Abstract:
A war of history and memory over the Great Patriotic War (WWII) between the Soviet Union and Germany has been raging in Vladimir Putin’s Russia for almost two decades. Putin’s Kremlin deploys all of the mythmaking machinery at its disposal to correct narratives that demonize the Soviet Union and reflect badly on post-Soviet Russia. Victory Day, celebrated annually on 9 May with parades, concerts, films, theatre, art, and music, plays a crucial role in disseminating the Kremlin’s counter narratives.

Abstract:
Presented are results of a sociological study (qualitative comparative analysis of in-depth interviews) in the historical memory of Kyrgyzstan young citizens as one of participating states of Eurasian integration, namely, their ideas about World War II and formation of historical memory, as well as understanding and interpretation of integration processes between countries of NIS. For the Soviet Union citizens, the victory in World War II was not just a socio-historical milestone. Social time is a key element in formation of historical memory. It is interesting how the social time of historical events can be interpreted quite subjectively in a given community. Since the Victory was the most important event in the history of the Soviet Union, it can be assumed that historical memory of the war serves as a social link of integration processes. Therefore, the study of descendants historical memory of the victors in the Great Patriotic War becomes an interesting and scientifically urgent task. The specificity of this study was the methodology based on the use of a qualitative comparative analysis of results of in-depth interviews of Kyrgyzstan young citizens. More than 400 persons were interviewed using a non-random sample, and no less than 50 informants from each group, selected by the snowball method. The empirical object of research is the youth of the Kyrgyzstan Republic, belonged to the generation of “millennials” and “postmillennials” (18–38 years old). The historical memory of the Great Victory is largely connected with today’s ideas about the Eurasian integration of the NIS. Although it would seem that the content of the social memory of young people does not have a direct impact on the process of Eurasian integration, but as a potential force, it can spontaneously manifest itself in public life, or under certain conditions and the presence of an organized force, it can be included in the socio-political discourse.

Abstract:
The authors carried out an analysis of semantic constructions about the role of Sevastopol in the Great Patriotic War. The basic question of the study is to assess the risks and opportunities of countering the technologies of information and cognitive wars, the scenarios of which involve the formation of lines of "civilizational faults" that destabilize social processes with the reformatting of history. The relevance of this research is connected with the definition of mechanisms for creating new historical and media meanings in the conditions of hybrid confrontation and modeling different variants of the development of historical events with changes in the historical and political maps of the world. First of all, this process concerns assessments of the Great Patriotic War and Victory as a historical and geopolitical achievement of Russia. The scientific novelty of the study consists in considering the collective memory of the Great Patriotic War as a network in the understanding of actor-network theory. It was revealed that the historical collective memory is filled with new symbols and signs, turning into an unstructured stream. Social actions that determine historical attitudes are being reinterpreted, a new symbolism becoming a new sociality with the broadcast of "victory" and the rejection of social and geopolitical achievements in the Great Patriotic War of the Russian people and the Soviet state. The current state of historical collective memory is filled with traces formed by both a fundamental event – the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, and events of a political and social nature. Consideration of the collective memory of the Great Patriotic War as a network in the understanding of the actor-network theory allowed us to identify signs of information campaigns aimed at discrediting the role of the Soviet Union and transforming the Victory Day through the formation of an "import" information agenda.

Abstract:
This article identifies the content and structural features of social and media communication of Runet users in relation to the information presence of Sevastopol in the construction of the historical memory of the Great Patriotic War. An interdisciplinary approach is used to fully implement the goal and objectives of the research being conducted. Media and information spaces cybermetry intrinsic to modern sociology make it possible to identify new trends in the formation of unconventional historical attitudes about the Great Victory, including the presence of Sevastopol in the historical memory of the Great Patriotic War. The use of the social media monitoring system "Medialogia" enabled an analysis of information flows about the Great Patriotic War and the role of Sevastopol in the Great Victory. The results of the study can contribute to the development of a guide aimed at intensifying the activities in the field of formation of the historical memory of the Great Victory. The authors believe that it will positively affect the consistent upholding of Russia's historical victories and their preservation in the modern digital space by shaping the agenda and managing information flows in the context of the ideological confrontation of the main world actors.

Abstract:
In their attempts to falsify the history of the Second World War, western political scientists and journalists resort to various myths and tricks aimed at distorting the role and place of the Soviet Union in achieving Victory over Nazi Germany. In particular, they are trying to replace the concept of "escape diplomacy", which is widespread in our country, with the so-called "memory diplomacy". Based on documentary data, this article examines the events related to the two capitulation ceremonies of Nazi Germany in Reims and Karlshorst, which served as the basis for the "diplomacy of Victory", as well as the inconsistency of the concept of "diplomacy of memory".

Abstract:
The publication deals with the International Russian-Uzbek research and practice conference “75 Years of the Great Victory – Common Victory – Common Memory”. Based on the conference materials, the author of the publication analyses approaches of the scientific community representatives of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Uzbekistan to assessing the common contribution of our countries to the victory over fascism. The speakers focused on discussing such topical issues as the historiography of the Great Patriotic War in Uzbekistan, coverage of the Great Patriotic War in foreign historiography, new educational approaches to teaching the history of the Great Patriotic War in higher and secondary educational institutions, using the memories of evacuees as a historical source, etc. The author emphasises that all the speakers expressed concern about the strengthening of modern trends to “falsify the history” of the Great Patriotic War and World War II and indicated, in that regard, the need for careful attitude towards the history of the events of 1939–1945 and the importance of preserving the historical memory of them. An idea was also expressed at the conference that a great responsibility falls on the shoulders of scientific community representatives now, since the community’s main task is to preserve the memory of the courage and heroism of all the soldiers who fought against fascism, without distinction of nationality. During the discussion, interesting proposals were made for cooperation in the field of historical knowledge, educational activities, as well as in the promotion of joint educational projects by Russia and Uzbekistan.

Abstract:
The contours of the image of the Great Patriotic War and the Victory formed in the post-war 20th century laid the content of the “matrix” of Russian historical memory. The strengthening trend of national and state-oriented policy of historical memory actualizes addressing the genesis of this image and commemorative (traditions, rituals, symbols). In the USSR, the tool for creating and promoting technologies of commemorative practices, preserving and transmitting the memory of the Great Patriotic War to society was newspapers highly demanded by the Soviet population. The article analyzes the materials published in 1946–1965 in central, regional, and local newspapers (“Pravda”, “Ural’skii rabochii”, “Sovetskaya Sibir′” and “Magnitogorskii Metall”). The use of content and discourse analysis methods made it possible to identify the dynamics in the presentation of the Victory image on the pages of the press: from a chaotic festive extravaganza to a “cultural” recreation of citizens and ritualized practices (laying wreaths, holding concerts, exhibitions). The paper also captures the changes caused by a change in the political situation, a decrease in the intensity of the company, aimed at the labor mobilization of the Soviet society. The 1946–1965 newspapers of various levels reveal the specifics in the coverage of the Victory theme: the central newspapers published more theoretical materials on this topic, while the regional and factory newspapers more often covered practices dedicated to this date (labor, holiday).

Abstract:
On the threshold of celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, we propose to assess the picture of those years from the perspective of real participants of military operations from the position of the current geopolitical situation. For this purpose, we present a fragment of the repeatedly republished book by V.N.Ivanov and V.K.Sergeev “Always a Great Victory”. It discusses the results of an interregional sociological study conducted by the Institute of Socio-Political Research of the FCTAS RAS together with the Moscow Institute of Socio-Cultural Programmes in March-June 2005 among 1400 combat veterans of the Great Patriotic War. Even then, the results of the research showed significant discrepancies between the opinions of veterans and the assessments of outside experts. Many of these discrepancies, in particular regarding the role of the USSR and the merits of the Allies, have reached a climax in the last three years, in the course of attempts to ‘cancel’ the significance of the contribution of Soviet soldiers to the achievement of victory. A sociological excursion into the history of our country and an analytical approach to key events of the past are necessary both for the preservation of historical memory and the education of patriotism in modern generations, and for a logical understanding of the events of the present.

We present the key directions in the activity of the Russian Orthodox Church in preserving and restoring the historical memory of the Great Patriotic War. We consider the main stages and aspects of the church's activity in this direction. The construction of the Great Patriotic War historical memory now occupies a large place in patriotic and civic education. The issues of historical memory and its differences from the actual history in Russia began to work with recent-ly. We also consider various ways of preserving historical memory of the Russian Orthodox Church contribution to the victory in the Great Patriotic War in connection with the peculiarities of the source base. Also, in the conditions of limited actions of the Russian Orthodox Church as a full-fledged subject of law, in different periods of time certain types of historical memory preser-vation came to the fore. The main areas of activity in terms of preserving historical memory of the Russian Orthodox Church contribution to victory are identified. Among them we highlight the coverage of church activities in the official publication of the Russian Orthodox Church “Journal of the Moscow Patriarchate”, the construction of churches in memory of the war, the biography restoration of repressed priests and believers during the war, co-operative work on museums and museum exhibitions, etc. We also reveal the correspondence of the work content with historical memory to basic Russian values.

Abstract:
AbstractThis article examines the symbolic politics of three pro-state movements that emerged from the “preventive counterrevolution” launched by the Kremlin in response to Ukraine’s Orange Revolution. In 2005, youth movement Nashi played upon war memory at its rallies and branded the opposition “fascist”; in 2012, the Anti-Orange Committee countered opposition protests with mass gatherings at Moscow’s war commemoration sites; in 2015, Antimaidan brought thousands onto Russia’s streets to denounce US-backed regime change and alleged neo-Nazism in Kiev. I show how evocation of the enemy image, through reference to the war experience, played a key role in the symbolism of the preventive counterrevolution. Interviews with activists in these movements discussing their symbolic politics reveal an opposing victim/victor narrative based on an interplay of two World War II myths—the “Great Victory” and the “fascist threat.” Moving beyond approaches that view the Soviet and Russian World War II cult as a triumphalist narrative of the Great Victory over fascism, I conclude that its threat component is an understudied element.

AbstractThis article examines the celebrations surrounding Victory Day in Russia. It situates the events of 9 May 2010 within the long-term processes of remembering the Great Patriotic War in Soviet and Russian society. The article analyzes various discussions that took place in Russia around the holiday, including the controversy over whether or not to display images of Stalin, the ongoing role veterans have played in the holiday, and its increasingly commercial aspects. While many commentators lamented the apparent turn from a sacred holiday to a commercial one, the author argues that Victory Day 2010 represents an important moment in how Russian remembrance has become less state-driven.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the problem of memory in Russian prose of the second half of the XX–XXI centuries. The periodization of this literature, its leading directions are presented: historical, ontological, existential, and aesthetic, which characterizes the literature of recent decades. A detailed description of the main texts, features of their ideology, poetics for the interpretation of the theme of memory (from ‘lieutenant’s prose’ to the works by I. Boyashov, E. Vodolazkin, G. Yakhina and S. Samsonov) is given. It shows how the understanding of the mission of Russians in the Great Patriotic War, the interpretation of the image of the enemy, the very structure of memory are changing. The socio-historical memory of the war is analyzed, which includes the motif of ancestral memory. The motifs of cultural memory play a huge role. It becomes obvious that our memory of the war is latent, alive, non-military, in the works of recent years, however, there are elements of destructive memory associated with the tragic awareness of the terrible cost of Victory, doubts about the life-affirming value of our mission.

The author comes to the conclusion that the growing role and importance of the Internet and social networks in the life of modern society contribute to the fact that in the foreseeable future these resources will become the richest, if not the main, sources of information on the collective historical memory of the Great Patriotic War, as well as space for formation of new commemorative practices.

Abstract:
There is no doubt that the most important event of the 20th century was a joint victory of the united front of peoples and states over German fascism. For some that was the victory in the Second World War. For the Russians - the victory in the Great Patriotic War which cost the Soviet Union incredible efforts, enormous sacrifices and material losses. Now when we celebrate the 70thyear since that epoch-making date we turn our attention once more to the lessons of history because the memory of the war has been imprinted deeply on our gene level of Russians and Germans. This is because every family from both sides sustained heavy losses. This memory is alive in literature, in movies and plays, songs, in memorials, biographies and historical dates. The Russian and German descendants of those who fought against each other are doing an important work searching for the killed, looking after the burial places, compensating the damage to the victims of this inhuman massacre, trying to understand critically our common and controversial past. What was the 9th of May for the Germans and the Russians in the perception of Germans and Russians? Was it a victory, a defeat or liberation? This is what the author of the article reflects on, convinced that we are anyway dealing with the greatest event of the 20th century, at least because it prevented the end of civilization.

Today is 2025, the Great Patriotic War is getting further and further away from us, there are fewer and fewer participants and witnesses of those events. Decades will pass, and we will learn about the war only from history textbooks, from documentaries, from books. Of course, they don't lie, but there is something special that separates us from the past, preventing us from penetrating to the very depths. Something is missing. There is a missing person, a living person, a real person. These people are living out their days now, leaving the world behind for future generations. To get to know their fates, to support them in difficult moments, to honor and remember them during their lifetime – this is the moral and moral duty of each of us. We believe that the memory of the unparalleled feat of the Soviet people and their Great Victory in that terrible war will be carefully passed down from generation to generation. And the Soviet soldier deserved a monument for centuries from grateful humanity, so that the memory of his exploits would live forever, because he was able to look death in mortal danger, he showed the highest military valor and heroism.

Traditionally, Victory Day is celebrated by the post-Soviet population as one of the main holidays. Until now, many perceive it in the Soviet interpretation as Victory Day of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War. It is not only the memory of the sacrifice and suffering that the country endured, but also the involvement in the heritage of the victorious generation. Unfortunately, the campaign to “correct” the historical memory, initiated by the West and being carried out in a number of countries of the former USSR, touched upon this holiday as well. Today, in some CIS countries, including Ukraine, some are trying to change the meaning of the holiday to belittle its significance, destroy “Soviet mythology, and dissolve the Great Patriotic War in the Second World War. Despite this, many still consider Victory Day to be the main holiday, as it can be seen from the number and mass of events held annually on May 9. Abstract:
The article analyzes commemoration strategies of the Great Patriotic War in Karelia. Regional memory politics is considered as a “two-level game”: within the region, where different mnemonic actors interact with each other during the dominant narrative formation; and externally, where the regional narrative is correlated with federal practices and interpretations. The article analyzes the ways the unique experience of Karelia in battling with a different enemy – the Finns – is perceived in the republic’s public discourse. The empirical basis of the research is as follows: archive materials, republic media publications, and semi-structured interviews with main actors of Karelia's memory politics. The study shows that there is a fragmented memory regime of war in Karelia. The dominant strategy of commemoration is to confirm the heroic discourse highlighting Karelia's contribution to the Victory. The narrative is mainly shared by the veteran and search organizations supported by the regional authorities. The alternative strategy is focusing on the commemoration of the occupational regime imposed on Karelia. The main supporters of this narrative are former prisoners of Finnish concentration camps, the representatives of archives, museums, and the scientific community. However, limitations of symbolic and communicative resources don’t allow them to compete with the dominant strategy of commemoration.

The article examines the main aspects of the historical policy of the states of Central Eurasia in relation to the problems of the Great Patriotic war and the Great Victory. Over the years of independence, the republics of the region have demonstrated various approaches to the implementation of memory policy in relation to the Soviet period of national history. After the transition of the proxy war of the collective West against Russia into an active phase, there has been an intensification of social discussions around various topics of historical discourse in the Central Asian republics. The theme of the Great Patriotic war and the participation of the Asian republics of the former USSR in it also went through various transformations in the historical policy of the republics of the region, which, in relation to each of the states, are evaluated in the article. This text is also an attempt to consider the degree of influence of the processes that can be called “memory wars” on the formation of public views in the republics of the Central Asian region on a wide range of issues related to the Great Patriotic war and its Victory achieved through the strenuous efforts of all the peoples of the fraternal republics of the Soviet Union.

And let time more and more we move away from the victory of 1945, the value and results of the war are enormous for the future of the modern world. Memory of the Great Victory presents to all of us now living, special requirements, the main of which consists in the fact that based on the analysis draw the necessary lessons from the past, draw the right conclusions for the safety of modern Russia. Over the years, the world has changed considerably. On the stage of world politics, a host of new independent states. There are new centers of economic development, and hence the new poles of power. Meanwhile, the events of recent months show that the main results of the Victory have not lost their importance today. This is best spoken of their incessant attempts to challenge by distorting the main points of the war and its lessons. And, obviously, it is no accident the day before and during the celebration of 70th anniversary of Victory wishing her to steal the peoples of Russia have been particularly active, as they claim - stiff and awkward. Purpose of research. In the present context of informational confrontation between Russian Federation and the Western world, some social actors are trying to monetize, understate or distort the results of the World War II by using the latest information and communication technologies in order to form and nurture future generations. Given the situation, for the benefit of prosperous development of Russian society it is necessary to identify the value aspects of ensuring the Victory. The heirs of the “liberation soldiers” should thought of the Victory as the greatest value, preserve the memory of it and pass it to their children. The falsifications of the Great Victory should be challenged with its understanding as the value of pan-unity, seamlessly including Truth, Goodness and Beauty. Conclusion. As a result of research the author arrives at a conclusion that in the context of the development of modern information confrontation, it becomes necessary to counteract the influence of destructive technologies of discrediting the Great Victory of the Soviet Union over Nazi Germany, which author understands as an integrated value that helps to unite Russian society, find a common language for mutual understanding for people of different beliefs and political views, pursue traditional values and the most significant social guidelines.

The article is devoted to an urgent topic – the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945. It analyzes the first days of the war and the difficulties faced by adults and children. The hardships suf-fered by children in the period 1941–1945 and the memories of eyewitnesses of those events are especially revealed. Real-life examples show how the children of the capital contributed to the victory over fascism, and some names of young heroes who gave their lives in the battles for their Homeland are given. It is emphasized that the children of the war belong to the group of survivors of the invasion of the German occupiers, which is least remembered in the present time. Conclusion dwells upon the fact that in modern conditions for the for-mation and education of patriotism, spiritual and moral qualities in young people, preservation of historical memory it is not only extremely important to remember the heroism of the Soviet people, war veterans and home front workers, but it is also necessary not to forget about the Soviet children of the war.

Abstract:
The attitude to history in any country depends on its current challenges and those that people will have to face in the future. In this regard, the vision of the past and the collective memory change with each new generation. The Great Patriotic War (1941–1945) is the main historical event in contemporary Russia. Having rejected the old vision of the twentieth-century events which have been previously considered the most significant, such as the Bolshevik Revolution, contemporary Russia has retained a vision of its place and role in World War II. This is evidenced by the celebrations of the 75th anniversary of its victory in the war. The Museum of the Great Patriotic War (Victory Museum) in Moscow plays a significant role in celebrating this anniversary and creating the overall image of the war. The Victory Museum deals with preserving the memory of the war and educating young generations about this historical period. The museum has done a lot to reconstruct and update most of the exhibitions and change the nature of its activities. This article analyses this reconstruction process, new exhibitions in the museum and its new forms of work with visitors, particularly the young generation of Russian people. The author analyses how the exhibits have been transformed from traditional to multimedia ones and pays special attention to their interactive and communicative aspects, which have changed the role of visitors and the museum.

Abstract:
The research examined linguocultural features of media coverage of the Great Victory anniversary the Sputnik agency (Russia Today). The purpose of the study was to determine, from the standpoint of linguistic cultural studies, the key images that formed the media. The object of the research is the materials of three editions of the Sputnik agency (Sputnik Polska, Sputnik International, Sputnik Türkiye), the geography of distribution and the composition of the audience of which reflect differentiated linguocultures. A set of methods is used: content analysis; contextual analysis, comparative analysis, case study. The empirical base was made up of publications dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, posted on the websites of the editorial offices of Sputnik Polska, Sputnik International, Sputnik Türkiye. Sample type: solid. Chronological scope of the study: April 15 — May 15, 2020. Based on the results of the study, we concluded that the nature of representation is directly related to linguocultural characteristics and is due to historical, political and sociocultural preconditions. At the same time, all editions are united by the commonality of the constructed images: Victory Day (attitudes towards victory over fascism in the international arena); nations (both winners and losers); preservation of historical memory. The presence or absence of certain stable linguistic units depends on the cultural and ethnic specifics of the audience. The greatest efficiency from the standpoint of the implementation of international broadcasting activities (transmission of cultural codes and meanings) is achieved in a situation of a common / close mentality, interaction of ethnic groups and territorial proximity.

Abstract:
This article is devoted to the discourse analysis of the comments of regional news sites and public publications about the commemorations of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. Based on the application of the methodology of Siegfried Yeager's critical discourse analysis, the peculiarities of the perception of official memorials dedicated to the memory of the Great Patriotic War in the Internet space of the Tula and Tomsk regions were analyzed. The sources for the analysis were comments from users of social networks, Internet blogs and news sites of the two regions in the period 2015-2021, dedicated to Victory Day (May 9), the Immortal Regiment campaign, topical regional commemorations of the Great Patriotic War, as well as mentions of individual pages of family memory and events of war heroes. Despite the fact that sociological surveys of recent years show the preservation of the memory of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 as the most important historical event and ideological reference point in the mass historical consciousness, the study of the perception of war memorials on the Internet shows a further increase in the devaluation of historical meanings of the Russian memorial culture and the departure to particular versions of historical memory (family, local social group). The tendency of fragmentation and transformation of perception of the past in the regional Internet space was revealed. The analysis of a sample set of comments indicates the persistence of the trend of sacralization of war heroes, veterans and family memory of them in the mass consciousness, as well as attempts to contrast family commemorations of Victory Day and official events and actions of the authorities. In both areas, the fact of using the discussion of the May 9 commemorations and the "Immortal Regiment" campaign as a symbolic framework for criticizing the domestic and foreign policies of the current government was recorded. At the same time, most of the critical comments are situational in nature and are related to topical regional socio-economic problems.

The article covers the issue of displaying archival documents on the Internet as part of the anniversary events timed to the anniversary of the Victory over Nazism which took place in 1945. The authors focus on exhibitions by the Ukrainian central state archives and use them to analyse the role of the modern archival institution as an object and subject of politics of memory and as a collec - tive memory institution that somewhat historicizes the past events (in this case, these events are the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War, beginning and final victory in them) through preserved and exhibited historical documents. The authors provide insight into the structure and concept of each exhibition and try to understand the exposition chronography, symbols and nomenclature which were used to prepare a particular exhibition. The authors of the publication pay special attention to the floral symbols of the expositions (the scarlet poppy or Remembrance poppy in particular). The analysis of its use cases within the exposition devoted to the Great Patriotic War and World War 2 and the dates associated with them has special place in the paper. The theoretical basis for the research is Maurice Halbwachs’ concept of “historical memory” and Pierre Nora’s “lieux de m?moire.” Russian and foreign scientists are developing these concepts within the frameworks of interdisciplinary “memory studies.” The important role in these studies belongs to historians. Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–45 became a backbone idea for our country. It gives meaning to the historical process in the 20th century, manifesting in numerous and various empirical data, events, and artifacts. The Ilyushin Il-2 became a significant “site of memory” in Samara for two reasons. Firstly, many documents on its creation are stored in the Russian State Archive in Samara and are available to researchers and constantly exhibited (on-line as well as real). Secondly, the Ilyushin Il-2 visually symbolizes Samara’s contribution to the Great Victory, as the aircraft, manufactured and restored here, became a center of the composition of the monument to military and labour glory of the citizens in the days of the Great Patriotic War. This monument was opened in 1973. Its last reconstruction was carried out in 2015–17 in order to preserve this unique historical relic. The aircraft-monument and written evidence on the history of its creation, destinies of inventors, production organizers, engineers, workers are situated not far from one other. The Constructor Ilyushin Square and the Memory Square, where the monument and the archive building stand, are connected by Moscow Avenue. It is not just a transport artery, but a pivot of historical memory uniting its documentary, material, and artistic incarnations into general cultural space, in which the Il-2 plays its important role as a "site of memory."

Abstract:
The article considers some elements that reflect the state of historical memory about the Great Patriotic war of 1941–1945 among the students of Chuvashia. To identify them, the authors used the materials of an empirical research conducted among students of higher educational institutions of the Chuvash Republic in March 2020 by the Chuvash State Institute of Humanities with the participation of individual authors of the article. In the course of this study, a total of 324 students from five Cheboksary higher educational institutions were interviewed. The data obtained have not yet been used in scientific publications. From this point of view, they represent an original source of information for analyzing the problems of preserving the historical memory about the Great Patriotic War among out-of-school youth and students. The paper consistently examines the level of students’ interest in the military events of 1941–1945, in the sources of information about the main facts and heroes and identifies opinions about the significance of a set of factors that played a significant role in achieving the victory over fascism. As a result of summarizing the data obtained in the course of an empirical research, different opinions of respondents about the significance of the USSR victory in the Great Patriotic war are presented. The obtained materials show that the majority of students show a considerable interest in the events and facts of the war, correctly characterize the sources, results and historical consequences of the victory over the Hitlerite Germany. The results of the study provide an opportunity for lecturers of higher educational institutions to take into account the data obtained in the process of organizing the effective use of various sources on the history of the war, to apply the materials obtained not only in educational work but in awareness-raising work as well.
