The Northern Outreach Program is a joint project of the University of Western Ontario and the Ontario Ministry of Health. This program strives to develop health care services in northern Ontario. One aspect of this program is directed specifically towards the development of occupational therapy services. This paper provides a description of the structure of the Northern Outreach program, program objectives and approaches towards meeting the objectives. In Sweden, it is prohibited to discriminate because of transgender identity or expression. However, research shows that transgender people often face discrimination in society including the health care sector. The aim of this work is to increase the understanding of the transgender experience in the meeting with caregivers. This paper examines gender among other factors that may constrain older persons in Southeast Asia from meeting their health-care needs when sick based on data from Cambodia, the Philippines and Viet Nam. It finds that while women in Cambodia and the Philippines are more likely to seek treatment than men, the gender difference is reversed in Viet Nam where stigma associated with some diseases may more strongly deter women than men.
