Abstract:
Probability learning is the ability to establish a relationship between stimulus and outcomes based on occurrence probabilities using repetitive feedbacks. Participants learn the task according to the cue-outcome relationship, and try to gain in depth understanding of this relationship throughout the experiment. While learning is at the highest level, people rely on their working memory. In this study 20 participants were presented a probability learning task, and their prefrontal cortex activity was measured with functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy. Several lines of evidence from rapid serial visual presentation, attentional blink, and dual-task interference phenomena propose that human beings have a significant limitation on the short-term consolidation process. Abstract:
There is a dilemma between security and usability, which are two fundamentally conflicting issues. From the usability perspective, authentication protocols should be easy to use and passwords generated from these protocols should be easy to remember. From the security perspective, passwords should be hard to guess and should not be written down or stored in a plain text. Instead of using text based passwords, graphical passwords have been proposed to increase both memorability and security. Biederman (1972) and Biederman, Glass, &amp<br>Stacy (1973) reported that the objects in a coherent imag

The aim of the present study was to examine retention of spatial reference memory after 6 (Experiment I) and 15days (Experiment II) of binge-like drinking and during alcohol withdrawal in young adult Wistar rats. Prior to alcohol treatment, rats received Morris Water Maze (MWM) training. Afterwards, rats were intragastrically administered ethanol at the dose increasing from 4.5g-to-12g/kg. Intubation control groups (n=7 and n=10, respectively) received infusions of a sucrose solution without ethanol. Subsequently, all subjects were given a single probe trial in the MWM to test memory retention

The aim of this thesis is to investigate the relationship between working memory, English as a second language and academic achievement of secondary school students between the ages of 12-14. The study also examines the effects of age and gender factors on working memory capacity and its relation with academic attainments. Data were collected from 12-14 year-old children (N=54) in two state secondary schools in Kirsehir, Turkey. Verbal working memory was assessed by a reading span (RS) test and a backward digit span (BDS) test. Academic achievement was determined by performance on basic second

This thesis investigates the Flavian Amphitheatre, better known as the Colosseum, in its relation to setting, symbolic meaning and its afterlife. Crucial to the discussion is the ancient art of memory, through which the Colosseum&rsquo<br>s ambivalent role as a means of Imperial power is elucidated. Equally important, the buildings&rsquo<br>iconographic connotations are studied in terms of the architectural orders employed on the fa&ccedil<br>ade. The Colosseum&rsquo<br>s extended use and its later emblematic significance comprise the concluding discussion of the thesis.

Flash Memory offers a portable and non-volatile de- sign, which can be carried to everywhere without data loss. It is durable against temperature and humidity. With all these advantages, Flash Memory gets popular day by day. However, Flash Memory has also some disadvantages, such as erase-before restriction and erase limi- tation of each individual block. Erase-before restriction pushes every single writable unit to be erased before an update operation. Another lim

In order to examine this issue, as well as the differences between 2D and 3D environments, two experiments were designed in which the general task demands could be manipulated. The r

Determination of thallium is important due to its toxic effects on the environment and human health. Extremely low abundance of thallium in earth crust requires very sensitive and accurate methods for determination of this element. Although volatile compound generation is a sensitive, fast and economical method, thallium determination by this method has not been sufficiently investigated in literature, because of the fact that the formation of volatile forms of this element is a difficult task. A continuous flow volatile compound generation system was developed and parameters that affect the
