Abstract:

Persson, Osowski Christine. "The Swedish School Meal as a Public Meal : Collective Thinking, Actions and Meal Patterns." Doctoral thesis, Uppsala universitet, Institutionen för kostvetenskap, 2012. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:uu:diva-178161.

Full text
Abstract:
The aim of this thesis is to study what role the Swedish school meal has as a public meal in Swedish culture. An additional aim is to study the meal patterns of children, including the school meal. An ethnological questionnaire with 192 informants was used to study people’s perceptions and memories of the school meal. The school meal was seen as part of the Swedish welfare state, but also as a second-class meal, which did not live up to the ideal, which was a meal with the same values as a meal served at home. Observations in school canteens (25 hours), interviews with the school meal staff (six informants) and focus group interviews with children in grade 4-5 (seven groups with a total of 52 children) were carried out at three schools in central Sweden. Firstly, the data was analysed as to how the teachers interacted with the children in relation to the pedagogic meal. The teachers took on three different roles:  “the sociable teacher role”, “the educating teacher role” and “the evasive teacher role”. Secondly, the children’s understanding of food and meals in the school meal context was analysed. The results showed that the children used ideas from the adult world among their peers in the school meal situation. This included the implementation of institutional commensality, the telling of stories about food and the classification of foods in dichotomies. A questionnaire covering the meal patterns of the children and intake of some snack foods was also distributed to the children attending grade 4-5 at the three schools and their parents. Matched pairs (n=147) were analysed for agreement. Most children had a regular meal pattern, and there was general agreement between child and parent reports, except for sweets and chocolate. The expectations on the school meal are high. At the same time, there appears to be a social construction depicting the school meal in a negative way. In order to come to terms with the negative public view of the school meal, the social construction of the school meal needs to be addressed.

Mauro, Jacopo <1984&gt. "Constraints meet concurrency." Doctoral thesis, Alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna, 2012. http://amsdottorato.unibo.it/4341/.

Full text
Abstract:
We investigate the benefits that emerge when the fields of constraint programming and concurrency meet. On one hand, constraints can be use in concurrency theory to increase the conciseness and the expressive power of concurrent languages from a pragmatic point of view. On the other hand, problems modeled by using constraints can be solved faster and more efficiently using a concurrent system. We explore both directions providing two separate lines of contribution. Firstly we study the expressive power of a concurrent language, namely Constraint Handling Rules, that supports constraints as a primitive construct. We show what features of this language make it Turing powerful. Then we propose a framework to solve constraint problems that is intended to be deployed on a concurrent system. For the development of this framework we used the concurrent language Jolie following the Service Oriented paradigm. Based on this experience, we also propose an extension to Service Oriented Languages to overcome some of their limitations and to improve the development of concurrent applications.

Abstract:

Full text
Abstract:

Abstract:

This essay consider ritual death during the ironage, and through a presentation of historical and archaeological sources. Considered ritual death I think we should study both historical and archaeological sources, to get a vider view and a new perspective. To make the essay easier to understand I have split up the early and the late Iron Age in the discussion. In order to study the ritual death I have shown archaeological examples like bogsacrifices in the early ironage, and decapitated victims in the Viking society. The victims have been considered as slaves by some archaeologist. An example of this is the grave in Bollstanäs, Uppland, when archaeologist found a cremated male with personal equipment. They also found two beheaded males. Ove Hemmendorff imply that they were slaves, buried as gravegoods, and he based this opinion of drawing parallels with other similar graves, and to literary sources like Ibn Fadlans story.

Abstract:
AbstractGiven an unsatisfiable Boolean formula F in CNF, an unsatisfiable subset of clauses U of F is called Minimal Unsatisfiable Subset (MUS) if every proper subset of U is satisfiable. Since MUSes serve as explanations for the unsatisfiability of F, MUSes find applications in a wide variety of domains. The availability of efficient SAT solvers has aided the development of scalable techniques for finding and enumerating MUSes in the past two decades. Building on the recent developments in the design of scalable model counting techniques for SAT, Bendík and Meel initiated the study of MUS counting techniques. They succeeded in designing the first approximate MUS counter, $$\mathsf {AMUSIC}$$ AMUSIC , that does not rely on exhaustive MUS enumeration. $$\mathsf {AMUSIC}$$ AMUSIC , however, suffers from two shortcomings: the lack of exact estimates and limited scalability due to its reliance on 3-QBF solvers. In this work, we address the two shortcomings of $$\mathsf {AMUSIC}$$ AMUSIC by designing the first exact MUS counter, $$\mathsf {CountMUST}$$ CountMUST , that does not rely on exhaustive enumeration. $$\mathsf {CountMUST}$$ CountMUST circumvents the need for 3-QBF solvers by reducing the problem of MUS counting to projected model counting. While projected model counting is #NP-hard, the past few years have witnessed the development of scalable projected model counters. An extensive empirical evaluation demonstrates that $$\mathsf {CountMUST}$$ CountMUST successfully returns MUS count for 1500 instances while $$\mathsf {AMUSIC}$$ AMUSIC and enumeration-based techniques could only handle up to 833 instances.
