Full textFör att en e-utbildning skall utgöra en god inlärningsmiljö krävs, förutom en väl anpassad pedagogik, även en hög grad av användbarhet. Ett system där användarna ofta tvingas flytta uppmärksamheten från innehållet, för att istället rikta den mot att försöka förstå systemet, påverkar inlärningsprocessen negativt.
Syftet med detta arbete var tvådelat. Som ett första led avsågs att utvärdera en befintlig e-utbildning, EKGtolkning.com, för att undersöka hur dess utformning stämde överens med de pedagogiska krav som ett datorbaserat läromedel bör leva upp till. Ett användartest genomfördes, varvid vissa användbarhetsproblem påvisades. Dessa problem kan i sin tur få konsekvenser för inlärningseffekten, något som diskuteras i uppsatsen.
Som ett andra led gjordes en omdesign av EKGtolkning.com i syfte att komma runt de påträffade användbarhetsproblemen och höja det pedagogiska värdet. De nya lösningar som togs fram utgjordes dels av en lo-fi-prototyp och dels av en hi- fi-prototyp, vilka båda utvärderades med hjälp av användare. Resultatet visade på en ökad grad av användbarhet, något som gynnade såväl inlärningseffekt som motivation.

The aim of this study was to ascertain whether there was any interest among dental hygienists, raising their level of competence throught attending additional courses or gaining further qualifications. The study was carried out by sending out two-hundred questionarires to randomly chosen dental hygienists. After one remainder come the answer frequency up to 66%. The study shows that many of the dental hygienists are interested to study at college. Many wanted raising level of comtpetence by education, wich also the study shows. The diversity of subjectfields mentioned was large, largest meaning has parodontology, caries/diagnostic, psykology and pedagogic. The conclusion of the study was that majority of dental hygienists continally raising their level of competence.

Full textThe state of health in Sweden demonstrates a high average length of life at the same time as diseases, due to luxurious living, grew into more and more widespread public health problems. Finding out that information is not enough to get man to live healthy has been conducive to a pedagogic based health education. An illustration of such an education is Public health pedagogy at the University of Kristianstad. The question is, does this education correspond to the new claims that society lays to health work? Our purpose was to throw light upon how individuals, qualified as public health pedagogues, look upon their work on one hand and how different clusters of thought from their study programme are conceived as activated in their professional exercise on the other. Our method was qualitative and we employed semistructured interviews with eleven ex-healthstudents. Our results demonstrate the idea of the health pedagogue as an all-embracing co-ordinator with a vision of saving the world. Our study also disclose that concepts from the study programme, such as salutogenic, holistic, participation, health promoting and pedagogic competence, were employed in the speech of the pedagogues. A question of great interest to us is whether this state of affairs indicates more than just knowledge acquired at school. We consider it very important that the educational programme appears to be relevant to the intended labour-market and we wish our results to be used in developing the study programme as well as health promoting areas.

Full textAsthma is the most common chronic illness in children. Re-admissions to hospital are common and asthma has a significant impact on children and their families. The purpose of this study was to describe the outcome of the nurses’ information and education handed to the family. The result of this literature study was based on 14 scientific articles which evaluated the families’ knowledge and the illness’ impact on daily life after different ways of asthma information and education. The result of this study showed that self-management education and repeated information reduced emergency department visits, hospitalizations and costs related to pediatric asthma care. Information and education helped the family to feel secure enough to handle the disease at home, which led the family towards a more stable and predictable lifestyle.

Full textNurse education at Swedish universities includes both theoretical studies and clinical training, divided into six semesters. The traditional set-up of Swedish education is that one person, a teacher or a supervisor, has the knowledge about a subject, and that the students should ask questions to gain part of this knowledge. This tradition also exists in vocational educations, like the nurse education, even though this means a lot of responsibility both for the student and the supervisor. Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify how nursing students of the fourth semester perceived the support they received from their supervisors (clinical nurses) during the clinical training placements during this semester. In addition there were asked for which characteristics students believed a good supervisor should have. Method: The study had a quantitative approach, with a cross-sectional perspective. The questionnaire was handed out to all attending students (73) of the fourth semester at a university in southern Sweden. The material was manually analyzed with the support of Excel. Results: The result showed variations depending on the questions and the clinical training placements, but all the questions revolved around the support from the supervisors. Most students graded 3 or higher in most of the questions, no matter which clinical training placement they had been to. The characteristic most in demand was sensitivity for the students’ needs. The conclusion was that students generally are satisfied with the support they receive from the supervisors during clinical training placements.

Full textBackground: Since the resources of todays’ health care service are not enough to answer to the health care requests of the growing/evolving population, the question about what care the patients can perform themselves is raised. In person-centred care the patients are, among other things, offered information and education needed to be able to make well-grounded decisions and to be responsible for their own care.Aim: To identify whether there was scientific support for how patients experiences, comprehends and perceives, information or education provided by health care professionals about wound care, and the effects of the information/education on the patients ability to self-care and their sense of independence in the daily life.Method: A systematic review was conducted of four databases, PubMed, Cinahl, Eric and ERC. After relevance and quality audit, totally eight studies where chosen to be included in the final synthesis. Results: Conclusions could be drawn that there was a scientific support for that the information or education provided by health care personnel had impact on the patients’ ability to perform self-care. In all studies their where findings of that lowered ability to perform self-care was concordant to lacking and insufficient information. The deficiency in information also caused emotions like worry/anxious/fear and had impact on the feeling of independence in daily life. However, there were no findings of scientific support of how the patients coped with their feelings related to the information/education and to self-care.

Full textAim: The aim of this literature review is to systematically analyze scientific evidence of the effect of education on the use of nursing diagnosis with nurses and nursing students.Background: Nursing diagnosis is a part of the nursing process, which is a tool for guidance of nursing documentation in a systematic way, with the goal of obtaining good nursing. Lack of usage is showed in previous research which also indicate lack of knowledge and lack of time as possible causes.Method: 10 articles were included after systematic database searches in CINAHL, Cochrane Library, PubMed and PsycINFO. The articles have been reviewed for quality and a manifest content analysis has been completed.Result: Education in different formation generates a positive effect on the use of nursing diagnosis. The themes that arose were: The quality of nursing diagnosis; The quantity of nursing diagnosis; The effect on the nursing process; and Personal factors.Conclusion: Education leads to better quality and a greater use of nursing diagnosis. Remaining steps of the nursing process will be positively influenced as well as the attitude towards nursing diagnosis.

Full textBackground: Urinary incontinence is considered a public disease in today's Sweden. The highest percentage of affected people are elderly living in nursing homes. Everyone with incontinence is entitled to an investigation, treatment and, if needed, an individual testing of incontinence aids. Studies show, however, that older people are usually offered simpler investigations and treatments, as well as incontinence aids that are not adapted to individual needs. Incorrect incontinence aids can lead to suffering for the person. To a large extent, perceived misuse is due to lack of knowledge of urinary incontinence. Aims: The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of education in urinary incontinence on the work with urinary incontinence aids. Method: An intervention consisting of two lectures on incontinence and incontinence aids for all nursing staff in a single department in a nursing home. A department of another nursing home constitutes control group and receives no education. Both groups will then make an individual trial of incontinence aids to the people who live in the department and have incontinence. Measurement before and after the individual test is compared Result: The results show that education for nursing staff can produce effects such as low-absorption incontinence aids compared with the control group. The biggest difference was read by the intervention group during the night time Conclusions: Despite weaknesses as a small selection, the study as a pilot study can show a result that can be interpreted positively. The result can be interpreted as the fact that education for nursing staff before an individual testing of incontinence aids contributes to a more customized testing.

Full textBackground: It is previously known that musculoskeletal disorders are common within the military population. Research has shown that almost 80 % of the marines within the Swedish Armed Forces experience some kind of musculoskeletal pain during a period of 6 months. However, mapping of the occurrence of knee pain during the Swedish Armed Forces marine training course “grundkurs amfibie” (GK Amf), where soldiers with basic training receive their marine specific training, was previously missing. This knowledge is important regarding prevention, future research and from a socio-economic perspective. Aim: The aim of this study was to map the occurrence of self-reported knee pain during the Swedish Armed Forces four-month long GK Amf. Method: This study was based on a quantitative prospective observational study of cohort design. 53 recruits participating in the 16-week GK Amf at the Amphibious regiment located in Berga were included in the study. Selfassessment questionnaires were used both at baseline and at weekly follow-ups to investigate the occurrence of knee pain. Results: The total prevalence of perceived knee pain during the GK Amf was 81 % and the median was 28 %. 42 of the total 53 recruits at risk of pain experienced at least one episode of pain, which made the total incidence of knee pain during the GK Amf 79 %. Conclusion: This study demonstrated that the occurrence of self-reported knee pain was very high during the GK Amf. Based on these findings, it is relevant to study prevention and risk factors for knee pain within this population in the future.

Malmö University: Faculty of Health and Society, Department of Care Science, 2018.Background: Parents with high-risk children who are offered preventive parental education in Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for children before departure from hospitals experience increased security and result in increased safety for the sick children in the home. There was no knowledge whether nurses at children's clinics in Sweden had experience in offering this parent group training in CPR for children or, if so, how it was conducted. Aim: The aim of the study was to investigate nurses´ experiences of educating parents with high-risk children in CPR for children, during hospitalization.Methods: A qualitative study incorporating semi-structured interviews was performed, with a total of eleven nurses from the major children’s clinics in Sweden. The interview material was analyzed through inductive content analysis according to Burnard.Results: The theme that emerged was: Nurses have a key role in parental education, and following categories were: Nurse's educational functions, Parents and relatives´ educational needs, Educational strategies, Results and consequences of education. Parents to high-risk children are not always adequately taught pre-departure, they demonstrate of stress over not being able to cope with emergency situations. Parents was felt safer when they received information and knowledge. The educational program of CPR for children that exist were perceived as insufficient as it does not cover the need for parental education to high-risk children. Conclusion: A standardized preventive parental training in CPR for children is lacking, with the individual needs that high-risk children may have. Responsibilities are unclear on who takes the decision on parental education and who will be offered, the nurses have a key role in parental education but have a weak mandate to carry out teaching when support from recommendation was lacking.Keywords: Cardiopulmonary-resuscitation, high-risk child, nurse-experience, parents-education.

Full textNurses’ knowledge of health education can always be improved. A method to conduct health education can be the use of motivational interviewing (MI). The purpose of this study was to describe nurses’ experiences’ of the motivational interviewing during patient counseling. 13 articles were reviewed, quality controlled and used in the result, which formed four categories. The result showed that health is an important part in nurses' communication with patients and covers a large part of the nursing care. It appeared, however, that knowledge and education to some extent were lacking, to in a good way keep a patient counseling. MI is proved to be a good method to carry out health advice and was able to increase nurses' educational insight. Individualized information and open-ended questions facilitated the patient's reflection on their behavior. It appeared to be difficult for the nurse to resist the feeling to assume full responsibility for patient behavior change but could by MI-training be improved. Lack of time was something that made it difficult for nurses when they would use MI. The perceived lack of time also affected the adherence and continuity, which was significant in behavioral change. Many nurses felt that the MI was something all health professionals might have use for. In-depth training, school and business, is desirable in order to improve the communication skills of nurses.

Full textBackground: This report explored the vision of a “receptarie”, a three-year long pharmacist bachelor’s degree in Sweden. Today, not much work is done to develop and define the profession of a “receptarie”. Different actors might have different understandings on what a “receptarie” should do in their work. Aim: To study how the new target set by Apotekarsocieteten is perceived by the relevant educations and in responsibilities and work tasks in pharmacies, aswell as what changes is needed to be performed according to the ones in a position to influence. Method: The study involved four “receptarie”-educations, located in Göteborg, Malmö. Umeå and Uppsala. A survey was performed, questioning the different educations, apothecary's and relevant organisations about their view of what a “receptarie”s goal is compared to a target published by Apotekarsocieteten. Result: In broad, the participants in the survey agreed with the publishing from Apotekarsocieteten and many participants expressed a will to further contribute to reaching the set goals. The opinions of other actors’ contributions were negative. The apothecaries were seen as the least contributing actors. Discussion: The biggest deviance, was the perception of the contribution of apothecaries, where they themselves belived they contributed well, but other occupations did not. Many participants expressed the desire to increase the focus of counseling and patient communication. Conclusion: Apotekarsocietetens target harmonized well with the participants. The participants had a positive view and had many suggestions for improvements. The main result was the perceived difference in contribution from the apothecaries.

Full textBackground: Palliative care concerns the soothing and supporting care given to patients when curative care is no longer effective. Communication between nurse and patient is one of the four cornerstones in palliative care, and form a significant part of the nursing care given to these patients. This kind of communication can involve breaking bad news, emotional and existential questions as well as tragic truths. Purpose: Investigating how nursing students and registered nurses may be educated for communication with patients receiving palliative care. Method: A partial systematic literature review. Literature was searched in two databases. The articles forming the base for the result were reviewed, evaluated and summarized into a matrix. Result: Teaching methods for nursing students and registered nurses in communication with patients receiving palliative care are presented as five main themes; narrative teaching, activating teaching, patient-centered teaching, electronic teaching and teaching by feedback. With these main themes come 12 underlying sub-themes.Conclusion: This literature review establishes needs for further knowledge in communication with patients receiving palliative care, amongst both nursing students and registered nurses. These gaps of knowledge may be filled by various teaching methods.

Full textIntroduction: Parental involvement is becoming increasingly common in the paediatric health care. Parental participation at home means that parents receive instruction by nursing staff in order to perform a caregiving procedure at home.
Aim: To explore parents' feelings about performing caregiving procedures on their child at home, and their experience of instruction about these, and to explore nurses’ experiences of their instruction to parents.
Method: A descriptive quantitative and qualitative design using questionnaires with statements to be responded by nurses and parents according to scales graded 1-10. The study was carried out during the autumn of 2009 at a pediatric unit in the University Hospital in Uppsala.
Results: Ten completed questionnaires from the nursing staff and ten from parents were obtained. The mean assessment of parents' perceived safety and security, and their perception that their questions had been answered ranged between 8,6 and 9,2. The nurses assessed parents’ comprehension of the information and feeling of security as means from 9,1 to 9,7. The parents felt confident at discharge with the nursing activities to be performed at home, with a few exceptions.
Conclusion: Both the nurses and the parents were overall satisfied with the instruction.
Introduktion: Föräldramedverkan blir mer och mer vanligt i den pediatriska vården. Föräldramedverkan inför hemgång innebär att föräldrarna får information och utbildning av vårdpersonalen för att sedan utföra vård i hemmet.
Syfte: Att undersöka föräldrars känslor inför att utföra vårdåtgärder på sitt barn i hemmet samt deras upplevelse av utbildning, samt att undersöka sjuksköterskors upplevelser av sin utbildning till föräldrarna inför hemgång.
Metod: Deskriptiv kvantitativ och kvalitativ design baserad på enkäter som besvarades av föräldrar och sjuksköterskor. Enkäten bestod mestadels av värderingsskalor. Studien genomfördes hösten 2009 på en barnavdelning vid Akademiska sjukhuset i Uppsala.
Resultat: Tio besvarade enkäter erhölls från sjuksköterskor och tio från föräldrar. Medelvärdet på föräldrarnas skattning av sin upplevda trygghet och säkerhet samt om de fått svar på sina frågor var mellan 8,6-9,2 (1-10). Sjuksköterskornas skattning om föräldrarnas trygghet och hur väl de uppfattade informationen var mellan 9,1-9,7 (1-10). Föräldrarna var generellt trygga och säkra inför hemgång med en vårdåtgärd att utföra bortsett från något enstaka fall.
Slutsats: Sjuksköterskorna och föräldrarna var överlag nöjda med utbildningen.

Full textSom ett led i att främja hälsa och en sund livsstil har Studenthälsan på Malmö Högskola tidigare erbjudit sina studenter föreläsningar i allmän näringslära, men vill nu prova en ny inriktning mot vegansk näringslära. Genom ett processinriktat projekt, beståendes av flera delprocesser, planerades en utbildningsserie innehållandes en föreläsning och två praktiska matlagningstillfällen. Dessa genomfördes varefter de utvärderades av de 20 deltagarna som deltog i utbildningen, detta med en semikvalitativ enkät efter föreläsningen och genom en halvstrukturerad intervju efter det ena matlagningstillfället. Responsen på utbildningsseriens utformning var positiv, förslag på flera delar av både föreläsningar och matlagningstillfällen önskades med teman som träningslära, billigt, nyttigt, veganskt och vegetariskt. Materialet kan användas i utbildningssyfte i liknande sammanhang.

Malmö University: Health and Society, Department of Nursing, 2008.In Sweden there are over 700 000 persons suffering from COPD. This disease has often a long-term course with extensive influence on daily life. The aim of this literature review was to study self-care education in out-patients with COPD and the effects of the education on their daily life.The method used was a systematic literature examination reviewing pertinent research in the area. Orem’s theory about self-care was used as theoretical frame. Articles dealing with self-care education were evaluated regarding scientific quality. Ten randomized controlled trials were finally included. The results showed that education based on a self-care program combined with action-planning and training sessions, was the intervention that had the best effects. A decrease in visits to emergency rooms, hospital admissions and days in the hospital could be demonstrated as a result of the self-care education. The results also showed an insignificant trend towards increases in quality of life. The intervention had no effect on lung function, physical functioning, symptom experiences or number of exacerbations. Patient centred teaching about refraining from smoking doubled the number of individuals who stopped smoking, while counselling about quitting to smoke did not have any effect. Education constructed after the cognitive theory of Bandura, had effects on the self-efficacy to perform self-care. This study has shown that education about self-care is an area that needs more research.Key words: actionplan, Bandura, COPD, Orem, patient-education, self-care, self-efficacy, self-management, smoking-cessation.

Full textThe purpose with this study was to investigate if there is, or if it is considered to be a gap between theory and practice in nursing education. The questions asked by the authors were: 1. What could be the reason for the possible gap between theory and practice in nursing education? 2. With which tools can the students try to link the possible gap between theory and practice? To answer this, the authors elected to do a review of ten scientific articles, these articles where critical reviewed according to Polit et al (2001). During the review of the articles the authors categorised the results into topics, with the same headings as the questions. A conclusive answer concerning if there is a gap or not, or how this gap should be bridged could not be determined. But tutoring and reflection, both individual and in group, was viewed as good tools to combine theory and practice.

Full textAim: The purpose of this study was to determine which experiences and perceptions health professional have of working with lgbt-issues. Background: In Sweden we have come a long way with the observance of equality and anti-discrimination work, but there are studies showing that there are people among the lgbt-community still feel mistreated and violated in health care. Therefore, the authors of this study feel that it is important to shed light on this problem. Method: A qualitative method with interviews was chosen and was conducted in two primary healthcare centers. The centers had different experiences of working with lgbt-issues. Both centers are located in the same medium-sized town in Sweden. All respondents were over 18 years old and had at least ten years of work experience in the health care profession. Qualitative content analysis was used to analyze the collected material. Results: The analysis resulted in four categories: development, equal rights, normativity and culture at the workplace. It was showed that the center with longer experience had an open and allowed climate in their workplace. This made it possible for the staff to create a safe place for both their patients and their colleagues. The informants also highlighted that it is important to have a non-heteronormative attitude and a neutral language. The staff that had undergone lgbt-certification perceived that the need and desire for more knowledge existed and the need of a follow-up of the certification was needed. During the interviews several informants talked about fear of saying the wrong thing or making a fool of themselves. Conclusion: To strive to work with a neutral language and a non-heteronormative attitude is important. It is also essential to have a permissive and open environment in the workplace, both for patients and staff's sake. In 2010 just over 11000 people were treated in hospital due to complications caused by their drug use, these numbers have doubled since 1990. These statistics show that nurses will have more and more interactions with this patient group. Previous research shows that the patient group is considered problematic and that there are inadequacies in the nurse patient relationship. One reason for these inadequacies is said to be nurses´ lack of knowledge on problems around drug abuse. Aim: The aim of this study is to highlight nurses´ experiences of interacting with patients with an illicit drug use on a somatic ward. Method: Semi structured interviews were conducted with seven nurses on a somatic ward in a hospital in southern Sweden. The interview material was analysed using Burnard´s method of analysis. Result: According to the participants the patient group is demanding and an adapted approach is needed. Preconceptions about the patient group among staff can lead to inadequacies in the nurse patient relationship. Difficulties in pharmaceutical treatment were reported to cause problems. The nurses´ experience and knowledge were shown to be the most important tools in the nurse patient relationship.

Full textBackground: The number of individuals over the age of 65 have increased, which leads to a crucial need for support of individuals with physical and mental illness. By having good knowledge in health and nursing among caregivers, better conditions are created to give the patient a good oral hygiene and prevent oral and other general diseases Aim: To study knowledge among caregivers regarding oral health in the care of the elderly and how external oral health education is perceived Method: A quantitative cross-sectional study with questionnaires that was answered by caregivers at six elderly homes in Kalmar County Results: 19% in total of the respondents showed a low level of knowledge regarding the patient's oral health, 53% showed medium-level knowledge, 28% showed high knowledge. A significant difference could not be ensured regarding the knowledge of oral health and oral care needs for elderly's between educated staff and non educated caregivers. It showed that a large part of caregivingers found it difficult to practically perform a good oral care on their patients Conclusion: The study showed that a majority of caregivers at the elderly homes in the study had a medium- high level of knowledge regarding oral health. The introduction of practical exercises associated with the dental care external oral health education can create better conditions for the purpose of improving the patient´s oral and general health.

Previousresearch describes that teambuilding and communication between differentprofessions lead to a more optimal collaboration in teams, which enhanced patientsafety. Aim: Describe nurses’ experiences of collaborating in teams. Methods: Aqualitative semi-structured interview study was conducted. The collected materialwas processed with Graneheim and Lundman, (2004) manifest content analysis.Results: Nurses experienced in working in teams, was a great way to work withthe patient. Where all professions sought a common goal. The goal was to give thepatient the best possible care. Communication in collaboration in teamsconsidered raising patient safety, and lack of time were considered to be drainingto the communication within the team. Which led to deceased patient safety.Conclusion: Education in collaboration in teams such as teambuilding andcommunication is something that is considered to strengthen optimalcollaboration between the different professions. Training for members ofmanagement is to be recommended, when all forms of education must beapproved and implemented at the managerial level.

Full textPain management of cancer patients is a complex and multifaceted area since cancer does not only affect the body but also the soul. In order for the nurse to be able to ease the patients’ pain as efficiently as possible, eventual barriers must be removed by using pedagogy. Ten scientific articles have been used for this review to be able to map some of the barriers a nurse might come across in his/her teaching-role in cancer pain management, as well as in what way these barriers can be removed. The result showed that, in order for the nurse to function as a teacher in the caretaking of patients he/she must possess good basic knowledge as well as the ability to acknowledge the patients need for knowledge. The result also showed the importance of patient’s knowledge regarding pharmacological cancer pain management.

Full textIntimt partnervåld (IPV) är något som drabbar både män och kvinnor, i homosexuella så väl som heterosexuella relationer. Den form av IPV som det talas mest om är våld mot kvinnor. Propositionen kvinnofrid antogs av regeringen 1998 och föreslog en omfattande satsning på att öka kunskaperna hos olika yrkesgrupper som handlägger eller på annat sätt kommer i kontakt med ärenden som rör våld mot kvinnor. Det övergripande syftet med denna studie är att undersöka sjuksköterskors attityder och kunskaper om våld i en intim relation. Endast 41 av 136 utdelade enkäter besvarades. Resultaten antyder att sjuksköterskor inte har tillräckliga kunskaper om vare sig omfattningen av det intima våldets skadeverkningar, eller omhändertagande av utsatta individer. Sjuksköterskeutbildningen bör omfatta obligatorisk undervisning om denna patientgrupp och om våldets bakomliggande faktorer.
