Zvi Ben-Dor Benite has contributed an important piece to the history ofMuslims in imperial China, centered on a seventeenth-century Muslimgenealogy known as the Jing Xue Xi Chuan Pu (hereinafter Genealogy),which has been recently discovered, punctuated, and printed as the Jing XueXi Chuan Pu (Xining: Qinghai Renmin Chubanshe, 1989). His book followsSachiko Murata’s study of Confucian Muslim texts and teachers (namely,Chinese Gleams of Sufi Light: Wang Tai-Yu’s Great Learning of Pure andReal and Liu Chih’s Displaying the Concealment of the Real Realm [Albany,NY: State University of New York, 2000]) and illuminates many aspects ofthe Muslims’ cultural life in imperial China.The book consists of an introduction, four chapters, and a conclusionwith tables and illustrations. The first chapter decodes the Genealogy andoutlines the trajectory of the Chinese Muslims’ educational network in centraland coastal China. The second chapter explores the “social logic”behind the practices of the Muslim literati (p. 74) – that is, how they envisionedand understood the educational system, their roles, and Islam in referenceto imperial China’s existing sociocultural categories. This chapterreveals how Muslim educational institutions enabled and empoweredMuslim intellectuals to convert “Islam” and “Muslim” into valid social categoriesof school (xuepai) and to envision themselves as “literati” (shi) thatwere as much Chinese as Muslim.The third chapter analyzes the transformation of Islamic knowledge from“orality” to “texuality” (p. 158) and the formation of the Chinese Islamicschool, which was patterned on contemporary Chinese schools of scholarship.The fourth chapter explains how Confucian Muslims interpreted Islam,Prophet Muhammad, and Islamic canons as equivalents and counterparts ofConfucianism (enumerated in the Han Kitab as “Dao,” “Sage,” and “Classic”),and how the Muslim literati embraced Confucianism. Abstract:
Reformasi Empat Mei 1919 membuat wacana kesetaraan gender dan nilai-nilai Barat menjadi sangat populer dalam dunia sastra Cina. Sebagai salah tokoh utama dalam sastra Cina modern, Lu Xun aktif menyuarakan pandangannya tentang pemikiran Barat dan perempuan baru dalam berbagai tulisannya. Ia secara paradoks merespons isu perempuan baru dan modernisasi yang kemudian memunculkan pertanyaan bagaimana sebenarnya ideologi Lu Xun tentang perempuan dan bagaimana Lu Xun menyikapi kontestasi wacana tradisional dan modern pada periode Empat Mei. Makalah ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis ideologinya tentang perempuan Cina baru dan modernisme dengan menggunakan metode analisis wacana kritis Norman Fairclough, terutama dalam teks dan intertekstual. Perspektif tersebut dianalisis dari praktik tekstual dan praktik diskursif yang tampak pada cerpen “Persembahan Tahun Baru”, “Keluarga Bahagia”, “Menyesali Masa Lalu”, “Sabun”, dan sebuah esai “Nuola Zou Hou Zenmeyang”. Dari hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa Lu Xun bernegosiasi dengan nilai-nilai Barat dan nilai-nilai tradisional. Ia mentransformasi nilai-nilai Barat dan tradisionalisme Cina menjadi ideologi yang lebih sesuai dengan budaya Cina. Dengan menggunakan prinsip “Zhong Yong” (Jalan Tengah) dari Konfusianisme, ia membuat transformasi ini. Bagi Lu Xun, “jalan tengah” merupakan solusi untuk mengharmonisasi masyarakat dan mencapai emansipasi wanita.

Abstract:
For the foreigner students, Time aspects (usually can be referred as aspects) in Mandarin is a difficult grammar to be grasped. Indonesian student is no exception. There is only a little bit of similarities exist between Mandarin and Indonesian time aspects. For the example from the semantics point of view: Mandarin “le” and Indonesian “sudah” both of them can modify verbs to indicate an action that have been finished. Mandarin “zhe” and Indonesian “sedang” both of them also modify verbs indicating action that still happen. Mandarin “guo” and Indonesian “pernah” both of them also can modify verbs indicating action that had been happened, etc. Except these similarities, Mandarin and Indonesian time aspects have a lot of differences. For the example, in Mandarin time aspects are usually placed after the verbs, while in Indonesian time aspects placed before the verbs. Mandarin time aspects can only modify verb, while Indonesian can modify verb and adjective. For example, in Mandarin the action is already happened, it can’t use the adverb of frequency “chang-chang”. Eg “ta chang-chang shang xue chi dao le”. We can’t write it like this. But In Indonesian “sudah” can use adverb of frequency “sering” in sentences, eg : “dia sudah sering terlambat”. This sentences in Indonesian is correct. So, this paper will be analyzed the grammar of Mandarin aspect “le, zhe, guo” with Indonesian aspect “sudah, sedang, pernah”, compared both of them, and find the differences between both of them.
