Abstract:
W późniejszych tekstach Meier będzie używał metafory „die Sprache der Leidenschaften” (język emocji) w odniesieniu do twórczości poetyckiej i prozatorskiej.

Abstract:
This work introduces nonparametric models which are used in time to event data analysis. It is focused on applying these methods in medicine where it is called survival analysis. The basic techniques and problems, which can appear in survival analysis, are presented and explained here. The Kaplan -- Meier estimator of survival function is discussed in the main part. This is the most frequented method used for estimating the survival function in patients who have undergone a specific treatment. The Kaplan -- Meier estimator is also a common device in the statistical packets. In addition to estimation of survival function, the estimation of hazard function and cumulative hazard function is presented. The hazard function shows the intensity of an individual experiencing the particular event in a short time period. Special problems occur when analyzing time to event data. A distinctive feature, often present in such data, is known as censoring. That is the situation when the individual does not experience the event of interest at the time of study. The thesis covers also an empiric part, where the results of an analysis of patients with the larynx carcinoma diagnosis are shown. These patients were treated in a hospital located in České Budějovice. This analysis is based on a theory presented in the previous chapters.

Claass, Victor. "Julius Meier-Graefe contre l'impressionnisme." Thesis, Paris 4, 2017. http://www.theses.fr/2017PA040076.

Full text
Abstract:
Self-taught art critic and historian, but also publisher, gallery owner, curator, expert, broker and tireless field man, Julius Meier-Graefe (1867-1935) played a prominent role in the European art world of the early 20th century. Based on a close study of numerous archives and letters, as well as a careful rereading of his vast body of published work, this dissertation endeavours to retrace the life of a reckless facilitator, whose career is too often reduced to the role of “importer” of modern French art in Germany. If Meier-Graefe has been frequently identified through his progressive francophile positions and formalistic viewpoints on visual arts, a detailed analysis of his involvement in the art market and institutions—and more broadly, in the political/cultural debates of his time—reveals a richer personality. Wary of the identity concerns shared by conservative elites of the Empire, he vigorously encouraged a “positive” nationalism, hoping to adjust the course of a fragmented Germanic culture hostile to the values of modernity. Tracing the steps of a cosmopolitan German whose path was brutally affected by the outbreak of World War I, this essay examines the mechanisms of his ambitious project of cultural regeneration, involving both action and discourse. Jostled between phases of enthusiasm and deep disillusionment, Meier-Graefe emerges as the champion of an idealized modernism, whose avant-garde experiments he nevertheless severely condemned

Full text
Abstract:
A comparative study has been carried out between different models of implementing surface tension for PLIC-VOF methods: i) the well known Continuum Surface Force (CSF); ii) Staggered Grid Interface Pressure (SGIP); iii) Modified Meier’s. As main difference with respect the CSF model, the two last use information of the interface location for the calculation of the surface tension forces, therefore, they need a model of interface reconstruction. The models will be tested under static and dynamic conditions, for the case of a drop and bubble between water and air. In order to reduce the ‘parasitic’ currents that is characteristic of this type of models, two different strategies are used: i) a new method for the calculation of the interface curvature based on the use of polar coordinates; ii) the use of kernels for smoothing the jump of the colour function and the interface. Additionally, the influence of the order of accuracy of the reconstruction algorithms employed that affect the curvature estimation and the surface tension force calculation is also checked. After testing the different cases, it can be concluded that SGIP and modified Meier perform in a comparable way, and much better than CSF model without kernel, that is only competitive with the use of the kernels. However, modified Meier is preferred respect SGIP due to its straitghforward implementation on unstructured meshes.

Bryan, Chris, and Ehsaan Nasir. "Lessons Learned from Analyzing the Runlife Statistics of ESPs Using Kaplan Meier Analysis for North American Unconventional Plays." In SPE Gulf Coast Section Electric Submersible Pumps Symposium. SPE, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.2118/204497-ms.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract Evaluating Electrical Submersible Pumps (ESPs) [SS1] [NA2] run-lives and performance in unconventional well environments is challenging due to many different factors -including the reservoir, well design, and production fluids. Moreover, reviewing the run-lives of ESPs in a field can be rather complex since the run-life data is incomplete. Often ESPs are pulled while they are still operational, or the ESP has not been allowed to run until failure. These are some of the complications that arise when gauging ESP performance. A large dataset of ESP installs was assessed using Kaplan-Meier survival analysis for the North American unconventional application to better understand those factors that may affect ESP run lives. The factors were studied including but are not limited to the following: Basin and producing formation Comparing different ESP component types such pumps and motors, and new or used ESP components Completion intensity of the frac job (lb/ft of proppant) Kaplan-Meier survival analysis is one of the commonly used methods to measure the fraction or probability of group survival after certain time periods because it accounts for incomplete observations. Using Kaplan-Meier analysis generates a survival curve to show a declining fraction of surviving ESPs over time. Survival curves can be compared by segmenting the runlife data into buckets (based on different factors), therefore to analyze the statistical significance of each and how they affect ESP survivability. Kaplan-Meier analysis was performed on the aforementioned dataset to answer these questions in order to better understand the factors that affect ESP runlives in North American unconventional plays. This work uses a unique dataset that encompasses several different ESP designs, with the ESPs installed in different North American plays. The observations and conclusions drawn from it, by applying survival analysis, can help in benchmarking ESP runtimes and identifying what works in terms of prolonging ESP runlife. The workflow is also applicable to any asset in order to better understand the drivers behind ESP runlife performance.
