodicals have had to adapt to certain quality standards demanded by these indexing organizations, such as the content and the number of original articles published in each issue. This study aimed to evaluate the methodological adequacy of two Brazilian periodicals within the field of cardiology that are indexed in several databases and freely accessible through the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), and which are now indexed by the Web of Science (Institute for Scientific Information, ISI). DESIGN AND SETTING: Descriptive study at Brazilian Cochrane Center. METHODS: All the published articles were evaluated according to merit assessment (content) and form assessment (performance). RESULTS: Ninety-six percent of the articles analyzed presented study designs that were adequate for answering the objectives. CONCLUSIONS: These two Brazilian periodicals within the field of cardiology published methodologically adequate articles, since they followed the quality standards. Thus, these periodicals can be considered both for consultation and as vehicles for publishing future articles. For further analyses, it is essential to apply other indicators of scientific activity such as bibliometrics, which evaluates quantitative aspects of the production, dissemination and use of information, and scientometrics, which is also concerned with the development of science policies, within which it is often superimposed on bibliometrics.

Abstract:
The types of publications of Polish cultural public organizations and societies in Ukraine and the main indicators of their activity are analyzed. All-Ukrainian and regional periodicals of the Polish minority in Ukraine are studied. Due to the activities of public cultural societies and organizations of the Polish minority, they have gained a foothold in the information space of Ukraine. The paper examines and lists the most widespread and influential registered regular and irregular periodicals which were published by Polish minority organizations and societies in Ukraine from 1991 to 2014. During this period, Polish NGOs founded more than 20 newspapers and magazines published throughout the country mainly in Polish and Ukrainian languages, while Russian was used in only some regions. Appendix 1 lists the largest regular and irregular periodicals of the studied period. It is proved that the Polish-language press and the press for the Polish minority in Ukraine not only meets the needs of Polonia in information about the historical homeland, but also greatly facilitates the exchange of information among Polish communities about their own lives. The formation and establishment of the largest all-Ukrainian and regional periodicals of Polish public organizations and societies in Ukraine are analyzed. The largest of them were: "Dziennik Kijowski", "Gazeta Lwowska", "Biuletyn Federacji Federacji Organizacji Polskich na Ukrainie", which since 2008 has been called "Nasze Drogi" and "Kurier Galicyjski". Analyzing them, it can be noted that the most common topics were religious and national holidays, major events and events held by Ukrainian Poles, as well as reports and information on the activities of organizations.

In 1979, the Canadian Society for the History of Medicine, founded in Quebec City, Canada, in 1950, inaugurated its first official organizational organ, Newsletter/Nouvelles, which ran for 10 issues in five annual volumes. In 1984, this modest means of institutional communication expanded to become the Canadian Bulletin of the History of Medicine / Bulletin canadien d’histoire de la médecine, a peer-reviewed journal that continues to the present. Central to the founding and operation of both publications was Kenneth B. Roberts of the Faculty of Medicine, Memorial University of Newfoundland. This discussion outlines the foundation, evolution, and activities of both these periodicals from 1979 to 1994. Their relationship to the growth of both the Canadian Society for the History of Medicine and the field of medical history in Canada are also delineated.

Abstract:
This article gives an overview of modern American society’s impact on the culture of interwar Lithuania; it studies how Hollywood formed Lithuanian gender stereotypes, reflected in periodicals and advertisements (1918–1940). The influence of Hollywood culture on interwar Lithuanian stereotypes has not been studied thoroughly. This work analyses the stereotypes found in selected periodicals by using gender stereotype theories and illustrating them with photographs and excerpts. One of the most popular interwar Lithuanian female stereotypes was based on the Hollywood idol Greta Garbo. She created a stereotype of a cruel, self-confident, modern woman. This article also discusses the Hollywood-based body cult, which became a goal for many Lithuanian women. After the analysis of advertisements, another tendency was noticed – young girls’ desire to become famous. Hollywood also formed three different male stereotypes: the caveman, the womanizer, and the gentleman. These modern stereotypes stand in contradiction with traditional manly virtues, they emphasize compassion and empathy, which are very important in critical situations. During the study, it was determined that Hollywood culture’s stereotypes began a sexual revolution. These stereotypes altered the concept of a traditional relationship through Lithuanian periodicals – it became much more open and oriented towards satisfying individual needs.

Abstract:
The Liepāja City Reading Library, founded in 1777, includes books primarily in German, but there are also publications in French and Latin. The founder of the library, Johann Andreas Grundt (1732–1802), pastor of the Latvian congregation of the Anna Church, gathered 50 readers during the first two weeks of the library’s existence. Over the years, books on the natural sciences, geography, history, medicine, law, art, travelogues, fiction, encyclopaedias, periodicals etc. have been stored on the library shelves. The reason for the library’s closure in 1799 was because of censorship; officials of the Russian Empire determined that the library contained banned books, including those related to the events of the French Revolution. The article identifies and studies works translated from French into German and created by German authors under the influence of the revolution and German periodicals from published library catalogues. Qualitative desk research methods and digital tools are used in the collection and analysis of the material. The objective of the research is to find what ideologically incorrect literature related to the French Revolution was represented in the Liepāja library at the end of the 18th century. The operational term of revolutionary literature is used to refer to the range of literature analysed in this study, which includes periodicals, almanacs, pamphlets, letters, speeches, and theatrical dialogues. The study concludes that it was possible for the readers of the Liepāja library to obtain detailed information on the events of the French Revolution and the political changes, as the proposed literature provides different views on the revolutionary events. The works of French authors express a pro-revolutionary opinion. The point of view of the German authors is more distant and differentiated – from the positions of the constitutional monarchy to the open and hostile condemnation of the revolution.

Abstract:
Forming, accumulating, as well as bookkeeping of documentary resources is one of the traditional functions of a modern library. Library book collections are of exceptional importance for the formation of the national cultural heritage of the state. The Book Exchange Fund (hereinafter – BEF) of the Scientific Library of the Odesa I. I. Mechnikov National University is a part of its Exchange and Reserve Fund. The department is intended for exchange, redistribution, free transfer of documents to libraries and other institutions. BEFs in libraries acquired a legal status in 1959 when a special resolution of the Soviet government was adopted. The documents began to be redistributed through an Exchange and Reserve Fund, which contributed to the preservation of non-core and duplicate editions in some libraries that could be in demand in other libraries. The mechanism for using documents that are in library exchange funds is defined by The procedure for using documents through exchange library funds. In 1947, a BEF for monographic literature was arranged while a BEF for periodicals was allocated. Nowadays the BEF consists mainly of duplicate editions of the University. These are publications highlighting the history of Odesa National University, the works of the teaching staff of the Humanities and Natural Sciences faculties, as well as publications prepared by the Scientific Library staff. The activities of the Department of Rare books are aimed at researching private collections of the Library. Special attention is paid to the research of Ukrainian books from the stackss of the Scientific Library. Employees of the Information and Bibliographic Department publish bibliographic indexes, both thematic and devoted to personalities. It is worth mentioning that the Scientific library exchanges specialized periodicals with partner libraries. The Library has 17 permanent book exchange partners, namely the higher educational institutions, research institutes, the National V. I. Vernadskyi Library of Ukraine. Since 2020 alone, the Library has received through book exchange 860 copies of books and periodicals and sent to its partner libraries 694 copies of current professional University periodicals. This method of periodicals distribution contributes to the popularization of the academic achievements of scientists of the Odesa I. I. Mechnikov National University in the professional community. The content of the BEF is disclosed with the help of a reference apparatus, that is card catalogues and non-annotated bibliographic lists of books and periodicals, posted on the website of the University Library in the section Exchange and Reserve Fund (Book Exchange Fund). The Book Exchange Fund is separated from the main stacks, it is not inventoried and is not used for reader service. The work with the Exchange and Reserve Fund of the Library is ongoing. The Book Acquisition Department is carrying out organization and distribution the documents which come to the BEF, improving the accounting of documents. The Department staff continues processing the reserve part of the Exchange and Reserve Fund selecting copies to replenish the main fund of the Library and removing physically worn copies.

The author determined the representative artwork circle devoted to Symon Petliura, as well as its authorship, characterized time and circumstances of their creation, defined the special features of Symon Petliura’s personality embodiment on portrait depictions by Ukrainian artists P. Kholodniy, V. Masiutyn, D. Potoroka, L. Perfetskiy, O. Liaturynska, I. Denysenko, as well as illustrators B. Tytla and P. Lopata. A comparative analysis of published portraits, along with defining their authorship, gives a possibility to determine their source-study and cultural value, characterize time and circumstances of their creation, as well as their importance for the processes of commemoration and the formation of historical memory about Symon Petliura. As a result of the research on portrait depictions of Symon Petliura that were published on the pages of the Ukrainian periodical press in the 1920s–1980s, these artworks are a valuable historical source for a supplement to the Chief Otaman’s cohesive image as a prominent state, civil and political activist in the period of the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917–1921. Portrait depictions of Symon Petliura have cultural, art, and source-study value; they play an important role in the processes of commemoration of memory about Chief Otaman as the national resistance leader in 1917–1921.

Abstract:
The article examines the problem of the transition to a new paradigm of media products’ value understanding of audiovisual periodicals in digital age. Relevance of the approach is challenged by the necessity to change the evaluative paradigm of modern aesthetics, which dominated for almost the entire twentieth century, to the criteria of postmodern and metamodern. The article emphasizes the professional competencies that can be positioned as “non-digitizable”, such as creativity and value orientation of creators. The article demonstrates the transformation of singularity and innovativeness of films to the “dramaturgy of seriality” due to TV and web documentaries, and further, to the dramaturgy of open search processes of metamodern. Methodologically, the change of scientific “optics” is proved in the course of revision of traditional screen dramaturgy replaced by the new approaches to the value status of transmedia audiovisual broadcasting. A generative format model is presented as the general-purpose mechanism of the TV and video shows dramatic structure. The value approach changes the methodological discourses of evaluating broadcasting media: from text-centric to polycode, from author’s subordination to viewer’s priority, from the content analysis to the dynamics of show structures. The results of the study move forward the development of professional competencies in media value chain and can be used for the training and retraining of specialists.
