Abstract:
This article analyses the creation of Unión de Centro Democrático (UCD) on the island of Menorca from Franco’s death until the configuration of the political parties shortly before the 1977 elections. Through documents from local and private archives, the press of the time and the testimonies of different political protagonists of the Menorcan process, the construction of a political formation that became the majority party in this constituency and in the whole of Spain is studied. In the case of Menorca, it is concluded that the centrists’ action was particularly important due to their leader

Ochthebius (Ochthebius) lobiccoastal habitatsollis Rey, 1885 is recorded for the first time from the Iberian Peninsula (Girona) and the island of Corsica; new records are also given for the islands of Menorca and Sardinia. The species is known only from coastal habitats through the Gulf of Lion and the Ligurian and Balearic seas, typically living in rockpools of different salinity or small trickles or freshwater runoffs. Genetic data of the cytochrome oxidase 1 gene from Iberian, Menorcan and Sardinian specimens shows less than 1% divergence, suggesting lack of isolation between populations.

The first updated checklist of Balearic leaf beetles (Chrysomelidae) since 1960 is presented here, evincing the presence of 118 species. This estimation is clearly lower than the 141 species reported in the only list available to date (Jolivet, 1953), and the dissimilarity is even more pronounced if we take into account that 22 new species have been added during this period. The possible explanations for these differences are discussed. The main island in the archipelago holds most of the species (Mallorca, 113 spp.), followed by Menorca (71 spp.), Eivissa (39 spp.) and Formentera (19 spp.). T

A taxonomic study of the genus Trachelomonas (Euglenophyta) was undertaken in temporary ponds on Menorca Island, Spain, called “basses”. Among the 13 studied ponds, this genus was found in only one, called Verda B. A light and scanning electron microscope study of the samples taken from this body enabled the identification of 28 taxa, 26 of which were documented by SEM micrographs, including different views and details of the lorica. All the taxa described are reported as new for this region, while 18 are new for Spain. T. granulosa var. crenulatocollis, T. nigra, T. pseudofelix, and T. racibo

Recent research including 781 radiocarbon dates and the excavation of Ses Arenes de Baix, has allowed a new review of the sequence of megalithic burial practice on Menorca. Rock-cut tombs, dolmens, caves with entrance-works and the famous boat-shaped houses and tombs (navetes) are placed in overlapping chronological order. The authors suggest that, while aware of contemporary developments on the continent, the Bronze Age islanders absorbed immigrants and made their own local choices of memorial architecture.

Within the distally steepened ramp, Pomar et al.
