Congenital heart defects (CHDs) occur in 5% of births. While gene mutations have been identified in CHD patients, not much is known about coordinated signaling mechanisms during heart morphogenesis. Endocardial cushions of the atrioventricular canal and outflow tract contribute to the formation of valves and septa in the heart. För att få en djupare förståelse för hur singlarna tänker om singelresor har vi använt oss av en kvalitativ metod. Vi har intervjuat sju singlar och en före detta singel mellan 40-60 år för att ta reda på deras innersta tankar om singelresor. The cAMP-dependent protein kinase, PKA, mediates diverse cellular processes including proliferation and differentiation, as well as the phosphorylation of proteins involved in cell death and survival such as BAD and GSK-3beta. In this work, I demonstrate that PKA phosphorylates the stress-activated protein kinase, MEKK3 in vivo and in vitro. MEKK4 is a recently identified serine/threonine kinase. Upon initiation of this study, MEKK4 had been shown to phosphorylate MKK6, an upstream kinase of the stress activated p38 MAP kinase, although no agonist or directly upstream activating kinase had been reported. To identify proteins that interact with MEKK4, a recombinant form of the protein was used as bait to bind interacting proteins from mammalian cell extracts. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease resulting in the selective destruction of the insulin producing β-cells in the pancreas. Pro-inflammatory cytokines and the free radical nitric oxide (NO) have been implicated in mediating the destruction of β-cells, possibly through activation of the mitogen activated protein kinases (MAPKs) JNK, ERK and p38. In addition to MAPKs, cytokine signaling also results in activation of the transcription factor nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-κB).
