Abstract:
Military sexual trauma (MST) has been associated with poor emotional and psychological well-being, less overall life satisfaction, and poorer health in general as well as higher rates of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The Department of Veterans Affairs provides treatment for veterans who experienced MST and recommends cognitive processing therapy (CPT) as a preferred treatment modality. Quantitative studies have shown that CPT can decrease symptoms of PTSD; however, a neglected area of study concerns the experiences of veterans who receive CPT for MST-related PTSD.
The suicide rate among post-9/11 veterans has become a national crisis. At a staggering number of 22 suicides per day, our wounded warriors are in dire need of psychological assistance. Currently, the treatment interventions used in the rehabilitation of veterans suffering from mental health disorders are limited. Furthermore, these therapy options available to veterans are not realizing adequate improvements in the management of their symptoms.

This business proposal advocates the utilization of psychiatric service dogs as an alternative intervention to help veterans manage the

By every measure, the casualty statistics are staggering. Perhaps even more alarming is the reality that we have yet to see the full extent of the psychological and neurological injury-related complications that will emerge in the months and years to come.

Aims. Provision and need for mental health services among military personnel are a major concern across nations. Two recent comparisons suggest higher rates of mental disorders in US and UK military personnel compared with civilians. However, these findings may not apply to other nations. Previous studies have focused on the overall effects of military service rather than the separate effects of military service and deployment. This study compared German military personnel with and without a history of deployment to sociodemographically matched civilians regarding prevalence and severity of 12

Approximately 60% of UK military personnel who experience mental health problems, do not seek help. Typical demographics of military personnel provide one explanation for this, as help-seeking is lowest in young males in the general population. There are, however, further issues concerning the military, such as heightened stigma concerns and the effect of military culture on help-seeking behaviours. The overarching aim of this thesis is to determine the main social influences, barriers and facilitators of help-seeking for mental health problems in UK military personnel (Service Personnel, Rese
