Abstract Philip Clart addresses spirit-mediumship as a contested cultural field in Chinese popular religion. Drawing on his own field research, primary texts such as morality books, and studies of spirit-mediumship across the Chinese cultural sphere, he demonstrates the existence of different and sometimes competing interpretations of mediumship. In particular, he describes the views held among Taiwanese spirit-writing cults (“phoenix halls”), where mediumship is governed by the rules of a moral universe. In the present study, the effects of different types of sugars and cultivation medium pH levels on the micropropagation of Krymsk 5® cherry rootstock were investigated. During the proliferation stage, the effects of four sugars (sucrose, fructose, glucose, and sorbitol) both separately and in two combinations were studied, along with the effects of pre-adjusted pH (4.5, 5.0, 5.2, 5.5, 5.8, 6.0, 6.2, or 6.5) on shoot proliferation parameters, growth medium’s post-autoclaving and post-cultivation pH, and their relations. Similarly, during the rooting stage, the effects of four sugars (sucrose, g

To develop a technological regimen of production of microbiopreparation in a preparative form ‘wettable powder’ (WP) we studied biological features and conditions of surface cultivation of the strainproducer 11-3 Bacillus sp. – an antagonist of fusariosis pathogen infecting oil flax. Cultural qualities of the strain-producer were studied in three agarized mediums. The optimal conditions for cultivation of the strain-producer on liquid nutrient mediums are estimated: temperature – 30–35 оС, рН – 8–10. As a source of carbon nutrition, glycerin and molasses can be used. Yeastrel and corn-steep co

The liquid confinement medium (LCM) and the free confinement medium (FCM) made by ourselves were used as confinement overlays of laser shock processing (LSP) respectively, stainless steel 304 was shocked by Nd:Glass laser. The parameters of LSP are the wavelength of 1.06μm, the pulse duration of 20ns, and output energy of 35~40J. The laser was focused on a spot of Ф5mm. Firstly, the profiles of shocked regions of samples were measured by Taylor Hobson admeasuring apparatus, in which two different confinement mediums are used by LSP. Secondly, the ruinous behavior of the free confinement overla

It is found that a term normally discarded in the standard treatment of the MSW effect might be relevant in the case of non-adiabatic varying matter density, leading to a second order field equation, instead of the usual first order "Schrodinger equation". This leads to dispersion relation that gives rise to the possibility of neutrino trapping in a dense medium as well as the coupling of neutrino oscillation to neutral current interaction. This is found to be in agreement with previous results1. The corresponding conserved probability current is derived for this second order equation, and app

In electrical discharge machining (EDM), the working medium plays an important role in the material removal process. Lots of methods have been utilized to study this process, but a widely accepted explanation about this process has not been yet accomplished. In this study, the acoustic emission (AE) sensor was fixed on EDM machine to study the material removal process by observing the expansion and contraction process of gas bubble surrounding the discharge plasma. The machining performance in different working mediums was studied for Ti-6Al-4V machining in air, kerosene, and water-based emuls

A multilayer medium consists of compacted soil, gravel and concrete layers. The damage law of multilayer mediums subjected to blast loading is investigated numerically at various charge weights ranging from 1 to 10kg and burying depths ranging from 0 to 150cm. The numerical results indicate that, in order to increase the energy utilization rate of explosives, charges less than 5kg should be placed in the gravel layer to explode, while those more than 5kg placed in the compacted soil layer. By use of dimensional analysis, the formula for damage effect of multilayer mediums subjected to blast lo
