Abstract:
W późniejszych tekstach Meier będzie używał metafory „die Sprache der Leidenschaften” (język emocji) w odniesieniu do twórczości poetyckiej i prozatorskiej.

Abstract:

Abstract:
A peculiar feature of the philosophy of Georg Friedrich Meier (1718–1777) lies in its being based on rhetorical principles. We are in front of an important construct that claims for attention in the context of the growing literature on eighteenth-century rhetoric. The syntagm ‘rhetoricised logic’ indicates a specific function of rhetoric as the basis for rethinking philosophical discourse. The paper shows that Meier's philosophical programme is consistently based on the trivium. On top of this, the paper compares Meier and Immanuel Kant on the ancient topos of the artes liberales, thus making it clear that the position of Meier can be assessed as a model for a rhetorically founded theory of knowledge, which was transformed and overcome by Kant.

Abstract:
Heinrich Meier 's careful and illuminating study of the relation between Carl Schmitt and Leo Strauss should come as something of a revelation to many* Through a painstaking analysis of the three editions of Schmitt's influential Concept of the Political, Meier uncovers a heretofore largely overlooked “dialogue,” albeit one partly conducted “in absentia.”As Meier observes Schmitt is one of a relatively small number of contemporaries whose work Strauss publicly reviewed. The first edition of Schmitt's essay appeared in 1927; a second was published in 1932, and it is to this that Strauss's 1932 “Comments” is (openly) addressed. A second was published in 1932. A third edition, published in 1933, presents, on Meier's reading, Schmitt's implicit response. For a variety of reasons, not the least being Schmitt's increasing involvement with the National Socialists, Strauss's role as interlocutor went largely unacknowledged, it being “impossible,” as Strauss would later write, for Schmitt to admit his “dependence on a Jew” (p. 138).

Abstract:
AbstractThe use of criteria in historical Jesus research gives the enterprise an appearance of scientific objectivity that may be deceptive. A particular case in point is the use of multiple attestation to establish the near certainty that the historical Jesus was a healer and exorcist (as, for example, J.P. Meier argues). Logically, there is little reason why multiple attestation alone should indicate historical reliability, and there may not be as many useful independent sources for Jesus’ miracles as Meier supposes. Jesus may well have been a healer and exorcist, but if so, this needs to be established on other grounds.

Abstract:
Leo Strauss and the Theologico-Political Problem, Heinrich Meier, New York: Cambridge University Press, 2006, pp. xxii, 183.One of the debates accompanying the reception of Leo Strauss's lifework as it grows into an inescapable force in political philosophy has been this: Where does Strauss really stand on the relation between reason and revelation? Heinrich Meier's new book ends that debate.
